What a lovely place this was! My boyfriend and I started here on the Valentina Suite when we visited Harrisburg. The houses are so beautiful and well maintained! And the staff were all so friendly and attentive! Our room was so gorgeous and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was absolutely delicious. Super cute and well run. Easily accommodates late arrival (no humans involved-just use the code and grab your key). Your correspondent's schedule did not allow him to sample the breakfast; will try to remedy that going forward. There will be stairs and your luggage may have no other way to get to your room. Friendly proprietor and nice bathroom products. Rooms are old school and tidy. Might upgrade to a riverfront view next time around. read more

A quaint Bed & Breakfast in the capital of PA that's being run by Count Dracula. The Manor on Front is a quaint bed and breakfast located across from the Susquehanna River. The property is gorgeous. Our room as well as the entire hotel are beautifully decorated. Here's my issue: When you stay at any Bed & Breakfast, you're expecting a different experience from a hotel stay. The Bed & Breakfast proprietors greet you when you arrive. They open their home to you and try to give you a quality experience. They'll bake homemade muffins, ask you how you want your eggs in the morning, their hospitality is what makes the Bed & Breakfast experience a memorable one. I understand we're living in difficult times. The Manor On Front made no attempt to be hospitable during our stay. The B&B texted us the door code and said the room key is at the lobby. Walking inside there was NO ONE there. No greeting, no fresh baked goods, nothing. I asked for coffee and was told via text there is a Keurig I can use on the 2nd floor?? I hate coffee from a Keurig! Breakfast was left in the refrigerator for us in a plastic bag. It's everything my wife doesn't eat: A muffin from Costco Sugary Orange Juice Fruit Cup Sugary Yogurt A bag of animal crackers Make a damn frittata! Ask me what we'd like other than what's offered. Leave out some bread near a toaster with some butter and jam? My suggestion would be to have all local items, offer them to the guests. I keep harping on the baked goods but it would have been nice to see homemade cookies on our doorknob when we came back to the room. I'm a little pissy because I spent extra money for the B&B experience and received hospitality from any hotel chain. Monday morning when we checked out, the house was eerily empty. I kept my crucifix out as we walked to the car.. The Manor On Front is a beautiful Bed & Breakfast in a nice location overlooking the Susquehanna River. If you're looking for the Bed & Breakfast experience, this is not the place and it was an expensive lesson to learn. read more

Beautiful grounds and very nice location. I chose this over a downtown hotel for the breakfast, but I was disappointed in how they structured the breakfast schedule. You sign in for one of three times (830, 845, or 930). You're out of luck if there are no spots left for the time you want. I had to miss the breakfast since 830 was way too late - I've never stayed at a B&B where you couldn't get an earlier breakfast time. I can't comment on the quality of the food, but the menu was either French toast, scrambled eggs, or spinach frittata with beverages and potatoes. I'd suggest a security upgrade for the rooms. As a woman traveling solo, I was not comfortable with a simple handle key lock on the door - no chain, no deadbolt. It's an old house so there are stairs - and no offer to help with my luggage. All this for more than a downtown hotel - just was not worth the price either. read more

Great time and welcoming staff. Stayed two nights this weekend. We were a little concerned that it was contactless check-in but Bob (one of the owners/management team) met us at the door and gave us a quick tour. While sitting in the library waiting to go to breakfast the next morning he stopped and sat to chat with us for a bit. It quickly felt like chatting with a new friend. Our room was very clean and comfortable with a coffee station very conveniently placed right down the hall. The breakfast options were varied and both I had (French toast and a spinach frittata) were tasty. It was a great weekend and I would recommend a stay there to anyone. read more

We stayed a night after a concert in Allentown. Everything about our stay was superb: from arranging a late arrival with Carol (Innkeeper), to changing the late arrival plan and stopping to pickup keys, meeting and having wonderful conversation with Mike (Proprietor) and then a killer quiche at breakfast the next morning with Monica (she is from Sweden and a gem). The property is absolutely stunning and extremely convenient from I-81 and HIA/MDT airport. We stayed in the Hull suite and is was not only very roomy, but very comfortable. Everything we needed was there and it was by far the best B&B we have stayed in, in terms of provisions and comforts. There are a number of common areas and we felt welcomed and at ease anywhere that we were in the home. There are books galore, excellent furniture and lots of outdoor seating. I was happy to finally get to stay in a place I have driven by and admired for years. That it was so comfortable, so meticulously well done and ultimately welcoming were the cherries on top. Given the chance to stay again, we absolutely would. read more

