We had the best time here from registering and booking our reservation. They were so accommodating for someone that especially is not able to stand and they were able to provide me with all the measurements that I needed. The suite is so huge and so beautiful. Enjoyed every moment and took many showers in that beautiful shower. I highly recommend staying here when you're in Dunsmuir even if you're not handicapped. But if you are handicapped it is a must. Thanks again for the wonderful stay. There are many restaurants in town and also there's a little grocery store. You don't even have to leave town. read more

This is our third time staying here, and we keep coming back because we love it that much! The hotel feels more like a private apartment--spacious, quiet, and so comfortable. Check-in and check-out are always super easy, which makes the whole experience stress-free. We usually book one of the larger rooms that can accommodate up to five people, and it's wonderful. The king-size bed is incredibly comfortable, and even the pull-out sofa bed is cozy. There's also an extra sofa in the living room area, perfect for watching TV or just hanging out. The room includes a fridge, sink, and tea kettle, with a great selection of teas. Downstairs in the lobby, there's coffee and oats available for a quick breakfast or snack, which is such a nice touch. My favorite part, though, is the bathroom--it's clean, cozy, and well-designed. There are two sinks, a spacious shower, and the toilet has its own private door within the bathroom, which adds a thoughtful level of privacy. It truly feels like a home away from home. This is a clean, cozy, comfortable, nicely appointed, 7-room boutique hotel located right in the historical district of beautiful Dunsmuir. This is a wonderful hotel within easy walking distance of all of the shops and restaurants in the charming little downtown area. Dunsmuir is one of my favorite towns and I often visit for the great shops (New West Hats, Golden Stitch, Ted Fay Fly Shop, the rock shop, the cute Siskiyou museum, Dunsmuir Hardware and others), and access to amazing trout-fishing country. This is a fantastic little hotel in a wonderful town nestled in a breathtakingly beautiful landscape. Love it. read more

My daughter and I were traveling from Oregon to California and she was very sick. I decided to stay at this hotel because she was sick and wanted to lay down. We left the next morning in a hurry at around 5:30 a.m. because I wanted to get my daughter home to a doctor and my daughter left her laptop. When Jerilyn texted that we left it, I asked her to ship it. That was a Monday and by Friday, she had not sent it and quit responding, completely ignoring my messages and not returning my calls. It has been 11 days and it still is not here. When I checked again today, I said I would call the Sheriff's office. Her texts were very passive aggressive today and I'd be happy to post what she sent. My daughter was trying to finish college while sick and needed her computer. She said "good thing they invented iCloud". I'm assuming she meant my daughter could work on a different computer. I guess she thinks it's ok to keep someone's belongings. She also had to emphasize that we left it. I offered to pay and asked for express shipping. She had zero concern for returning our laptop. Yes, we left it but it should not take that long and I explained our stressful situation. Very unprofessional and such a lack of empathy. Im still wondering if we will receive it. read more

I would have rated this higher, but we got up and left very early because of the ANT invasion (on the wall, on the kitchenette counter, in my handbag). Apparently, we heard all of Dunsmuir is having an ant problem because of the dry weather and the drought is not helping any of the businesses. I booked my reservation through Booking.com. I have not seen this place before and wanted to avoid my husband's favorite because it's too rustic for me. Plus, we have never stayed on the downtown side and my husband had no clue this side of town existed even though Dunsmuir is one of his favorite places. The photos and the reviews were intriguing. We were running late and received a call with our code to the door and hotel room. Fortunately, someone was still there when we arrived. I'm bad with names, but she was very helpful with places to see and eat. We even saw her at The Wheelhouse when we were picking up dinner. There is no 24 hour concierge or a person on site, so it's like being in your own apartment. There are no elevators, only stairs to the rooms. The only room downstairs is the ADA room. We parked in front of the hotel, but there is limited parking next door and parking really is off street. Fortunately, we were there on a Sunday, so we didn't have any issues with that. We were in room 3 and if you look at Jim's review, he nailed it. The room is very small, but I thought is was tastefully decorated (i.e., cute). I thought the bathroom was fairly large and nicely decorated - No complaints on the shower. The shampoo/conditioner bottles were very small, but we rarely use them. I did have to go downstairs to ask for soap. I saw the ant bait/traps in our room so in the back of my mind, I hoped they didn't arrive, but unfortunately, they did. The window view is very sketchy looking. I did get to view the ADA room and Room #1. Both are very spacious and if you are looking to spread out a little more, those are the rooms to stay in. If the ant problem goes away, I might consider it again and pay a little more for the larger room. read more

