Disclaimer... I cannot comment on the food because we couldn't even get seated! Terrible service and poor management, so we chose to leave. We originally asked if we could seat 20 and then brought in 10 people and were told we would need to wait outside for 10-15 minutes which was fine... As we waited, a family of 3 walked in and they immediately sat them in one of the tables they were cleaning for us. We walked in as a group and they asked us to wait outside again... meanwhile there were 4 people in the back on their phones with a table that clearly needed to be cleaned so we could sit and they continued to sit around. We then politely asked them if we could squeeze in the other 3 booths available and he told us, "No you can wait outside." Poor service and even poorer management. Congratulations! This is the first restaurant my husband and I have dined our at in over a year, and left us pleasantly surprised. We are from Seattle and have only been living in the Valley for about a year. Our expectations for authentic Mexican food and drinks were pretty low, but they did not disappoint! My husband had steak tacos and I tried the combo with Chili Rellanos and a chimichanga. The only down sides were the lack of heat in provided salsa (likely tampered for taste of locals), and the crispiness of the rice. Our service was not outstanding, but sufficient. However the drinks were absolutely phenomenal. We had the Peach on the beach and pina colada margaritas, along with Coronas. SO good! This place has so much flavor. I had the steak burrito and it was excellent. The orcheta was not too sweet. We also ordered the vegi burrito and chimmi both were top notch. Can't believe in the middle of no where there's this Gem. Best Mexican place in Idaho. Drive from Spokane or montana it's totally worth the trip. The waitress was great, but we ordered drinks and appetizers while deciding on our main entrees..... my husband received his beer right away but they brought me ice water while my huckleberry whipped mule was made. So our appetizer and my drink came out 2 minutes before our main entrees. My husband had the steak picado with flour tortillas, it came out on a platter swimming in grease with way too much chili powder on everything. I ordered the shrimp and steak fajitas, it was pretty good. My issue was my mule, I ordered 2, it was specifically advertised being served in a copper mug, the first one came out in a short cylinder type glass with 2 empty cocktail spears and it was a pinkish color the second one came out in a smaller glass with 2 straws and a lemon wedge and it was dark purple....the difference between the two was the 1st one didn't have ginger beer and think on the huckleberry the 2nd one had a lot of ginger beer. The worse part was after we gave our credit card it came back with two receipts to fill out a tip, total and signature.... no problem but no itemized ticket and they automatically added a 20% gratuity which we would never know if it wasn't for the fact it said our total was $91.28.... when we asked for the itemized ticket is when the waitress told us their register automatically adds in the gratuity...... needless to say we did not add any tip since they already added $14.49 gratuity to our real balance. We won't be going back!! We're not the only ones who live in the Silver Valley that are on a budget, so double check your tickets, make sure you are being charged correctly. read more

there was a terrible accident on the East bound I-90 today. we had to turn around near Kellogg, ID. The traffic was delayed for 5-6 hours. we came to the Mexican Food restaurant Casa De Oro, we had a delicious hot meal, with fast and friendly service. I'm from AZ, this Mexican food was as good or even better than AZ Mexican Restaurants. Marco the owner waited on us personally, and we were so pleased! The four of us were staying in a nearby VRBO and were looking for a little TexMex or something not too exotic for Mexican food. We were thrilled to find this place that is more "Mom & Pop" than "The Plaza" - and comfortable in the same way. Great service, great food, reasonable prices, and a 'just-right' ambience. Been to the little places that offer margarita syrup and rotgut 'tee-killya' as their house margarita, and hoping this would not be one of those. It wasn't. We got these wonderful huckleberry blended margaritas and really enjoyed them. Not too sweet - just right blend. Chips were fresh and plentiful, the salsa not hot but flavorful and you pour into individual bowls where double-dipping a chip is certainly fine. We had a great time and a great meal. If you are looking for great taste, spicy flavors, and attentive staff, look no more. This is similar to the Sonoran style I grew up with in Southern Az. Salsa has a nice amount of lingering heat, and Thank God, it's not sweet. Hubby and I both had combination plates, and every single item was good. This phenomenon has not happened since we moved to the NW 10 years ago! It's easy to find good seafood up here, but not good, much less, great Mexican food. It's right here everyone! read more

Casa De Oro has several family run locations, and I've been to all of them over the decades. This one is the best. Some Hispanic joints just have a somethin'-somethin' with their flavors, and all of us agreed that this place had it. Small town, maybe? Fajitas, great; relleno/tamale/beans/rice, great; salsa & guac, great; but the star of the show was their beef fajita nachos that my son ordered. What a savory, guilty pleasure it was. Our host/server/manager was a grande happy amigo, and pleasantly put up with my earnest, inebriated attempts to do all the ordering in español. A top restaurant in the Kellogg area for a reason. What an authentic little gem in the middle of Kellogg Idaho. I found this place by using Yelp of course and the reviews were spot on. Quick to seat us, chips and salsa almost immediately. They were busy but all the staff hustled around to quickly clear and clean a table the moment customers left. Their tamales were simply the best I have had. Full of meat and a delicious sauce over them that I had never experienced. Salsa was excellent, and my chille rellano was fantastic too. Both myself and my husband ordered combo plates with a chimichanga and it too was fantastic. Not a one complaint or disappointment. It's a must try if you want great Mexican food. Such a great family! You rarely go in without hearing someone sing along. Their prices are reasonable. They always serve you with a smile. This is the hidden gem of Mexican food! Wow! Small little teeny place but superior customer service! My waiter was AMAZING! I am a pescatarian (only eat seafood/veggies) and I ordered one item and subbed it for shrimp. He suggested a completely different menu item for shrimp. Said it is the best item on the menu for people who like shrimp and mushrooms. I was slightly hesitant because I can't handle things super spicy but OMG! It was amazing!! And I would have totally missed trying it if it wasn't for his suggestion! Ten stars! And a fist pump!! Holy hell they can cook shrimp! Yum!! I ate everything on my plate and I never do that when I am at Mexican places because the portions are too big. I also got a lime margarita that was super tasty and my boyfriend enjoyed his meal as well. Oceano burrito to die for, considering we're in landlocked Pacific Northwest, they swear the crab is imitation, but the blend sure tasted like real crab to me! I do not understand how this place has such good reviews, it was highly disappointing. I had the enchiladas suizas. The enchilada sauce was from a can, the beans were from a can, the tortilla chips were stale. The strawberry margarita was so bad I couldn't have more than 2 sips. An "8" on a scale of 1-10 This is a undervalued gem in the Silver Valley. I did a stretch there for a couple of weeks and found this to be one of the three best restaurants in the area. Nice people. The woman who took my Togo order was rude over the phone. I asked about delivery when I was at the restaurant waiting to pay because it says right on their Togo menu that they deliver, she was rude once again. They don't btw.
