Diamond at this restaurant last night. Was looking forward to it as I hadn't been there in over 30 years. Did the right thing I made a reservation and was promptly seated. And then the weight began for our server who finally arrived and took our drink order. One thing that really disappointed me is that they have absolutely no prices listed on their menu. I expect this from a five star location, but not the Carsonville hotel. A table of five adults with two kids were seated shortly after we were taken care of. They had the same server as we did. We had placed our food order as we were going to share a steak tenderloin salad, and their buffalo chicken nachos. Nachos were lukewarm at best as well as the tenderloin on my salad. Once our server finally came back by we had to send the nachos back to be reheated and they really weren't all that great. Had to literally track down our server just to get a refill of a soda. Lousy service abs the food was subpar at best Won't be back. To add insult to injury the large party that was seated shortly after we were ordered their big jumbo wings and their orders were up in minutes while we were still waiting for ours. read more

"Off the beaten path" is a serious understatement when referring to the Carsonville Hotel, but that's part of the experience. We made a Sunday road trip/pilgrimage and had an enjoyable time. Decent beer list with all the usual domestics and a few crafts. Service was friendly, attentive, and had plenty of character. The menu has basic bar favorites. We split an order of cheese fries, which were decent but not spectacular. Back in the day, Carsonville's hand-cut fries were renowned but our server admitted they were frozen these days--and we appreciated the honesty! On our visit, outdoor seating was open along with an open air bar. There's a great-looking front bar that was closed during our visit but looked great--hope I have a chance to check it out in cooler months. All in all, this is a fun destination with basic food and drinks...but worth the trip for atmosphere alone! read more

Food was tasty ... great vibe with live music ... priced a reasonably, even though there's no prices on the menu. Service is a little slow, but friendly. Cocktail sauce was 90% ketchup Had to ask for ranch with my old bay fries (listed with on the menu) Steak bites were tasty, just a little past medium. They needed something as they were a tad dry read more

Visited on the advice of a friend (and I'll have to make sure to thank them)! Venue is small - call ahead for a table on a busy weekend. The waitress was super friendly (Mary) and answered many questions about the menu and the restaurant. We ordered delicious shrimp cocktail (very plentiful) and hot roast beef sandwiches which was the evenings special. The sandwiches were portioned so generously that we had the leftovers the next night over a baked potato and I had lunch on Monday. Took two deserts to go after hearing the tables around us rave about them - apple butter cheesecake and peanut butter pie. Both were fantastic and affordably priced. I can't wait to visit in the spring when the open the grassy area and host live music! Thank you for a fantastic evening out and special thanks to Mary, our server! read more

We had dinner at the outdoor area last evening. It was took well over an hour to get our ordered food that is just the appetizer and only because we asked about the delay. Unfortunately most of the diners at our table found the food to be poorly prepared. Grilled chicken was very dry, tasteless and cold. Salad was lack luster too. No prices on the menu either. Atmosphere outside was nice with a great entertainment. read more

Great place to end up before, during, or after a cycle ride! Everyone should visit Carsonville Hotel at least once!

Nice place to ride a bike to and the service was great! However, the clams were tough and chewy. My hamburger was supposed to be medium but was well done and dry. It had a few mushrooms and cheese with no flavor. Most restaurants serve fresh cut fries, but these are frozen cardboard ones. Need to keep up with competition. My husband wings also had very little sauce. read more

The pork BBQ nachos were so good! The portion is huge and enough to share with the table. The service is always great. I would definitely recommend! read more

We haven't been here in a very, very long time...read some reviews and wasn't sure what to expect... The service was excellent, the appetizer - steamed shrimp was made just right and our sandwiches were tasty! So take the not so great reviews with "a grain of salt"...when a business is busy that means they're doing something right, be patient with your servers. read more

When my wife and I took a trip to Ireland a few years ago, we hit a few pubs off the beaten path to get a taste for how the locals really lived. For anyone from Ireland visiting here, I'd imagine they'd get the same from the Carsonville Hotel. From the locals, to the atmosphere, to the music, to the food, the Hotel would give them an authentic look at a significant segment of America. The wife and I took a spontaneous trip in the direction of the hotel to do some leaf-peeping, and stopped in for a bite on our way home. It was a bit chilly in the bar area, but it got warmer as the place filled up more. We were attended to in good time. Food didn't come out as quickly as we've experienced at some other places, but my burger was excellent, as was my wife's chicken cheesesteak, and the fries were wonderful, so I'll attribute the short wait to the quality of prep. While country music isn't my favorite genre, I found I didn't really mind what they were playing, so it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the place - and they did toss in something from another genre on occasion for good measure. If you go here, you'd better have some idea of where it is or a GPS to guide you, because there is nothing that advertises it on the way (or at least not that we saw), and it's not on a major road. But it's a beautiful drive during the autumn season, and I'd recommend a visit any time of the year. read more