We frequent this quiet little town to get away from the chaos of the city and for the activities the outdoor activities the area provides. We decided to spoil ourselves for a special occasion and stay at this beautiful boutique Hotel. There's convenient street parking right in front, and it's walking distance to shops and restaurants in the historic downtown area. The beautifully inviting lobby is passcoded, and so was the door to our suite. I like how it felt high tech. The room was very spacious, up to date, very clean, and had lots of amenities, a kitchenette, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was also very spacious and provided everything you can think of. The staff was very inviting and helpful with all our needs, and gifted us with a welcome card, chocolates and bottle of wine when they were informed we just tied the knot. We're glad we treated ourselves here. It was relaxing, and quiet. Just what we needed. read more

We LOVED the Mossbrae Hotel. What a cute find and a sweet resting place on our way to Oregon. We loved how this wasn't a traditional type hotel as the entry is built out of a storefront and the 'apartments' are upstairs. The lobby is country chic and inviting, the rooms have very tasteful simple and very comfortable decor. The keepers interacted with us by text only which worked very well and were very attentive. Note if you arrive too late there's not much food in town, luckily we brought our dinner with us! We'll definitely be back! read more

I absolutely advise you to stay at the Mossbrae Hotel if you are in the area. My husband, myself and our 2 small kids stayed while looking for a cabin to buy in Dunsmuir. I booked our stay over the phone with Jerilyn and she was incredibly kind and helpful. She put us in room 1. The hotel is very well done. It's hip, trendy and cozy! No grandma doilies here! We arrived after hours and it was a very cold night, our room was toasty and ready for our late arrival with the kiddos, thanks Jerilyn! One of my biggest check boxes for anywhere we stay while traveling is a good, comfortable bed and the bed was amazing. From the linens to the pillows it was perfection. Excellent and luxurious; carefully decorated in a style one might call Late Chenille. Large, elegant bathroom. Tidy, perfect kitchenette. Helpful staff upgraded me on hearing there was a problem with my original room. They honored my ESA letter, and the dog and I felt at home. This older building has been beautifully redone. My room was a decent size and well decorated. The bathroom was a very good size and had one of the better showers I've seen at hotel - heated bathroom floor!! The AC also works great. Nice touches were hulu, Netflix and Disney - there's not much to do in Dunsmuir at night. The linens are nice, the bed was comfy and street parking isn't an issue. Even though I would absolutely stay here again, one small irk - the hallway floor needs a runner to muffle sound because the walls are a little thin. read more

Pros - upscale rooms with very comfortable beds; nicely set up kitchenette with a mini-fridge, electric kettle, coffee-maker, counter top, and place settings; and large bathroom. Ice is available downstairs. Lobby is comfortably furnished. Cons - check in is difficult with no one on site (and very slow responses by text only); parking is on-street only and unclear (tip - do not park across the street under the maple tree in the fall because it will drip sticky stuff); area is nearly abandoned (the entire block across the street is empty) - this is obviously not the fault of the hotel and hopefully the area will revive gradually but the lack of someone on site from the hotel adds to the sense of abandonment; when I arrived, the lobby had some scones which someone had broken off pieces from and they were still there the next day at 11:00 am (kind of icky, really); the freezer in the room refrigerator needed defrosting - so much frost I could not put anything into it. Tips - Room #4 is small and doesn't have any sitting area. But it's nicely furnished and the BA is large. If you stay, don't miss the Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens which are about 8 minutes away. Totally worth a look and worth a walk along the river. read more

