Wesly is a design God. I get a different design every time I go and he never fails to impress me. The precision and creativity is a masterpiece in itself. I get hundreds of compliments on my undercut and the staff are hilarious. Best barber shop I've ever been to! read more

I have Been going here for 10 years Nelly and the staff is amazing. Definitely recommend!

I've been going here for my haircuts since 2017 as an out of state student. While I never really LOVED my haircuts here, I think that this is probably one of the better/affordable barbershops in the area. My experience today with Nelson was awful. I enter the barbershop, see he just seated somebody, and ask him if he's free after. He doesn't really say anything but just points at the chair. Then literally a minute later he gets a phone call and accepts an appointment saying "you can come in thirty minutes." I wouldn't call myself a mathematician but seeing that he just seated somebody and that I'm waiting, I think in thirty minutes I'd probably be in the chair. So I walk towards another barber and Nelson kinda yells across the barbershop Idk what he's doin! Anyway that wasn't even the unpleasant part. I asked for a really simple haircut.. a skin fade and a trim. I've had probably over 50 skinfades in my life and this one took so unnecessarily long. He kept hovering over my hair with the razors and barely making contact. I brushed this off as him trying to be detailed, though it felt incredibly annoying. He kept death gripping my ears down and he'd just take off my mask to cut off a side of hair but not put the mask back on. I had to hold my mask on at some point and he never put it back. My arm is full of cut hair as I type this. After what felt like eternity of people loud yelling across the room and very slow razor action in an extremely humid barbershop, he tells me to check out my cut. I had to ask him to let me see the back and when he showed me it, it was the most uneven shit I've ever seen. My back hair legit curved into a U shape with a mountain so I asked him to align the fade on the back with the sides.. I wonder what would've happened if I didn't ask for the back mirror. Fixing the back took another ten minutes and when I looked on my phone afterwards, I found that my sides aren't evenly cut... one side is puffy asf and the other is a bit slim. I also asked for a trim on the top and he somehow left it the same length but uneven. I've had many cuts here and around places in my life and I kept thinking to myself, "this is a terrible experience." I'd give it a one star review but I don't think people would read it if it were just one read more

I'm a woman and this was my first barbershop experience. Wesly was fantastic. Amazing attention to detail, listened to what I wanted and was meticulous. Highly recommended! read more

This place is awesome, they know what they are doing! I'm from LA and every time I'm in town this is my to go spot for a haircut, beard cut. I highly recommend this place. They take their time and make sure you leave happy. Thanks read more

Took me awhile to find a quality barber in Boston. I started at a place that is supposed to be super "popular" in the north end. (I won't name any names) but they really messed me up. I found Sampe. He got my fade perfect each time! And never messed up the top of my hair. Plus the prices are near the cheapest in the area! read more

I'm a queer brown woman who needed a good haircut. My brown fam suggested I come here and see Milq and I'm so effing glad I did. He'll fix that line and that kitchen. Everyone in here can keep your line tight and the best part about it is that all kinds of ppl come in- white, black, Asian, Hispanic, men, and women. They're super laid back, friendly, and don't make you (as a woman) feel out of place in a barbershop. Reasonably priced too- bring a 20 and a few bills for a tip and you're all set. Get right. read more

Alex is the man. He is my favorite and only barber that I will allow to touch my hair. He remembers the ways my cut is unique and is always in a cheerful and humble mood. The shop itself is renovated with two large flat screen TVs and comfortable couches. The barbers have known each other a long time and love to have normal barber shop banter which is fun. Make sure you call ahead after your first time and plan a time to come in, it will make you and your barber happier. read more

The best place to get a haircut in the area with reasonable price. I was little hesitant to pay a visit to this one as many other barbershops near NEU area disappointed me. It's pretty tough for Asian guy to get a haircut in Boston. I got a fade cut from this place and got compliments from several people. The shop is pretty lousy and can be little annoyed if you prefer quite place for haircut, I personally had no problem with that. The price is really good as well. I recommend this place. read more

In short, I have two long scars from razor burn on my temples after my cut today. While cleaning up the edges, my barber was moving the trimmer blade laterally instead of up and down, which seems like a pretty elementery mistake to make. I didn't have to wait, I liked the atmosphere of the shop, and the price was very reasonable, but I simply cannot forgive either the lack of care or training that would lead to injury during a simple haircut. read more

They have been very consistent. I have had multiple barbers and they all do a great job. Very friendly, very versatile.

