I finally made the drive to Casa Centro in Springfield and had mixed feelings about a few dishes. We sat outside on a beautiful day, which made for a pleasant dining experience. Our server was very nice and personable throughout the meal. He did forget to bring silverware and napkins for the appetizers, so we had to ask for them, but otherwise the service was friendly. We started with the chips, salsa, and queso. The chips were fresh, crisp, and not overly salty. The salsa tasted fresh and homemade, and the queso had a nice kick that kept me coming back for more. I also tried the street corn. Unfortunately, this was my least favorite item. It tasted more like corn that had been poured straight from a can rather than fresh roasted street corn. The birria empanadas were good, with a crispy shell and flavorful filling. The sauce served with them was delicious. My only surprise was that I expected the cheese, onion, and cilantro to be inside the empanadas, but most of those toppings were served on the plate instead. For my entrée, I ordered the bowl with half chicken and half shrimp. The shrimp was the star of the dish. It had a nice crispy coating, was seasoned well, and had great flavor. The chicken was a little under-seasoned in comparison, but the portions were generous and they definitely didn't skimp on the protein. My dining companion ordered the California Burrito. The presentation was impressive, and it was definitely a substantial portion. However, we were surprised to find green beans inside, which wasn't something either of us expected in a California Burrito. Overall, the restaurant was clean, the portions were generous, and there were definitely some highlights. The fresh salsa, queso, shrimp, empanada sauce, and portion sizes stood out the most for me. My husband and I discovered this restaurant during an overnight stay in Springfield. If I lived there, I would eat at this restaurant daily. Everything was fresh and house made. We had a margarita flight with lime, mango, and raspberry margaritas. It was perfect for two people, and the margaritas were obviously freshly made. My husband had the carne asada, and it was beautifully plated. He said it was very good. I had the house soup, which was flavorful and very good. I would eat it every day on the wintertime. Casa Centro is bringing modern Mexican cuisine to Springfield in the most delicious way. My partner and I went on a rainy, humid early summer Saturday. The food was spot on. We ate two baskets of chips and three things, including the best Mexican salsa. The chips were warm, and the salsa was super fresh. It didn't taste like anything canned, which I feel happens at Mexican restaurants more often than not. I ordered the Al Pastor tacos! Wowzer. They had a street truck feel but an upscale flavor. They were so good that I already want to go back. I also liked the black refried beans and Spanish rice. My partner got a spicy shrimp dish with warm tortillas and Spanish rice. He said it was one of the best Mexican dishes he had eaten in a while. The place's decor is top-notch, and the seating style and areas can accommodate everyone. The experience was very good all around. Upscale dining area and bar, good appetizers, cocktails and the food definitely a step up from your typical Mexican restaurant. The menu goes beyond traditional Mexican dishes especially in the seafood area. We sat at the bar and were served by Daniel, he did a nice job, even made my wife an off menu jalapeño margarita. My husband and I drove to Springfield to meet friends from Dayton. There are three Mexican restaurants in the downtown area so this was just a random pick of the three. The decor was just beautiful, especially the hand painted ceiling and all the unique tiling. I selected the margarita flight and my fav was the raspberry and I loved how they were served. My husband got the first margarita on the menu and WOW what a cool glass it was served in. Did I mention that the food and drinks were way less expensive than in Columbus??? I ordered the barbacoa burrito and my husband ordered the tacos. Both were made with authentic yet gourmet, unique flavors and spices. We will definitely meet up here again. Wish I had taken some photos. I rarely YELP but I just had to do so for this upscale jewel in downtown Springfield. read more

This is the BEST Mexican restaurant I have been to in the Dayton, Spfld and Columbus areas. The food was excellent and very flavorful. There were 4 of us. We each had different meals. Taquitos, Camarones Macha (Shrimp), Carne Asada and Sopas. I wish I could remember our server's name. We were seated at a table in the bar area. The service was exceptional. He told us how long it would take to get our meals. He asked 3-4 times if everything was ok. Our water glasses were kept consistently full. Our waiter had a great personality as well. He answered all of our questions and cleared our plates immediately when we were done eating. The restaurant is extremely clean and all of the employees were very personable. Authentic Mexican cuisine. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. The beans (black beans) and rice were so good and not over cheesed. Grilled fish tacos were delicious as was the guacamole, salas and chips. Requested some extra hot salsa which they explained was hand crafted. The place was busy at 5 on a Saturday.
