Cindy opened the Guest House to us and it was amazing. We spent every evening on the porch looking at Mt Shasta, smelling the pines and one evening watching a bear lumber down the driveway. Breakfast was served at the McCloud Hotel. We placed our order the night before and the meals were made to order, on time, a perfect portion and very delicious. Sight seeing, around the area, was really fun. We fished, played golf at the McCloud golf course, swam in the river, took drives and saw where family had lived. Cindy has pleasant staff and we enjoyed chatting with Nicole. This is an out of the way and beautiful part of California. I strongly suggest the Guest House or the McCloud Hotel.

Only one bathroom could be used at a time due to weak water pressure and barely any hot water. The host's solution? "Just stagger your showers by 30 minutes." Because obviously, what every vacation needs is a bathroom rotation spreadsheet. We were joined by a dead cockroach in the closet. A true roommate. He paid no rent and still got more consistency than we did. Two bedrooms were in a damp basement with strong "unsolved case" energy. Lights didn't work in multiple rooms. Water dispensers? Empty. For a property with a $500 deposit and a push to buy trip insurance, we expected basic functionality. Instead, we got a scavenger hunt for working utilities. We contacted them during the stay and escalated to Airbnb when nothing improved. The responses were mostly gaslighting and excuses. Airbnb, not the property managers, offered a $200 coupon, which we declined. That wasn't a resolution. It was hush money. Later, we noticed the listing had been quietly edited, changing the details that had misled us. No accountability, no explanation. Just a sweep under the rug once the damage was done. If they rebranded this as a haunted escape room with shower rationing and an emotional support cockroach, maybe it would work. But as a vacation rental? Absolutely not. My credit card ruled in favor of my dispute and I got our full refund. If you think this review is bad, wait until you see the TikTok series.

The owners, Julie & Dan were so helpful with any needs we had and so hospitable...felt like we stepped back in time when customer service really meant taking care of your customers every needs...we couldn't have asked for a more wonderful stay...and to top it off, it was my husband's birthday and when we got back from his birthday dinner, Julie had baked a homemade cake for us...how sweet is that! The owners have always been very accommodating, friendly and are kind. It is a very rustic building with a lot of history behind it. This is a beautiful B&B and we love it and the ambiance here. The food that was prepared for us was outstanding and top notch. Desserts were superb and I am not a dessert person at all. The town of McCloud is also very quaint & rich in history. There is lots to do in the area such as McCloud falls (all three of them) and much more. My wife and I definitely recommend the McCloud River B&B. Go and enjoy as we have done now several times.

They allow pets in certain rooms which is nice if you're traveling with dogs! I enjoyed how communicative the staff were. If you needed something, you can text a number and they were on it! They advertise that you may not have service here, but we had service and they also had wifi. They had great views outside on the deck. The grounds were nicely maintained. It was very easy to get here and right off highway 5. On the other hand, being a bed and breakfast I was expecting breakfast to be a bit better tasting. Breakfast is included in your stay. They provide fruit, yogurt, granola, juice, coffee, and toast. You get to also choose one main entree served with a side of potatoes. The main entree rotates so it's different daily. Overall breakfast could definitely be improved taste wise, but it's very convenient and nice of them to do this. Another downfall was the temperature in the main lobby/ dining area. They ran it hot in there and if you needed to get ice (they don't have ice machines, so they provide buckets of ice) it was all melted. This happened twice. Minor complaints!

They send you the directions and room access code so you can go directly to your room. The layout is like a big house with a coming hallway in the center to access the dining and sitting area. But you can also access your room from the outside of the building, which was so much easier. We stayed in the HUMMINGBIRD. The layout is a little peculiar but we wanted a king bed and this was the only room available last minute. There are two big, floor to ceiling French doors on each side of the room that looked out into the courtyard. Although the view was beautiful, it was like you were on display to anyone walking from their car to their room, so we kept the curtains closed for privacy. The room had a king bed with very nice sheets and comfortable pillows. A fireplace with a TV in the center of the room. There was a table set up for 4 and a wet bar, with microwave and small refrigerator in the center of the room in front of the fireplace and TV. A sofa and two sitting chairs were at the opposite side of the long rectangular room. Again just a peculiar setup. We did a little room rearranging while we were there so we could enjoy the fireplace while laying in bed. The bathroom was amazing and included a large jacuzzi tub and huge walk-in shower. The staff was very polite and provided very thorough room and area information, including local attractions and recommended restaurants in the area. At night you fill out a breakfast menu and in the morning they bring you your breakfast in a basket. The presentation is amazing! Menu items changed daily. They also provided 24/7 coffee and tea in the lobby. The price for the room was fair and everything was super clean! We really did enjoy our stay. Definitely recommend. *Side note for the HUMMINGBIRD room. It would make more sense to have a small room modification by moving the wet bar next to the bathroom wall. Setting the bed in front of the fireplace so the TV is in front of the bed and not off to the side. OR.. have the sofa in front of the TV and fireplace. I know it's a weird shaped room, but my personal opinion is that it can be set up different to have a better flow. Regardless we still enjoyed the stay but just my two cents in that.

A full hot and cold breakfast buffet is included in the rate, and there is a community fridge and microwave on the deck. Some of the rooms have kitchenettes - about $99 for a double. The inn is in a building built in the late 1800s and used to provide lodging for the single men who worked in this old logging town. Yes, it's got older furniture and the building is due for some maintenance, but the owner Hiromi Suzuki keeps it impeccably clean. The tap water is magical! Place a glass on the countertop and little bubbles will form on the sides of your glass. Nestle wanted to come and bottle it, but you can enjoy it for free. (All of the water in the Shasta area is vibrant and pure. The local hospital has dispensation to use tap water if there is an emergency and sterile water is unavailable. There is also a separate building called the Kiva, which is available for rent at $200/day for workshops and the like. Easily holds a group of 25 in a wooden yurt-like structure crafted with 8 walls and oriented in a geometrical alignment. Walking Eagle, a Karuk elder, maintains a sweat lodge on the property. Groups can arrange for a safe and gentle sweat lodge experience. Sauna and outdoor hot tub on the property. So nice to soak in the magical water.
