This resort is a magical place. The cabins are so clean and stocked with everything you need. Bathrooms with plenty of towels, soap, and tp. Showers well stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash and perfect water pressure. Kitchens have all you need to make your meals and to brew your morning cup of coffee. The creek is steps away from your cabin with several sweet spots to sit by it to listen to the rushing water while you sip your coffee. Fishing, hiking, biking, boating, or simply sitting back with friends and family surrounded by a beautiful forest. One is gently forced to relax. We can't wait until next time! read more

Bonanza King Resort is not accessible to anyone with physical disabilities. If you are planning a wedding or family getaway and you want to include someone with physical limitations, this may not be the place for you. There are zero rails or ramps to enter the cabins. The entire facility lacks accessible toilets, bars to help you get up from or lower yourself onto the commode. I literally got stuck the first time I used the toilet, not being able to grab onto anything to help get up off of it. If you plan on bathing there you are out of luck. The shower in my cabin was literally 2 1/2' - 3' wide by 20" deep. No way a shower chair could fit in there, it was way too small. With only the shower head terminating from the wall, sans a hand held shower wand, it proved quite a difficult task to get clean. With zero bars to hold onto to get in, out of, or to steady oneself while within the shower. It was a quite scary ordeal worrying about slipping and falling. The doorways to the bedrooms and bathroom are not wide enough to get through with a walker or wheelchair. Within the bedrooms, there is very little clearance from the bed to the wall. Since I cannot climb stairs, the only place I could sleep was in the downstairs bedroom, or in the living room on a futon. I was left with the futon due to there being two of us with physical limitations. I needed two people to get the futon flat, suitable for sleeping. I looked in the pantry and the bedroom closet in vain, as there were not any sheets, pillows, or blankets available for the futon. The pathways around the resort are not paved so you will have to contend with gravel, compacted dirt, inclines, and grass that are not conducive and quite difficult to traverse with wheelchair, walker, etc.. The resort is quite beautiful and stunning. Other than the difficulties we had with the lack of amenities, we had a fabulous visit. It is too bad that the deficiencies limited what we could experience around the entire grounds. read more

We got married at Bonanza King Resort in May 2023 and it was better than we ever could have imagined. If you are considering hosting an event here, the space speaks for itself, but what truly makes it special is the Johnson family. Owners Kevin & Janelle Johnson genuinely love bringing people together, and they work tirelessly to keep the cabins & grounds in top shape. Communication with them was seamless. They accommodated every request we had and they went so far above & beyond to make our event special. We have countless examples of their thoughtfulness and effort. Below are just a few: - when we expressed that our desire to rent circular dining tables was too costly, they took money out of their own pocket to pay for and transport tables simply because they knew it would make us happy - though we would have been perfectly happy with normal chairs at the ceremony space, they built benches from milled lumber because it matched our aesthetic better - they flew their daughter, Lauryn, in from out-of-state to work the wedding -- again, at no cost to us - they picked up personal supplies from Costco (a 1.5 hour drive from the venue) to help lighten my load - they let my catering Chef use their own personal kitchen when he realized his sheet pans didn't fit in the cabin ovens - when we realized it wasn't in our budget to rent a party tent, they purchased one of their own just in case we needed it In terms of the space itself, the bridal suite was adorable and equipped with thoughtful touches. The grounds were rustic yet polished. The cabins were cozy and spotlessly clean. The ceremony space was beautifully manicured and the reception area was charming. There were plenty of places for guests to tuck away and explore. I cannot recommend Bonanza King Resort enough. Hosting our event here positively changed the course of our lives. I was having car troubles up in the mountains and was in a serious pickle; the people who run this place helped me out and got me back on the road out of the goodness of their hearts. Right on Coffee Creek and near the North Fork of the Trinity River, these resort cabins feature a smoke free environment nestled among cooling trees, featuring horse shoes, hammock, ping pong, and cooling swimming in the Creek. Wine Tasting is available at near by Alpine Cellars where you can sit beneath a pear tree sipping the local wines that are quite good and have a picnic. This whole area was a significant part of the California Gold rush with tailings that still line the north shore of the Claire Engle (Trinity Lake). Summer reservations are by the week and oddly, the week always goes by too fast. The family has been coming back year after year. We generally rent from one to three cabins. For most, this is a remote destination where due to light pressure; the fishing is still excellent for small rainbows, and brown trout. Larger fish can be found in the Trinity Lake. River temperature is about 60F in the summer, while the lake is much warmer. Cabins are fully equipped, which means less fuss and muss. This is a good spot from which to investigate the Pacific Crest Trail and the many lakes that surround. Best dry flies for the rivers and creeks are a size 16 Royal Coachman, 16 Adams, and size 14 caddis dry, best wet fly is a size 14 brassie. Use of very light gear is absolute. Dry fly lines number 2 or smaller. Average cast required 20 feet maximum. Buy supplies at Coffee Creek Store. Brian and Mary Bogdanich ran the place when we were there are very nice and children friendly. Most highly reccomended. The Trinity River Cotton Candied clouded, Willow and pine shrouded, gurgles a honored gray glide, with many a fair trout to hide. A bird sang and the butterfly flew, the cresting sun poked through. A flurry white perched on the flow, the fish rose to sip the show. A memorable morning on a steam Was an answer to a dream. read more

