So let me take another tack and make sure that this is the place for you. First off, Mountain Meadow Resort isn't for everyone. If you can't be unplugged and off the grid, this place isn't for you. Seriously, there is no wi-fi, your smartphones are only useful as cameras because there is no cell signal, and the generator that provides electricity only runs from 6:30am to 11pm. Bookings typically go from Saturday to Saturday so if the prospect of not being able to check your texts, voicemail, e-mail and social media for a week gives you the heebee jeebees, then this place is not for you. Second, this place is remote. The resort is most definitely in the WILDerness. In the four years that I've gone I've come across black bears and been within spitting distance of a rattle snake, rattle going off, coiling and ready to strike. The nearest medical facility is 2 hours away by car. And that's not counting the fact that you could be half a dozen miles into a hike away from the resort and your parked car when you get injured. If that seems a bit too off the beaten track for you, then this place is not for you. ...Still reading? Then you must be adequately intrigued as to why people go and keep coming back to this wonderful place. And if the you're not scared off then you will likely fall in love with this place as I have. Read on if you want my attempt to add information you might be hoping to gleam from reading these reviews. This is a family run camp. Decades ago a group of families bought the place and ran it together. Their children now run the resort and while you're there you'll likely see the next generation starting to help out as well. Staff all have a direct connection to the resort via family, being visitors in years past themselves when they were younger, or being recruited by one of the first two categories. What that means is that your initial visit feels like you're an interloper at a family reunion, but on repeated trips you begin to feel that you too are part of the family, because you truly are. That sentiment permeates through and is felt not just by my wife and me but by my kids as well. I would love it if my kids worked here when they're older and if I could spend extended time helping out after I retire, whenever that is. Days can be spent on hikes, strenuous or relaxing. Obviously the former will reward you with amazing views. Unlike, say Yosemite, you could do your whole hike and never come across another group. If you do, it certainly will only be a handful. There are lakes to swim in and vistas to take in. The resort is positioned so that you can make a day hike where others will often have to backpack in and out. Sometimes you'll be tempted to backpack yourself and maybe stay over a night or two but what always draws me back is the food - homemade and delicious. Dinners are amazing. Lastly, the kids love it because of the independence and being outdoors. The "kids dinner" before the "adult one" is as much a highlight for the parents as it is the kids. More importantly my tech savvy kids being raised in the heart of Silicon Valley have no qualms with Mountain Meadow being a "screen free" place. And that alone makes our annual trip worth it.

Bingo on the store porch two nights a week. Nightly ice cream cones (you are on vacation so live it up!), nightly cocktails, card and board games. Everyone watches out for each other and other kids. If you see a kid who needs help, you help them. Some of my favorite memories are walking home from the swimming hole after a relaxing afternoon of floating and swimming and passing a cabin of friends. They invite you over for an appetizer or drink and you take a seat and stay for awhile. Why? Because it is fun and you have nowhere else you need to be! I love the place! Anyways, the cabin was clean and everything you would need for a nice relaxing stay. My biggest qualm was that the hot water did not work so we were not able to take a shower (unless it was ice water cold). And the Internet did not work - not for browsing or streaming pleasure but simply for cell phone service in such a remote area. All in all, a decent spot to stay in the Shasta Lake area.

Friendly and competent staff, boats that fit our needs well (can carry 10 people and pull riders on tubes, skis, wakeboards, etc.), etc. Ever since Eric and Shannon took over the operation, service has been great. This year we unfortunately damaged the boat (entirely our fault), and the marina handled the situation professionally and was I think very fair and reasonable in the amount that it charged us to cover the necessary repairs. As long as they'll have us back, we'll keep renting from TLM.

We also ordered a large caesar salad that we all split and the lettuce was warm like it was sitting in a window soaking up the sun, plate was not chilled and even if it was it couldn't have cooled down hot lettuce, salad was light on dressing , the halved petite romaine was very bitter, i've purchased this lettuce at costco a couple times and stopped buying it because the petit romaine tends to be very bitter, i love the consistency of the smaller denser heads of lettuce but the bitterness is unpleasant .....hopefully the chef is tasting his food and can see what he thinks. My wife ordered the pasta with shrimp and loved it! My dad had the rib eye and said it was pretty good but maybe not 57$ good. The pasta dishes were 10/10 amazing , reasonably priced and generous in size , the warm wine and salad is an easy fix, it was a nice treat after a week of camping and cooking to not have to , so highly recommend giving them a try for dinner during your stay!! Mountain scenery was incredible from the campground!! The pool was a little crowded at times but we enjoyed a couple hours of pool time both days. The location has potential, but our stay was highly disappointing…read more First and foremost, the checkout policy requires guests to wash all dishes prior to checking out. This is a major sanitation concern. IF the property thoroughly cleans and sanitizes the kitchenware between stays, this chore is an unnecessary burden on paying guests. If they do not reclean them, then the health and safety of incoming guests relies entirely on the honor system and the cleaning habits of previous occupants. It is incredibly unsettling to think the dishes we used may not have been professionally washed or sanitized. The cabin itself clearly got a "landlord special" French doors were stuck and wouldnt open. Had to call maintenance to get them fixed. The refrigerator and cabinet drawers overlap so tightly that opening the fridge makes the drawers to open, and vice versa. The fridge door is already dented, clearly from this problem. The blinds are old, broken, and don't close all the way. So we had to wake up with the sun every morning, spiderwebs in the ceiling corners throughout the cabin. For the price charged to stay here, guests should at least be guaranteed professional cleanliness. Unfortunately, this property missed the mark on all counts.

They answered all my questions, were always curious about how our day went, and genuinely kind. They let us borrow a grill, grilling tools, and a lighter so we could have a little cookout. Later, I was an idiot who forgot to buy s'mores ingredients, but the owner was an angel who went so far as to bring us her own personal stock of marshmallows and chocolate, complete with metal roasting skewers. My biggest messup was leaving my camera at the fire pit! I called them up when we were already 2 hours away on our way home. The owner was so calm and went so far as to ship my camera all the back to Oakland for me. What amazing service! The cabin itself was cozy, charming, had great air conditioning, and plenty of beds and separate rooms for all my friends. Before we left, we were already planning our next visit here! I could not find a single other campground available for memorial day weekend, and could not be happier that I was able to stay here at Salt Creek Resort. Room 10 in the tastefully restored midcentury motel was our choice because it offers arctic AC! Seriously, this small LG unit is quiet and effective! The two queen beds were perfect. We pushed them together to make a giant family bed for our two enormous beasts. Don't worry, we are seasoned travelers and brought king sheets to put on top for the dogs. The mattresses are memory foam! We love them as we have a tempurpedic at home. The train is far enough in the distant from this room that it's quite pleasant to hear the sound across the river. Make your coffee and stroll over to view Mount Shasta from the benches provided in the morning, but the really photo op is just after sunset when the mountain glows. Note, the pine tree sap will drip on your vehicle if you park in the designated spot for room 10. If you back in, it gets on the windshield. Nose first, not so much. We travel with windex and microfiber cloth, so we were prepared. What's nice is all the options for a stay at this resort. If you want a cabin with a hot tub it's available, or an Airstream, the have rows of them. It's a nice walk down to the botanical gardens and the river. This would be an ideal location for a group event. Many folks recommended coming back in the Fall, so hope to return again.