Home was built in 1920's and has many of the original features like tile, wood floors, wood paneling and stone work! We've had previous wonderful stays there but management has changed. This time stayed in the new annex in the Valentina Suite because it's listed as hypoallergenic - and it is, clean and safe. But the door to the room was hung wrong, and there's no soundproofing, so every time any door in the Annex closed, the whole wall shook, and all sounds on the floor enter the room. It was impossible to sleep. There's also no closet in the room, just a small coatrack, extremely inconvenient during the winter with bulky wet items...which are wet because there's no covering over the outside entry door where you have to use a keypad and wrangle luggage. The formerly stellar breakfast service has also seriously declined. Maybe it would still be okay if you stayed in the main Ledgestone house, because it's a great location and the houses are beautiful....but we'll never know because our complaints about the door and noise to management were met with "Nothing we can do," even though we are loyal, repeat customers. But NEVER stay in that annex, though. Lovely in it's appearance but really uncomfortable. read more

This was my second visit here with my young daughter and the experience was as great this time as it was last time. The first time, I accidentally booked before realizing they only accommodate children over 12. I called Mike, one of the owners, when I realized and he agreed to let us stay anyway because my three year old was really well behaved. He put us in a room away from other guests just to be safe and the whole experience was flawless. Because our kiddo is such a great traveler, they invited us back for future visits and it is now our choice for accommodations when visiting family in the area. We absolutely love Mike, Carol the innkeeper, and Monica the cook. Everyone is so friendly and the house is absolutely beautiful. My now four year old feels like such a big girl when we get to stay here and talks about the Manor on Front as though it's our home away from home. Definitely stay here if you get the chance. We loved the old English vibe & the beautiful rooms to hangout in. It felt like stepping into a downtown London country home. The only drawback was that we were not given a hot "made to order" breakfast like I was expecting. The estate employee informed us that due to COVID they could only provide a bagged breakfast in the upstairs refrigerator. We were very disappointed because we were not told this until AFTER booking our NONREFUNDABLE stay. However, Ana was very kind & apologetic. The Manor on Front did not disappoint from the minute we arrived through departure. On our arrival day, we received a personal text with directions and the entrance's security code. Once inside, we easily located our room key and room. The property is picturesque, groomed, and well kept. The interior is the same. Each room is tastefully decorated with no small detail missed (including no noise, squeaky clean, and multiple common areas). Our room was inviting and comfortable. We were given the opportunity to select our breakfast time and breakfast entrees. Arriving for breakfast, we found the dinning room table already set with sparkling crystal and a colorful fruit cup. The new owners are present and we had the pleasure of meeting them (husband and wife) and hearing their story. The service, cleanliness, ease of checking in, and stay met all expectations. Mike is a very nice Gentleman that told us to eat at the Glass Lounge. The house is amazing and very clean. The views from the front are amazing to watch the sun go down on the river. Mike and Sally have done such a good job honoring the integrity of the history of families and the architecture of The Manor on Front. These accommodations are quite the find in this area. Open the door to each room to their lovely furnishings and unique character. Walk through the halls with many areas to mingle with others or to sit in a small charming setting and read. There is a lovely community room which has an expansive,open view of the amazing grounds and the river, where you can enjoy walks, biking or running, and simply sit and enjoy some stunning sunsets. Easy access to history, major highways, entertainment, and the airport - all within a reasonable distance. The community room was also the setting this particular evening for a wine tasting with Carrie - which was great fun and informative. One of many options to use such a room. The pictures online does not do the building justice - beautiful brick structure inside and out with excellent views of the Susquehanna River. We stayed in the Richey room which also had a great view of the river. Mike was very attentive, I would have given the place 5 stars if they had coffee/tea available outside of breakfast hours. We booked a room here for my gfs visiting relatives. The house is wonderfully appointed with convenient safe parking. It has a great view of the river right across the street. They serve a lovely breakfast fair each day that our guests raved about. The prices are on par with the sort of boutique hotel experience they offer. As if all that was not great enough the proprietors are super hospitable friendly and helpful trying their best to accommodate whatever the guests needs are. If you find yourself visiting the Harrisburg area or need a place to host friends/ family I highly recommend choosing this as your accommodations. They also have a handicap accessible room for those requiring those services! read more

