Okay so the bottom line is I am happy with the new flooring & installation from Carpet 46. From the first phone call Luke was personable and accommodating to my needs. His estimate was not the best I received but he was a good salesman and made me feel comfortable. I have one more floor to be done and even though I was happy with Luke the first time I will not use his services for the second job. Pros: Ultimately a good job was done by the installers. He knows good people and subcontracts well. Cons: He did not respect my concern for over calculation and now I have way too much material left over. The thing is not only did I pay for extra material I did not need but the installation price was based on that extra material as well. He tries to make you believe the installation crew is his own. When in fact they come in a van with another name and shirts of another name. And if you call the number on the van, you can hire them. So they are obviously sub-contractors that he doesn't want to admit to for some reason. The crew does not speak English except for one guy who comes and goes during the installation. So I was left with guys I could not communicate with most of the time. I would have liked to see Luke at some point during or even upon completion of the job but he never showed up. Just a phone call at the end of the day. Final payment was given to the only English-speaking worker. Going with Carpets 46 would not be a bad choice. It could be a great choice? This is one of my first ever Yelp review. Luke and his team were fantastic. When we initially visited Luke, he gave us his full attention. Listened carefully regarding our carpet needs and budget and only showed us carpeting that would fit with both. Luke was flexible and understanding as we shifted our install date around a few times. Now the carpet is in our NYC apartment and we could not be happier. No damage done by the install and our painter did not have to return for any touch ups (our contractor informed us that touch ups are typical). A truly first class team that Luke put together and there is definitely a reason his business maintains its stellar reputation. My family had bought a house 12 yrs ago and the house came with these ugly hard tile brown and yellow floors that had a design that looked as if the dog had just come in from the yard and had stepped all over the floor. It had always bothered us. We also had a very run down and old carpet all over the 2nd floor and the main steps leading up to the 2nd floor. This summer we finally had the opportunity to do something about it. My parents went to Carpets 46 and after explaining the problem and having Luke come in and see the house several solutions were suggested. The family chose to go with laminate flooring. Luke took the time to listen to the family and answer all questions and calm any concerns the family had with putting laminate flooring over that ugly tile floor. He also "held our hands" through every phase of the work explaining what would happen at every step and what we needed to do to be prepared for when they came. He also called the home at several points throughout the installation work to make sure we were satisfied with the work that was being done by his guys. When it was time for the crew to come in and begin to work they were nothing less than 100% courteous, respectful, friendly and above all extremely skilled. These guys were consummate pros who knew exactly what they were doing. When they started to rip up the carpet on the 2nd floor they ran into unexpected problems finding stuff underneath that old carpet (old phone and electrical wires, holes in the old wood etc.) that we didn't even know was there. We were presented with several options as to how the crew could deal with the situation.The men did nothing without asking for our input and permission. We also had a situation with the main stairs. We had asked Carpets 46 to rip up the carpet on the stairs and sand, stain, and polish (varnish) the old wood stairs underneath. The men started their job on the stairs but midway through the long process (it takes several days to sand, stain, apply multiple coats of varnish, let it dry etc.) my parents changed their mind. The old wood stairs were very ugly and in some places were chipped and on top of that they were very hard and unforgiving and my mother started to get pain in her knees after going up the stairs once the stain on the stairs had dried over the weekend. We got in contact with Luke who immediately understood the situation. He was able to work with us and apply the monies that would have gone towards completing the work on the stairs towards putting in a beautiful new plush carpet on the main stairs that would go well with the color of the cherry laminate. The cost difference that we had to put in out of our pocket wound up being minimal and fair. Thanks to Carpets 46 our home now has beautiful, easy to clean, cherry laminate on the 1st and second floors as well as a wonderful new cushiony carpet on the stairs that makes it possible for my mother to go up and down the stairs without any knee problems. These guys come with a 100% recommendation. Do not hesitate to call them for your home flooring project! Like most of the other reviews here, I contacted Carpets 46 after seeing their Yelp reviews. We needed lots of carpeting - over 5,000 square feet across 3 floors and multiple rooms in my house. Ended up going with these guys after spending almost 2 hours with Luke in their showroom. Pros: -Luke is about as accessible as it gets. He came over to my house literally the morning after he got back from his honeymoon to do the measurements. I've since traded several dozen emails with him with questions, changes, updates, etc. and he usually responds within a few hours, if not sooner, 7 days a week. -Luke is quite knowledgeable about carpeting to say the least. After knowing nothing about carpets and spending a couple hours with him, we were able to pick out the type of carpets, colors, and pads that we needed for each room. He also has an uncommon sense for detail. For example, when he came to do the measurements he told me that we needed to remove some floorboards in our basement to install the carpets properly. Two months later when we were ready to install, I vaguely remembered that he had said something about floorboards and emailed him for a clarification. He knew right away what I was talking about and explained again what I had to do, after only having seen my house once. -We had a compressed timeline between the day we closed on the house and the day we were planning to move in, but they were able to order and install all of the carpeting within that timeframe. Furthermore, we were renovating our basement and couldn't put carpet in for several weeks. That was not a problem as they were perfectly fine holding my carpets and waiting until we were ready to do the installation. -The quality of the work is good and turned out exactly as specified. The workers left the carpets looking even and clean, and no trace of their presence after the job was done. Cons: -Showroom is not easily accessible by public transportation so you would need a car to visit. However it was worth the trip for us because we were able to talk to Luke in person and try out all of the different carpets. -Not really a con, but we didn't shop around to other vendors before choosing Carpets 46, so I'm not sure how their prices compare to others. I'm guessing we probably could've paid less if we had gone with a discount carpeter or wholesaler, but we went with Carpets 46 because of the high touch, personalized service and positive reviews. Carpet installation seems like something that can be easily screwed up and difficult to repair, so we wanted to go with someone that was reputable, trustworthy, and accessible during every step of the process. read more
