Carvel - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Virginia Beach, Virginia

Ordering experience: I went to Carvel on 02/20/2026 to order a cake for pickup on 03/21/2026. Unfortunately, ordering in store was not "easy", even though it was really easy last year. I'm guessing the worker was new, but the customer service was just very off. I would give him a certain detail of the cake, he would write it down, and then there were just long awkward pauses where he would just stare at me and not say anything else to me. I had to repeatedly ask if he needed more information or if I could pay now, but he would just continue to stare, and then just when I thought everything was finished, he would finally ask another question after a significant delay. It genuinely took a while, and it was just a strange and draining process. I was also given wrong information after all that waiting. One question he asked me was what size heart-shaped cake I wanted. He told me the sizes, and I responded with 8 inches. Later on, another worker came over to ring me up and asked me what size I wanted. I told him the first worker already wrote down 8 inches. I was then told that 8 inches isn't even an option for a heart-shaped cake. It's always great to train your workers more, but I think it would also be really beneficial to have a form asking for the details required to order a cake. That way, the customer can fill out the details of the cake themselves! It really would have saved a lot of my time and made the entire process much smoother. Cake experience: The cake turned out well :) I think it helped that I clarified details about the cake when I emailed them the photo to print on the cake. Pickup was easy. Since I had a designated pickup date and time slot, all I had to do was walk in and ask for the cake. read more

I was craving ice cream and I remembered Carvel was nearby. I don't make it in often, unless I'm in the area.. This place is nostalgic because they've been around for a while. Ahhh memories!! So I stopped in to try the birthday cake ice cream. The cashier was nice. There are a few seats to eat inside. The birthday cake ice cream was ok, but it was too many sprinkles. I was crunching on the sprinkles more than the ice cream. I think next time I'll get it without sprinkles, and I'll enjoy it more. I still like Carvel, but I'll stick to my regular Oreo sundae that I normally get. That always hits!! They have several different flavors, ice cream cakes, cookie ice cream sandwiches, and more!! Check them out!! read more

I ordered 2 scoops of the butter pecan ice cream and immediately noticed something was off -- it didn't taste like butter pecan at all. I even mentioned it to my husband while eating it. I'm glad I didn't finish it, because I barely made it home before getting sick. I can't say for certain what caused it, but the off taste and the aftermath were enough for me. I won't be returning and would caution others to be careful with this flavor. read more

The only Carvel in Virginia Beach, but my favorite place for ice cream cakes!! Prices have been creeping up, just like everywhere else. But their cakes and soft serve are consistently delicious! So creamy & smooth and simple yet exceptionally tasty! Staff are always cheerful and kind! The young lady that wrote on my cake did a beautiful job fitting all the writing on my small cake. She definitely has mad skills and great spatial perception! They offer military discounts and you can also use it in conjunction with coupons as well!! Save those $3 off coupons on the larger cake boxes for 10" or larger cakes! read more

BEST SOFT SERVE at 'da beach! Favorite treat for all my sweet kiddos during our residence there; even into adulthood! Visit EVERY time I have chance on my travels to VA Beach today! First tasted as a wee child in NY and THRILLED to find nearby Kings Grant when first moved to 'da beach! Love their ice cream cones & sandwiches, ice cream cakes, too! BUT THE BEST is when they created 'cold brew' coffee flavored soft serve! YUM!! Good value for pricing of excellent custard-style soft serve ice cream! Service always delightful; even with changing ownership and summer staffing! Eat-in or out under cover at very casual tables and chairs! read more

Okay, let's be straight with each other - did anyone else not know that Carvel did treats other than cake? Just me?! I came with my family because I kept getting ads about their sundays and ice cream treats with the crunchies. You know, the chocolate crunchies that are inbetween the layers or Carvel ice cream cakes? THOSE chocolate crunchies!!! We HAD to come! I was pretty surprised that they had full freezers of ice cream sandwiches, cakes, and ice cream. They have a pretty big menu of frozen treats from cones, to milkshakes, and blizzard-like treats. I opted to get an ice cream cone with the crunchies (obv) and my boyfriend got a chocolate oreo milkshake. The milkshake is THICCCK with three C's y'all! It comes with a spoon to help out, lol. We enjoyed our treats but I do think that they are pretty pricey. Two things came out to about $12 which would get a couple treats at other places. read more

Childhood memories of Carvel in New York drove me to venture down. It happened to be a Wednesday , BOGO for classic sundaes- double delicious. the line was long , but moved fast, and the 2 staff was hustling along , so wait time was good, about 5 min. Their smiles and pleasant demeanor did not waver despite the busy night - remarkable. The store is small and has limited selections, but we were there for the creamy soft serve, topped with hot fudge. Just as good as I remember; even better on a beastly hot humid evening. worth the drive from the beachfront. read more

We've driven by Carvel a million times on the boulevard and I can't believe we've never stopped in! The staff was so kind and deserve an A+ for presentation. We got the Banana Foster and a soft serve swirl with rainbow sprinkles. Man, they LOADED us up on the toppings. Look at all that caramel!! We've been buying Carvel ice cream cakes from the grocery store for years, and while we were at the shop we saw that they sell MINI ones in little cups!! Next time we're buying a whole pack to take home. We'll definitely be back! read more