Yes, the Carsonville Hotel is under new ownership. If you are accoustomed to the great food and nostalgic atmosphere, you will now be very disappointed. I was a regular at the Carsonville Hotel for many years. Their food was great, although the service got pretty slow in recent years. Since the new owners took control, I have not been there for a while, since I heard that the quality of food had gone downhill. This weekend, we decided to give it a try. We went there with a group of six people. The nostalgic atmosphere is gone. The old pistols from the 1800's hanging on the wall are gone. All of the great looking relics are gone. All of the old college flags are gone. They have been replaced with bright neon signs that make your eyes bleed. If you ever had one of the old Carsonville cheesburgers, you know how great they were. They are now pretty lousy. They just do not have the great taste that they formerly had. I don't know if they are using frozen patties now, or what. But you will definitely be disappointed if you are used to the burgers under the former owners. We also had the fries. They are still a large portion, but oh my, they are terrible. I am used to them being crispy and tasty. They are now heavy and greasy tasting. We order 2 portions of them and hardly ate any of them due to the awful greasy taste. We also ordered 2 dozen of their wings. Under the old owners, the wings were great tasting with awsome sauses. The new owners wings were really bad. They were dry and tough. The sauce was not enjoyable at all. In summary, if you are used to the high quality of food that the previous owners offered, you will now be very disappointed with the new menu. Although I was a regular there, for the past 20 years, I won't be back. I spent well over $100 and felt really ripped off. In the future, I'd rather go to McDonalds or Burger King to get a cheaper sub-standard food. read more

This place has a wonderful outdoor patio area...nothing fancy just a cool country vibe. Been there many times, but now it's different. New owners took over a couple of years ago. No more hand cut French fries...frozen now. Bartender/server Denny no longer works there. Very disappointed since he worked there for many years and was a fun guy. It's just not the same. read more

A group of us visited the Carsonville Hotel to try their wings. To my surprise, they serve the entire wing! I ordered 6 wings with hot sauce. The waitress said the hot was really hot, and she was right. I think these were the hottest "hot" wings I've had. It was my understanding that they served fresh cut fries. We were let down when regular fries came out. The fries needed salted too. That was really the only letdown in my opinion. I'd like to go back and try more from their menu (steaks and burgers). read more

Carsonville Hotel - Full wings is what you get. 6 wings for $8.99 on Thursday wing night. The hot are really hot. - Hotels Near Me - Halifax, Pennsylvania

First, I never been anywhere where a menu has no prices. That in itself is the dumbest thing I ever seen. Then I order wings. Again, they serve full wings, mostly likely bc they get them cheaper that was or they are too lazy to cut them up. Well, either way it doesn't matter, the wings were horrible. Mild sauce is a joke. It's just hot sauce. Then got a mushroom burger. It was just ok. It wasn't bad but it was bland. I will try again at some point bc I always give a place 2 tries. But for now, just 2 stars read more

First time eating here after 40 years in the Harrisburg area. Buffalo nachos were outstanding! The rest of the group enjoyed their food as well. Our waitress (Heather) did a remarkable job. The place was packed so drink orders were slow with one bartender. We sat in the larger room with a band playing making it difficult to have a conversation. read more

The Carsonville Hotel is now under new ownership. They've put in countless hours of effort and investment modernizing certain aspects of the business while still keeping that classic rustic tavern feel. The new owners clearly care about the future of the business. They've kept the majority of the classics from the traditional menu while adding a few new items. Have been in the hotel before and after their work and their new touch is a pleasant update while keeping that well known Carsonville Hotel flavors to what you order! Definitely give this place a shot on the way by. Soon the deck will be open and the place will be hopping again! read more

Have been a customer for years. It recently came under new management and appeared to have made many changes so for our annual bike club gathering we (about 18 of us) we showed up at about 630 PM. We had made a reservation 2 months in advance and the guy that made the reservation called a couple weeks in advance to confirm the reservation for us with several tables in the outside seating area and all was good. When we got there we had to be seated indoors as there was no tables available. They were busy so I will give them a pass on the food delivery being slow but going on two hours later some had food, most didnt. What was brought out was cold or the wrong order. When the new female owner came through and overheard some complaints she verbally attacked several of us and said they were busy and we would just have to get over it. The. She started an argument with the guy that made the reservations about how she didnt get the reservation until last week, which was bull as it was done 2 months prior and confirmed a couple weeks before. She literally spent about 15 minutes yelling at us, the customers. One of our guys decided he would by $75 in drinks for everyone and when getting the drinks, mentioned the incident to the guy tending bar, which happened for be the male owner, who proceeded to verbally attack him. We have used Carsonville for well over a decade but will be taking our business elsewhere from here forward. I can only hope that they learn that we pay your bills with our orders. You rely on us not the other way around. Maybe the only way they will get it is to lose their business and let the restaurant go to someone who realizes you can't have the "millennial attitude" and run a successful business. We also tried to post a review on their Facebook page and found they are cherry picking reviews and when you try to PM the owners, they don't respond. Big surprise, huh? Oh and I just read the "owners" reply. She continues with the same attitude she used when starting arguments with half of our group called one of them a liar. She now tells she video of us throwing food and harrassing her wait staff. I have posted back teller her to show it then. Yes, PLEASE SHOW ME our people throwing food at your servers. PLEASE! But you wont because we didn't. Did we keep asking your people where our food was after two hours? Yep. Did we complain when we didn't get food, got cold food or the wrong orders? Yup. Were many of our group ready to get up and walk out without paying for what we ordered? Yep. But we did keep telling the blonde waitress Brandy, or Dennis, that we knew it wasn't their fault. Yep, we did. HOWEVER, thank you for once again showing your attitude and that the ability to run a restaurant is beyond you and the guy you supposedly "run" it with. Also the reservation was made with Dennis. The reason? You said you were too busy to take the reservation so he wrote it in the book at the bar. Remember when you called Bill, the one that made the reservations, a liar and he told you that this would wind up on review sites? You said you didnt care what the hell he posted. So, to that end, I'll start with Trip Advisor, Yelp, etc. and work my way down. I'll make sure you get all the credit. You may not miss our business, and we damn well will not miss getting treated like we owe you something when you cant do your job, but you will remember this interaction with customers that have been going there for over a decade. Oh and don't forget to post the video. I cant wait!!!! read more

