I Went there this morning. Asked for large coffee. The largest cup they have is small. It's $5 a pop for drip coffee which I don't mind it if service and quality is there. I was served just warm coffee it tased great but not hot at all. I complained so the girls offered to brew new pot. I waited for the new batch. I got a nice hot coffee but the flavor is not remotely close to the warm one I tasted or liked the first time. I asked them if it was drip or americano because it was very weak coffee. It had no flavor. Pretty much dark water. Very disappointed and for sure I can tell staff didn't want to be there. If you charge $5 per cup you have to back it up with service and happy staff. Just copy Starbucks welcoming and accommodating service and staff. Not hard. read more

The golden milk latte and the CCL were both perfectly made, well-balanced, refreshing beverages in a hot summer day. I was going to opt for a chai, however, I was concerned about the spice level. The barista let me try a taste before I made my decision, and I thought that was very helpful. She took our time with us and never made us felt rushed. Wow... what a terrible experience at Cartel this morning. I come here often but today was just BAD. For a business that charges what Cartel charges, I expect a premium product. When I walked in there were four people in front of me in line. Most of the seats in the shop were full. The barista was working incredibly hard just to keep up. The shop was not staffed anywhere near appropriately. After waiting about five minutes, without any orders being taken from the people in front of me, I realized the barista was still struggling to fulfill orders from folks previously waiting. I continued to wait in line. 25 minutes later my CCL was in my hands ($8 w/ tip) and the cup was, at best, two-thirds full. This was probably my final straw at Cartel. I can live with premium pricing for premium product but today I was ripped off. read more

Guess customer service is not a 'thing' anymore. Maybe the barista was busy but a little friendliness goes a long way. I ordered a latte with almond milk and was rudely told 'we don't have almond milk' but was not given any other suggestions. I asked for cinnamon on my drink. A lovely little coffee show with a curated menu. A unique collection of handcrafted drinks. This is a great place to hangout and get some work done or meet up with a friend. I was totally unsure what to order & the very nice & patient gentleman working today (10/05/22 around 2PM) I'm so sorry I didn't ask his name!! But he was super nice & made a recommendation for me of a nitro cold brew for lots of caffeine! Before I could even ask, he asked if I could antes cream & the answer 100% was yes! He was able to whip it up in a jiffy & I'm so grateful for him & the delicious caffeine I need to help me power through the rest of the day. Oh, I love their patio! If you are here early, the sun is shining on this part of the space, so that's a plus. I also love that the coffee flavor is strong and my mocha tasted great! However, expect to pay more for coffee here, more than many other good places on this side of the Phoenix Mountain preserve. I did also like the fact that their outside patio isn't on a busy road! Milk alternatives are limited to oat and almond and no nonfat milk. But the coffee flavor is very good! read more

The prices here are a little high for the quality of coffee. I had a cappuccino and it was fairly smooth but not delightfully smooth. It did have good flavor. There is a large parking area and seating both outside and inside. There are not many seats inside as the store is quite small. Not a bad place to go if you are in the area and want a coffee. They seem to have a good selection of coffee beans for purchase. We got here just after 10 o'clock and we were lucky to order right before a rush of people arrived. read more

Drove 35 minutes to this franchise for the first time and won't be back. Walked up to the register and waited a couple seconds for the baristas to finish their conversation and then one of them just said hello very quietly. She didn't ask what I would like so I just ordered and when I got my drink there was no lid which was very confusing. They didn't tell me that the lids and straws were off to the side so I had to look around the coffee shop myself and figure that out. Additionally neither of them once told me thank you have a nice day. They just continued their loud conversation and laughed to each other as I walked out of the coffee shop. The vanilla iced latte I got tasted nothing like a vanilla or oat milk, tasted more like straight up watered down coffee with intense brown sugar flavoring. read more