This was my first visit to a bed & breakfast. I have to say I have been missing out if the Manor on Front is the par (something tells me the Manor, is well above par). The decor is elegant and the beds are so much more comfortable than any hotel I've ever stayed. I stayed in the Richey suite B and recommend the room. Our favorite room to sit and relax was the library. A great place to sit and enjoy good conversation. The building itself is amazing from the slate tile roof to the ground is beautiful We got to sit and have a 3 course breakfast this morning and it was the perfect ending to my stay. We stayed at the Manor this past weekend, and had a wonderful time. Mike and Sally are very accommodating and friendly, and the Manor is charming. It was a pleasure to arrive at the breakfast table in the beautiful dinning room overlooking the Susquehanna River -- beyond elegant! We had a fantastic walk along the River running/walking path and only 2 1/2 miles later found ourselves on the state capital steps! We will definitely stay here again if in Harrisburg! I almost forgot to mention -- the sunsets over the river are amazing! And there's a community fridge if you want to bring other goodies, and a lovely patio in the back of the house to sit and enjoy a picnic! read more

If you are looking for a romantic weekend getaway in the Harrisburg/ Hershey area, this is a lovely place to visit. The mansion is positioned across the street from a lakeside walking path. This is great for a morning or evening stroll. The breakfast is delicious and the owners are warm and welcoming. Our room was very clean and comfortable (including complimentary sparkling water and pleasantly fragrant soaps, shampoo, etc). They even have smart TVs and Netflix in every room! We stayed in the charming main mansion. If you visit, I encourage you to look around at all of the beautiful art for sale. We stayed for a quick night after a long drive from Columbus heading home to Philly. We arranged for a late, after hours check in and this was easily accommodated. The instructions were clear and we had no trouble finding our room. A quick walk up the steps to our suite and we were very pleasantly surprised at how beautiful everything was (we stayed in the Purcell Suite). Although this is an old, historic building, the inside is completely modern with amenities you'd expect (and more) from any usual hotel. The bed was soft, sheets were clean and comfortable, and the room just felt pristine. Even small details down to the quality of the shower soap were noticed. The breakfast the next morning was absolutely delicious and better than anything you will get from a hotel. Check out was equally as easy as checking in. Everything about this place kept surprising us. We would definitely come back for another stay, we can't find a single thing wrong with this establishment. read more

My wife and I visit B&B's at least 2-3 times a year. We've been staying at B&B's for the last 7 plus years. Therefore, there are certain expectations I have. One of the MAJOR joys I have for staying at B&B's is the conducive atmosphere for reading. Complimentary coffee and tea is a vital necessity. This is the FIRST B&B I have ever stayed at where I had to travel outside of the place in order to obtain coffee and tea. This defeats the purpose of staying at a B&B. Some B&B's offer complimentary pastries (thinking about the B&B my wife and I got married at in New Windsor Maryland along with a groovy B&B in Lookout Mountain Tennessee). These are the memories and experiences that keeps one coming back to certain B&B's. Let's just say that this B&B is not conducive for one wishing to lounge in a soft chair and read their favorite book. The only thing they offer besides breakfast is cold water in a fridge. Also, I would strongly recommend that the management be up front about breakfast times. Don't ask patrons what time they desire breakfast and upon recommendation (which was 7:30am) tell them through body language and tone that you cannot fulfill the request. This is disingenuous. Just simply state upfront the breakfast times for patrons and then they can decide accordingly. That is all. Otherwise, with at least some coffee and tea, this could be a good place to stay. Peace.
