My favorite food quote comes to mind: "off da charts good, papi"...unsure how to say that in Italian. This is seriously good Italian food, among the best I've had in the world, and certainly the best in Florida. It's a high price point (Caprese salad $22, basic veggie penne $24, chicken marsala $30), but IMHO worth every penny. My dad always says "eat in Italian restaurants that a Mafia boss has been shot inside, because those guys can afford the best"...There have been no mob shootings in Carpaccio, but for this insanely good food, bring a mobster's wad of cash. The socialites do "slay" with their designer wardrobes though (a woman we briefly chatted with while waiting to be seated had a sapphire ring wider than her finger, to match her royal blue Chanel suit : ) Ambience here is a cross between Old World style and New World Maserati. The interior is done up like a Venetian palazzo with coffered ceilings, gilding and panoramic Venice scenes. Everything, even the seating, is tasteful and posh. The scrum of Maseratis waiting to valet, and the general opulence of Bal Harbour Shops add even more glamor to the place outside. Outdoor seating can be a little noisy, so recommend the quieter indoor seating. Service is absolutely impeccable. From the front desk, to the wine steward, to the server, everyone was friendly, fast and helpful. They don't take reservations, so expect to wait about 30 minutes or longer. They have both indoor and outdoor dining. The food is authentic Italian. They have vegetarian options available too. My grandfather ate at Carpaccio almost every night for 15 years when it first opened so I spent a lot of time there. I ordered Linguini Selvaggio, it came warm, also mozzarella cold. Then dessert, 2. Both soufflés, one of Dulce de Leche and the other Chocolate, also cold. Everything was terrible. As seasoned hospitality professionals, my family and I were profoundly disappointed with our recent visit to Carpaccio. Having been repeating customers for several years, the decline in service has become apparent, finding us in an experience that left us questioning the establishment's standards. Our one-hour wait, the lack of reservation options, and witnessing preferential treatment for select patrons set the tone for the evening. Seated outdoors in 60-degree weather, our simple request to turn on the heater three feet away from us, was met with reluctance from the server. The subsequent encounter with the manager, Gabriel, was disheartening, marked by dismissive behavior and a sarcastic response to our discomfort. Despite there being a very clear and simple resolution to the heating issue, we found ourselves going back and forth to simply have the manager Gabriel come speak to us about the heater situation. Our server, Anastasia, exhibited non-existent service, openly engaging in gossip with colleagues. This lack of professionalism continued until we requested our bill. She came over with her terminal and processed my card and then proceeded to flip the screen in my face and show a gratuity section of 18%, 20%, 25% and Other. We decided to leave $25, as we are all in the service industry and understand bad nights happen. However, she then proceeded to tell us that the service charge is not included and that we tipped her 8% vs the recommended percentages on the receipts. At first I was under the impression she didn't see me leave a tip of anything on the receipt but then my brother pointed out that she was actually telling me my tip wasn't enough and to leave more. It was very frustrating and unprofessional, considering the lack of care from the management and our server. We ended up leaving the 18% and left the restaurant. For those seeking a high standard environment, Carpaccio, unfortunately, falls short. It's regrettable to witness the decline of a once reputable establishment. read more

As a fan of Italian food and great views, I always have enjoyed Carpaccio. Located in the sophisticated Bal Harbor shops, the service lives up to the clientele they attract. So kind, accommodating and on point from the moment you reach the hostess stand. Having experienced both indoor, outdoor and bar seating, each area has its own energy. We sat outside since the rain let up on this Saturday morning and while lovely and a good sign to see the just opened restaurant fill up around I do have to mention mosquitoes! Being so close to the beach and fresh after some fall rain, we def we're getting bitten up. Approached for water right away, I can tell the steps of service and fine dining etiquette is part of their service culture which I appreciated. Always approached for Parmesan and fresh pepper as well. We had the Ceasar salad to start and they were kind enough to separate plates for us. Iceberg lettuce is easily forgettable in general, the dressing is creamy though without the hint of anchovy flavor Id expect from a high end restaurant, just my opinion. The salad's croutons were the most outstanding touch- seasoned and flavorful it was the most memorable part of our starter. It was tasty and an appropriate portion- not exactly special in any way though. The unsweetened ice tea was refreshing with a hint of lemon and Splenda. I had the fettuccini Alfredo with a side of blacked salmon as the entree. Pasta was Al dente and the sauce a thick smooth and creamy texture. With the fresh pepper and a hint of salt it was satisfying. The salmon was seasoned and cooked to perfection, a large piece with plenty leftover by the end of the pasta. We were also given a basket of warmed cut baguette which was great with their olive oil, balsamic vinaigrette and to dip in any sauce. We came for a spontaneous casual lunch since our plans changed because of the rain and I completely forgot photos. It might also be because the plates were simple looking and arranged in a no frills manner. I enjoy Carpaccio for their no frills high quality service and presentation. After enjoying a nice dinner at Makoto on the 3rd floor, we decided to try Carpaccio for dessert and coffee. Our friend lives in the area and has very fond memories of this restaurant - that's the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars (in addition to the waitress - see below). Our experience started a little strange. We walked to the hostess stand, which was empty. The hostess came up within the minute and asked us to wait while she was trying to communicate with someone over a walkie-talkie. It was awkward while we all stood there and she was looking down the mall aisle while waiting for someone to respond over the device. She eventually sat us a couple minutes later. When seated, we were upfront and told them we just wanted dessert and coffee. Well, the waiter wasn't too happy and seemed annoyed by that. I could understand this if it was a busy night with a line of customers waiting who wanted to order a 2, 3, 4+ course dinner, but that wasn't the case - there wasn't a line of waiting customers. They don't have a dessert menu - or at least not one the waiter shared with us. He rambled off the desserts - a long long long list - super fast. We asked him to repeat as it felt like they all merged together. He intentionally went super slower - too slow - the next time, and he even added more than what he said the first time. Finally, we just settled on some things and ordered. He didn't write anything down then had to come back to the table to ask us for our order again because he didn't remember it. Also - no beverage menu was provided for after-dinner drink options, which could've been an upsell if he would've given us that. The food and drinks came out and were delicious. The waitress that was helping our waiter was super friendly and nice. She provided excellent customer service. At the end of the dessert, our waiter brought the ticket and I was ready to immediately pay and leave so I just gave him my card. He laid it on the ticket holder and said he would be right back. He assisted another table then came back with an iPad for payment. Overall - this place gets 3 stars from me due to: (1) the nostalgic memories were good for our friend and (2) the waitress helping our waiter was amazing at customer service skills. The food and coffee was pretty good - but for me, the lack of standard customer service from our waiter set the tone. After spending $80+ on dessert and coffee (still with a good tip regardless of his demeanor towards us because he was still working to service our table), I expected way more in the customer service experience for this place. read more
