This was a bus driver in San Marcos, Texas.
All I ask was how to get to University drive?
The bus driver would not speak to me in English.
So I asked one of the passengers if they could translate. Then the bus driver all angrily said I know English. Then she said in a ugly way to me can you lock your wheelchair. She told me Chimys which is a restaurant in downtown San Marcos. I was thinking there is no way I can take my Manuel wheelchair and wheel myself to Chimys to try to get to University drive.
Then she starting saying loudly 3 times ah ching gow. It is not spelled correctly. I know and all Hispanics that know Spanish, that it is a curse word. So she is going off in 1 to 3 seconds because someone simply ask her question. Starts cussing on the bus. She said the curse word 3 times. I said you don't have to curse. It also states on 3 different websites. That it is a Spanish slang curse word. So when she saw me wheeling into the office. The bus driver ran into to talk to the supervisor before I could. The bus driver only said to me in English all angrily I know. When I asked for someone to translate. The women knows English but refuses to speak to me in English. She only wanted to speak Spanish,mind you were still in America where the language is English. That is what we are taught in schools here. When I go into the building to talk to the supervisor. That bus driver sees me and runs in there to talk to the supervisor first before I can. The supervisor a white woman with Grey or blond hair. I was trying to explain to her what happened. She would not listen. She was cutting me off when I tried to tell her. I told her in Spanish because I learned Spanish listening to my friends in school and I picked it up. Tex Mex. Then the Supervisor got all angry at a woman in a wheelchair, me, when I spoke to her in Spanish. Told me I was being rude. So I filed a complaint and a man whose Indian called me and said he knows French, Spanish and English and that is not a curse word. Every Texas Hispanic who knows Spanish has told me yes, that is a curse word. I told the supervisor quit being mean to ya'll's' customers.
Was able to wheelchair my self back home in a manual wheelchair. It took 2 hours.
The Indian supervisor was very happy to believe the lies of that bus driver. Continue to treat handicapped people as if there are no laws protecting them from being discriminated on here in the U.S.. I think the bus driver figured it out. The more ugly she is to the passengers. The less people she has to ride on her bus, and Carts still has to pay her, her check. This Indian man was like she is staying on your route. I said I don't have the privilege of walking. She went off in 3 seconds. I have no way to defend myself. For my safety I will never ride Carts buses again. The Indian supervisor was like okay. Carts in San Marcos should be happy to know a handicapped women who can't walk has to manually wheel herself around in a wheelchair all over San Marcos. There was a young couple waiting in the Greyhound area. They told me I was not being rude to that supervisor. I have talked to other people they have told me that particular bus driver is very rude. Other passengers that told me she is very blunt. Then why on God's green earth is she working around people. Especially those who are handicapped and disabled for life. The main man a Indian supervisor has obviously no understanding of laws in the U.S. protecting the disabled and handicapped. How much more does Carts in San Marcos want to continue to be mean to people in wheelchairs . read more