Super cozy hotel! RESERVATION: I booked through Expedia, but I think it was available on several different booking websites. I just looked to see what one had a better price. THE STAY: They called me the day before to check what time I was arriving so they could provide me with a key code to enter in the building and also your room. It's contactless, so if you are planning to arrive late, that's no problem. They had music playing on the tv when K and I arrived in the room! I booked Room 4 which was a Queen Bed with a small closet kitchenette. It was so cozy! This place doesn't feel like a cold hotel, but instead it felt like you were coming home or into a cozy dorm building. They have a outdoor patio area in the back if you would like to hang out. I would definitely stay here again! LOCATION: Dunsmuir is a small town with only a handful of restaurants that close relatively early. Plenty of parking, since most the stores around it are permanently closed. There is a small grocery market, brewery, coffee shop, few dinner restaurants, etc. Within a 15 mile radius, you do have more options! read more

Wow! I was not expecting the level of quality at the hotel. The pictures online do not really show how nice of a hotel Mossbrae really is. While I did not read 1 star review, I can tell you it is probably an outlier. It is apparent the owners care about making their guests feel like they are staying at home versus a hotel. Seriously, I felt like I was at home. I chose the hotel in large part to its location as I was coming home from a long driving trip. However, my wife and I both agreed, we need to use Mossbrae as a home base in the future. The price was low (too low) but I will not complain about that! Parking was easy. Getting into our room was easy. They whole experience was delightful. Our only regret is we came in late and left early. :( read more

Super cute, boutique style hotel with original hw floors. Bedding was exquisitely soft and bed so comfy to sleep on. We stayed in King Room #6. Decor was super cute. Nice, deep Koehler bathtub with hot water and lovely bathroom toiletries. Fresh ground coffee and even 1/2 and 1/2 in the fridge. The room came with a small fridge, 2 plates cups glasses wine glasses, too, all hidden in a small closet. The room came with a sitting area. Wi-Fi worked well. Lots of cable channels. Heater excellent. Hotel was super quiet - no street noise, no neighbor noise. Easy access off freeway and perfect stop on way from CA to OR. Dog friendly for $25. Super clean linens and towels. VERY Covid safe with hand sanitizer and masks around the hotel. Only con was the front desk employee wasn't very friendly and looked like she didn't want to be there. We arrived at ~ 6:15 pm on a Friday. read more

Wow, what a great place! My experience with mom & pop hotels has been really hit or miss. The good places are really good, but the bad ones are really bad. At least with huge chains, the experiences are more or less consistent. But this place is way up at the top of some of the favorite hotels I've ever stayed at. The room was extremely modern looking and comfortable. It had hardwood floors, the mattress was very comfortable, and the sheets were so soft! On top of that, the bathroom was probably the largest one I've ever had in a standard hotel room - 2 sinks, a soaking tub, and plenty of walking around room in there. I'd bet if you had to compare square footage, the bathroom was the same size as the sleeping area. Plus the woman working the desk was extremely nice and accommodating. If I had to nitpick anything, housekeeping overlooked a usb charger/cable that the previous guests had left behind, and also I don't think there is an ice machine on the property. But like I said, those are just minor quibbles - everything else that you'd want out of a hotel was knocked out of the park. Sure, this place is a little pricier compared to other Dunsmuir properties, but hey, you get what you pay for. And I would definitely pay more the next time I'm in the area to stay here over one of the motel-looking places down the street. read more

A beautifully quaint and clean little hotel in Dunsmuir close to Mount Shasta; will definitely be coming back!!

3 weeks new after 14 months of renovations. Brand new everything charming boutique hotel. I found it very earthy and comforting and never wanted to leave the room. Stayed in the California king comfortable large bed, down comforter, beautiful materials and decorations. Restored wood floors from the original building excellent shape gives the property a hard to find warmth these days. This small town is in the shadows of famous Mount Shasta standing over 14,000 feet tall, when I visited in October it was blessed with beautiful white snow visible for miles. The hotel is centrally located in this small country town. Very close walking distance to restaurants and other attractions of this town. Originally visited this hotel and town with many unknowns, leaving with that new friend feeling! My Daughter and I thank you Kyle! You truly went the extra mile! read more

