Single handsoap for sinke and shower our entire stay.

March7, 2026 ... Twilight zone... the reviews in no way represent this establishment. We drove past the place first off because we didn't recognize the place. I actually checked to make sure that we had checked into the correct B&B when we arrived. Only 1 other couple staying there. My sweetheart booked a Saturday night at this place for my birthday. He researched extensively because he wanted to book a special place for a memorable weekend and was encouraged by the rave reviews and photos. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. And these 4 and 5 star reviews are either fake, or the clients who left these reviews do not travel often or we were purposefully given the cold shoulder by the owners. Initially, we were asked to submit our dinner orders for the night a few days before arrival. Then, after we submitted our order, we were informed that the owners would be out for the evening at a charity function and suggested we have dinner at one of the 2 restaurants in town. My sweetheart mentioned it was my birthday and they never acknowledged this the entire time we were there. We arrived at 4 pm Saturday afternoon to a run-down place with paint peeling everywhere; unkempt winter gardens and grounds; shoddy porch area; construction materials at front door and porch; and a dingy reception area. The place is under renovation, which is fine, but you have to make up for this by making the renovated areas shine. And if your establishment is old, then it has to be clean and sparkling. Our room was on the main floor, the "President" room. It was shoddy. There was a 2 x4 (?) covered in dust in the closet storing extra pillows and sheets .. which were tossed unfolded in the corner of the closet, mismatched and looked like an afterthought. I did not dare touch them. There was a single bar of handsoap in the bathroom and 2 tiny shampoo and conditioner bottles like at a Motel 6 or Days Inn. There was no soap for the shower. The clawfoot tube was covered with a dirty shower curtain with yellow and pink stains (bacteria stains are pink) at the bottom of the curtain and perhaps paint drops... I mean, how much does a new shower curtain cost?!! And how difficult is it to bleach a shower curtain if you don't want to buy a new one? The tub hand no shelf to put the single handsoap and shampoo/conditioner bottles... I left them on the floor on the tub as I showered. The bathroom was unheated. The only good thing is that there was plenty of hot water. The main bedroom area had a long exposed pipe in the corner where a radiator or wall heater had been hastily removed (replaced by floor vents) and the floor had not been repaired. Not a single painting on the wall in the bedroom. Dinky lamps and too low bedside tables made the place look dingy and shabby and certainly not charming. Lying the in the bed and looking up, I could see dust coating the walls behind the bed. The bedding was old and shabby. The towels had holes. There was no bottled water or coffee/tea service in the room. The owners were gone for the evening and had left no cookies, cakes, brownies (as other clients had reported), crackers, bottled water, water canteens or kettle out for us to make tea or coffee. Nothing. I repeat, nothing. Just water from the bathroom tap and no glasses or cups to drink from!! The hall down from our bedroom was ramshackle with odd/ends and old furniture and general disarray and a bedroom at the end of the hall was used for storage ... but no attempt made to tidy up anything for guests staying in the hall. Worse than the appearance of the place was the lack of utter basic hospitality by the owners. When we arrived, the husband owner was walking across the reception in workclothes, did not introduce himself and gestured to our room in the back. We had to ask if he was the owner (Dan). He didn't escort us to our room or show us around (there was nothing to show us but disarray and no amenities). At breakfast the next morning, his wife Julie arrived and did have the fire stove lit which was nice, but never introduced herself at anytime. She was polite but did not act like the wonderful hostess we had read about in the reviews. She served our breakfast .. which was not edible and which was cold. The FrenchToast was more like a terribly sweet dessert and the other couple had an omelet that looked atrocious. I didn't finish it and asked for a fried egg and toast and that was good. But she is supposed to be this wonderful baker and they are supposed to have fantastic breakfasts at this place... where was this? Either the owners hated us and wanted to make that felt known, or we were a complete inconvenience to them that weekend (and hence the lack of basic amenities and toiletries and hospitality and warm delicious food), or this place is just a sham. We didn't ask for a refund and don't expect one.For the exorbitant fee we paid, this was worse than a Motel 6. Stay somewhere else when in McCloud.

