He is super attentive, responding to emails quickly and with service requests promptly. The management has gone out of their way to make sure I'm happy with this newer apartment. If I could give this company a negative star I would. The pandemic hit me hard. Before I had a good job with a good hourly pay. Pandemic hit had to take a pay cut and was struggling to keep up with my bills. Then I got injured on top of that and had to get surgery so that right there took another major blow to me financially. I told this company my situation and they didn't care one bit. They gave me $200 off one month only. I told them I'm moving out getting a place that I can afford and I will continue paying them just give me some time. I was put in a situation that I could not handle. They didn't care they told me they would take legal action if I didn't pay by the end of July. These people are terrible people and should it be in business. read more

I lived at 462 Keap St. for 4 years 2013-2017. It was a very pleasant experience. The building was well maintained and the lobby/garbage rooms were cleaned daily. Jose the maintenance guy is the best! He was always very responsive/friendly and very sweet with my dog. I signed up for Yelp just to respond to Scott S.'s review: I am sorry you had a bad experience but you can't speak for all the tenants at the Clocktower. I have lived there since 2009 and have had nothing but a great experience. When I first moved in, someone moving out came by to warn me about the building. I don't know what their issue is but I've had no complaints. Over the last three years, Carnegie has made many improvements. Here are some examples: 1) The land behind the building used to be filled with rocks and garbage when I moved in. Now, it's completely transformed. There is private parking for tenants (cheaper than parking anywhere else), a private garden and dog run and plenty of clean space to BBQ or just hang out. 2) In three years I have only seen one rat by the garbage. The workers keep the trash area as clean as you can keep a trash area, and even covered it so that you don't have to stare at trash when you walk by. It's clean enough that I go out the back way on the oversized fire escape which leads you right through the garbage area instead of the long way through the front door - every day. It's totally fine. 3) Maybe the turnover you're talking about is from a time when the building and the management wasn't great but during my past three years, the turnover has been (from my understanding) people who lost their jobs and can't make rent, or simply had a life change and want to move away. Turnover happens in every building in this city, it's part of NYC life. 4) A man living in the building recently opened a martini bar/restaurant/lounge on the first floor of the building that rivals any Manhattan establishment. He also lives in the building. Around the corner, several incredible restaurants opened, including a great sushi place. The Bruckner Bar & Grill continues to be a great place around the corner. New businesses are opening in this area and many of those people live right here in the South Bronx, in the Clocktower. 5) The building manager has been a godsend. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this man and his assistants. I have never had such a great building manager. He is prompt, helpful, responsive and just an awesome guy. He recently (within minutes of me asking) rescued baby birds from my bathroom that were living in the wall (who got in through a pipe). No complaints. 6) The monthly cost for water service is $40 dollars. My heat/ac/electricity is the same price I paid for a smaller unit in East Williamsburg. Maybe you were just wasting energy, I don't know. But no complaints here either. 7) The building is INCREDIBLY safe. I feel safe walking through the South Bronx. In fact, my biggest concern now is people moving into this area who think they are better than those in the community because they live in the Clocktower. Newsflash: it's the Bronx, with all its pros and cons. The building population is diverse: many people of color who are working professionals, local teachers and artists, expats, etc. I am a young woman who walks to and from the train at all hours and no one bothers me. What I would like to see more of (being fairly new to the Bronx and also a person of color) is white people who move to the Bronx treating locals with respect and courtesy. Gentrification is a complex ball of factors and behaving as if you "discovered" a place is truly gross. 8) Carnegie Management is not on the current list of bad landlords. http://advocate.nyc.gov/landlord-watchlist 9) The workers in the building keep the place spotless. Literally. The people who make it dirty are gross/inconsiderate hipster tenants who leave their trash in the hallway or let their dogs pee in the elevator and don't clean it up. That's a tenant issue, not an issue with management. And management does go after them to remind them not to be such douchebags. 10) I've never had issues with renewing and negotiating the terms of my lease. I came in paying less than what i paid in Brooklyn for a smaller unit and the tiny increase is nothing. I love my unit. They are really open about what you do with your space, and in the last three years I've added two bedrooms within my loft unit and a home office (I mostly work from home these days). I honestly have no complaints about management or the building. My only complaints, again, are with some (not all) tenants who bring their privilege with them and act like they own the whole burrough, building and common areas and treat those areas like their personal garbage can. So, since Scott S.'s review is from 2009, and there are other reviews here from 2011 that are negative, I wanted to add my perspective. I respect the views of others and am not trying to invalidate their experience. Coming to New York from Norway for work, there's a lot of practical issues that were unknown to me when renting in the US. The building manager at 40 N. 4th Street, Jack, has been very friendly and helpful. He's been very quick to respond and eager to assist with both large and small issues. I am moving back to Norway now, as my work assignment here is over, but if I ever move back to the US, I will absolutely be happy to rent with Carnegie Management again. read more

