I met friends here for lunch yesterday. I asked if I could order off the Kids Menu. The waiter said Yes, and then mumbled something else. I thought he said that he would make an exception. Other friends ordered the Lunch Menu taco salad for $8.95. I ordered the taco salad off the Kids Menu for $6.95. My lunch was much smaller than the others, which was exactly what I wanted. When my check came, I was charged $6.95 plus a $2.00 charge. The waited told me there was a surcharge for ordering off the Kids Menu! This is outrageous! I won't be returning! read more

Fortunately I wasn't looking for a bar scene because there wasn't anyone at the bar. No tv and no ppl. All alone, I ordered the Taco Tuesday tacos. The only option for Taco Tuesday is hard shells. Surprisingly they shells were stale. Pliable actually. How do you have stale taco shells on Taco Tuesday?? I dumped the filling out and ate it with tortilla chips. Let me start by saying the food is delicious but on this particular evening the service was terrible, atmosphere terrible, we were seated in a small room, low ceiling, already filled room. Very slow service. The waiter was rude, he became very irritated when we asked for a glass of water. He chatted with the table next to us while he was taking our dishes, ignoring the fact we were ready to go & wanted our check. I arrived to Troy, OH late on a Sunday. After trying to dine at a half a dozen other area restaurants and finding them all closed, I finally found an open one, Los Pitayos. I was seated immediately, and service was solid, but creepy. Throughout my meal, I would find the server staring at me from afar. For dinner, I always try the mole sauce when visiting a new Mexican restaurant. At Los Pitayos, I discovered a terrible, horrific mole sauce. The worst I have ever tasted. It smelled great, like chocolate. However, it tasted like the packaged Lipton soup. Super salty. The accompanying tortillas were warm, but hard as a rock. They ripped a part when folded. The side guacamole salad was a solid teaspoon of guac on shredded lettuce. On my next visit to Troy, I'll arrive earlier or eating at the Waffle House. read more

From the second you sit down here you know it is a great decision. Always very clean, the service is fantastic, and the food has an authentic Mexican style. This is not Americanized Mexican, this has seasoning to it. All you can each chips and salsa, ground or shredded beef, they will customize any dish for you, and even have a $9 all you can each lunch special. I have never had a bad dish, but if I did they would remake it with no hassle. There is a cozy bar to sit at in the back if you just want a drink. Their margaritas are not bucket blend, they are done right. You can call ahead if you have a large group and they will accommodate you. OK for kids. Not impressed. Salsa was lackluster. It tasted like tomato sauce mixed with jalapeno juice. I ordered cheese enchiladas. The sauce had a canned, Chef Boyardee tomato sauce taste. Rice was okay. This is the best place to go in the Troy OH area if you want authentic Mexican food without the fuss. The food is prepared using no fillers or peanut oil, it's affordably priced, and the wait staff is very friendly. The food is delicious and beautifully presented, and comes on a plate so hot that the waiters have to use mitts. Absolutely fantastic. read more

After yesterday's pitiful meal at El Sombreros(see review) the visit here was enjoyable. The food was good by Ohio standards, OK by New York standards. The flan was nice and smooth not custard style! :) The chips were nice and crispy; the only thing needing help was the "salsa" had no chilantro or onions and certainly could be more picante; but as the manager explained to me "customers are all "Gringo" can't make the salsa too spicy. Certainly look forward to eating here again on my next visit to the Troy area. And yes they do accept Amex! :) read more

I don't feel this place gets the recognition it deserves, although it seems to be catching on more than in years past. Most recommendations for Mexican food in Troy, are for that "other" restaurant downtown, but this place is much more authentic. The dining room is large and they also have a large bar area. The staff is friendly and very accommodating, and the food is very good. They have an extensive menu and they've recently been offering special menu items that are changed regularly. read more

Well I don't know what all the fuss is about this place but when we got there for lunch we had limited time for lunch. We all made our orders and it took forever and there was no one there, and some of us had to take it on the go. The beans were runny, and the portion were small and the salsa was not good at all. Although the chips seemed home made. And the authenticity is not there. I am from Texas and this is not authentic. So I highly don't recommend this place. read more