We stayed at the beautiful McCloud River B&B for one night. It's a great home-base for excursions; we were there to see a show but also managed to squeeze in two hikes from trailheads just a few miles outside of McCloud. We had the cozy Mother McCloud Suite, which was actually 3 rooms: 2 bedrooms and a living room with a separate sitting area, plus a private bathroom with a large shower - for a price that was very affordable. It was surprising how quiet it was at night! We loved the leisurely breakfast in front of a wood stove; the food was wonderful!

My wife and I stayed here over the New Year's weekend. From the moment we arrived till the minute we departed, the hospitality and food was second to none! The owners, Dan and Julie were so friendly and accommodating, we didn't want to leave. In fact, my wife and I extended our stay! Once we arrived, we were immediately greeted by an employee who showed us to our room and gave us a tour of the facilities. We were told to make our selves at home. After waking up on New Year's Day, we were served pastries, omelettes, bacon and fruit. The following day, we woke up to another amazing breakfast. Julie is an amazing cook! Later in the afternoon, Dan provided us with a tour of the property consisting of an extensive history lesson involving the Inn and the town of McCloud. I was left in "aww" after learning the extensive history and seeing all the memorabilia displayed on the walls. Every afternoon we returned to more home cooked goodies that was waiting for all guests down in the main area, all to be enjoyed in front of a warm fire that Dan keeps burning throughout the day! We ended our nights falling asleep on THE MOST COMFORTABLE bed I've ever had the privilege of sleeping on!! I could go on and on, but words don't do this goldmine the justice it deserves! My wife and I can't wait to come back! Thanks for such a comfortable and amazing time!

My wife and I love this place. It really is a step back in time. The building is the original admin. offices for the lumber company which at one time encompassed the entire city of McCloud. If you want a more accurate history lesson talk to Dan. He loves sharing the history of the building, the city of McCloud and the lumber company. The food here was excellent. Jan not only is an excellent host she is a great cook. If I had anything negative it would be that we couldnt eat her food for lunch and dinner as well! The breakfast we had consisted of the best blueberry muffin I've ever had followed by what must have been a 3 egg loaded omelet. We stayed in the Presidents room (5) and slept on the most comfortable mattress (when we get home we are going to buy one) and the softest sheets. There was no TV in the room but the room had excellent free WiFi. They are doing a lot of remodeling so there is some work going on but that just makes my wife and I excited to see the progress when we return. Jan & Dan along with their staff are great! I would recommend this place 100% if you want a quiet, refreshing time to simply unwind. The only downside, and it has nothing to do with the B&B is McCloud shuts down early. If you plan on eating dinner here make sure you come Wednesday thru Sunday. Most of the restaurants are closed Monday & Tuesday. Thank you Jan & Dan & staff for a wonderful 2 night stay! We will most certainly be returning!

We stayed here in October 2020 during our trip to McCloud Falls/Burney Falls. When you first arrive there is no one there to greet you. You have to let yourself into the home with a code & the room door itself is open. The house is very old & Victorian. Our room was downstairs right next to the lobby area so it was loud at night when other guests were having conversations/hanging out. There are pastries for everyone in the lobby however the pastries for each room are not equal. We got tiny muffins with some other chocolate dessert while the room next to us got cupcakes, a poppyseed loaf & chocolate pastries as well. Breakfast served the next morning was a granola fruit bowl & avocado toast with potatoes/vegan sausage (which we didn't touch lol). The breakfast was okay -the potatoes weren't crispy & the avocado toast had too much cream cheese. The best part was the granola. Overall it was a pretty good one night stay. Pros: Comfy bed Large room Nice location- walkable to restaurants Delicious granola Cons: Water took a while to warm up Very squeaky floors Noise from other guests Cold room/floor Bright light from lobby while sleeping

From the moment you arrive you feel welcome and relaxed! Julie and Dan have created an oasis in beautiful McCloud. Downtown is a quick walk and the McCloud reservoir is some of the most amazing fishing in Northern California. Relax by the fireplace, visit with other guests or enjoy your own private retreat with spacious rooms and all the amenities! Julie is a fabulous baker and chef, and Dan is an avid fisherman with a passion for the city's amazing history. Do yourself a favor, book your room, or bring your friends and family for a getaway!

