One of the best contractors I've encountered for the front yard work. My neighbor had his front yard done last year and I saw how clean the workers kept his place during construction of a retaining wall. So, I asked him for a phone number of the owner - Noe. My project started relatively small. I wanted a retaining wall done on my front yard. I called Noe. He was available to come and quote the job within a day. His quote was very reasonable. I even felt like the quote was similar to pre-pandemic prices. So I hired his team to do the work. As I watched how he manages the team - Noe was working alongside his team every day - I decided to expand my project and have my entire front yard re-done. At the end - I had a retaining wall built, with a niche for garbage bins, added concrete to expand the driveway, installed irrigation system throughout the front yard, purchased plants and had Noe's team plant it for me, added mulch everywhere, decorative stones, and had a few small jobs done on the backyard. Everything was done quickly, and without any disappointment or dissatisfaction on my end. I used to managing my previous contractors closely as they tend to screw up often, forget what needs to be done, damage what's already there, or disappear for days or weeks without prior notice. Noe had the project under control. I didn't have to manage him or his team. His team was well aware of what to do, and Noe was great at communicating with me what was done and what is left to do. We have been working with Carrisal for more than a year. They take care of our front and back yard. They are the first landscaping company that we are fully happy with. Do not work with this company. I had to reach out 3 times to try to get Noe to come and give a quote. Now confirmed the date and time and I let he (or she, I'm not sure the Gender so I won't assume) know that I would be working but my sister would be there to let them in and measure and give information for the estimate. They were late. Actually 45 minutes after they were supposed to arrive to the house, someone who couldn't speak English showed and said he needed his boss to be there to give a quote. (Why even show up then?) Then I emailed Noe back a few hours later asking when he/she would come and I got a stupid response you can see in the pics. My sister was letting them in to measure, ask questions and provide a preliminary quote (because she lives in the house and can provide all of that info) but Noe apparently doesn't know how business, money, or respect work. Hey Noe, why would you send someone who can't give a quote but turn around and say you don't give quotes to people who can't authorize them. Don't work with this company. They are idiots. Noe is a rare find- especially today with so many service providers over-saturated with clients. Recently, in addition to providing care to our front yard and garden, his team has executed three major projects beautifully. First, were cracks in the stucco and slate stairs as well as grout that had deteriorated significantly in the last 23 years. He timed the work perfectly for the team in the midst of our recent storm system. They were thorough and restored the front steps to their original condition. Their work also stopped leaks into the cellar which was a big source of worry. The second was a tough project of clearing out overgrown shrubs which began to damage the fence. In addition, there were a large number of dead branches that were difficult to remove. The third was a Juniper Tree that had grown to be as tall as the house which is three stories high. His brother worked meticulously to transform it from an unwieldy-looking bush to a beautiful bonsai. Noe's brother Jose who did this work is an artist. It was clear he has tremendous pride in his work. In all three projects, the work took numerous hours and required meticulous cleaning afterward. The team did this beautifully. They did not rush or cut corners and they made sure they left the areas they worked on in pristine condition. Noe, the owner of the company, personally came to not only make sure they did excellent work but also helped with the work. He clearly cares about his team and that translates to excellent service. It is our first landscaping project, so we asked for bids from different contractors. We chose Noe Carrisal because he offered a mid-range price compared to the others and responded timely to our inquiry. Noe was easy to talk to at first, but as we progressed with the project, it became challenging and frustrating. I want to be fair in my review and wanted others to not commit the same issues we experienced if ever you decide to hire him. Noe gave a quote to do pavers and artificial grass on our backyard. We asked if he can include the front yard in the quote, which he agreed to do but requested we buy the materials separately for the frontyard. He also offered us to put aside any junk/trash we have, which he will dump together with the yard trash they gather from breaking down some wooden planters and a tree stump. His crew is very hardworking, efficient and skilled. They are very polite too. But as for Noe, our interactions got frustrating. It started when he asked us to pick the type of pavers. We selected a specific color, but was told it was not available so he had to pick another one. He then asked us to select the type of artificial grass, but when he got to the supplier, he told us that our selection was not available so we had to choose another one. He pressed us to make a decision right away by just sending us a photo. We decided to research on the difference of the type of grass. We found out that our selection is $5/sq ft vs. what he forced us to pick, which is only $2/ sq ft. It was too late when we found out. It came to a point that we just wanted to finish the job. So, when it came to the front yard, we purchased all the materials ourselves except for the turf grass and sand bags, which he has bought already together with the materials for the backyard. Before installation, he gave us a receipt for reimbursement showing 20 sand bags and the turf grass. Before paying for the materials he purchased, out of curiosity, we asked his crew how many sanbags are used at the front yard. They said that they only used 10 of them. The rest are for the backyard , which are already included in the cost. This confirmed that Noe has been cutting costs in the project while trying to charge us for what we have already paid. True enough, a few days before the project was over, he handed us a receipt from Recology. He said that we had to pay $300 for the extra dump. We argued that he previously mentioned that it is all part of his quote and willingly offered us to put other trash. We included wood from a chicken coop and an old cabinet. He insisted that he will only pay for one truck, and our other trash needed a second truck. We didn't know if this is even true. We felt that he was not straightforward and wasn't willing to work with us. He mostly did the project based on what he thinks. Nonetheless, our mistake is not discussing the details that are part of the project. Our project got done, nothing special about it. But, we are not happy customers. Hope this helps. read more

I appreciated timeliness in coming out. I desire to keep several (4) areas of my property green and therefore required irrigation of some sort. 3 fairly large areas (over 100ft x 100 and 2 others slightly smaller. Additionally wanted a decent sized lawn as yard space to our Poolhouse. I decided to do area of most importance to check out work ethics & workmanship. We had totally already cleaned the space for new sod and sprinklers. It appeared measurements were carefully obtained. Where I live the water is pumped in from neighboring city and thus extremely expensive - so efficiency is a must. Work began, and sod was beautifully laid. New sprinklers and new valve installed. Within 3 or 4 days a few sections of sod were clearly dying. They returned to install more sod and replace the sprinkler head for one with wider radius. Appeared fine for another 4 or 5 days - same sections of grass died and reported with pictures again. This time no response from company. Now the valve is continuously leaking (cha-ching$$$$). So initially great response time, but now very disappointed. Soooo many projects and such limited funding doesn't allow for More money to REPEAT same project over again! Glad we decided on the one area to start. Evaluated by another company who stated the leaking valve is about the cheapest you can buy...and known for their ineffectiveness (to those in the business)... further disappointment for I chose this company based on the yelp ratings... Carrisal built and stained a cedar fence, removed a rotting trunk, built a retaining wall, extracted a large podocarpus destroying my foundation, and most importantly installed a decomposed granite backyard for low-water, Marin friendly garden. I must agree with Randolph H. that monitoring of decisions was required, but that reflects his focus on the work, as well as his very reasonable price.
