Positives first: large room with comfortable beds. Very nice wood floors. Large window in the bathroom that provides enough ventilation for the whole space. Convenient location if you're planning to walk around Mt. Shasta town. Good coffee shop on the first floor.
Negatives: There was a big window in the bedroom, looking out onto a parking lot and the street. (There's a peekaboo view of Mt. Eddy over this streetview. Pics on the website show this window don't really convey how it sort of urban looks if you're standing up by the beds.) There's no curtain on the window, only an electrically controlled blackout shade. A note on the control seemed to say it would only go up all the way or down all the way. So no privacy at all except it the shade was 100% closed. No light unless the shade was 100% open. Seemed like either cost-saving or maybe they haven't got around to proper window coverings yet.
Bathroom layout: it was a big bathroom, but mostly unused. One wall mostly taken up by a large bathtub, and next to it a small one-sink vanity separated by a plumbing wall. (Picture on web page showing sink and bathtub is done with a wide angle lens and makes sink seem larger than it was in person relative to bathtub.) So, there was very limited space for a couple to have room for bathroom gear like toothbrushes, hair products, deodorant etc. There was plenty of room for some shelves, but none were provided.
There was a small refrigerator which was pretty warm when we arrived. We had some provisions that needed to be kept cold, so we turned it up. It was very noisy, giving off a bubbling sound most of the night. Seemed to be a pretty inexpensive fridge, but still, perhaps the sound might have been helped if they kept it cold for arriving guests rather than left it to us to listen as it ran late into the night to cool down.
In the hallway there was some sort of water dispenser that had a sign on it saying it was out of order. Also it mentioned that Mount Shasta tap water is some of the best, which I am inclined to believe. But nobody could be bothered to leave even disposable cups in our room, much less a glass. (Or if there was one, it was somewhere we couldn't find it). Only disposable cups by the water machine in the hall, for the delightful Mount Shasta tap water?
Finally, an annoyance not the fault of the inn. There's no overnight parking allowed on the block where it's located or around the corner. (The inn makes this clear on their website, although it says only 15 minute parking outside the inn, while it's actually 2 hour parking up to 6 pm, with towing threatened if you park 2-6 am.) It was a deterrent for us, not from the inn, but from the town of Mount Shasta. I mean, it's a location pretty much available by car, but visitors are not allowed to park next to a locally owned inn? But allowed to park a long block away? If this is to prevent people from sleeping in cars it doesn't make much sense. Anyway, made me feel like Mount Shasta town isn't exactly visitor friendly. So we'll stop in a different town next time on our way through. read more