    Snowy visit.

Wonderful. Impeccably restored (and still restoring). There are very tasteful and serene common areas and the fireplace was inviting. Our room (#2) was spacious and fit three adult sized people (us and our teenager) very comfortably. Comfy beds with nice linens and plenty of towels in the bathroom. Hospitality was top notch with a historical tour of the amazing building and beverages and homemade treats. Breakfast was over the top beautiful and delicious. Juice and hot drinks, fruit, granola & yogurt, blueberry scones (!), omelette, hash browns, and bacon. So good. Dan helped us with a low tire before sending us off for home. Great place, nice hosts, sweet town. Book here, you won't be disappointed!

What a hidden gem this is, we booked a stay here in a whim during our family road trip and we are sooooo happy we did!!! The home is beautiful and has so much history. Julie, the owner, was so warm and welcoming and had baked delicious cookies for our arrival, the kids were so excited She gave us a tour of the home and told us all about the history of the home and the town. We stayed in the Switch Board room which was spacious for our family of 4! The sheets and towels were top notch and better than any of the 5 star hotels we stayed at on this trip. The bathroom was nicely updated too considering the home is historic. Julie made us an amazing breakfast and even made our kids a special meal that was kid friendly. She is honestly an amazing cook!! This place is truly special and Julie is a wonderful host, I highly recommend!!

We make it a point to stay at Mt Shasta Ranch when we drive to the Bay Area from Seattle. Each and every time we have been warmly welcomed with fresh homemade cookies, coffee and tea, as well as wine in the afternoon. They are kind, hardworking people living their dream of offering a top notch bed and breakfast in their lovely home. I especially enjoy sundown on the front veranda with blankets, our beverage of choice, a wonderful view of Mount Shasta and the beautiful countryside. The mansion, built in 1923, is well kept and spotless. There is a large dining room with a billiard table and many windows where one can read and watch finches and other birds at the bird feeders. There's also a cozy living room with a fireplace and a lovely wood fire when it is chilly outside. Each time they have offered our choice of rooms when available and been treated like family. The bedrooms, each one tastefully decorated with antiques, feature comfortable beds and thoughtfully curated amenities. There are two separate lodges for families behind the house itself. I also appreciated seeing a pair of horses in the pasture next door. Kris and David are always happy to recommend local restaurants, hikes and other activities. But most of all the this B&B is a quiet and peaceful respite. I know they also host various groups for retreats. We have especially enjoyed meeting other guests at the Mt Shasta Ranch as well. Lastly, a highlight of our stay is Kris's gourmet breakfasts, delicious and varied, served by David who is charming and accommodating. This place is an absolute gem. We highly recommend it.

The only part I didn't care for was that it was right next to the front door (literally shares a wall) to the entrance of the lobby. So, that meant a lot of foot traffic and sounds nearby. That time, I spotted the Treehouse Room, and told myself I would be back. This year, I took my man on a special trip here in the summer. We stayed in the Treehouse, and that is my favorite place here. I couldn't imagine a better room. We had a great view of the stars (there is a sky light above the bed), a super spacious bathroom with an epic jetted soaking tub (we literally stayed in for 2 hours), a beautiful fireplace and a fireplace in the bathroom! This room is truly private and really great for a special occasion. We did have some laughs though because a couple of times we thought someone was knocking on the door (they deliver breakfast right to your front door in a basket), but quickly realized it was a woodpecker! LOL. There are tons of woodpeckers and pretty bird sightings around. Plus, you're just a 5 minute drive from the Shasta caverns and you can't beat this place. My only area of recommendation is improving the breakfast. Years ago when I first went, everything was homemade, like a true B&B. This time, it was like a microwaved store-bought quiche that was not edible. Really plain and funky breakfast, so we would pick through it but it was not great. If they picked up the food options this place would be a solid 5 stars in my book.

