I started coming to The Shop ever since CJ moved over. Once you find that perfect barber, you…read morefollow them wherever they go. I live on the South Shore, but I drive up to Somerville just to see CJ! CJ is perceptive to both the client's desires and also what will look good for each person. He clearly communicates what he plans to do, and he will pause to confirm your approval before continuing if it's a new look for you. This is THE most important quality in a barber, because I might have an idea for my haircut/beard trim in my mind, but the barber may see it differently. And now, since I completely trust CJ's judgement, I could walk in and say "Do whatever you want" and I wouldn't worry at all. It was CJ's judgement that led to my current beard style, and looking back it was obviously the right choice. If you need a new barber and don't know where to go, book CJ at either of The Shop locations. I've been going to CJ for years, so the move to The Shop was a no-brainer. Now I have a kid, and CJ cuts his hair, too - super convenient to get both done with one trip. My kid already had a few haircuts done before going to CJ, and CJ is amazing with kids. All the barbers in the place are respectful when we're there - they even sometimes change the music playlist to be kid-friendly, which is an awareness I really appreciate as a parent. The place is clean and welcoming, and the staff are efficient. Street parking is easy enough for the amount of time a haircut would take. I highly recommend CJ and 968 The Shop!

As someone who was born and raised in Somerville, I can say without a doubt that this place is an…read moreembarrassment and run by absolute clowns. They have no host at the front desk, which would be fine if every single barber in there didn't have an attitude as big as their gut. Before I even sat down for a haircut I was already given attitude by some douche working there who acted incredibly annoyed when he asked me if I had an appointment. I told him I did, and who I was there to see, and during that whole process he seemed annoyed that I was even there. This was the first red flag. The second red flag is after telling my barber that I wanted a low/mid skin fade (probably one of the most common haircuts for men in their 20-30's to get) he told me he "only does high fades" okay bozo - then why do you let people book different styles of haircuts through the app, which include all different types of fades? The haircut came out like absolute shit, which is no surprise given that my barber was ripping a cannabis vape for the entire duration of my haircut, during said haircut he spent the entire time talking about his history of drug use and all of his "past" issues with the law.....wtf? He almost seemed proud to be a complete loser. On top of ALL of this nonsense, this place charges more for a haircut than half of the "high end" barbershops in downtown Boston. Absolute joke. Anyone dumb enough to return here a second time almost deserves to be ripped off. This place is absolute garbage and I hope they go out of business soon.

Not only does Perfect Style feature a laid-back and relaxed atmosphere, the people there are very friendly. The HD TV mounted on the wall doesn't hurt things, either! While the perks are good, the primary reasons for going to Perfect Style are the superior workmanship and the affordability. My hair had been overgrown by several months when I walked into Perfect Style. When I left, I looked like a new person. The attention to detail given to me by Jake was incredible. I've unfortunately paid upwards of $30 for haircuts that didn't come out half as good and precise as the cut I got at Perfect Style. I keep mentioning price, so you're probably wondering how much the haircut was already. $10. I kid you not. Ten. One Zero. I was in disbelief when I learned that a "perfect style" haircut was only $10. At first, I was kind of nervous going into the situation. After all, the phrase "Ten Dollar Haircut" isn't exactly an endearing one. However, despite paying $10 for the haircut, I left with a "Fifty Dollar Haircut". I don't know how they do it. I almost felt guilty leaving the place, having only paid $10 for such an outstanding experience (although I did give Jake a good tip to help make up for it). I cannot imagine going anywhere else for a haircut ever again. If you're ever in the area and in need of a trim, go to Perfect Style. They live up to their namesake.
