I stayed at Pheasant Field for one night last week, and it ended up being exactly what I needed. It had been a full-on week, and I was looking for somewhere quiet to reset for a night. From the moment I arrived (a bit later in the evening), Kyle met me at the car and made everything feel easy and relaxed straight away. It's a family-run place, and that comes through in a really genuine way. In the morning, Kyle's parents, Kevin and Amy, made breakfast and took the time to chat--it felt natural and unforced, just properly welcoming without being over the top. The room and the house were spotless (which I do notice), but still felt like a home rather than somewhere overly styled. It's clearly been thoughtfully put together--everything looks lovely and considered, without feeling staged or flashy. Just a home that's been really well done and well cared for. Comfortable, calm, and easy to settle into. I found myself slowing down without really trying. Breakfast was a lovely surprise--homemade granola with yoghurt to start, followed by an apple Dutch baby. It all looked beautiful and tasted just as good. Simple, thoughtful, and clearly made with care. The setting is lovely as well--quiet farmland, a pond just across the lane, and that sense of being properly away from things, even for a short stay. I don't often say this, but I've not stayed somewhere that made me feel quite like this before. At this stage of life, I'm usually the one looking after everyone else, and for a moment there, it felt like someone was looking after me. It was simple, but it meant a lot. It's not flashy, but it's very well cared for, and that makes all the difference. I'd definitely go back--next time for a bit longer, and possibly with my family. read more

Remarkably well-run, immaculately clean B&B. We held a family reunion for 15 of us here and everything was impeccable: super comfy rooms with wonderful bedding, great breakfasts, terrific outdoor space where we had a croquet tournament, and professional, attentive hosts who nail all the important details. There is even a gargantuan shade tree if you want family time outside for corn hole or croquet, but folks want to stay in the shade. The same area is replete with festive string lights and a fire pit at night! PERFECT B&B for a family gathering, and we all hope to return one day! read more