I've lived in their building on Judge St for the past 2.5 years and have had a very positive experience. The apartments have nice finishes, and the backyard is incredible! It is also very well maintained, despite some messy neighbors. Any time I have an issue that needs repair or attention, I e-mail them right away, and get a quick response and it is fixed or replaced quickly. The replacement appliances from the broken ones were all even nicer and upgraded! The super, Jose, is also super helpful and has helped me with a few handyman jobs that I have needed. All in all, the property manager is very organized, timely, attentive, and friendly. I'm sad that I have to leave next year because of the L train shut down, and praying that I get a landlord/property manager as good as this one when I move. read more

Carnegie Management is the worst of the old school Jewish landlord organizations. Their building, The Clock Tower, in the South Bronx, has a constant turnover of tenants. Most leave after the first year---the building is not safe, the garbage overflows constantly attracting hordes of rats, the utility costs of heating/cooling one of their "lofts" is outrageous. Jacob, the seemingly sole broker who handles this building, actually wanted to back out of a lease arrangement we agreed on because someone else offered $40 more per month for the same apartment. Our daughter recently rented an apartment through Carnegie Management, she worked with Daniel Rivera. I can not say enough good about Daniel and our experience working with him. They had a very short amount of time to find an apartment and it was a very exhausting experience. We dealt with agents who did not show up to scheduled appointment, we dealt with scammers and we were ready to just give up. Then, they found an advertisement for an apartment in Williamsburg and were lucky enough to contract Daniel. He was available non-stop for all of their questions, he showed up at the appointment and was extremely helpful with information. He is very professional but also friendly and approachable--an attribute very much missing from other interactions we had. We are extremely happy with the outcome and wanted to leave a review in both thanks and acknowledgment of a job well done! Reasons why Carnegie sucks: There was a fire in the building on a recent Saturday morning. 1. The fire was in the apartment diagonal to mine (one below, one over). My fire alarm didn't go off (!!!), and I was woken up by people on the street yelling to get out of the building. 2. The firemen broke open the door to my apartment to make sure no one was inside. Carnegie Management didn't fix the door for FOUR DAYS, which meant that I had to stay home and miss work because the door wouldn't shut. Unrelated to the fire, but other reasons they suck: 3. One of the major perks of the apartment was the large roof, to which I have contractually guaranteed access. They put an obnoxious alarm on the door to the roof which lasts for a full two minutes and is audible four floors below. When I complained to them, they promised me a remote to turn the alarm off when I wanted to access the roof--that was three months ago, and said remote has never appeared. 4. Roaches 5. As someone else has mentioned, they charge you $50 a month for water, which they don't mention until you're in the room signing the contract. Total sleaze. 6. This is more annoying than anything, but they continually put up flyers that have terrible grammar and spelling errors. I don't know if they just don't know English, don't have spell check, or don't care, but it's embarrassing for them. I really can't emphasize enough how horrible a company this is. I wish I had read the Yelp reviews--there is nothing redeeming. If any company deserves a punch in the face, it's Carnegie Management. read more

Just moved into one of Carnegie's buildings in Brooklyn. Similar to other reviews, there was an unmentioned/hidden utility fee that was not disclosed to us until after we made our initial deposit, turned in our non-lease renewal to our other apartment, and showed up to sign on the dotted line. That off set us a bit since it is a monthly fee add-on that we were not expecting in the price. On a brighter note, even though we have only been here a week, the Super Jose and his sidekick Manuel were great. We were initially concerned with the apartment we were moving into because when we viewed it, there was dog hair everywhere and smelled of urine. On moving day, the place was IMMACULATE! Freshly painted, new varnish on the floor, and sooooo clean! We could not have been happier with the place including the warm welcome from both Jose and Manuel. Jose even installed a new lock on the door for our safety and magically produced a shower rod when we had forgotten to grab ours from the old place. This is only our first day, but if this level of customer service keeps up, we should be "A-ok!" read more

I've lived in my apt with Carnegie for a decade. I specifically want to write this post about our new building manager, Jack. Our neighbors recently got bed bugs and didn't tell anyone until after it had spread to my apt. I immediately contacted the Carnegie maintenance dept to make them aware that we needed treatment. That dept immediately made a three way call with an exterminator who said we couldn't be evaluated for a few days. Just after that phone call Jack called me and the exterminators said they would be there the next day. I don't know what he said to them but it worked. After the inspection, the manager of the extermination company said Jack was willing to bend over backwards to make sure the problem was taken care of ASAP and had convinced him to cancel several other jobs to make our situation top priority. I cannot tell you how different this experience was because of Jack than the experiences I have had over the past 10 years. I am much happier a tenant under his watch. read more