This place should be illegal because it is so good. My sister always raves about Carvel. Growing up I had their cakes and to me it was just another cake but in Ice Cream form. BUT let me tell you, this place is now my guilty pleasure. Their chocolate crunchies carvelanche is soooooo good! I remember growing up as a kid and absolutely falling in love with the chocolate crunchies in their ice cream cake, so that is why I decided on the carvelanche. The soft serve and the crunchies --chef kiss-- and I highly recommend it; however it may be gone in minutes if you devour it like I did. I also got the Brookie Sundae Dasher and it was amazing! I got a small but it is still a good amount of ice cream! I had to actually put this one in the freezer because it was so rich. However, even after eating it the next day it still tasted great. The store is a bit small so it can't hold that many people in there and there wasn't many cake options for those who are looking for cakes. The staff was extremely nice and patient, and since this was our first visit to a carvel location we were happy we didn't feel rushed. read more

This review might be a bit biased because I LOVE Carvel and have lots of memories of a child getting the soft serve and ALWAYS a Carvel cake for my birthday. :) If I could I would eat it everyday. We were immediately taken care of by a very nice girl. I wish I got her name. We were there on National Ice Cream Day. She asked if we were ready or needed more time. Nice. I asked her questions and she answered all of them and told us about a NEW flavor and offered us a sample. Nice. I got my norm....chocolate soft serve and my husband got the new flavor. We devoured them. :) There are 2 tables inside. I just love their soft serve.....so creamy. Definitely recommend trying their soft serve. read more

I'm not going to tell you how often I come here because it's embarrassing. My favorite thing in Virginia Beach? The 'Open' sign at Carvel. I found myself in the midst of a rough day and thought, "You know what? I'm going to eat my feelings." It's the right and adult thing to do. Off to Carvel. The cold brew soft serve with hot fudge is awesome, but the Reese's Sundae Dasher? Ugh, yes. Drown my feelings in peanut butter sauce. The staff here is always pleasant. I have never had a negative interaction. If you too need to eat some sucrose laced positive feelings, this spot is for you. read more

Native New Yorker... grew up on black & white milk shakes...hands down an all time classic! So, todays the day I'm going to Carvel to get my favorite .... When I arrived there was an understandable line.. it's a beautiful Friday evening.. I noticed b4 I got out the car a DOG on a leash in the line... Hmm looking closely... I don't see a harness identifying a service dog... SO why is this dog in the store on the line for ice cream?.. Don't know - don't care!.. I'm NOT standing outside at the ice cream truck!.. I was pretty appalled to say the least!.. It will be a minute before I go back... o.. milk shake was ok.. dog in the ice cream shop took my appetite away ‍‍‍‍ THAT'S all! read more

I don't usually come to Carvel too often, as I don't usually over indulge on ice cream cakes, ice cream cones, and shakes, oh my. I came in on my birthday to get an ice cream cake, which I'm still eating little by little. When you come in, the place is actually pretty small. There are cakes in the coolers to the right as you enter the place. They also have regular ice cream, soft serve ice cream, shakes and more. They also have some indoor and outdoor seating. When I came in, it was actually a little busy. I wasn't overly surprised considering how warm it had been outside around that time. After finding the right size cake, I used the birthday coupon I got in my email from them as well. On a side note regarding coupons, the staff told me that they honor all of their coupons, whether expired or not. The staff here are very friendly and are willing to help you in any way possible. You don't feel rushed into getting something. Now, for the ice cream cake itself. The ice cream cake was delicious. I've always had a great experience with cakes from Carvel. Even though it was a bit of a hike to bring it home, it was still nice and cold with minimal melt as well. Nothing from the cake tasted overpowering from other parts of the cake. I did have the cake personalized for my birthday. If you're looking for a good ice cream cake, look no further than Carvel. You won't be disappointed. read more

Carvel - Birthday ice cream cake from Carvel - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Virginia Beach, Virginia

We come to VA Beach once a year for a conference and always look forward to a Carvel treat. Well, the prices have gone up and the amount served has gone down. When I asked if the product was weighed, her comment to me was :" I have worked here so long I don't need to weigh it." She went back to looking at her phone and didn't even bother to say goodbye or thank you when we left. The store could have used a good cleaning. The glass on the door and front of the building was filthy. As an employee, she should be looking to make her work place clean. read more

Great soft serve, store is extremely outdated though. Staff is alright but still worth it for the Icecream

Got an ice cream cake for my birthday and it was so good. The crunch and the icing went together so well and reminded me of those good cakes at kids bday parties it took me back. 10/10 one of the best ice cream cakes I have ever had!!! Will be coming back read more

the 5 stars should really speak for themselves. Best soft serve ice cream in the 757, hands down! It's so creamy, not overly sweet, just the right amount of everything! I love coming here for a good craving, especially when they have their seasonal Cinnabon flavor, it's to die for! read more

We've been going to this establishment at least once a month but now it's not longer worth it. This was suppose to be a banana dasher, basically is a melted ass ice cream. Workers were lazy and said, ugh I have to cut up a banana. Then some lady walks into the store and goes straight to the back and makes her 4 shakes and walked out, clearly did not pay for it while I paid over $5 for melted ice cream and sloppy as well. There are other locally owned ice cream stores that my family and I well support. If your customer service sucks especially during a pandemic and you need to stay afloat, maybe you guys should try to improve it. read more

Quick and easy after dinner dessert spot. $15 was the total for 3 people. Looking to visiting this location again.