They send you the directions and room access code so you can go directly to your room. The layout is like a big house with a coming hallway in the center to access the dining and sitting area. But you can also access your room from the outside of the building, which was so much easier. We stayed in the HUMMINGBIRD. The layout is a little peculiar but we wanted a king bed and this was the only room available last minute. There are two big, floor to ceiling French doors on each side of the room that looked out into the courtyard. Although the view was beautiful, it was like you were on display to anyone walking from their car to their room, so we kept the curtains closed for privacy. The room had a king bed with very nice sheets and comfortable pillows. A fireplace with a TV in the center of the room. There was a table set up for 4 and a wet bar, with microwave and small refrigerator in the center of the room in front of the fireplace and TV. A sofa and two sitting chairs were at the opposite side of the long rectangular room. Again just a peculiar setup. We did a little room rearranging while we were there so we could enjoy the fireplace while laying in bed. The bathroom was amazing and included a large jacuzzi tub and huge walk-in shower. The staff was very polite and provided very thorough room and area information, including local attractions and recommended restaurants in the area. At night you fill out a breakfast menu and in the morning they bring you your breakfast in a basket. The presentation is amazing! Menu items changed daily. They also provided 24/7 coffee and tea in the lobby. The price for the room was fair and everything was super clean! We really did enjoy our stay. Definitely recommend. *Side note for the HUMMINGBIRD room. It would make more sense to have a small room modification by moving the wet bar next to the bathroom wall. Setting the bed in front of the fireplace so the TV is in front of the bed and not off to the side. OR.. have the sofa in front of the TV and fireplace. I know it's a weird shaped room, but my personal opinion is that it can be set up different to have a better flow. Regardless we still enjoyed the stay but just my two cents in that.

She followed up with me on text message as to my arrival time to make sure that she would be there to greet me. When I walked in, I noticed my phone number was coded to the key pad entrance to the B&B. So cool! Janelle was there to greet me and give me an envelope with my key and instructions. I went up with her to the bedroom and needless to say, was so impressed with her style and quality that she brings to her B&B. The room seemed to be flawless in the way that she spent time picking out pictures and linens. The linens were even washed in a very nice fabric softener and didn't have that normal "hotel" smell. I was able to get the Sun Dial Room, and even though it was the most expensive, it was definitely worth every penny. There was a fresh, large bottle of water in the room with chocolates. I had free wifi and a nice flat screen TV. A jacuzzi tub. And oh, did I mention.. the best, most comfortable bed that I never wanted to leave? Top it off.. breakfast in the morning makes me giddy just thinking about it. I had french toast, a vegetable frittata, potatoes, chicken/apple sausage, fresh juice and coffee. Janelle served breakfast promptly at 8:30 and I was definitely there with bells on. Everything was served family style and while eating breakfast you are able to enjoy the company of other guests, which makes breakfast that much more entertaining. For a few bucks more, stay at this bed and breakfast. Completely avoid the Howard Johnson or other chain hotel. You will not be disappointed.

The bed was very comfortable and quiet location made for a very restful night. Breakfast was basic fare but ample and tasty. Great way to get us on the road. Coffee to go was greatly appreciated too. Both Connie and Rick were welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and certainly would stay here again whether we were traveling through or staying in the area for several days.

My friends would say, "Sure, stay here when you're in town. Not a problem at all. We have a guest room, and a really nice backyard. Oh, you're bringing your bicycle(s) too? That's fine; we have a garage where you can keep them safe and dry." What would probably happen next is that we'd avail ourselves of all of this hospitality: my friends would cook us eggs for breakfast, give us glasses of wine in the evening, and let us go about our business in between the breakfast and the wine. And then, not ready to say goodbye to the weekend yet, we would probably go off on a long hike and not come back to collect our bicycles until nigh dark. When we finally made it back, my friends would be worried about us and would have already called around to try to find out whether we were okay. All in all, quite nice. It's good to have old friends in Redding.