This is one of the best bed and breakfast places I have ever stayed. Kit and Robin were wonderful hosts. The breakfast in the morning was so wonderful and homemade. We loved walking over to the pond across the street and just enjoying the peace and quiet. It was like staying on a farm for a few days. We stayed in the room on the main floor and we loved the bathroom with the jacuzzi tub. This would be a wonderful place for a small event or a wedding. When you find a place that makes you feel "home", even when you are thousands of miles from home, that's really cool! Kit and Robin provide that. Back again for another Chrysler car show in Carlisle, and another stay at Pheasant Field B&B. Lots of changes this year with COVID-19 issues. All employees had masks on when inside the residences and weather permitting, breakfast has been moved to outside, with social distancing in mind as well. Hand sanitizer was provided as well. Daily housekeeping has also changed, but if you mention you'd like fresh towels, they will be provided. We had plenty of towels already in the room for our stay. Great room and even greater breakfasts! I like to joke, the room is free, you pay for breakfast...cause it's that good! Another year of "sad that we had to leave". But there is next year. Hubbs has a right after Christmas birthday so we have to mix it up AND I have to make sure that I spoil him on his b-day because he was deprived as a child. I managed to spoil him rotten by taking him on a weekend getaway to go skiing at Roundtop and by relaxing at this bed & breakfast. I found Pheasant Field B&B while looking at the recommended lodging off of the Roundtop website. It had the nicest looking photos and amenities and it has garnered the Harrisburg's Reader Top Choice for B&B for the last 4 years and I can see why. The place has some great history and me being afraid of antiques (what's that called? I don't know, but old things creep me out), I thought this may have been an issue, but no. Everything in the house has been well taken care of and updated. The feeling is warm and cozy not cold and creepy. The furniture and decorations are not over-patterned, lacy and extremely old and there are no dolls - which is a bonus in my book. I immediately fell in love with the place upon arrival. The Christmas decorations were still up and they are beautifully and tastefully arranged, from the life-sized Santa authentic looking Santa sled in the back to the pine wreathes and bows adorning the windows. Pheasant Field is a magical place to travel to during the holidays. The only thing that could have made it better would have been snow. We were greeted by Chuck directing us where to park behind the house and he is such a friendly guy, I immediately felt comfortable. You know how sometimes (well maybe this is me because I'm socially anxious) people seem kind of weird and hard to connect with. It's not like that at all with Dee and Chuck - they are such welcoming and friendly people. I reserved "Suite Remembrance" which is like the penthouse suite of Bed and Breakfast spots. We got the king sized bed, fireplace, jacuzzi, our own wet bar and two balconies. Not to mention the awesome hot drink station just down the stairs from our room. It was awesome. Even better, I got a nice special for the holiday travel so it was perfect. Dee told us during the tour that the house used to be a stop for the Underground Railroad and slaves would hide under the floor in the living room until it was safe to move on. That's a pretty neat part of history. Dee and Chuck have plenty of cookies, snacks and beverages to keep all the guests happy and they are very accommodating. Breakfast in the morning was delicious on both days - oatmeal pancakes were perfect and the next day, eggs and salsa served with Marigold muffins. I would love to have that recipe; those muffins were amazing. The surrounding land is gorgeous and serene. They have a labyrinth that guests can walk as well as stables for travelers with horses. There is a lake across the way with lots of geese, but there are no longer any pheasants in the area because of all the development. Travelers with pets also have a room that they can stay in, which is nice. I believe there are about 7 or 8 rooms in the place. I would love to come back and stay here again. I highly recommend Pheasant Field B&B for anyone traveling to Carlisle, PA or the surrounding area to go to Roundtop to do some skiing. You will truly enjoy yourself and replenish your soul. I almost don't want to write this review because I seriously question my ability to get through it without crying like a child because I'm not there anymore I'm in my stupid regular home. Everything was so perfect about our stay at Pheasant Field, everything, everything, everything. Where to begin? This place has new owners since July of 2013. Their names are Kitty and Robin and they have a cute, very sweet, very quiet pup named Rehab. Basically they're like the best hosts ever. I want to be them when I grow up. We stayed in The Cottage. It was...hang on I have to go cry about how wonderful it was. IT HAS A KITCHEN!!! I didn't know what to expect when I read "kitchenette" so in case anyone reads this in an attempt to understand, here you go: minifridge, microwave, utensils, plates, cups (though not a super huge amount), knives, hot towels, sink, dishsoap. Kitchen table with wings for two. Great for cards. (I wasn't keeping score but I'm almost positive I'm beating Ned at our running game :) Then on the shelf in the roomy closet there's an electric hotplate and pan. So basically you can cook nearly anything you want. I can't remember if there are pans! Whatever, just ask Kitty if you need something. She's on top of her stuff. Read the white binder in the room. It's got all the answers. Besides having its own kitchen, The Cottage has a living room with a futon, a TV and one of those cute Amish infomercial fireplaces AND a crazy looking old ass radio. The bedroom is very lovely and has an even BIGGER fireplace. I wasn't cold at all the whole time. The toilet/shower is separate from the sink and the super shelvy amazing closet is...hang on, tears. THIS PLACE WAS A STOP ON THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD!!!! You can still pull up a floorboard by the old cooking hearth/turned classy fireplace and when you take the board away there's a little...like...cave? Or something? I didn't go down there because spiders but Ned did and it seemed pretty spacious! Can you BELIEVE that ACTUAL runaway slaves spent time hiding/staying at this place? Talk about hospitality. And rich history! Wow! Robin's love for the history of the property, structures, and town (and I guess in general) was really endearing. He's happy to show guests around the house to see the 1870's piano (never seen anything LIKE IT IN MY LIFE) or the barn that was literally used in the Revolutionary War, or the cool solar panels (a little newer) that heat the water, or the chickens, or the stables, or really whatever. It's so wonderful to see two adorable people who are so adorably proud of their work, life, and home. I can't wait to grow up and be like them! They do weddings, showers, parties, horse boarding, etc. etc. etc. They are incredibly generous and accommodating in ways that go well beyond the normal "hey here's a room I don't sleep in you can sleep in it if you want and tomorrow I'll make you eggs and maybe coffee. Maybe." Kitty was super impressive in the kitchen. This was my first time ever staying at a B&B but Ned, who is a seasoned B&Ber stayer inner, said he's never had breakfast served quite that way before. You get choices!!! Sweet or savory and there was at least a scone to start. The first scone was apple cheddar with apple butter and it was just gorgeous. Kitty's quiche was excellent, the house smelled like bacon, which I secretly think even vegans secretly enjoy, and everything we had was really fantastic. They also know a whole lot about places to go in the area AND what to get when you go there. Nearby the inn is a trailhead for the AT and they let us know where to go to pick it up and other places they thought we would like. Robin even called over to the Boiling Springs Tavern to make a reservation for us. Kitty walked over to give me an umbrella the first night when it was raining and then walked back to the house in the rain. Hang on. Tears. Across the street is a beautiful little pond with a cocktail table and two chairs looking out to the pond. The property belongs to the inn. It's a lovely little place to sit and chat in the beautiful afternoon sun. On our first night, we went into the house to let our hosts know when we wanted to eat breakfast and they were hanging with two of the other guests/friends. We sat with them and chatted for a little while and it all felt so comfortable talking and being with them all! That was probably the most pleasant part about the whole thing--Robin and Kitty are just really laid back, kind, generous, versatile, multi-talented people. We stayed with Robin and Kit on our way to Florida on New Year's Eve. We were traveling with one horse, two dogs, in two trucks with trailers. They could not have been more accommodating. I travel back and forth between Charlotte and upstate New York one or twice a year. Because I always have my dog (a Doberman) with me, I'm typically looking at the Residence Inn (with a high pet fee), or the Hampton Inn in Carlisle, which is halfway on my trip. Don't get me wrong, both of these facilities in Carlisle are very nice, but they are hotels, and when traveling with a protective dog, they like to bark at every single noise. :) I found Pheasant Field & Breakfast on www.bringfido.com and decided to check them out. The pictures looked great, and the reviews were very good, so I booked us for both the trip up and back. My Mom and I arrived with my dog on Sunday, August 31st. As soon as we pulled in, Robin, the Innkeeper, came out to greet us and show us to our room. He asked us if we needed any help, made sure to get my dog's name and my mom's name, and showed me the room. We stayed in the Pet-sylvania room (one of the three you can stay in with pets). It was an adorable room, complete with microwave, coffee maker, dishware and cutlery, even a dog bowl! All very nice, antique furnishings. Heat and air controllable in the room. A spacious bathroom well stocked with their custom toiletries, with extras in the bathroom cabinet so we didn't have to ask. He let us know we should make ourselves comfortable, and then come down to the main house when we were ready, to let him know our timing on breakfast for the morning. We got settled in and my mom went down to let him know what time we were planning for the morning. I took my dog for a walk. The dog area for walking was right outside of our room and very spacious. They also own two acres across the street with walking trails, a fountain, and a Labyrinth. Well away from high traffic areas, but only about 10 minutes off the I81, it was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. Definitely a welcome place to land after about 7 hours in the car. Sleeping at night we left the window open to hear the crickets (I love them) and frogs. Up early the next morning we got ready and went for breakfast separately so one of us could stay with the dog. The main house is beautiful, and I believe is about 200 years old. I was originally part of the underground railroad. I was greeted at the door by Rehab, their mixed lab. A wonderful dog, he stayed with me through breakfast, leaning against my leg while I pet him part of the time and then laying at my feet while I ate. Kit, the other Innkeeper, had made fresh orange-cranberry scones. Dusted with powdered sugar, these were an excellent way to start with a glass of fresh orange juice. Then i was served a zucchini-potato frittata with tomatoes and a poached egg (fresh this morning from their chickens!), and bacon. Coffee and toast were also available, but I declined. I HIGHLY recommend Pheasant Field B&B!!!! I am looking forward to staying there on my trip back; and will definitely stay there anytime I travel to NY and need to stay over halfway. What a lovely B&B in a gorgeous historic farmhouse! Kit and Robin welcomed us warmly even though we had to arrive late. Everything was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and well-presented. The coffee was great and Rehab is the sweetest, gentlest dog you'll ever meet. You should know what you're getting into with this B&B. The furnishing is very country with lots of nicknacks and little fussy details. We felt like we couldn't move around without messing things up. Which turned out to be true... We were careless and spilled wine on our bed at night. I ran down to get Dee while my husband started removing the sheets before a stain set into the mattress. There was no stain anywhere, and Dee said she washed the wine right out of the sheets. We felt badly about the spill, and Dee was noticeably chagrined, which I sort of understand, but accidents happen. The breakfast was elaborate, but the eggs were not great. And we felt like it would insult her if we didn't eat them. I enjoyed our stay much more than my husband did. In fact, as we were driving away he swore to me that'd be his last time staying in a B&B. read more

