Rude and condescending, and the prices and service are just as bad. I took my wedding dress here to be altered, it was recommended by an amazing bridal store so I thought any place they recommend must be pretty good as well. If you're a new bride, expect 2-3 appointments to get the job done. Every single appointment I made with the owner was postponed or cancelled. I had to take an entire day off work and she cancelled my appointment less than an hour before the scheduled time. (Less than an hours notice was routine.) When I did finally get in, it was always a bit of a fiasco finding my dress. Don't lose your ticket, thank goodness I kept mine because she needed it. No prices are listed and if you ask, she'll just give you the run around. If you take your dress here, you're pretty much giving her a blank check. Everything in the wedding industry is at a 400% markup so I was expecting $200-$300, maybe $400 for alterations. It was even more than that. So many employees in the wedding industry forget that most brides-to-be have never been brides before! We have no idea what we're doing or what we're in for. A little courtesy goes a long way. I'm sorry if you have to explain what a bustle is for the 1,000th time, but have a heart, we just spent three mortgage payments on a dress and its future is in your hands. I've been coming to this woman for about ten years with clothing alterations and have loved every result. They always have your order ready, on time, and hung up neatly. They are very organized and never stressed about how much they have to do. I would trust them with anything and sometimes even ask what alteration they think would make something look better, then just let them work their magic. Unbelievably good work! I was skeptical about having 3 pairs of expensive jeans tailored to fit me. I lost quite a bit of weight so they didn't fit me at all anymore. They brought in the legs, resized the waste and hemmed the legs. They now fit better than when I bought them off the rack. It's like having tailor fit jeans. The best part is, you can't see where they sewed at all and the hems look off the rack. I highly recommend their service. On another note, my favorite shirt was purchased there too. read more

I went in to get a simple dress shirt hemmed. It took a week to get done and when I went there to pick it up, I tried it on only to find out it wasn't hemmed up on the sides and still had the pins in it. I needed it that week but I couldn't pick it up for a week later. I then had to try and get them to give me a discount for my troubles, which they finally gave me a 25% discount. When I went to pick it up the next Monday, they tried to get me to pay the full price again that I was quoted. The alteration ended up costing almost the same as the shirt. THe worst part was they were not apologetic through the whole thing. Horrible customer service. I'm new to the area and made the mistake of going here once, but will be looking elsewhere. read more

I have been into Carmel Tailoring twice with a girlfriend getting her wedding dress done. Ladies, after being in some half a dozen+ weddings, I can tell you that finding a good tailor is a godsend. I cannot express how important it is to find someone who can fit you into your gown and make it fit like a glove! Seeing the transformation and work they have done on my client/friend's dress has been incredible. The work is impeccable and they have taken the lacy fabric nearly completely apart in many areas. It was a bit scary at first but it looks AMAZING now that they have completed the process. I'm very impressed and it was not any more expensive than another tailor and I have a feeling, it would have cost nearly double to have it done at the store. Do NOT let these bridal stores tell you that they have to do the alterations. Go to a trusted source. This is your gown and I've heard many a scary story about gowns gone wrong b/c gals didn't think they had a choice. On a side note, on my first visit the owner gave me a behind the scenes tour, introducing me to the staff and sharing that they are specialists in men's ware, especially suits and jackets for disabled professional men. They have an entire system to accommodate this specialty and it's very impressive. They are meeting many needs and do impressive work. Doesn't get much better! read more

One of my favorite sweaters somehow got damaged - the wool stitching had been pulled loose in a couple of spots on the front. I had never needed the services of a tailor before, so I didn't even know where to begin. After finding Carmel Tailoring, I took my sweater in to see if they could repair it. The owner, Kay, was very pleasant (and responds to emails very quickly) and said she could do the job! I came back a few days later to pick up the sweater and it looked good as new! It didn't cost much to do the repair and I couldn't be happier with the entire process. Both Kay and the associate working when I stopped by are extremely friendly and professional. Needed to get my daughter's prom skirt shortened and tried this place for the first time. From the moment we walked in it was a challenge to get their attention. Although we were the only customers, the 3 people in the office area continued to talk to each other, even though I could see them and they could see me. I had to initiate the conversation. After my daughter put on the skirt and was ready for the measurements - I had to call her out again. Measurements done and undressed - had to get their attention again to take the skirt - had to *ask* how much it would be (turns out quote was nearly $30 off when it was picked up). When she placed the skirt down on the edge of the counter it fell on the floor and she didn't even notice. Picked it up and now the has a crease. I'm not sure why they acted like we weren't worth their time but I shouldn't have to work this hard to pay for services. read more