Good cut. Reasonable prices. Took their time to "get it right" and high attention to detail. I prefer my primary barber in Boston but just as I did this time, I would return to Cut N Edge if my primary barber is unavailable and I do recommend to others - read more

Nelson is the man. Gave me a 5/5 haircut, medium fade and trim on top. He really takes good care of the customer and knows EXACTLY what he's doing. Highly recommend this place if you need a clean fade and lineup. read more

Worst. Haircut. Ever. Had a few haircuts before, they were okay. Got a haircut from the oldest barber there (senior citizen lookin' guy) and he straight up ruined my head. I can't believe he's still on the job. Lines were not straight, he cut into the top of my hair and did not give me what I asked for. read more

This place is a bit out of the way for me, but I was pretty unhappy with my last haircut at my local barbershop...I just didn't feel taken care of, know what I mean? So I thought I'd try this place out (I'm new to Boston and still on the hunt). Wesly really delivered. My last barber wasn't paying attention, and kept joking I'd probably hate my cut so much I wouldn't return. I probably won't, Cut N Edge was great. Also, it felt really good I was bouta fall asleep. read more

After several glowing recommendations, I finally decided to stop in to Cut N Edge on a whim for a haircut. What a really nicely appointed, CLASSY, Black barber shop. Tastefully decorated, beautiful art on the walls, nice music playing. This isn't your stereotypical barbershop- this is a top notch place. As a female, I'm always skeptical of trying new barbershops- are the guys in the shop going to be loud, talking a bunch of disrespectful yackity-yak about women, will there be blaring video games, the bootleg dvd salesman, and all that other stuff that typically comes with the neighborhood barber shop. Also, there is no shortage of women that come here to get their hair cut or their locs edged up. Nice! This is NOT that place. It's FABULOUS! Milq took care of me, and did a real nice job with my cut. Very, very nice guy, professional, and took his time to make me look GOOD. He even gave me a razor trim for my edges and sideburns- greatly appreciated! By the way, I didn't see anyone in the shop who looked like they'd ask for a symbol to be shaved into their head (as per Simon L.'s review)- lol! I'll be back! read more

So you know how finding a new barber in a new town is like finding a church, a gym or a mate. The search can be exhausting because you've got to find just the right fit...the right nuance...AND... it is risky. One bad cut can last you six months. After looking in the mirror this AM I knew I was at the point of desperation. Something had to be done and I couldn't go another day. It was too hot to wear a hat. So I trolled Yelp and searched for black barbershops then looked for comments from women. A good male barber isn't the same as good female barber. Well today I hit the jackpot. Nelson! He has rave reviews on here as does his shop. I called him immediately and he gave me a same day appointment. When I walked in he was waiting for me. No lines!. The shop was beautiful and CLEAN The best part is Nelson took the time to listen to my concerns and anxieties about trying a new barber. He did exactly what I asked for and my hair looks great. I couldn't be happier. Above all....I am relieved! Go see him. It's right next to the T! read more

This two-star rating is for the haircut. The barbershop itself is very nice, the men are professional and polite, and the barber who cut my hair is a cool and humble type of guy. But unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend the place to other women for a haircut. And I'd read pretty much all of the reviews before I went, I stopped by to talk to someone beforehand, I called ahead to ask if they could direct me to a person who is specifically skilled with womens' cuts, and then I even brought 5 different pictures with me for reference. I've also worn a tapered fade before so I knew how a good cut looks on me. I had a medium sized 'fro and I wanted them to take it all off and give me a nice, simple low cut with plenty of feminine detail (it was a VERY big deal for me). I stressed the fact that I did not want to come out looking like a boy. I came out looking like a boy. Toward the end, I had to finally just stop the whole thing and ask him to just line me up and I'd just pay him after that. When I left, I went to the nearest store and bought a hat, I was so embarrassed. I came home and wouldn't even let my roommate see it. Tomorrow morning I'm going to pick up a wig to wear until it grows out a little and I can do something to fix it. The last thing I'll say, in his defense, is that I don't think he's a bad barber, per say. That's the reason I'm keeping him anonymous. I just think that he didn't have the versatility to be able to do a nice cut for a lady. I trusted him with my hair and I just wished that he'd been honest about that. Also to his credit, he did sense my displeasure and told me not to pay for the cut, but I insisted on paying because he did do the work, but it just wasn't what I needed or asked for. read more

