They replied back that I could do so. They asked when I planned to arrive. I answered back between 6:30 and 7:30 am. Keith then replied that 6:30 am was too early (to avoid waking up the guests) and 7:30 am would be better. I noticed in the Bridgeview website that they are technically open at 7am. I then replied back if 7 am would be okay and I was simply launching my kayak from their ramp (No intention to check in and disturb them). This was his reply: No it is not OK. First of all check in is not until 3pm. There is no way you can bring your vehicle in here, back in, park and launch without disturbing people who are sleeping. You canot come in here that early and disturb our guests period. I am not going to argue this point. You should have told us this up front instead of now. Finding it was difficult even with the GPS, but they do provide instructions on their website. Upon arrival, the staff was friendly and our room was ready. It wasn't large, and the level of amenities isn't the same as a Hilton Hotel, but you come here for clean rooms and lots of trains... and this place had both. They have a large deck overlooking the railroad bridge, and a mock-railroad dispatcher board inside and outside that shows you in real time where the trains are. Within the first 20 minutes of arriving we saw three trains, and by the third I didn't even bother to pull out my camera. It was like that all weekend. If you are awake you can hear (and feel the trains), but none woke me up in the night so their noise wasn't a problem. Breakfast was french toast and sausage one morning, and pancakes and sausage the next day. They were good. Free bottled water and some cereal and other things are available, and they have a fridge for guests to put food in. There were dozens of train books and magazines to read when you weren't talking with other railfan guests or watching trains. Keith, the owner, was pleasant and knowledgeable about the trains. Sadly, it rained heavily the Friday and Saturday nights we stay (we were away during the day), and it was cloudy the rest of the time. Thus, a lot of my pictures were gray and it was too dark, wet, or cold to sit out on the porch for most of the time. That isn't the fault of the BNB though. It is a train-watchers paradise. Next time I come, I will plan to just sit inside all the time and watch trains!

Mrs. Emily Secules, the proprietor was gracious, very helpful, and made our sumptuous breakfasts' to order. The food was wonderful and plentiful. The Manor is an older estate in wonderful shape. Emily and her husband have spent many hours and lots of work maintaining and improving the house, assisted by a lovely young student temporary resident named Katelynn. The fruits of their labor are apparent. The water is hot, the bedding is comfortable and cozy, and the towels are the best I have ever used. The Manor has at least 8 bedrooms/suites available, each with its own unique ambiance. Its location almost directly across from Wilson College makes it an ideal destination for parents when visiting students at the college or when visiting the area searching out civil war destinations. The Manor has a civil war history of its own which Emily is happy to share. I cannot recommend this Bed and Breakfast enough.

We chose the room with the jetted tub to be able to enjoy it. There were pubic hairs in and around the bathtub. Anyone who cleaned this would have seen them. Also, the shower curtain had a ring topper which encompasses the entire tub. This made the shower curtain touch your skin while in the shower. The tub was very difficult to get in and out of; it could use a step. The bed---- This was the most uncomfortable $200 bed a night I have ever stayed in. We just stayed the night before at a La Quinta and it was amazingly comfortable!! It was a double bed that leaned to one side. It was uneven therefore you could sleep welll. The pillows were the thinnest pillows I've used in years and you only get 2.

This place sold almost three years ago, and still has not re-opened. The new owner, who has a tendency to purchase everything around, NEVER renovates or re-opens anything he purchases. He is a disgrace to the community! He purchased the historic Deer Lodge well over TEN years ago, and to date still has not re-opened. The Holly Inn (now Mountain Creek Tavern - which the name should not have changed!) is no different. It's a sad, sad shame that these beautiful historic buildings are purchased by this person. Now the historic Boiling Springs Tavern is in his clutches...and like everything else, will probably never re-open. These are just three of the places he has purchased and ruined. There are several more in the Mt. Holly and Boiling Springs communities. It's sickening to see these beautiful buildings fade away to nothing as the years pass by - taking away outstanding restaurants and inns that should be open and functioning! Pieces of history lost because a greedy man with no conscious buys everything around! He needs to be stopped!

Our…read moreHostess, Rkia Hall, was welcoming, personable, and rightly proud of her considerable work in rebuilding and restoring the mansion that was burned down years ago. Our very large suite room was comfortable and nicely decorated. Antiques are Rkia's passion, and she has made many acquisitions for the mansion and its rooms. In the morning we were served an elegant egg breakfast in the large dining room. The fruit cup was especially delicious! Rkia told us she cuts it fresh every morning so as to present it at its best, and it arrived in a stemmed glass dish. All in all an enjoyable stay!
