I feel my rating from last time was unjust as they really stepped up and put back the free chips and salsa. I love eating here as it's always so good. Authentic Mexican food that comes out hot and delicious. Decor is authentic and feels like it's Mexico. Since Covid they have outside seating that allows you to not have to wait for seats anymore. Finally decided to stop by and try out for dinner last night with my wife. Walked in and was told to sit anywhere, perfect. Sat in the nice patio and a baldheaded server guy just walks up to the table and starts setting the utensils and doesn't say a word. Dude must of been on his period or mute. I greeted him and guy just walked away. Too rude and unprofessional. My wife and I just walked out. Never coming back for that rudeness. First and last visit! read more

Always great food. My fav are their humongous chicken tacos. With Avocado and extra salsa. I normally order 2. Very filling and clean. Tortillas are never soggy. I normally get them to go.. they always add chips and salsa without charge. Can't get that anymore anywhere. Salads are great. Oak View has the best restaurants. Waitress was a middle age woman, very disrespectful to allergy needs. Have a huge attitude when asked about specific ingredients used. Made up ingredients and when asked to make sure would come back with complete opposite of what she said initially. Have a very big attitude about having to go check on ingredients. This is unacceptable behavior and could lead to someone possibly having a serious allergic reaction. read more

Prepare for a wholly Ojai-coded review here.... We were in town from for a couples breathwork session. It was a really beautiful and moving few hours. Upon leaving, we both agreed that we needed something cozy, hearty and delicious. After some research, we found this absolute gem of a restaurant! We cozied up in corner both and were greeted with some delicious chips and salsa. We were quick to add guacamole, which was equally fabulous. Soup, salad, tacos, fajitas, and two cokes: one regualr and one diet, with lemon! The food was really great but mostly I'm writing to convey a lovely experience. CASA DE LAGO is known as the best Mexican restaurant in Ojai. Ask around. Not going to lie, I ordered take out 3 times this week it's that good.. I have been picking up food, dining in, & bragging about this restaurant for years. Great service, & even better food. If you like authentic, then this is it. I suggest if you do get a burrito, to order it "wet". Hits the spot every time!! They also give chips & salsa with every order out! Great service, great food. I had the combo taco, enchilada and chili relleno. Excellent rice and beans. The chilli relleno had a slight crunch and not soggy which is the way I like them. I think the oil they fried it in may have been on the older side but that was the difference from good to excellent. Excellent Margaritas and the food was served quickly. Casa de Lago is small and quaint. Limited space and parking but the turn over is quick. Will definently be returning while where staying in the Ojai area. read more

I recommend Casa De Lago Mexican food restaurant. The service was welcoming, attentive, informative and kind. The food was excellent. I had a shredded beef taco and tamale. My husband had the carnitas plate. We shared a cup of albondigas soup which was delicious. And We loved the salsa and chips. Definitely a all around great meal and experience. I was very sad to learn that everything is cooked with lard, since that is what was used in my 7th birthday cake and it is very triggering for my ptsd sustained from child hood, my father tried but my mother was not a good woman, :( anyways, unlike my childhood, casa del ago is very enjoyable, upbeat, and cheary! I really enjoyed my side of beans and rice even though I burned my little thumb on the plate because I forgot the lady said it was hot. The bust boy was on top of it, not very busy for a Saturday afternoon but he would frequently refill my water, 7 times I believe. Next time I will likely get a toastadda because of the vegetables and maybe the meat. Personally vegetarianism seems awesome. We have eaten here twice, and will probably never go back. We tried it once in 2020-the food was bland and the service wasn't stellar. Nothing was remarkable, but that was during a time where we were forced to eat outside because of Covid and staffing was probably difficult. We figured we would try it again a couple of weeks ago because it always seems to be packed, and we want to support local businesses. We sat at a booth that had lumpy seats, (at least where I sat). Then when our food came, my wife shared her beans with my 9 year old daughter. She took a bite of the beans and bit into something hard. Initially we thought it could be a hard bean or one that wasn't cooked. On closer inspection, we figured out it was definitely a rock! My wife told the waitress about the rock, and instead of being surprised, the waitress said "AGAIN?! That's the third time in the last week or so!" She mentioned that they had changed bean suppliers, and that other customers had found rocks in their beans, and yet the chefs either didn't clean the beans, pay close enough attention when they were cleaning, or toss the beans out! We got a WHOPPJNG $5 off our $50 tab, (which we would've gotten anyway with our Axxess card discount). Their cost would have been a whole lot more if my daughter had actually broken a tooth because of their carelessness. The rest of the food was bland and meh. NOT worth the risk of eating here again. read more