I haven't been to carvel in years. There was such a nice young man working behind the counter, quite but very helpful. Extremely knowledgeable and good at his job. He anticipated that because i had kids and said i want a small, he recommended i look at the size. A small is really large for kids and im glad he pointed that out i went 2 sizes down to kids. Then while another customer asked how long the location was open he responded quickly 43 years. I will visit again if we get the same grear service. read more

Carvel - CARVE DAILY SPECIAL - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Virginia Beach, Virginia

Been there for 30+years that I know of! Ice cream as good as ever - there is a reason why Carvel is in nearly every grocery store on the east coast. Go in for the fresh stuff! Can't go wrong with the soft ice cream. Idk why they never went to the oceanfront though, very strange. read more

I love Carvel. I go there all the time. On my most recent trip they did not have a Cookie Puss in the ready cake freezer. They told me they would need a couple of days. This is the first time this happened and I am worried there is new management making decisions that impact the readiness and availability of their go to desserts. read more

I am ASHAMED to admit that after 3+ years living nearby, I only just tried Carvel! SHAME, I tell you! Because, this place rocks. It may be in a crappy shopping center next to a crappy Radio Shack, but DANG! For some reason I was expecting only soft serve and ice cream cakes, but they have so many choices I didn't know where to begin! (Luckily, the kid behind the counter was nice and patient with me. We even commiserated about the overplaying of "I Kissed a Girl" on the radio and how annoying it is). ANYhow, this place gets a WOOHOO for the sheer yumminess of the ice cream and the amazing variety of choices - I could go everyday and not repeat myself! YAY Carvel! :) read more

Love their cakes. It's always been My favorite. I saw on their site that they have online ordering but you need 24 hrs notice for pick up. I called them and asked if they have a cake ready for me in a short amount of time. They said yes and I placed my order. At pick up they were fast and friendly. The only problem I have us that they spelled My daughter's name wrong. Her name is kalie and they put Katie. The girl said she thought it needed to be a t not l. My thing is you have my number call and verify. She did change the t to an l but after that it just looked sloppy. I didn't have time to wait on something else so I just went with it. As for the size...well it was really small to be $14. I may order again in the future but I will Prolly stress more on calling if they are unsure of spelling. read more

Worst place ever. Their google information. Website and store location all say they close at 10 on Saturdays. Got there at 9. The open sign was still on. But the door was locked. Someone even answered the phone when I called and they said they were closed. I wouldn't have even drove 18 mins out of my way had I known they were closed. Extremely unprofessional. read more

When we arrived yesterday evening there was a line. A guy and a girl were behind the counter. Once we were waiting in line and deciding on flavors, I said to my boyfriend about most of the hard ice cream being melted and gross looking. Upon further inspection, we seen a hair in not 1 but 3 containers of hard ice cream. My boyfriend told the girl about it who simply scooped the hair out and did not remove the ice cream from the case ! I really hope you didn't serve that ice cream to anyone else. Such a disgusting establishment especially the condition of the area behind the ice cream case ! Clean this place up and maybe utilize hair nets! read more

Ok so this place is the epitome of customer service!!! The most friendly and gracious women served us today at about 3pm. Super kind and pleasant!!! Exactly how someone working at such a happy place, like carvel, should be. They both had so much patience and consideration that kids sometimes need during these ice cream runs. Also they have beautiful cakes ready for purchase. I'd like to go back again soon Just to see them again. She also even helped me tape my ripped twenty lol read more

I just left Carvel with a gaggle of children in tow. We went there after driving all over creation trying to find a Ben & Jerry's that's apparently no longer open (on Great Neck Road). Carvel was the second choice. All the kids loved it. One got soft serve in a waffle cone and the other got scoop ice cream in a cup with sprinkles. It's hard to mess up ice cream as far as kids are concerned. But I'm a little more picky. Carvel was definitely not my favorite although I enjoyed my mint chocolate chip just fine. I don't like Dairy Queen. I don't even consider soft serve to be ice cream--it's some type of ice cream like substance. So I would never compare Carvel to DQ since the former serves actual ice cream. Ben & Jerry's and Coldstone are far superior as far as chains go. Or the local Yoder Dairy. I really miss Bergey's :(). Also this Carvel was really hot today. Not sure why. Maybe the AC's on the fritz, but you definitely want an ice cream shop to be nice and cool in the summer. read more