I'm quite possibly the whitest boy this barbershop has seen for quite some time, a fact that they made immediately but playfully clear to me, but then I just had to put up with some general ribbing for the rest of my time there--and the end result was well worth the teasing. Having recently quit my job and, around the same time, moved into the Mass Ave neighborhood, I started looking around for places that would give me some good ol fashioned fades and cat scratches, things I have been deprived of for over a year. While other, most flashy barbershops did not impress, Fabio at Cut N Edge was incredibly fast, neatened much more than I asked for, and just generally left me with a GREAT finished product, and in much less time than anyone else I'd been to . I won't be abandoning my barber, Christina, but I know where I'm coming when I was a dollar sign shaved into the side of my hair...and yes that IS the plan. read more

NELSON IS THE MAN! He is a miracle worker. Having just moved here from California, I was hunting for a barber that could do fades, line ups, and just dope haircuts in general. Until I found Cut N' Edge, I could not find a place in Boston that could get my haircut just right. Nelson really treats each one of his haircuts like a masterpiece -- he is a true artist. He has an aesthetic eye and is able to listen to my request carefully and cut my hair exactly the way that I want it. I believe that a good barber truly LISTENS to his customers and Nelson does just that. If you are looking for someone who can get a sick haircut and get it just right, look no further. All of the other barbers at Cut N' Edge are also extremely talented at cutting hair, as I have seen the work that they have done each and every time that I enter the shop. I also like Cut N' Edge because of its ambiance and excellent choice in music. The haircuts are also cheap in comparison to many other places found in Boston. Everyone at the shop is very friendly. They cut hair from people of all races and walks of life. Every time I go to get my hair cut, I feel very welcome and right at home. read more

This is a fine establishment with veteran barbers. Be sure to make an appointment and make sure you know who you want cutting your hair because once you choose, it would be weird to start going to another person in the same shop. They all seem loyal to that fact. When I walked in not knowing the place and I asked for a specific barber, no one else tried to reel me in to their chair, instead they tried to text the person I was asking for, who wasn't there, so I went to Nelson instead. Turns out he was actually the guy I was looking for in the first place, I just had the wrong name. Nelson is the owner I believe. He's been cutting hair for awhile and he listened to EXACTLY what I wanted and hooked me up. I live in New York, but anytime I go to Boston, I go to Nelson. I got my first styled part from him and loved the look. If you are looking to get a fresh looking cut and and find yourself in Boston's South End area definitely go here and ask for Nelson. I've also heard good reviews about a guy named Canoe and another guy named Milk. read more

$17 Men's Cut. Cash Only. Is it me or is this price hard to come by? I was astounded by how nice this place is on the inside. Clean. Chique. Couches in good condition and TV's on the wall. Music was pretty awesome, a mix of Latin and Hip Hop. My barber was Christmas (like the holiday), a friendly older man. The place wasn't chatty which was fine by me, you know us guys, we go in, get a cut, and we're out. I did show him a few photos of me with my previous hair-cut telling him that it was how I wanted it, the top was much shorter than I wanted, and also a bit on the thin side, maybe he's not used to handling asian hair yet. But the fade and the line up was pretty bang on, maybe the best I've had. I'm probably gonna head back in for my next cut if I don't find some other place in this price range. read more

I only go to cutting edge. This is the best men's barbershop shop in Boston. I see Pablo when I'm there. He is the best and he always knows exactly what I need. Pablo is also a very local guy sometimes I see him at the local gym. Always friendly and always gives the best haircuts. read more

What I love about Cut N Edge: 1. Super comfortable, laid back, friendly guys. 2. Attentive, even though they were busy and don't do reservations. It actually worked in our favor that my son got to watch and check things out awhile first. 3. No one even blinked at two white women coming in with their black son. Very accepting and affirming. 4, Christmas did a great job with my son's hair! And he was patient and gentle. read more

First, two tips: 1. This place only accepts cash. I was lucky I had cash which I never usually do. 2. Beware, google maps will lead you to an alleyway behind the shop. The shop is actually on Mass Ave. This shop is as good as it gets for sure. Men's haircuts are $20, so not the one $ sign I had gone in there expecting. But you got what you paid for--very very nice ambience, the guys are super cool and well-dressed. It's a great atmosphere ; don't be deterred if you're not Black--I, along with many of the patrons am not, and had a great time. The shop is inviting and hip. Canoe (he said, "like the boat"), cut my hair and did a super job. He took his time, and I'm someone who is usually rather dissatisfied with my haircuts (because I'm never able to articulate what I want), but left very happy. Thank you--I'm going back for sure. read more

