    Winter Wonderland!
    Emily P.

My fella and I spent a lovely weekend at Fallen Tree Farm for my 30th birthday. We received an email from the innkeeper a few days before informing us that 8-12 inches of snow were expected and that if we preferred to cancel or re-schedule our booking we could do so without penalty. However, we decided to brave the weather and stick to our original plan - we were too excited to cancel! Since we were the only guests crazy enough to drive in a blizzard, the innkeepers upgraded our room from Coyle's Hideaway to Graham's Retreat - without additional charge! Graham's Retreat was a beautiful room - with a gas fireplace and a lovely balcony overlooking the property. On the first evening we dined at Boiling Springs Tavern which was delightful and delicious. It was not far from Fallen Tree (which was good, since the snow was coming down strong and steady!) We awoke to well over two feet of snow - it was beautiful! Although the amount of snow made us cancel our plans to go skiing at Ski Roundtop, it allowed us enjoy the farm and the town of Carlisle (after the innkeeper towed our car out of ditch - thanks, Brent!) The crème brulée french toast was my favorite but all of the food was divine - Kim even made us a soup dinner Saturday night since we were snowed in. All in all we had a wonderfully romantic weekend - we enjoyed the beautiful scenic views of the farm, watching the horses frolic in the snow, sledding with the innkeeper's children, and we even enjoyed laughing as we pushed the car up the snowy gravel driveway. If you want a memorable time with your loved one or family I wholeheartedly recommend Fallen Tree Farm - a postcard-perfect pleasurable experience.

Kim and Brent are lovely, breakfast was delicious, and we really enjoyed the chickens, roosters, and plump kitty cats roaming around.

From the moment I arrived (a bit later in the evening), Kyle met me at the car and made everything feel easy and relaxed straight away. It's a family-run place, and that comes through in a really genuine way. In the morning, Kyle's parents, Kevin and Amy, made breakfast and took the time to chat--it felt natural and unforced, just properly welcoming without being over the top. The room and the house were spotless (which I do notice), but still felt like a home rather than somewhere overly styled. It's clearly been thoughtfully put together--everything looks lovely and considered, without feeling staged or flashy. Just a home that's been really well done and well cared for. Comfortable, calm, and easy to settle into. I found myself slowing down without really trying. Breakfast was a lovely surprise--homemade granola with yoghurt to start, followed by an apple Dutch baby. It all looked beautiful and tasted just as good. Simple, thoughtful, and clearly made with care. The setting is lovely as well--quiet farmland, a pond just across the lane, and that sense of being properly away from things, even for a short stay. I don't often say this, but I've not stayed somewhere that made me feel quite like this before. At this stage of life, I'm usually the one looking after everyone else, and for a moment there, it felt like someone was looking after me. It was simple, but it meant a lot. It's not flashy, but it's very well cared for, and that makes all the difference. I'd definitely go back--next time for a bit longer, and possibly with my family.

In their ad they advertise Queen beds, free breakfast, restaurant and outdoor pool. When we arrived we were told no free breakfast because they were remodeling the facility. Actually one half of the existing building was undergoing in place remodeling but the entire rear half of the building had been razed down to the slab! Fortunately no heavy equipment operating. So, we figured one night, what the heck. Went up to the room. The Queen bed in the room was either a full size or a large twin but certainly not a Queen. We had to use stairs to get to the room because the elevator didn't work, guess why. Went for a walk to explore the neighborhood and talked. Went back to the room and decided the situation was so strange, it was funny. Decided to check out. This was all on the afternoon of the 19th. At first got resistance because the front desk staff, who were actually very nice, said the bed is Hotel Ava's queen?? Anyway, after some discussion, they relented and refunded our fee. IMHO, the management should either amend the current description of the facility or close it until the remodel is complete.

Check in was a breeze and the lovely lady working the evening I got into town was happy and just extremely pleasant to deal with. she got me on my way in a few moments after I arrived. Rooms were good sized and very clean- as were all areas of the establishment: Common areas, hallways etc. Bed was comfy, and the hot water was hot - without having to wait forever. Perfect. In the morning, they offer what I would say is one of the best free breakfasts I've had in quite some time. Coffee was not only hot, but tasted very good - a rare find these days. The hot offerings changed daily and pretty much every dietary preference was covered in some fashion. the folks doing kitchen duty were obviously very dedicated to their jobs, and it showed. Round it all out with an indoor pool and fitness center as well as a small outdoor patio seating area, and you have a very good place to unwind after a long day of meetings or whatever it is that brings you to town. Overall a wonderful experience and I would absolutely use this location again if back in the area.

The fitness area, is better than the average hotel gym. This will be my new stop over, as I travel Across Pennsylvania every couple weeks. Very nice, highly recommended, just a short drive from the turnpike.