We live nearby and my parents have stayed here several times (and loved it) but we never thought we'd be guests ourselves. Until a big storm knocked out our power for a couple of days. We needed a place that would also take our more-than-50-pound dog, so we decided to splurge and treat ourselves to a bit of a vacation while we were waiting for our power to be restored. We ended up staying two nights and the owners, Dee and Chuck, could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. The building is in a lovely rural setting, a short drive away from Carlisle. It was just the right peaceful setting for us. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed, and breakfast was delicious on both days. The room we stayed in was not the fanciest I think (as you would expect from a pet-friendly room), but I remember that the room my parents seemed quite swanky. The photos of the rooms on the website are pretty accurate. Oh, and there was free wifi--essential for us! We will definitely recommend Pheasant Field to any of our Carlisle visitors and the next time a big storm knocks out our power for more than 24 hours, we will be staying there ourselves! read more

We had a great family visit here over Easter break. Owners ,Robin and Kit ,could not have been more accommodating . The historic property , beautiful setting and gracious hosts made it a relaxing getaway . The breakfast was wonderful with a choice of sweet or savory entree, fresh fruit and warm scones ! Kit also bakes tempting treats for guests to snack on during the day. Coffee and tea is also freely available. We stayed in the Gen. Millers room upstairs . The bed was comfy and the shower had plenty of pressure and hot water. Family also stayed in the other two rooms on the same floor. A perfect set up for group or family visits. We all enjoyed our stay and really look forward to returning to the Pheasant Field in the future . read more

I've never felt so at home on the road. It was such a welcome change from the Motels and Holiday Inn's. Chuck and Dee treated us and our old bassett hound as though we were family. Their hospitality exceeds anything I've ever experienced or could have imagined. The room had everything we needed including a kitchenette with microwave. We were able to buy groceries, and enjoy some wine and cheese by the pond before a thunderstorm rolled in, when we proceeded to join Chuck and the cat on the front porch to watch the wind and rain pass through. Dee outdid herself with breakfast and sent us on our way well fed and well caffeinated. I would recommend this B&B to anyone passing through or anyone hosting a special event. My wife and I have stayed at B&Bs all over the U.S., and Pheasant Field B&B is one of the best we have ever experienced. Robin and Kit are amazingly hospitable, the breakfasts are to die for, and the B&B is cozy and comfortable. Since we are avid hikers, having this B&B so close to the Appalachian Trail for day hikes was a plus. read more