This place is just awesome, period. Getting haircuts has always seemed to much like russian roulette to me - sometimes they'd be great, sometimes I'd enjoy it, but sometimes I'd spend way too much money for something that I couldn't wait to grow out. Cut N Edge is just perfect. Not too expensive? You can't beat 17 plus tip. Good experience? Nelson is just a really friendly, really chill guy. Great haircut? Nelson explained to me about how he likes to get to know people to figure out what sort of haircut suits them, and then spent time making absolutely sure that everything was even. 5 stars doesn't seem like enough. I highly recommend this place if you want a decent hair cut in a respectable establishment with somewhat neighborhood barbers with professionalism. As a black Northeastern student, the location is ideal--although I didn't start going to this barbershop until my junior year--simply because it's tucked away I didn't know about it. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because unlike the barbershops here, my barbershop at home (Chicago) provides a real barbershop experience which includes: wash, sometimes a complementary shave--which is awesome. Nonetheless, Cut N Edge is decent. Average cuts range from 15-20. Expect passionate discussions about sports, politics, & life. read more

Thought I'd give this place a shot since it got great reviews here. Was not disappointed. Great environment, friendly staff, and they took great care of me. I had Nelson give me a line-up. I asked for one thing, but he politely suggested something that ended up looking a lot better and though it took a little more work on his part, he didn't charge me extra! To be fair this was my first time, but you can bet I'll be back again! I haven't looked this good in over a year! read more

This is the place to go for great, stylish haircut. The prices are very reasonable, around $20 for a cut and beard grooming (great for a student's budget). Nelson cut my hair and he was awesome. He knew exactly what I was looking for, great taper on the sides, great work with clippers on the top for a messy Mohawk look, great work with the razor to edge it all up. Honestly the best haircut I've ever received. Nelson was very personable and easy to talk with. If you're a big Boston sports fan, talk with him about some of his customers, I guarantee you'll be impressed. The barbershop itself is in a very nice neighborhood and the interior is tastefully decorated. Get your next cut at Cut N Edge, you'll leave looking very fresh. read more

Had a very bad experience. I went in, everyone seemed busy. So I looked around, and was greeted by a middle aged guy wearing a red hat. Said his name was Ramone (not even sure of this; he mumbled a lot). I told him, specifically, that I needed a haircut and was looking for a new style. He nodded ok. So I sat down and he prepped me. Then, before I knew it, he started trimming my sides! I yelled at him to stop and asked what was going on. But, by that time, he had trimmed a significant portion off one side. When he stopped , he mumbled something like "don't worry, I make you look good!". I had no choice but to let him continue. In the end, he ended up giving me a decent haircut, but it was not at all what I wanted. In retrospect, maybe it was my fault for not asking for a stylist, or for not asking for the manager. However, if I say I want a new style, I expect the guy to at least talk me through it. I'd advice to ask for a stylist specifically. read more

Awfully unprofessional haircuts, had the TV blaring full volume while the barber was watching the TV, yelling across the room to other barbers, and attempting to cut my hair over aggressively. From my experience with actual skilled hair stylists and barbers, I cannot believe that my barber used a razor on the top of my head while you would expect any barber to use scissors. He didn't even ask me what I wanted before he started to buzz away. The place looks nothing like what it does in the pictures that they try to make look professional and the supreme standard. I normally would not write this review because I believe they affect businesses poorly due to one person's perhaps biased point of view, but this business really deserves this one star. As a newcomer to Boston looking on Yelp for a place to get a good haircut, their 4.6 stars really fooled me. Spend your 20-25 dollars elsewhere, you'll be treated much better and not receive a haircut you could get in any college dorm. read more

Had a great experience. Heard about this place and thought of giving it a shot. Got an appointment with Alex who not only understood my requirement but also asked me before certain steps (very important - you don't want your hair to be cut super short beyond your req and then be asked if you want it shorter which is exactly what he said). After he was done, he asked if it was fine or if I wanted it a bit shorter and then cut it further on my demand without any problems. Great professionalism. P.S. also helped me Venmo him since I didn't have cash lol read more

Just got my haircut here by Nelson and i am satisfied! I moved to Boston 4 days ago and googled barbershops and this place came up so i gave it a shot because its right off the T stop. I liked the vibe and cleaniness overall of the shop and I asked for Nelson(owner) based purely off of the reviews online. He did a good job and was very detailed. I will be back faithfully twice per month. It also helped that i came in on a Monday which was pretty dead so any barber was available.