The barista was very rude, unfriendly, and dismissive. When I ordered my coffee, she grabbed a cold, likely dead and bitter shot, that had already been sitting there (didn't pull a new one). Poured the milk and syrup and ice in, and shoved it on the table for me, essentially rolling her eyes the entire time. I paid $7.50 for a coffee that didn't have fresh shots and bad service. Their prices are really pushing it and it's obnoxious. I got the espresso tonic and a regular latte and it was more than $14. My husband said the tonic was just a shot with sizzle, and the latte had nothing extra or alternative milks added to it, so why I am paying that much, who knows. The cashier who helped me wasn't even friendly or welcoming so I left in a salty mood. The environment outside is cool, though. I got a simple cappuccino... it was executed perfectly in a little cup and I enjoyed it immensely. The place is small, clean, and service was friendly, fast and accurate. I'm an old-school Coffee Cartel customer from when the shop in downtown Phoenix had a sign that read, "No, we don't make cappuccino to go". That's not the case any more, but they still make excellent cups of coffee. Pro tip: get the cappuccino in the small paper cup instead of the big one with the lid. It's the same amount, but the drink fills the little cup and you feel like Tom Hanks in "Big" eating the baby corn :) read more

I have been to the Cartel location downtown and enjoyed it. They were not allowing indoor seating when I was there though. This one is in an upscale shopping center at the intersection of Tatum and Shea in Paradise Valley. The interior is very nice with both work tables and lounge chairs, sofa and outdoor seating. I had a drip coffee, potato, cheese, egg burrito and choc chip cookie which were all tasty. NOTE: THE FRESH DRIP COFFEE WAS PHENOMENAL. I RANK IT IN MY TOP 10 BEST IN THE US SOUTHWEST. Barista Tylor and Charlotte, Abbey do an outstanding job, top ten in metro Phoenix in my book for service, demeanor and professionalism. Highly recommended. read more

I would definitely say this is probably some of the better coffee you can get in the immediate area. I visited the Tempe location once and was a fan of the cold brew, but no locations were convenient for a stop since then. This time, I had a small americano and was pleased with the taste. I rarely drink coffee anymore but if I need a boost, this might be my go-to spot. My girlfriends dad also tried a drip coffee and a the sweet scone of the day (cherry, goat cheese, white chocolate, maple glaze) and thought it was delicious. The drip coffee was okay. It's not a huge space but there are a few seating options if you want to stay and enjoy your beverage. I like the vibe and it matches other cartel locations. The barista was friendly and patient as we decided what to try. I will definitely return to check out their tea options too. Worth a stop! read more

The coffee, when it's actually hot, it's actually really good. We ordered two pour over hot coffee. We waited for at least 25min and then it's finally done. When they called our name, the coffee was already lukewarm. It's disappointing that you get lukewarm coffee when you ordered hot coffee. Not sure why it takes so long to make pour over coffee. So now one of us have hot coffee, the other has lukewarm coffee. For the coffee I would probably buy to make at home since it's actually really good when made well. Lukewarm coffee is just disappointing. read more

I don't know how this place has such positive reviews. My husband and I take coffee very seriously. At home we use our espresso machine and so we expect a certain level of authentic- well-made coffee. This isn't it. We ordered two americanos. I usually only put a little bit of sugar in mine, but nothing can cover the sour burnt taste of this coffee. There was also literally no selection of food here. Don't go here if you actually know what good coffee is. I still can't get the sour taste out of my mouth. read more

I really hate leaving a one-star review but that's the only star I can give. I really feel like I wasted money stopping in here for a mid day cold brew. I usually go to other coffee places in the area but decided to try Cartel on Tatum. When I parked out front I noticed there wasn't a person in sight- not outside, not inside. Thought this was unusual considering all the other coffee houses I visit usually have a crowd of students or people working remotely, but no one at Cartel. I knew this wasn't a good sign but I thought why not? I kept it simple and went with a small cold brew with sugar free vanilla since they didn't have any special fall/seasonal flavors to offer besides a mocha made with ghost pepper or something. Have you ever had a coffee that is a good brew but the flavor they use has a weird tangy, sour after taste? Or how about the opposite, a brew that wasn't good and tasted old but the sweetener hid it well it was still drinkable? Well my coffee was a mix of that. Bad coffee bad sweetener. Don't recommend going here after a simple coffee was non-drinkable I actually tossed the whole thing out. read more
