I am glad I tried this as I am hooked to this place now. I have gone back here three weekends in a row to try different things. On my first visit, I tried chicken roti wrap and oxtails with rice, cabbage and peas. They were both so delicious. The portions were great. Lasted for 4 meals. Definitely get the hot sauce on the side. Adds nice kick to it if you like it extra spicy. The next time I ordered buss up roti with oxtail stew and buss up roti with lamb stew. They both come with chicken peas and potato curry. Blend so well together. So delicious. Kinda addicting. It's a small place to dine in. They have about 5 tables. I recommend take out. Servers are great. They have so much patience in explaining some of their dishes if you're new to the Caribbean cuisine.

It's something that's only available from 7:00-11:00am on weekends, and I'm usually sleeping in or just not ready to get out of the house that early. My family and I were leaving for NY early on a Saturday morning, and I had no choice but to be awake and ready. So before we took off, I took advantage! It was around 8:30am and I was the only one in the restaurant. But it smelled amazing in there and they were friendly and happy! I had glimpsed the menu online, and I was scanning their screens for it above the register, but they had their regular menu up. I was walked through the options, and even got to taste a few things. I got to try sa\da roti for the first time, and I was intrigued. It's very similar to pita bread, but after looking it up I learned of the subtle differences. I was able to put pumpkin, smoked herring, saltfish, or eggplant & potatoes in it. I got food for my parents as well, so I settled on quite a few things: -Sada roti w/ pumpkin -Sada roti w/ eggplant/potatoes -Bake & saltfish -3 aloo pies Everything... was... STELLAR. I tasted the smoked herring and I honestly wish I got that in something, but I most certainly will next time. Is this the best Trini restaurant in the DMV?!

I mean there was only another couple at the time I visited but also the food came out quickly so huge plus! And the restaurant is spacious and casual so enough space for large parties. Overall I enjoyed it but there are a couple things that fell short! I ordered the chicken roti platter. 1.The roti! It's a very small portion served in a small coconut shaped bowl compared to the amount of food you got on the platter. I thought more was coming and unfortunately it was balled up in shredded little pieces that were kind of dry and i couldn't eat it properly with my sides. I thought maybe I had a bad batch but my friend had the same portion and complaint. Unfortunately no pic of that. 2: Honestly the plating is meant to be aesthetically pleasing but it was very hard to eat bone-in chicken out of a bowl on a saucer full of more bowls with a knife and fork. It was better when I took it to go and had a plate at home. Please reconsider this for the diners experience. 3. The doubles was my fave! It's a small app but very delicious and had a slight kick to it.

I ordered their combo platter with the whole lot of their curry entree offerings (oxtail, chicken, shrimp). The platter was definitely enough for a double meal, but I was hungry so it went down quite readily. You'd probably get better value ordering regular platters (based on sides and rice), but the combo was a good way to sample all of them for my solitary self. Food quality is definitely there in spades. The whole thing smelled delicious on the way up my elevator and it was an explosion of flavor in my mouth. The pilaf was just perfect to go along with the curries that I could not describe (but trust me, it was good). The plantains and cabbage were solid sides to go with the main course and were cooked to perfection. Now if only they came to my locale more often...

I was craving real…read morehome cooked Caribbean food, the Sunday spread from my Trini childhood: rice & peas, mac & cheese, callaloo, stewed chicken. You know, home. Nearly a year in DC, and every expensive or hole-di-wall Caribbean spot had been a disappointment. So my expectations were low. I walk in while my fiancé waits in the car. Downstairs of the restaurant looks dead, empty cases, one guy at a register. I ask about roti. "No, but check the buffet upstairs." I go up and, wow. A full spread that made me want to cry happy tears. Felt like walking into your grandmother's dining room on Sunday. The owner, Jennifer, walks me through everything. I literally run back downstairs. The man looks at me: "You might wanna call your husband." I did. "Park the car. We're staying." He protested. I won. Best decision ever. The walls were covered in photos paired with classic Caribbean song titles, Kas's "Savannah Grass" and others. The music, the accents of other patrons, every detail screamed nostalgia. I was home. The food: white rice, rice & peas, proper Caribbean mac and cheese (not that cheese-bomb American style), perfect callaloo, stewed red beans, jerk-chicken, stew-chicken (too sweet for me, but well-made), plantains (some a touch too green), appetizers :fried & roast bakes, salt fish, smoked herring and chickpeas salad, Drinks: mango, orange, nectar and champagne for DIY mimosas. Here's the real magic though: we met this incredible couple, the Butts, and stayed three hours just talking and laughing. A quick takeout run turned into one of those unexpectedly perfect Sundays. Sunday brunch: $39.99 per person. Now we know where to find home in DC. If you're missing real Sunday's island food, skip downstairs and go straight up.

I feel like we generally have way more Jamaican food than Trini food around here (and even less of other islands), so it's a nice addition. If I wanted to I could walk / jog there, but otherwise it's a 5 minute drive. It's on a corner in Roosevelt Center where an Asian restaurant used to be. Even up until now, I see the Trini flags everywhere, and there are some pictures that still haven't been hung up. Sometimes they play music in there, and sometimes they don't -- I wish they'd play it all the time, because otherwise it can get oddly quiet in there. As for the food... 90% of the time I go is for their Sunday buffet. It's less than $30 for an all you can eat (AYCE) that includes plantain, chicken, fish, desserts, and some fantastic vegan dishes that are labeled as such. They have a whole vegan menu, in fact. And it's lovely to see all those on top of traditional Trinidadian options. When they first opened, they only served doubles and certain other things on weekends -- not sure if that's still the case, but they had signage to indicate that. By the way, I love their doubles. The buffet is the perfect way for me to unwind on Sundays, but I should try exploring other times, haha. I feel like a Caribbean restaurant in Old Greenbelt is a first, and I'm delighted to see the representation. Room for improvement: keep the drinks stocked during buffet, and there have been instances where no one is at the front and I've seen people waiting for a bit, sometimes impatiently. Perhaps add a bell to ring?

It's got the right balance of the bazillion ingredients that go into jerk, and also, it's been rested properly, making a deeply flavorful marinade rather than one which is overly peppery.