My family and I have been coming here for 34 years, and in the last 14 of them Brian and Mary are some of the best quality people I have ever met. The cabins are spotless, the neighbors friendly and the hospitality wonderful. If you want to socialize a bit they have 2 movie nights, a pancake breakfast mid-week, and small local farmers market on Monday nights (this was late July). There is a swimming area on Coffee Creek to cool off, campfire ring in the common areas and more. You can also rest, relax and enjoy your own space in the grassy areas and your deck. The Bonanza King Resort is a great place to stay and get away from the rat race. We spent four nights at the Bonanza King this summer and it was terrific! Brian and Mary are wonderful hosts and everything was just perfect. This place, however, may not be for everyone. It is rustic (although clean and comes with your own bed and bath) and at least 1 hour from civilization. There is a country store near by and lots of nature but Weaverville is 45 minute to 1 hour along a very curvey road. We rented two cabins that came fully stocked with dishes, pots, glasses etc. The swimming hole, creek, sand pit, play structure and lots of open fields were great for the kids to run and play. We rented a pontoon boat one day on Trinity Lake which was a blast. We barbequed every night and two nights there were outdoor movies for the whole family. Wednesday morning we were treated to a pancake breakfast that was delicious. Anyway...this place is great if you are willing to make the drive (4 1/2 hours from Oakland, CA) and at least 1 1/2 along a very curvey road. read more

We've stayed here twice so far. Once a few years ago in the Silvertip Cabin and this time in Fawn. It's a nice, quiet, peaceful little resort. Movie night and pancake breakfast are awesome and the owners couldn't be nicer. It's right on the river, you can hear it from the cabins. The only downside is it's kind of far from some of the old historical cities around here. It is pretty close to trinity lake, and there are some nice hiking spots and interesting things around here but if you take a trip to Weaverville is going to be an hour drive through windy mountain roads. read more

We stayed here a week ago for a wedding! It was a great resort, lots to do! Bikes for people who want to ride around. Essentially a great family getaway to relax in the pines. We loved our hosts! They were friendly with pets and other accommodations. Maybe the only complaint I could make is we were only there for 2 nights. We wish we could have been there longer...as it is so tucked away. This is a very cool place that Brian and Marry (Owners) have put their heart and soul into over the past decade and the renovation results are fantastic. We were stranded in the nearby town of Weaverville, where there was no vacancy due to the harsh wildfires in August. All hotels were booked, but Brian made our day by accommodating us and even discounting the cabin for the night. I had my wedding at Bonanza King Resort on June 13th, and my husband and I couldn't have asked for a better venue. The resort is available for a great price, and you and your guests get to stay in the cabins the entire weekend. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. The ceremony took place creek side with thick forest all around. The reception site has a dance floor, lighting, bbq pit, bonfire pit, and plenty of room for guests. I have friends who stay here every year. This year they invited me to visit for a few days. Cabins are rustic but clean and comfy. They have nice porches, Webber BBQ, nice green grass and shady trees. You are vey close to the creek and a wonderful swimming hole. No TV but WiFi is available. If you want to relax, this is a good place to go. Not any shopping near by, just hiking, bike riding, swimming, fishing and napping. Owners are very friendly and have done a great job making this place relaxing and comfortable without a high price. It is a long drive from just about everywhere , bring food and family and enjoy. We hit the jackpot when we stumbled upon Bonanza King Resort. When we drove up all we could say was WOW! We were greeted by the owners, Brian and Mary, and they immediately made us feel at home. We were just there mid-September 2016. The cabins were very clean and the kitchen stocked well. The cabins are nestled among trees, lawn, and split rail fencing. In Coffee Creek we had success fishing for trout and my brother in-law panned for gold and came away with some gold. If we can get the family together, we want to go back there for a family reunion. So, my husband already wrote a review under our screen name, but I really wanted to write one too because it was such an amazing experience. Brian and Mary (resort owners) are GREAT!! We live down in the napa valley and at times I was kicking myself for planning a DIY wedding so far away, but me as well as all of our guests couldn't have been happier. I emailed Brian and Mary probably over 100 times asking random questions because I couldn't just go there since it was almost 6 hours away from where we live. They ALWAYS got back to me promptly, and they are both so personable and inviting. They accommodated every request and even let me use one of the miniature donkeys in our ceremony. it was AWESOME!!! The property is so beautiful and they keep it up well. The cabins are so cute and comfortable. The price is very reasonable and honestly, that's the only way we were able to swing this. Ive had over 15 of the 70 guests tell me that this was the BEST wedding they've EVER been to. Believe me, every bride wants to hear that especially with as much time, money and energy that goes into this day.