Updated to reflect Google Review for consistency. I have had a very poor experience with this business; I recommend you avoid them for your services, ESPECIALLY bridal. My first visit for my wedding dress fittings was alright; nothing particularly stellar in terms of service, but I didn't get a bad feeling about the place. I then tried to go back for my next scheduled fitting, a month later. They had lost my appointment and were unable to see me. Doesn't really make a bride feel special, does it? I schedule an appointment for later in the week and in her apology for losing my appointment, Kay lets slip that they had also not done any work on my dress in the time I had left it there. Perfect. Kay, who I assume is the proprietor, is not someone I want to be around for any length of time. She repeatedly called me "baby," "honey," and "sweetie," EVEN AFTER I ASKED HER TO STOP. She never listens ("When would you like your next appointment?" "In the morning." "Great, does 5pm work?"). She asks the same questions over the course of a conversation that she really ought to know ("When is your wedding?" was asked of me three times in one visit) or is none of her business ("do you live far?" was asked of me often as I stressed I did not want extra fittings/visits). I would reach out for my wedding dress and she would push past me and place it in the fitting room. I would be getting dressed and she would OPEN THE CURTAIN. Any concerns I bring up (like the bust not fitting right) are waved away and either she says "it will naturally get fixed as we're doing this other thing" or "nah, it's fine." At my latest and last to final pickup fitting, I again stressed I did not like the bust, and it's only then that she offers a tailoring solution - I am way too wary at this point (and too close to my wedding date!) to trust her advice. Then she suggests I tape it - uh, why would I do that if I'm bringing it to you to fix? What's next, safety pins? The bustle is ugly and not what she showed me it would look like. Final meeting/pickup: the dress is average to below average. Black threads are up in the tulle that I'm instructed that I'll simply have to "pick out" before putting on the dress. I am charged FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY DOLLARS for the most basic of work that shows no master craftsmanship. They will never get my business again - avoid at all costs! read more

The employees there were extremely accommodating and were able to squeeze my dress into their schedule so it could be done in time for the event. Met with Kay, and also Zinnia I think it's spelled. Had arguably the best customer service I ever received in my life. Wound up buying 2 different Bresciani suits, and getting 2 older suits worked on and brought up to speed. I can't say enough about the service I received. I'm not sure about some other people's experiences and wish I used yelp more, but when people go above and beyond it makes me want to share it. I think the pricing is fantastic and since I'm here on business- the quality of what I'm getting needs to be on point and fast. I love the suits and shirts. I'm happy to give Kay 5 stars, and can't wait to come back again. Fully recommend if you need tailoring or higher quality suits and shirts. She said alot of it was new. read more

I called to make an appointment to make a sari blouse for a wedding out of fabric I already had. I was given one the next day. The owner helped fit me for the sari blouse. She was thorough and pleasant during our interaction. I can't wait to see the finished product! Might be good for tailoring, not good for letterman jackets. I took my son's jacket there and asked if she'd put patches on other letterman jackets. She said yes. I left the patches and jacket with her, mentioned the hidden zipper, and picked up a week later. The patches were sewn THROUGH the back liner. She charged me $20 to ruin my son's jacket. I took the jacket across the street to another alteration company for them to fix it. They charged me LESS and I will pick up in a week. read more

A great spot with great people. I lived in Atlanta for 3 years and had an unbelievable tailor with great selections there. Since that point, I have been very particular with any tailor's work. After trying a few places around the Carmel area when I moved here, I finally found Kay and Carmel Tailors. They do a great job, always make sure your happy with the work, and are open to any suggestions that could make your experience or their selection better!