I've been going here for over 45 years, I believe last night was the LAST! We reserved four tables for my grandsons baptism. Everything started ok but went down hill fast. we all ordered our food one table after another. The food took a good bit of time to come out (it was busy) but ok I can deal with that. It ended with two tables getting their food and eating most of it before the third table got theirs. The forth table didn't get their food for an hour and twenty minutes after they ordered ( we timed it). People in our party had to go because it was getting late, so they didn't get to the cake cutting. The food was lackluster, it was ok At best. I talked to the owner after I paid my bill, because I wasn't looking for a refund or anything like that. She said sorry, the food came out of the kitchen as it was ordered, even after we pointed out that, that was incorrect she just kept saying it??? She didn't seem to care or see a problem with what happened. SAD!!! If she would have said something about being understaffed or short on kitchen people I could accept it. She did not say anything like that, they seemed to have plenty of people working?? I don't know what happened but after talking to some other people around us, they said this has been happening more and more, and the owner is at best indifferent to the situation. Well it was a good 45 plus year run, sad to see it end like this. read more

5/24/14 I am torn between giving them a negative star and 5...hehehehehe I stumbled upon the hotel (okay, not really a hotel just in case you are thinking you will be able to crash here) because I was lost and trying to find a camp site on Peter's Mountain. I had TOTALLY forgotten only AT&T works on the mountain. The nice lady at Carsonville Hotel let me use her cell so I could call for a search party. She seemed so dang sweet I couldn't wait to come back and share the experience with my fella. So I did.... Apparently diner from the kitchen ends at precisely 5:00 she made a point to bark the information at us :( I was starved but not hungry to waste my carb count on cheap pizza and wings being offered on the deck. So after a quick beer and hard lemonade we made our way down 83 and stumbled upon Calhane's. **blows raspberries** read more

The best roast beef sandwich and fries I ever had. The drinks were also great. Great atmosphere loved it. We love this place.

Have been wanting to stop here for years and finally did today. Was disappointed in the carsonville cheeseburger. Asked for it to be cooked medium and it came out almost well done. I said something to the young lady waiting on me and she just shrugged it off and didn't do anything about it. Atmosphere was pretty cool and the staff was friendly, I just wish someone would have apologized. I don't think that even if the burger would have been cooked medium it would have been up to my standards as it seemed to be a frozen patty. read more

Best wing joint on the planet! I swear they sprinkle crack on them or something because they're addictive! The deck is open during warm weather and there's volleyball, horse shoes, and badminton. Absolutely love this place!!! My dad used to take my brother & I here all the time back 50 years ago. I kind of forgot about it over the years until 2yrs ago when my wife & I were out on our motorcycles just riding around. She said she was getting a little hungry so I decided to see if it was still there. To my surprise, it was. It was like taking a step back in time. The portions are still as big as I remembered & just as delicious!! We have been back several times since & always enjoy the atmosphere & food. Went yesterday for the 1st time since all the COVID restrictions have been in place & even with the social distancing & 25% capacity limits, they reinvented themselves again. This place continues to thrive despite being out in the middle of nowhere. They are also a biker friendly establishment. The different people intermingle with no problems at all & all have fun together. If you want to go for a little ride or drive, I can't recommend this place more read more

I ordered the $8.50 loaded Philly cheesesteak. It was bland. My wife ordered the filet and it wasn't great either. Just home from this establishment. What a horribly disappointing experience. Three nearby tables were served appetizers and dinner before we received our appetizers. When I complained to the manager, I was told our server did not put an order in for appetizers. We then re-ordered appetizers and I explicitly told them I did not want appetizers and entrees at the same time. Low and behold, appetizers showed up 1 hr 15 min after we ordered and entrees showed up 2 minutes later. Also, did not receive side dishes until 10 minutes after entrees showed up. I was told this was a great place to go. Food was so/so. Never, ever again. read more
