I just spend $60 on 2 caldos and kid bean bean and cheese burrito. It's hard to find good albondigas, I saw a good review about the soups so I decided to try this place. My husband went to pick up the order and the lady serving him kept insisting we would love the food! She was wrong.... The Albondigas meat was really hard and the soup taste like nothing but chipotle!!! The shrimp and fish soup look the same, and I didn't see any fish either like they use the same broth for all the soups... disappointing how they make a soup taste like nothing but water and chipotle eew Very disappointed with the food, waste of money. Such a great find! All the dishes tasted authentic. We had the menudo and the eggs and chorizo. The menudo had the right amount of spice! The eggs and chorizo were also very good and came with very good refuted beans. The employees were also very kind and answered questions I had about the spice. It is casual small family business. It DOES say on the menus that prices might be higher xx amount. Suggestion for management is perhaps have a board or something upfront available (maybe the do). The location comes up pretty quick but look out for the sign with the arrow that says Casa de Lucy. Lots of parking and at the time we visited Sunday morning, it was pretty empty and is a safe area. It is a small town vibe when you walk in and Lucy seats you. She is very hospitable and loves to chat :). Wasn't too busy inside but the food came rather quick. For what we ordered, eggs and chorizo (keto) everything was great. There are lovely pieces of art inside and even a mural with such a homey feeling. The chips that accompanies the food was also very good! Their horchata was bomb. The sweetness level and flavor of cinnamon was just right. The problem I have here was that I was overcharged. Two burritos and horchata came out to over $30? The owner, Lucy, just hand wrote the order and prices. She even crossed out the total and added more $$$ to it. After I looked at the menu, I realized my order should've just been $27 rather than $30. Not that $3 was going to break me but the whole principle behind it left a bad taste in my mouth. It is really to easy to pass this place up, the shopping center is rundown and not the prettiest. Also known to have a lot of homeless in the center. I have been wanting to try this place for myself after reading some of the reviews. We were greeted immediately upon entry. The restaurant was surprisingly clean. Our server was great, friendly and always made sure we had our drinks full. We were given chips (thin and warm) and salsa. The salsa was a bit spicer(hot) than I would like but still good. We ordered a bean and cheese, shrimp soup, and two of the same combination plates (beef enchilada and tamal). The tamal was just okay but the enchiladas were great. The beef had onions and peppers in it which I look for when getting beef enchiladas. There was nothing left on anyone's plates once we finished. Paired with the buttery taste of the fresh flour tortillas, the fluffy Mexican rice, and perfectly cooked veggies it is absolutely amazing. A nice clean bowl of albondigas that is not overly greasy. Another go to on a rainy Southern California day. While I normally order to go judging by the pictures on the walls and the interaction in the kitchen it appears to be family owned and operated. I was gonna go with 5 stars, but I read the reviews and checked the ticket before we paid (I rarely do this- and clearly they were betting on it) and my 2 item combo was the same price as my guys 3 item combo. Kind of made me mad...: So I guess just know when you start that the menu price is just a suggestion and go from there. I got the chile rellano and crispy chicken taco. No complaints here. The Chile had a great flavor and they didn't over do the cheese. The sauce was tasty and it all went well. The chicken was good and the shell was perfectly done. My guy got three hard shell shredded beef tacos. No onions and peppers mixed in the beef- just cow (from prior low star review... probably that guy didn't understand what he ordered.) I blinked and his food was gone, so I'm gonna take that as a win. The SALSA IS AMAZING!!! And slightly spicy, if you're sensitive about that, ask for mild. The chips were good- warm and crispy. Tastes like everything was made here and it was good. The menu price/check change kind of PISSES me off, for that reason alone I doubt I'll come back. Have been here many times over the years. The food and service has really gone downhill. Went today for lunch. The enchiladas were so watery it seemed as if they poured water on them. Also, one of the items that was always great was their beans....much better than what most mexican restaurants serve. Today, it was as if they just opened a can and poured the beans out. Watery and tasteless. All of it was so bad that I did not eat, this food made me lose my appetite. Will not be going back, as I have noticed the food and service getting worse over the last years. Even more, when I pointed the problem out and sent it back, they still charged me for a beverage, and did not even offer to make something else. Very disappointing for a family business.
