I'm not usually a chocolate person, but I love the chocolate here. The quality is so good that it only takes a few bites to be satisfied. They let you try some of the chocolate which is nice if you are going to buy a big bar. I also recommend the hot chocolate (it's Mexican hot chocolate and one of the best I have ever had). It is a Latin American chocolate shop so it has a lot of interesting chocolate flavors like chocolate/chile and chocolate/mole. Little pricey, but worth it. Check this place out. I come here every week for one and but a few bars for my dad and little sister, we all like it but my dad likes to melt a small piece and put it coffee, then freeze it. Best frozen hot chocolate that I've ever had, bar none. After taking a lovely stroll with my husband and baby down college, I really felt like some ice cream. After seeing the line at Ici, I was kind of bummed and then an engel blessed me with a sign guiding me to casa de chocolates just around the corner. Out of view from all of the other shops and restaurants lining the street of College, this chocolate shop is a real gem and provides both familiar and unique flavors of sweet treats you love. My favorite dessert to get here has to be the Tres Leches Cake (I know, it's a chocolate shop, but they do these SO well!). The small version is only $5 and it is unbelievably good. The cake itself is so moist, due to the sauce on the bottom and delicious whipped cream on top. It truly is a wondrous dessert to eat any day of the week! I also like the flan, but sometimes it can get a little too hard for me (if you know what I mean). The first time I tried their coffee flan it was absolutely delicious and smooth. The second time, the coffee flan we got wasn't as smooth as the first. But the flavors are always there. I checked in on yelp and got a free mole chocolate bon bon. The outside was a hard shell of chocolate with beautiful designs on it, and all of the spices were in the inside. It was delicious. Next time, I will definitely try to get a box of chocolates for myself as a treat~ If you haven't been here or have been and haven't tried their selection of cakes, please try it out. Great reviews and positive word of mouth brought us into this little shop and now we can't seem to get enough. On our first visit here we wanted to stay on the safe side and only went with three chocolate bars: pistachio, chile mango, and almond. We were also eager to try the frozen Mexican hot chocolate and I'm SO SO glad we did because it was delicious! It is everything you can imagine just by the name AND MORE. After visiting this shop a couple of times, I am happy to have asked Daniel for his personal favorites and recommendations so we can fill a box of bon bons. He was such a great help and was able to describe what to expect from each bon bon. Every. Single. One. was perfect! We went from filling a small box (6 pc $15) to going the next size up (12 pc $27) because we wanted to try so many. You can definitely taste the quality in every bite. They're hecho a mano (handmade), decorated very nicely, and packaged very nice as well- you get what you pay for people! Very much worth the price. Thank you Daniel for all of your help and chocolate expertise. We now visit this shop every time we're in town and walk out with a full box of bon bons and of course TRES LECHES CAKE! I love this place! The little chocolates are so flavorful and delicious that I want to try every one until my face is covered! They also serve a really good frozen hot chocolate, highly recommend that! There's so many interesting flavors here and lots of skull/skeleton shaped pieces which is perfect for the Dia de la Muertos or Halloween. Don't get me wrong, these sweets are too expensive to pass out to little ghosts and goblins who trick or treat but maybe you're wealthy. The service is friendly and quick. I can't believe I've lived in Berkeley for over a year and didn't stop in this place until yesterday! I am a chocoholic, and this place is a chocolate lover's dream. I sampled the espresso chocolate and the sea salt, both of which were great. Settled on a bag of apricot coconut macaroons drizzled with chocolate, and a truly delectable little truffle. My boyfriend ordered a frozen Mexican hot chocolate, which may very well have been the best frozen dessert I've ever tasted. The tres leche cake is decadent and so light...truly the best I've ever had. Now for the actual chocolate...it melted in my mouth and there isn't a competition between the flavors and chocolate...both perfectly compliment each other. But, did I really have to run into the owner bulding himself a becnh in the front so he could read his book "Chocolate?" lol he was actually a pretty cool guy and is one of the reasons we are going back! First impressions. OH YEAH.. and bet $$$$$ that "Zaldy H" is either owns his/her own chocolate spot or is just a troll. I say if 9 out of 10 people like it the it's a win! No matter what the Zagat Survey type reviewer thinks. MAybe if you didn't sit there trying to figure out the molecular structure of the chocolate then you may have enjoyed the chocolate. Hands down, the best cup of hot chocolate I've ever had. Truly. If you're like me, you hate ordering a hot chocolate at a coffee shop just to end up sipping on a "chocolate" drink that taste like water. I want HOT CHOCOLATE, not hot water, with chocolate flakes mixed in. On many occasions I've actually had to go back to the barrista a coffee shop and ask them to add more chocolate, and it still doesn't do the job. Thankfully, my search for real, authentic hot chocolate is over! For the first time, I stepped into Casa De Chocolates. It is a sanctuary for chocolate lovers like myself. The aromas are inviting, and the displays of pure chocolate are enticing. But on this one particular gloomy Monday morning I just wanted a good hot chocolate -- so took the chance of ordering at Casa de Chocolates, instead of just going to the coffee shop across the street, and I'm so happy I did! The entire hot chocolate, from the first sip until I was done was absolutely delicious. It tasted like I was drinking chocolate! I loved it. It was so good, that after sitting in my car and taking my first sip I stared at my cup in disbelief and literally said, "No Way". Thinking the flavor was going to escape as I continued to drink, but ecstatic that it never did. So, what's the moral of the story? I went to Berekeley for a little adventure with Casa de Chocolates in mind. The hour drive was worth every minute. When you walk in the shop, it's hard not to gawk at the beautiful dark chocolate bon bons. And then there are all the freshly baked desserts! The owner, Amelia, couldn't have been kinder, offering me a sample of the cajeta - a dome-shaped bon bon filled with a creamy goat's milk caramel that just melted in my mouth. While I was trying to narrow my choices down to six bon bons, Amelia saw I was cold and brought me a cup of Mexican hot chocolate. Besides being a kind gesture straight from the heart, the hot chocolate is the best I've ever had. I've never had hot chocolate so rich. And, while Amelia was telling me the secret to making such rich cocoa, she confided that she adds a secret ingredient to bring out the flavor of the cocoa. I finally left the store with an assortment of bon bons and 4 coconut macaroons. My husband and I enjoyed everything. His favorite: the peanut butter chocolate and a new alcohol infused bon bon. My favorite: the coconut macaroon - I just wish I'd bought more coconut macaroons so I could eat them for breakfast every morning with an espresso. Now that would be heavenly! read more

A friend mentioned this place and so I wanted some chocolates from here on my way to that friends house for dinner. I checked the hours on yelp, and on their website. They were supposedly open until 7 pm on wednesdays. I called ahead. There was no answer; the voicemail did not indicate there were any different hours. When I arrived, it was closed for a special event. Between parking near college avenue during a busy time, and the trip out here, I wasted about 45 minutes of my time due to this business's is failure to communicate, or hold regular published business hours.