Wow, this is the first time staying here while traveling south to the Bay Area. After a long days drive the owners and the property is just what we needed to recharge. We've been on a nine day road trip, spent a little more and a little less per night during the trip, and this hotel is by far the highest quality. Horrible experience ever! I choose this hotel because it said they're open for 24/7, and always can be reached. But what's the truth? 1. No staff, no call! I made a reservation and arrived around 11pm, the door was locked and there's no staff there. No entrance password mentioned in the confirmation email, so the only thing I can do is call them. I tried for like one hour at midnight and no response at all! 2. No passcode! I checked all emails I received, never mentioned about the entrance has a passcode and didn't provide the passcode for customer who made reservation successfully! 3.Ridiculous slogan No matter in the website or on the entrance door, it said they can always be reached by call and open for 24/7, but as you can see, it's a lie. To the owner: I just don't understand how difficult to put all useful information in the confirmation email????!!!!! I was super angry and scared last night. I should stay in a warm place at night instead of standing on the street at a cold night to make calls with some homeless people nearby!!! Just feel so sad to have these kind of experience read more

Due to a family emergency I had to drive from California or Oregon, with the whole pandemic thing I was pretty worried, do I sleep in my car, a possibly dirty dive hotel? That's when I found mossbrae hotel. It was SO CLEAN and easy check in for late arrivals like myself. I was able to actually get amazing rest on my trip without a single worry, on my way back a week later I stayed here again, I had mentioned I would be late as the drive was taking a little longer than I hoped... around 11pm I walked into my room with the TV on, relaxing music playing. I was exhausted and it just gave me such a sigh of relief and I was able to fall right asleep. The room was so cute with everything you need for your morning coffee and shower. I'll be back one day just to explore the cute little town and get some good rest :) right near some cute cafes and hiking spots as well read more

Needed a place to stay for a work trip in Weed, CA. I happened to stumble across this place as opposed to other colleagues who chose the Best Western. Pleasantly surprised. The room was much cleaner than 4 or 5 star hotels I've been on recently. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was very clean and tidy. Just a few things: -The room smelled like maybe someone smoked in it? My clothes and suitcase smelled like crazy cigarette smoke after I left. -I didn't see cable on TV although they did have streaming services. -No body lotion. Most hotels at least have lotion so this was frustrating especially since there aren't many nearby/accessible convenience stores. -I could hear the person across from me early in the morning walking and it woke and kept me up. -Maybe they could provide some type of food? Especially breakfast maybe? It was hard having to schedule when to eat because restaurants in the area open or close at certain times. Other than that, I had a really nice stay. read more

I love this place! Was originally looking for a place to stay in Shasta, but this came up and it's so close that we figured why not. So glad we did! Our first stay was in May and we just stayed again last week - both times there were wonderful. The first room we stayed in was room 1 and this room faces the street and is definitely on the larger side (good if more than 2 of you ). This last time we stayed in room 6 which is at the back of the building - smaller, but more than enough room. Both rooms were decorated/furnished beautifully. Beds were super comfy and everything was spotlessly clean. Bathrooms are huge - only downside is the shower/bath glass "door" - it opens out to the floor and is a little awkward which means you get water on the floor, but it's such a nit-picky complaint it's really no big deal. Both times have been super quiet. I've received communication prior to my stay both times and been given the code to the main door and the room, so there have been no issues getting in. 100% recommend! read more

Fantastic! The deluxe king studio is superb! We stayed in room 2 and it was nothing less than fabulous. The room has a modern mild rustic feel and was airy and clean throughout. Very cozy. The air and heating systems were all modern. Often on road trips we don't have many options when driving through rural towns. This hotel came up as available on our way up to Mt Shasta. Needless to say, we booked it immediately. A bit on the pricier side when you think about where you are but so worth it. All around are no frills for $100+ so this was a gem! There are only 6 rooms total and we were in the king room facing the main (front and side) streets. Neighboring are cute shops and restaurants. Magdalena which is just a short walk around the corner was delicious and probably the most upscale for fine dining. read more