I lived in 248 McKibbin lofts for 2 years! I loved my apt and the management were great to work with. Whenever I had a problem they resolved it in a timely manner. I also LOVED my super, his name is Jose and he was the best super I ever had. He was friendly, professional, and always there to help. My decision to move was purely to be closer to work in midtown manhattan, but there was certainly some great restaurants and shops in the heart of Bushwick just 2 blocks away that I miss like Roberta's and Momos! read more

This is the best real estate company I have ever rented from. Recently, the laundry card machine broke and was unable to dispatch me a new one. I emailed Jack the property manager, he went above and beyond, and personally delivered me a new card with enough money to do laundry while he worked on getting it fixed. I live at the 342 Eldert location, and throughout the entire process of moving in, up until now, the staff has been pleasant and helpful and gone out of their way to accommodate us. Jack, the building manager, and Cruz the super, have both been extremely attentive and always get back to us about any issues in an extremely timely manner, and anything we've needed handled has been handled accordingly and quickly. Carnegie Management is terrible. I lived in the Mckibbin Lofts for nearly three years, and it was a complete nightmare. After living there and having countless terrible roommates move in and out of my apartment, all of which I had no control over, all while the rent kept steadily going up. It was ridiculous. The building is not even made for people to live in, honestly. The walls are paper-thin, the electricity is fucked, neighbors are loud unemployed kids, there's theft, weirdos constantly coming into the building, bed bugs are always an issue, laundry machines don't work but take your money anyways. It's just an oppressive shit place to live. I fulfilled my lease with the intent of getting my deposit back, but then they refused to give me my deposit back because when I moved out it wasn't considered a "move-out" because a other people signed-on in my apartment. Still in the process of taking them to court and getting that deposit back. read more

This is the worst management company ever. I visited their building in the Bronx. Saw a vacant apartment I liked. Submitted an application only to be told that the apartment was "promised" already to someone else. Oh and by the way, they said I had a L&T matter on my record from 10 years ago that they wanted to question me about. (Which is false) But, why would they be taking applications, running credit checks, and questioning me about their findings for an apartment that was already promised to someone else. Been with them for three years, they've been totally accommodating and professional. Prompt service in a well maintained building (Clocktower). You respect them and they respect you. Likewise, act like a self righteous prick and you might not get good service. Most people I've met who've had bad experiences with them probably deserved it. People get in over their heads without understanding the pros and cons of loft living and blame the management. read more

I lived in a carnegie building for several years. I had a really good experience; my apartment was beautiful and clean when I moved in and the landlord always took very good care of the building. The people at carnegie are really nice and easy to deal with as far as repairs, pest control, etc.; On the whole I had a good experience for NY, a lot better than other places I have lived in the city. My apartment was cheaper overall than similar places... My building was quiet and full of respectful people. I didn't have a problem getting my place but I was in the income bracket and was ready to move in immediately. I would recommend them highly. If they had buildings in more appealing parts of the city I would have definitely considered those when I moved. read more

I lived in one of the buildings owned in Bushwick and had an overall pleasant experience with Carnegie Management. I lived in the apartment for a year and it was expensive, but very conveniently a block from the train station and gas station, as well as less than a block from a well supplied deli, and across the street from a laundromat. The building also had laundry inside as well. The building manager Jack was super nice and VERY accommodating. He always responded to my emails quickly and personally stopped by to check out any concerns I had with the apartment. I complained briefly about my door having a tiny opening across the bottom and by the next day I had a seal so no papers could be slid under or bugs could crawl inside. I mentioned the bathroom not having a toilet paper roll holder and he had one installed also within the next day or so. It was nice to know that every time I reached out, I was being heard and treated kindly as well. I thought I would have a difficult time to have some ceiling leaking issues in the apartment dealt with, but he was able to send someone to come fix the issue somewhat quickly (and it did not leak again after that) which I appreciated. I did have a leak in the bathroom from the ceiling, but that also did not leak again after it was addressed and I was compensated with a very helpful laundry card for more than I even needed for the trouble it caused me to just wipe it up with paper towels. It was helpful! I felt like I could actually depend on him for a few small problems with the apartment and the Super was also really, REALLY nice. Both Jack and the super really made my move in and move out really easy. Don't do business with them, they are incredibly unreliable and dishonest. I have been negotiating a loft for the last few weeks, we agreed on a price and last week I submitted the application. Once I did that they told me that instead of the 2 months rent (first / last) they they initially told me I was supposed to provide, they wanted 3 months. The agent admitted it was his mistake to tell me 2, and would try to have that changed. Yesterday, after my credit was already checked and approved and I was ready to give the deposit, he told me the landlord had decided to increase the rent of $100 because they had lost the month of December (as if it was my fault) and that he wanted 3 months upfront. This morning as I went to the office they informed me the apartment was already rented. I lost the space last minute and two days before I am leaving mine. They are rude, unreliable dishonest people. I really recommend not using their properties. read more
