I ordered a cake for my 25th anniversary. We had our wedding cake from them years ago so I thought it would be nice since they are still in business. The cake looked great when we got it, however, after we took it out of the box the icing on the side began to run and expose the cake. Then when we cut into it the top layer began to shift because of the gel filling and the cake basically just fell apart. In my opinion there was way too much filling in it. Also, the buttercream was not very thick or sweet like other buttercreams I'm used to. I sent them a note on Facebook Messenger and instead of apologizing they just doubled down that they didn't do anything wrong and said that the cake probably got too warm. Delicious, light ricotta frosting with mini chocolate chips. Perfection! She comes up with unique but amazing flavors. We've had the lemon mascarpone, and macerated peach.. YUM! If you need to come up with a dessert to bring to a friends house, get a half or full dozen cupcakes in a variety of flavors and you'll be the hit of the gathering. I was impressed as soon as we went for our cake tasting she had 3 different flavors boxed up and ready to try and I had such a hard time choosing because they were all so delicious. I am 100% the person who passes up on cake. I hate the over sweetness of the hole suger pouring into your blood stream. But... my sister had one of these cakes made for my nephews birthday last year. And wow! It's the icing. Never tasted anything so yummy in my life. It's not too sweet, just a perfect! She bought an entire sheet cake for his birthday, a quarter of it was ate by family, and 3 quarters of it by me. Me going overboard on a sugary sweet is a phenomenon. It has to be good! read more

We've been going here for the past ten years for cakes for special events since we first ordered a cake from them for our wedding but after what happened this time we're going to be using another bakery in the future. Ordered a cake for our daughters birthday and it did look nice like always. Wife placed it in the back of our car and came home. Took the cake out of the car while we all got ready for the party. Noticed it leaning a little and thought nothing of it. Loaded it back in the car and headed on our way to the venue. When we arrived the top tier of the cake had fallen off on small section of the bottom, ruining the cake. Checking the cake over it was obvious that the bottom tier was already damaged and they iced over it anyway instead of remaking the bottom tier right. On top of that we never even mentioned coconut shavings anywhere on the cake yet the top of the first tier had them under the second tier. My wife clearly upset called them and instead of any apologies or anything like that the only response she got was " Well it was sturdy when you left." The people at the venue tried to fix it as best they could and at least they tried to make my daughters day as good as possible. The people at carols cakes clearly didn't and have lost a long time customer. You'd figure at the prices they charge they'd be a little more focused on keeping their long term customers happy so word got out to others to give them more business but oh well over 100 people at the party saw and agreed that the bottom tier was already damaged and they just iced it anyway. So that's 100 people who'll be going elsewhere for their cakes. read more

Carol made the cake for my wedding last year - 06-22-2013. SHE WAS TERRIBLE! 1) I ordered a cream, ivory, or off-white cake and it turned out pink of all colors! 2) the cake tiers were supposed to tapor to the bottom like some of her other cakes. she never supported the cake as it should have been and the top two layers slid off the bottom layer... 3) the center tier was supposed to be covered in piped gerbera daisies....it had a SINGLE DAISY right in the center. instead, she takes the fresh flowers that i had on the cake table for the table's decoration and places the flowers on the cake to make up for it...without confirming this with me or my husband and after she was told by my sister-in-law who was at the reception site checking on last minute details that the flowers were NOT for the cake....NOT OK! 4) the anniversary cake, we were told that it was wrapped properly and ready to be frozen. what they called "wrapped" was a single sheet of wax paper placed on top of the cake. 5) She was very unprofessional. we saw her once and tried calling her to set up payments or however it was supposed to go, she never once called us back. instead, we just hand her the money the week before the cake was to be delivered and called it good. 6) she called my husband the MORNING OF THE WEDDING AT 1AM to talk about the delivery of the cake, after it was explained to her the day we spoke with her. if they were working on the cake at 1am, why wasnt it as we asked for and paid $600 for???? 7) we called and emailed MULTIPLE times after the wedding to complain and speak with her...she never called or emailed back. I've always dreamed about my wedding cake...and she completely ruined the most anticipated part of my wedding for me. and now, a year later, she is messing up the anniversary i had planned. she hasnt returned my calls STILL. she is horrible and doesnt deserve to be in business if this is how she conducts herself. I may seem neurotic about some of these. but we were paying her to follow the directions we gave her and she completely ignored everything. read more

My niece graduated from Pharmacy School on 5/28/2017 and I ordered a Pill cake from Carol's Cakes. The were so helpful because I currently live in Florida. The cake was beautifully done. My niece and everyone else there loved how moist the cake was and how the Pharmacy designs were perfect. Now that my family know how delicious the cakes are, I am sure they will be ordering more. I am new to the area and was in need of a cake for my son's birthday. After hearing good things about Carol's Cakes I decided to give them a try. I do not mind paying more for a custom cake ($55.00) because usually the end result is a great tasting cake. However that was not the case here, in fact the cake really had very little flavor and to make matters worse the fudge filling was spread so thin that it was almost unnoticeable. The butter cream frosting was O.K., but certainly similar to any other bakery. I did give my rating 2 stars only because the cake was pretty to look at. Maybe they were having an off day when my cake was made, but I probably will not order from there again. read more

It was good fortune that I met Carol at the Open House held by The DoubleTree-Pittsburgh Airport. While chatting with her and explaining that my daughter was unable to attend, Carol filled up a bag of cake samples in a variety of flavors. That evening we (my daughter, her fiance, and myself) did a taste testing...and loved them all!!!! Every slice was moist and had perfect flavor and texture.
