Party of four. We had good food and great service. There was quite a variety of selections. Fajitas were said to be good. My own chile rellenos, the cheese version used with a combination plate were good; there is also a stuffed chili relleno that I should've purchased. The combinations are pretty standard, and uninspiring, but the others liked their food. Chips and salsa were fine; we didn't try the booze. This place opened a couple years ago in a former Pizza Hut. The food is nice Mexican food like tacos, quesadillas, burritos, queso and chorizo with huevos. The chips and salsa are free. We usually drink diet Code or unsweetened iced tea. I don't know if they have a bar. We've met the owner, Sergio, several times and he's a doll. All the servers we've had are Mexican or Latin and English is definitely a second language, but we've had no trouble making ourselves understood. The ambiance is very casual with both tables and booths. There are Mexican art objects like Deos de las Muertas (Day of the Dead) pictures and little knick knacks. It's busy at lunchtime because lots of people who work at the base eat there starting around 11:30. We probably go there every two weeks or so. Worth the trip! read more

This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Staff are friendly and know us by name. Sergio and the team do a great job and the service is always surprisingly quick. Food is phenomenal. Went for dinner, they have a great menu, with a lot of foods not available at other Mexican restaurants in the area. My husband ordered the enchiladas banderas plate, which he said was pretty good. He didn't even offer me a bite, so I can't say if they were good or not. The shrimp enchiladas my friend ordered looked amazing. The topping looked great. I ordered the chili relleno. This is one of my favorite meals to order. There are not many places in the Dayton area that make them properly. Well, let me tell you, these were almost perfect. Comparable to those I ate while living in San Antonio! I was a little disappointed in their chips, but they weren't a deal breaker. Better chips would have resulted in a 5 star rating. Love this little restaurant! The waiters are always friendly and accommodating. The food is really good. I like the food better than El Toro. Prices are right and you can tell the ingredients are quality. They do have lunch specials if you're interested in saving some money. The food here is really good and the service is super fast. Their carnitas are the best. I also like all of their fajitas I have tried. Margs are good too. Service is so quick you can treat it like fast food if you are in a hurry or take your time and have some Margs, chips and salsa. The best Mexican in the area. read more

I have ate here twice so far: once carry out and once dine in. The food has been great both times. They are quick to serve you and everything is fresh! Their Mexican rice is the best I've ever had at any Mexican restaurant- it is very flavorful. I have tried the chimichangas and enchiladas, both which were good. Their salsa is pretty tasty too! I will return to this business. My only recommendation is they invest in some sound absorption panels for the restaurant. I am glad they are a "full house" often, but it is way too loud to enjoy a nice conversation with someone. We both had to shout to be heard. read more

Went to La Base Mexican Restaurant today, on Broad in Fairborn in the old pizza hut. They opened in November. We were there at opening and they got busy, about half full at lunch. Mostly uniformed base customers, predictably. Service was great, no problems there. They were recently remodelled and it's very nice inside. We wanted to like it. We saw a lot of potential on the menu before we went. The table side quac comes in the big stone molchete, it's made fresh to order and it was great, truly, too much tomato, but great anyway. Past that we were disappointed. Everything was very unseasoned and blah. We ordered things we normally order to compare, and in every case left wanting. I asked the diff between red and green chilequiles, red was hotter, I ordered green because I love Verde sauce. Got the red, I said hold on if it is crazy spicy I'll need it re-done but took one bite of a chip and NO HEAT none. So I kept it, but it wasn't very flavorful either. It was incredibly wet as well, they didn't strain the chicken I think, as a result the chips inside turned to sloppy muck. (You can see the puddle of water in the plate.) The beans or rice were absent of the flavor were used to. You can tell they didn't use drippings or broth in them and only water. Just bleh. Not even salt. The Tamale and Chile Relleno likewise were very unseasoned. The tamale had a thinner canned enchilada-style red sauce (versus the thick intense drool worthy gravy-like molè we are used to), but even the masa on it's own was very... Plain. No seasoning at all. The Chile Relleno was massive, the chile itself was only like the middle third, the rest was the heavy breading and again, just not much to offer on flavor. Very dissapointed, we might go back some Sunday to try the street tacos, but I'm thinking we'll just ride out our Sunday Mexican cravings till our regular place is open. (Or take my parents there who are afraid of spices. The old lady next to us asked for white rice but was really happy with the Mexican rice, yeah... ) It's better than El Toro and El Rancho Grande, but that's not much of a brag. (We normally go to the most excellent Las Margaritas Mexican Bar and Grill on Airway, but they aren't open on Sundays and we went wtf let's try the new place down the road. Needless to say but we will still be going to Las Margaritas. Elsewhere was never a real option because they are incredible, and the food is fantastic, too. The food is average. I can't remember what I had, so it's unremarkable. I was impressed that they made an old Pizza Hut not look like a Pizza Hut. It looks nice enough. The margaritas may have alcohol in them, but I won't swear to it. I would go back IF. I. COULD. HEAR. MYSELF. THINK. I put that in all caps because you have to either scream at the person across from you or just not talk until you leave. I have seen the comments about the volume in other reviews both here and on Facebook. Apparently, the La Base staff cares not one bit. Many people around here get all geeked up that there's "a new local business" and bend over backwards to support it. Most of them have no idea what's good anyway, so they think this is the bomb. I have been here on several occasions, mostly it's just my husband and I but on 1 occasion we had a table with 9 of us, EVERY VISIT and I repeat every visit has been wonderful.I have had something different every time and it's been outstanding. Fantastic food STRONG frozen margaritas, attentive waters that know their menu. Today my husband and I had the tres amigos. It was a dinner for 2 but it really was enough food for 3! Prices are very good for the amount of food you get. I am so happy they gave come to Fairborn and I will continue to frequent this establishment. read more

I've went to this location twice now. The first visit was for a quick lunch and it was great second visit want so great. The guacamole we ordered " grandmas recipe " it says had way too much onion in my opinion then the tacos we ordered also were half meat half onion. I am not sure it it was an off night but it left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

LaBase has become out go to Mexican Restaurant. You can even the Lunch menu specials on the weekends! We love to stop there after church for lunch on the way home. Sometime is a large group of us, but the service never fails to impress. Food is superb read more

Worst margarita I have had. Went for the more expensive one and it was awful so went for the "lime" thinking it would be better. It was undrinkable. Someone needs to give them a recipe that uses real lime and not bottled lime juice. Chips were bland as was the salsa. Chicken bowl was decent but not something I would go back for see because everything else was unimpressive. I will say the service was good but didn't make up for the quality of the food. read more

Checked out La Base in Fairborn last weekend. Family friendly atmosphere! Started off with Queso Fundido & Table-side Guacamole! OMG, the guacamole was ridiculously good!! So fresh & enough to share! The queso fundido was also fresh and plentiful! The Texas Fajitas - beef, chicken & shrimp were delicious! Great mix of onions, green peppers, tomatoes & served sizzling hot! Also included rice & refried beans, guacamole, sour cream, pico & fresh tortillas. The Horchata was very tasty as well! Definitely will visit again! Chori queso dip was very good and the best thing we found, but the chips weren't fresh and the rest of the meal was pretty bland. This restaurant looked like it was in an old Pizza Hut, so the ambiance was nothing special, but OMG. The food was great. The portions were huge. The service was very attentive. Happy hour goes from 4-8pm. You could get a 32 oz domestic draft for $5.75 and an imported Mexican draft for $6.75. A huge margarita was less than $8. If you are visiting the Air Force Museum, I would recommend you stop off here for dinner. read more
