Terrible experience. The employee asked if I wanted whipped cream and a cherry, giving me the option to choose. I politely declined. When it was time to pay, she told me that because I didn't get whipped cream and a cherry, I wasn't eligible for the Wednesday BOGO promotion. I visit Carvel frequently for the Wednesday BOGO deal, and I have never been told that whipped cream and cherries were required to receive the promotion. In fact, I've never gotten whipped cream or cherries on my cups before and have always received the BOGO discount without any issue. When I questioned the policy, the employee started arguing with me and responded, "Yeah, I asked you if you wanted it," which only proved my point--she presented it as an option, not as a requirement. She then pointed to a printed sign that said "No substitutions." I asked why she offered me the choice in the first place if declining the toppings meant I would lose the promotion. She never answered that question. To make matters even more confusing, I did choose whipped cream and a cherry on one of my sundaes. When she handed it to me, the cherry fell off, and I told her not to worry about replacing it because it wasn't a big deal. I then asked if she could simply put the whipped cream and cherry on the side for the second sundae so the promotion could still be honored, but she refused. The entire interaction was confusing, inconsistent, and unnecessarily argumentative. If whipped cream and cherries are truly required for the Wednesday BOGO promotion, customers should be informed before they're asked whether they want them--not after they're told they no longer qualify for the promotion. Asked for the buy one get one and because I did not want whipped cream they refuse to honor it. My family and I traveled an hour and 15 minutes to this location, the closest Carvel in our area SPECIFICALLY for the Hocus Pocus limited edition shakes that came with a spoon. The store is pretty small and looks a little old, but I was excited to go in and get the shake. There were not many individuals walking in. When I walked in with my Nana, there was one gentleman finishing up his order. There was only one young girl working, and there was another employee in the back room. When I requested two of the Hocus Pocus shakes and 2 Rum Raisin ice creams, since the girl was getting everything together herself, it took her about 20 minutes or so. While I was waiting for my second milkshake to be done, another woman walked in the store. She pointed to my milkshake and said that it was so cute and asked what it was. I was in the process of trying to slowly turn the cup around to show her the spoon and the cup STUCK TO THE COUNTER since it was sticky with ice cream and my milkshake FLOPPED ALL OVER THE COUNTER. The WHOLE COUNTER was stained purple. There were also no napkins in site. The employee just stared at the ice cream and I kept apologizing over and over again. The woman customer behind me asked the employee to make me a new milkshake, but she would not do it. I asked the employee for some napkins so that I could help clean up, which I did. My hands were stained purple from the dye. The girl said that because it would take so long to make the drink, she wouldn't be able to make it for me again, but said "Next time!" I wanted to say "I'm never gonna be back here again considering I live an hour and 15 minutes away" but it was fine. My Nana asked the girl if she could just top the milkshake with the whipped cream and sprinkles again and then we would be fine. The milkshake was NOT the consistency of what a milkshake should be. It was very runny/liquidy. I couldn't even use my spoon to scoop up the milkshake (with the spoon they provide with the limited edition shake). It also stained my shirt purple since it was pure liquid. Overall, the CONCEPT was cute and I was glad to keep the cup/spoon, but would never go through the trouble of going there again. read more

Here we go again. Another business that should unfortunately be shut down. This is the 3rd chance I gave Carvel to redeem themselves just for a decent ice cream cup. Not only did they run out of vanilla soft serve, and I had to wait for the machine to be refilled, but they dont even wait for the machine to get the stuff cold and make me a cup of Milky water. They proceed to serve me a liquid mess in a cup when I asked for vanilla soft serve. Completely unacceptable to serve this. I picked up the cup to pay for it and just from squeezing the cup to hold it, the runny liquid ice cream dribbles out the side of the cup. Disgusting. I proceeded to tell the sales girl I'm sorry I'm not paying for that runny mess that is not ice cream and walked out. I couldn't see myself paying money for liquid in a cup when I asked for Vanilla Ice cream. Carvel has permanently lost my business and everyone else I would tell to go there. It's so sad that these places are not only understaffed and don't have enough products but also appear dirty. I recommend nobody go there. read more

We went there for a Dasher Sunday and they said they don't customize them they don't know how to make them from scratch. That is the most horrible thing I've ever heard in my life you put ice cream in a cup and then you layer it with things I don't understand. Tom Carvel would be proud. You can't beat Carvel for soft serve ice cream. Nice place tucked away in a small strip mall. Nothing beats the old fashioned stand alone shops like the original one in Brooklyn. read more

It almost never do this, but I had such a bad experience at this Carvel that it almost ruined a big family birthday, so I'm giving this place 1 star. I called 2 days ahead and placed an order for 2 custom cakes, because I had a gift card I wanted to use up. I also asked if they accepted gift cards, mentioned it was an online gift card from the Carvel website, and was told 2 times that they did. However, when I went to pick up the cakes, the cashier wouldn't process my gift card, because she didn't know how to. She said that they didn't have a QR scanner, and I said that was fine. I explained that I had a 16-digit code and a pin for the gift card too, and asked if she could try manually entering it like a debit card. She said she didn't know how to do that either and refused to even try. I asked if there was someone she could call to walk her through it, and she repeatedly said no. I offered to go home, print out the gift card and bring it back for her, and she said no to that too. She was completely unhelpful and refused to offer any solutions or try anything besides tell me I should pay for it with a credit card, even though I was promised I could use a gift card. What a scam. Having also had to use a POS credit card machine for multiple jobs, I can attest that they are a little intimidating, and also not that hard to train to use. Oh yeah! Haven't been to a Carvel since I was a snot nosed kid back in Jersey and I thought I was in a time warp back in the 70's. The only thing missing was good old Tom Carvel himself. Nothing fancy about it and nothing special about it, just good old fashioned hard and soft ice cream. I got what would be called a Blizzard at DQ with vanilla and chocolate soft and oreos and cookie dough mixed in. My wife and I decided on using ice cream cake at our November 2013 wedding rather than the traditional bakery style cake. This was one of the best decisions we ever made. From our initial conversation with the owner at the Catasauqua Road Carvel, we were comfortable with our decision. On the wedding day we were greater with perfectly portioned slices of ice cream cake that we heard rave reviews about. In the end, our choice worked out well for us and the people at Carvel in Bethlehem really helped us make the day about what we liked. The ice cream was flavorful and fresh! read more

I wanted to order vanilla on vanilla. I was then told there would be a $2.00 charge to alter the standard chocolate on vanilla. I asked to speak to the manager. She advised that she was the owner. I simply asked her "why". Why is there a charge to get the same amount of cake, just switching the flavor to vanilla? I heard someone in the background saying "you don't have to explain anything to them". then the woman I was speaking with said, "apparently I do need to explain this to them". Then she said "call back if you want a cake". Then she hung up on me. I was flabbergasted. I can honestly say I will never order another Carvel brand cake again. I will not buy them at Giant, Weis, Wegman's....wherever they are sold. I am appalled by her lack of outstanding customer service. I read online about the FOCUS values of respect and dignity.
