Gross and unkempt not inviting no care
David C.

First let me say that people are very nice to talk to. Having said that I will also say, there is a ton of maintenance needed here. Not just paint and fixing up. But gutters need to be cleared and the property needs to be cleaned up. It is almost in ramshackle condition. The rooms are run down and there is dirt and dust all over. We planned a trip and most of it was nice. Even when we stopped at an old hotspring property in eastern Oregon the people we're working really hard to get it to nice condition. Here, people seem like they're waiting for a miracle. There's a 15 year old boy living here his parents manage the place and there is a ton of leaves and gutters very close to the ground full of leaves. I would make my kid contribute if I was managing this place. So beyond the disrepair and dirt. There's items left like toothpaste from previous people. If I was not so tired from driving and traveling I would demand my money back and keep going. Perplexity Ai told about this place a week ago and then I called to ask about the "aviary" that was advertised that was said to be extensive and really cool. They said it was here. It was a surprise for our little one. I called today to make sure everything was in order on my way down and they still said the aviary was here. The reason we chose the place. We get here and there is no aviary. And the birds were let loose because the fire a couple of years back. Ok that is fine but tell me there's an aviary and birds her two times. Again the people are nice but not cut out to manage a motel. They don't have the energy to do it. Even with a 15 year old in his prime that could help. The place is a dump and one step from being a tear down or sold to someone that has the energy to do something with it. Cash price was cheap for California but still. Not worth it with cleanliness and left over items. Never mind the worn out doors floors and everything else. If I wasn't tired I would leave. Don't stop here unless there's nothing else. Water pressure is good hot water is good. Beds are 5 out of 10. It's a fake 4.7 star place. Burgers down the street at yaks are 5 star

Still love this motel! We stay here probably once or twice a year for days at a time. The owners are amazing and accommodating. The location is perfect for the outdoor lovers. The rooms are cozy and some are dog friendly and you really can't beat the prices.

Makeup on my towels

Dirty. Went to use the bathroom first thing and all the hand towels were dirty and had like makeup all over them. Then I pulled down the top blanket to lay down for a bit and black dirt like stuff was all over - on both beds!!! Then I thought about taking a shower but there was hair all over the bottom of the shower! I'm definately not feeling very comfortable here. Wouldn't come here again AND if they'd refund me now I'd leave!! Forgot my pillow, had to drive back to get it. The owner said he cleaned the room himself, and there was no pillow, then as he walked away he said, if you hadn't written a bad review I could have helped you out with your pillow. He retaliated against me for complaining about how dirty the room was. Then tried to blame me for the dirty room, which again had bed bug dust in both beds and make up all over the towels. I am a man who does not wear make up!

Only gripe was the tv cutting out of service. Not so crowded either. I would've stayed another night but in all honesty there's not much else to do. Good prices for cabins and surprisingly comfy beds, with a lot of personal space. Staff was so friendly and warm. Really cool for checking in if you look lost around grounds. I would definitely come back! Food around the area was surprisingly good, and friendly people.

Room 10 in the tastefully restored midcentury motel was our choice because it offers arctic AC! Seriously, this small LG unit is quiet and effective! The two queen beds were perfect. We pushed them together to make a giant family bed for our two enormous beasts. Don't worry, we are seasoned travelers and brought king sheets to put on top for the dogs. The mattresses are memory foam! We love them as we have a tempurpedic at home. The train is far enough in the distant from this room that it's quite pleasant to hear the sound across the river. Make your coffee and stroll over to view Mount Shasta from the benches provided in the morning, but the really photo op is just after sunset when the mountain glows. Note, the pine tree sap will drip on your vehicle if you park in the designated spot for room 10. If you back in, it gets on the windshield. Nose first, not so much. We travel with windex and microfiber cloth, so we were prepared. What's nice is all the options for a stay at this resort. If you want a cabin with a hot tub it's available, or an Airstream, the have rows of them. It's a nice walk down to the botanical gardens and the river. This would be an ideal location for a group event. Many folks recommended coming back in the Fall, so hope to return again.

