Rack of Ribs - Very meaty
Steven B.

We were pleasantly surprised with our dinner tonight. This little mom and pop BBQ restaurant that has been around since 1999, totally hit it out of the ball park. It is located on a side street, the storefront is very plain and the dining room is as stated in another review, very minimalist. However, their ribs and side dishes are top notch. In fact, they are better then some of the popular BBQ joints in the big city of STL. I drove by after work, running a local errand before going home and saw on their marque, Rib Dinner for 2 $23. Sounded good to me, so after completing my errand I called home and suggested their deal for dinner. We agreed to take a chance and give Carver's a try. I already know I will be picking dinner up from here again, in the future. Our dinner included; a full rack of ribs, four individual sides and two dinner rolls. Both of us enjoyed the cole slaw which was in a light vinegar and oil dressing with sunflower seeds sprinkled on top. Great flavor, it was not neither to sweet or tart. Goldie Lock's would say, "it's just right". I enjoyed the the green beans, which were fresh and made with bacon. Enough said, we all know everything is better with bacon. My dinning partner loved his baked beans. They were in a rich flavorful sauce and they too had pieces of bacon. It was obvious the sides we choose are definitely made in house. Our ribs were the biggest surprise. At first I had my doubts, when I saw they placed them in a Styrofoam container. I thought they'd wrap the whole rack up in aluminum foil, so we could cut them up at home. To our delight when we lifted the lid on our container, it was full of individual ribs. They had already done the carving for us and each rib was full of pull off the bone tender meat. Their dry rub added enough flavor for me, so I did not need either of the sauces they provided. The DP, did use the sauces and totally preferred their house which is a spicy sweet. The service was what you'd expect at a mom & pop, small town restaurant. It was relaxed, casual and friendly. They say, good things come in small packages. Perhaps we can also say, good restaurants come in small towns. When: 28MAR14 Why: Dinner

It was so disappointing, that I didn't even eat it all. I threw half of it away and I rarely waste food. My Two Plate was a Pork Steak and Brisket, with Smokehouse Beans and Spicy Cheese Corn. The Pork Steak was good, but the Brisket was dried and tough. The Smokehouse Beans have disappointed me before, but I wanted to give them another chance. Again, they were to runny and had not enough seasoning to give them pizzaz. Their Spicy Cheese Corn was just okay, it was cheesy, but did no live up to the "Spicy" name. What was most disappointing was the customer service. The young lady taking my order was friendly and professional, so she gets a thumbs up. The disappointment came when I was presented my order at the counter. As I waited for my for to be prepared I took a stool at the counter, just down from the register. When it was ready, the owner brought it out and dropped the bag in front of me and turned to walk away. No thank-you, no nothing. I had to speak first, to get response and it was just faint grunt. It is a sad day when a business owner cannot thank a customer for supporting his business.

I've enjoyed; Pork Steak, Chicken Breast, Meat Loaf, Ribs and Hamburger. My sides have been, Mac-n-Cheese, Greet Beans, Scalloped Potatoes and Baked Beans. None have been disappointing, except for the cheese on the burger. I was just a cold slice of American Cheese placed on top. I did a little zap in the microwave to get it to melt a little when I got it home. The service is friendly and attentive. The reason they lose a star from me is one employee, is not so friendly. She's middle-aged and has the personality of a wet rag. I cringe when she is the one assisting me at the counter. When assisted by other employees it is an entire different experience. I will return and hope that I do not get the negative lady and hopefully be able to raise them back up to 5 Stars.

Everyone was pleased with their food. The only thing keeping B&H from getting 5 Stars is the service. It's never consistent. One time it's over the top and the next time it's the bare minimum. It really depends on who you get as a server. The seasoned ones who have been for a long time, know how to work a table. The newer and younger ones, just don't get it. There was only one car on the lot, and it didn't look like the lights were on. Another vehicle showed up and went to the door. Lo and behold they were open. We followed suite and went inside. The young man at the counter didn't greet us. So we opted to use the self service kiosk. We already browsed the menu ahead of time to make everything easy. We both ordered the chicken Sandwich combo, which comes with 1 side and a breadstick. You can choose what flavor you want, so i opted to get the Nashville hot (Spicy). We waited about 10 minutes before we got our food, i checked my bag to ensure everything was correct and headed home. The food was still piping hot once we got home. The Sandwich was juicy, and tender. Seasoned well, and not overly spicy. The fries were crispy, but yet still soft in the middle. They were little spiral cut fries. The breadstick was soft, and fluffy and the Parmesan drizzle on top added extra flavor. The Nashville street corn was delicious. The Parmesan drizzle was a great added touch. I would add a little salt to add some flavor/seasoning and some shredded Parmesan for extra texture. There are two small tables inside for those who want to dine in. There are also a few slot machines for those who like to play slots. It's painted black so it makes the place feel small and dark. Plenty of parking outside. Definitely worth giving them a try.
