If this place has the best "carnitas" in Yuma, then I would recommend you go to a different city. All skin and no meat in their "favorite dish" bellow is the half pound carnitas plate. After entering the restaurant, there was nobody to attend us, so we took a menu ourselves to decide on what to eat. This resulted in an angry employee complaining to take a seat and leave her manus alone. The next server was in better in attitude but then she served us some old chips and water down salsa that we didn't asked for but had to pay at the end regardless. The "Birria" tasted more like boiled meat than anything. The place smells like a old western cantina and that was just the beginning of the overall cleanliness of the place. This place is in the Cal ranch shopping center. I came in on a in between lunch and dinner and was quickly greeted and sat. The carnitas plate is served with chips, salsa, lime wedges + fresh tortillas on the side. It's a little crunchy on some bits and tasty. Six people shared two pounds of carnitas and it was really good and plenty of food. They let you know that it takes awhile for you to get your food, and it did! Any trip to Yuma is incomplete without having lunch or dinner at Carnitas El Taste! Today was no exception. I met MariaLuisa, the owner's daughter. She welcomed me upon entering & also was my server. She was dressed in a beautiful, culturally accurate Mexican dress, not some cheap copy like you see in many Mexican food restaurants. We spoke at length about her attire and the beautiful murals she herself painted on the restaurant walls. On a side note: she told me she painted the mural at Mr. G's, depicting the history of Yuma. I'll have to stop there next trip to see more of MariaLuisa's artwork, but I'm still dining at Carnitas El Taste! So, back to my review. I had the carnitas lunch plate which was absolutely delicious, as always. Fresh, hot tortillas accompanied the delicious arroz & refried frijoles. I would be remiss if I didn't praise the FANTASTIC flan with fresh blueberries. Thought I died & went to heaven. The flan is homemade, not commercially processed. So, so YUMMY. A personal note to MariaLuisa - thank you so much for the special gift. It is beautiful. I admire your artistry and deep love of your heritage. God's blessings on you and your family. Menudo called comes with a small bowl of onions and cilantro...no salsa,oregano or red pepper usually served. I asked for red pepper and oregano. The t cane salad n tiny plastic wrapped packages tied in a knot that was impossible to untie. I asked for flour tortillas but was served corn. read more

We stopped in here yesterday wanting to get a quick snack. We were blown away by the delicious food! We started out with what they put on the table, which is salsa, pico de gallo, and some tortilla chips. The pico de gallo is very different from what I experienced in eastern North Carolina. Look at my picture to see what I mean. It was very good though! I loved topping the tortilla chip with pico, salsa, and the guacamole we ordered. The walk amole is another topic... It is definitely different from what I have experienced as well. It is more liquidy. Still delicious though. We also ordered the birria with refried beans and rice. To make it all come together one should definitely get the homemade corn tortillas! They are awesome! When it was all said and done we paid about $14 and left full. Cons They are a little slow but they have signs up saying so and its for sure worth the wait since they make each meal fresh. Wish they would give you more chips and salsa. Menu is small but delicious. We had carnitas tacos with chips and salsa for a quick bite on our way from Phoenix to San Diego. Extremely reasonable prices. Even sells carnitas by the pound. Service was great but the food was terrible. They don't have any mild sauce for their nachos for people like me who can't eat spicy food. I asked and the gal brought it to our table but it was hotter than the original sauce she brought with the nachos! I ordered enchiladas El pollo. There were 3 small ones on the plate, wrapped in what looked like corn tortillas. The sauce was very runny and it saturated the enchiladas which made it very soggy. There was very little chicken - mostly tortillas and "sauce" (soup?). And speaking of soup...the re-fried beans were just that - like a soupy mess with a few real beans (maybe three?). The only good thing was the rice and the two small tomato slices (although pretty soft in texture). Even the lettuce thrown on top was brown on the edges and was mostly the "white" part of the head. We saw the reviews and thought we would try this place. The monster pastor burrito was edible. Chicken enchiladas were not that good. We stopped at Carl's to grab a sandwich since he didn't eat all of his enchiladas and was hungry. The main reason for the review is that the gave 3 guys who just got of work 7 chips. Asked for more and was told we would have to pay for the low grade store chips. I was brought 5 chips charged 1.99. I asked when she brought 5 chips if I was paying for just 5 chips. We've eaten here four times this month, and haven't been disappointed yet. The first evening we went for chile rellenos, and they were sold out. We settled for the carnitas plate. The meat was delicious, and served with very good refried beans and rice. We've had both the corn and flour tortillas, and they're both homemade and excellent. We went back for rellenos, and they're excellent. Deep fried in an egg batter and served with a tasty tomato pepper sauce. Friendly, if somewhat absent service and a decent margarita. Just tried a this Mexican restaurant in my neighborhood . NOT GOOD !!! Ordered the Macho Burrito add cheese.....no cheese, barley warm. Also ordered a side of chips and salsa.....but did not get them. The waitress assured me everything was in the bag......stupid me...I didn't check.. I live very close and when I called to complain, she said...."Oh we didn't have any chips, but they just delivered some, you can come and pick them up".!!! Staying nearby; thought we'd try this restaurant. I asked about the nopales as I had never seen it or tried it. The waitress brought me a small sample, that I found to be delicious. I ordered the carnitas plate with nopales (prickly pear cactus). Absolutely loved it! The Mrs had the chili relleno (her usual order where ever). She approved. The handmade corn tortillas were excellent. Menu photos don't show but beer and margaritas are available. The down side was the waitress was less than attentive. read more