Both rooms were clean, well-maintained and in top condition. We had a good sized room, king size bed, table and chairs, fridge and microwave, sofa, TV, heat and A/C, sink separated from the bathroom, shower/tub and coffee maker. The hotel grounds are attractive and nicely maintained. It's in a safe neighborhood and there is a small to-go coffee shop across the street. A small, well stocked grocery store is just down the street. It's a husband and wife operation and we found them to be warm and friendly in any interaction. On our initial check in the wife not only quickly checked us in but clued us as to waterfalls to see, nearby restaurants she frequented and Dunsmuir 's wonderful tap water, from the same source that is bottled and sold elsewhere (the tap water is to die for). The husband was also quite helpful checking us in the second time, changing our room to the second floor, giving us some backstory on the hotel and directions to a nice Riverwalk. The price was quite reasonable and we had a pleasant stay both times. Highly recommended.

The dining car was a special treat, the meal overall was very good but could have been better with a little attention to detail. The rigatoni pasta dish was absolutely perfect , popping with flavor and as good as any I've ever had. We ordered a couple glasses of pinot noir with our dinner and when they arrived they were noticeably warm like 80-85 degrees like they had been roasting in the sun , not a pleasant room temp like they should be. We also ordered a large caesar salad that we all split and the lettuce was warm like it was sitting in a window soaking up the sun, plate was not chilled and even if it was it couldn't have cooled down hot lettuce, salad was light on dressing , the halved petite romaine was very bitter, i've purchased this lettuce at costco a couple times and stopped buying it because the petit romaine tends to be very bitter, i love the consistency of the smaller denser heads of lettuce but the bitterness is unpleasant .....hopefully the chef is tasting his food and can see what he thinks. My wife ordered the pasta with shrimp and loved it! My dad had the rib eye and said it was pretty good but maybe not 57$ good. The pasta dishes were 10/10 amazing , reasonably priced and generous in size , the warm wine and salad is an easy fix, it was a nice treat after a week of camping and cooking to not have to , so highly recommend giving them a try for dinner during your stay!! Mountain scenery was incredible from the campground!! The pool was a little crowded at times but we enjoyed a couple hours of pool time both days. The host in the campground Frank and his dog Reno were great !! We really enjoyed our visit and wouldn't hesitate to stop in again, a lovely place to spend a couple days !!! Thank you!!!Cheers !!

Breakfast at the dining car was excellent and everyone that works there is friendly and courteous. There were two things, that keep it from a 5 star experience for us. When I arrived, the key code I was given worked perfectly. The lobby was very cool, creepy with an abandoned look. A piano played by itself softly in the corner. A few steps up the lobby stairs was my room- number 108 "The Seventies Room". The room was very comfortable with a small living room and kitchen, and a separate bedroom and bathroom. Upon arrival I had chocolate, wine and coffee waiting for me as gifts from the host. The host, Mark Juarez appeared very shortly to make sure I had everything and show me how to use the French press he very kindly left in the room. He also brought in an electric kettle for my use. Mark is a very kind host. He shared some history of the building and town, and I was even invited to a midnight show of "Beetlejuice" in the theatre directly across the street ( my stay was the evening before Halloween). My room was old but everything was fresh and the room was clean. The WiFi worked. Yes, the train is close by and you can hear it. But in my opinion it adds to the old timey charm of the hotel and the town. The town itself is picture postcard perfect. It looked like a set for a film about fall. If you to stay here, there is a wonderful dinner restaurant called Cafe Maddalena just steps from the place. Travel is about adventure. The beds are super comfortable, too. What really impressed me, though, was the customer service. In my haste to catch my flight--I had to drive all the way back to Medford, Oregon--I accidentally left a couple of items behind. Christine and Ari went above and beyond to make sure my belongings were mailed back to me. I really appreciated the care and effort they put into helping me. This is a hotel that genuinely cares about its guests, and if I'm ever back in the Mount Shasta area, I will absolutely stay here again. This is a major sanitation concern. IF the property thoroughly cleans and sanitizes the kitchenware between stays, this chore is an unnecessary burden on paying guests. If they do not reclean them, then the health and safety of incoming guests relies entirely on the honor system and the cleaning habits of previous occupants. It is incredibly unsettling to think the dishes we used may not have been professionally washed or sanitized. The cabin itself clearly got a "landlord special" French doors were stuck and wouldnt open. Had to call maintenance to get them fixed. The refrigerator and cabinet drawers overlap so tightly that opening the fridge makes the drawers to open, and vice versa. The fridge door is already dented, clearly from this problem. The blinds are old, broken, and don't close all the way. So we had to wake up with the sun every morning, spiderwebs in the ceiling corners throughout the cabin. For the price charged to stay here, guests should at least be guaranteed professional cleanliness. Unfortunately, this property missed the mark on all counts.