We were looking for a place to stay with our 2 teenage boys on the drive up to Bend and I'm so glad we found the Mossbrae! The hotel is really beautiful and we all loved it. Cute places to eat within a block and beautiful scenery all around town. This place was great for one night, but would be even more amazing for a romantic getaway! If you're looking for a hotel anywhere near the Dunsmuir area, this is it. Comfy beds, beautiful bathroom, spotless and every detail is perfect. I found this hotel on line and it looked great. Maybe the owners have changed hands or something but my families stay was a hectic mess. It is a check in on your own type hotel whish is fine but if you have issues you need to keep calling someone off site to get help. Codes for the doors did not work. They did not work on the bedroom door either. They gave them new codes and finally they were able to get the doors open. If would have been nice to have someone give a bit of help without constant calling phone numbers to get help. There are a lot of super super steep steps to get to the rooms. If you are older or have alot of luggage or can't do a ton of stairs or claustrophic or not into climbing do NOT stay here. Also no parking unless you find a spot somewhere on the street so safetly with items left in the car is an issue. If you are worried about a packed car you need to keep bringing all items in and go up and down that horrible staircase to secore your belongings. Total shame there is No secure parking. No staff on site. Building is extremely old and run down. Photos look good so not sure when they were taken. I called to talk to the person on staff the next day and she said all issues were with the pound symbols and check symbols etc and wrong codes etc. The high fee to stay there was apparently because it was booked through a second party site. Paying a couple hundred dollars for the nightmare was not worth it. The room itself had abroken television but sheets seemed clean. Nightmare of an expirience. If you dont expect much but a room and a bed it does the job. Bare minimum for a premium price. read more

I stayed here overnight on a business trip. The hotel was newly constructed from an old structure. They kept some of the old charm but added many modern conveniences such as a heated bathroom floor and ceiling air/heat. The room was very clean and quiet. It is located on the main street of Dunsmuir. I was in Dunsmuir during the off season so I had a chance to get the local feel at the Dunsmuir Brewery for dinner, and The Wheelhouse for breakfast. My wife and I found the Mossbrae Hotel to be a great start to our roadtrip from San Jose to Portland. The hotel used to be a cafe with several apartments on the second floor and has been newly renovated into a hotel with 8 bedrooms. The king bedroom was a great size, comfotable and beautifully decorated. The hotel has a homey ambiance that was perfect to relax and unwind mid point on our way to Portland. The staff "Ashley" was very friendly and accommodating. We also found that it was conviently located near a supermarket and delicious pizza spot. I recently visited friends in Dunsmuir and stayed at the Mossbrae Hotel for a few nights. I stayed in Room 5. I was very happy with the room and that it didn't face the street. So it was very quiet. There's only 7 rooms. There's a flight of stairs to get to the rooms except room 7 on the first floor. Someone mentioned the ants. I was given a spray bottle with natural ingredients to spray at the ants. I definitely recommend not having any food in the room. It's very easy to park on the street in front of the hotel. I left my car in the same spot and didn't get any tickets. In Dunsmuir, there's really not a lot of options for eating. You're better off going to Mt Shasta. Definitely try and get the front door and room code in advance if you're arriving late. This hotel is probably the nicest place to stay at in the area. read more

Great accommodations with stylishly decorated, well-appointed, and CLEAN rooms. Anything that runs on electricity appears to have been updated quite nicely (lighting, AC/heat, bathroom in-floor heating, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker). Traveling during a pandemic is weird enough, but with contactless check-in, coded keypad entry to all doors (no keys needed!), and hand sanitizer everywhere, this gem of a hotel allays any traveling trepidation. I really liked my one night stay in room 3. Make sure you are fit enough to climb the grand staircase with your bag. Very well done renovation. TV was not getting signal but to my good luck the housekeeper was still at the hotel and made sure all was in order before she left. I was rolling down the Five Portland to Palm Springs on a Monday night so the village restaurants I'd read about were not open . The kids at the pizza shop next door fixed me up with a decent pie so all was fine. I'll do the proper weekend stay here one of these days. read more
