Got a 2017 Hyundai Sante Fe from here. Car I wanted for awhile. Was told no accidents, no damage, and they had done inspections. First issue was, the car was being shipped from a different CarMax and they kept telling me random different days it would arrive. When I did get the car, 2 days later I noticed the front tires rotting, and the rotors were bent. So the car shook, the oil change also wasn't done and was overdue by 4,000 miles. Weeks later I noticed my fender was not color matched to the rest of the car, the car was white but my fender was tan. Found out, there was an accident on the car with damage underneath that Carmax didn't tell me about. They also didn't inform me about the car previously being a rental. CarMax argued with me about replacing the front tires, rotors, and the oil change and other damages when they had lied to me about nothing being wrong with the car as well as they had done a thorough "inspection" and I had asked for them to repair these issues within the week of owning the car. They wanted to charge me a lot of money but luckily one very nice worker there handled everything over the phone with me and I greatly appreciate it. Do your research before purchasing a car from here, my Hyundai with 71k miles was 15,000 with LOTS of issues and that I was lied to about. read more

Their 90 day repair clause is as good as worthless. Their standards for the condition of vehicles that they allow to be sold and drive off their lot, are questionable at best. Live and learn. read more

Derek Butler was great ! He got me into my car in just about 2 hours. I will be back to Carmax as they really stream line the whole process. That being said... Some employees are better than others and I wasn't impressed with the person that met me at the door... He wasn't the normal door guy, I think he was the sales manager, boy was he rude... I didn't get his name, Greg maybe ? He was an older guy that had a white spot of hair in the bangs region... even though I made an appointment 3 hours prior to showing up, and had been waiting 12 days for my car to transfer, they had nothing in the computer about my appointment. I asked him if he wanted to see the text confirming my appointment and he just shook his head with out even making eye contact. He acted very put out at just the fact that I walked in. I don't expected to be treated like royalty, but I shouldn't feel like I am an irritation. Derek more than made up for it. He was knowledgeable, considerate, and honest. He made me feel like all my concerns where important and we talked about every single one of them. Never did I feel like I was putting him out.... Which is how it should be. Which is why despite starting off on the wrong foot with Sales manager at the door, I am giving them 5 stars simply for Derek and his service. I will be back, and I will ask for Derek Butler. You would be well off to do the same!! read more

Sold my 2005 Honda Odyssey here. Every person we worked with, from the appraiser to the business office, was professional and friendly. Everyone was wearing a mask. It was easy to make an appointment online, and the whole process took one hour from start to finish. First, we provided some information about the car. Then, the appraiser took a few minutes to look over the car. We started the car and rolled down the windows. He looked at the engine and took a few pictures of the outside of the car. Then, we went back inside and waited for about 10 minutes for our offer. We got more than we thought we'd get considering the condition of the car, and we accepted the offer. After a few more paperwork details, they gave us the plates in a reusable bag, and we were on our way with a check in hand. I appreciated that everyone explained everything to us. The whole process felt comfortable and efficient! I was hesitant to try selling to a private buyer because the car needed a lot of work to be drivable. Now that I'm working remotely and not really using the car, I just wanted to get rid of it as painlessly as possible. We probably could have gotten more for it selling to a private buyer, but I didn't feel comfortable doing that. All in all, we had a great experience at this Carmax! read more

Had the car I wanted shipped here from Henderson NV which only took 2 days. When it arrived in Reno no one notified me it was there. In fact if it wasn't for me calling asking for an update no one would have ever said a word. The sale portion was so so and they had some fix it things that they said could be done in the following weeks. Minor issues but still important. The nightmare of this place is the service dept. Or lack Thereof. I've never seen so many incompetent little children running a service dept. Place is full of teens that have no idea of how to run things. Trying to get your car in for the service is also impossible since they're booked weeks out. The tech had to hurry cause he has a lunch at 12 so only had so long to work on the car... 2 hrs max. What kind of ridiculous system is this!? I still as of today haven't had the issues repaired they promised to do. I have now regretted ever purchasing a car from here now and I never will again. Neither will anyone else I know cause I will make sure they are not ever recommended! read more

I thought my car appraisal process and the offer was hasslefree and fair. The associate that I worked with was very pleasurable to work with and very professional. However, I still had a loan to pay off with Mercedes-Benz and the business office for some reason sent a handwritten check in the snail mail, and by the time Mercedes had received and processed the snail mail. Check. The amount of my payoff changed, and their payoff didn't settle my account with Mercedes-Benz. I then had to pay personally money to Mercedes-Benz to close my account which Carmax did reimburse me at an additional cost of time and effort on my part. I'm not sure why in this day and age wire transfer, or Western Union couldn't have settled the matter in a couple of days .... Had I known that this was going to occur I would have sold the vehicle to someone else who is with the current times in business and could send a wire transfer read more

My first car I bought at CarMax was only a little over a year old and did not have a lot of miles on it so I felt like I got a really good car. When I decided to trade it in and get a bigger car I went right back to CarMax. I had to learn the hard way that they do not do what they promise. After I got my Subaru home I notice a few things wrong and they did promise to fix anything that I found within the 30 days. Well, when I brought my car in the first time to get it fixed the staff in the parts dept was not as helpful or knowledgeable. They told me my car would be there about 4 hours to get fixed so I was very surprised that they called me 40 min later and said my car was fixed and ready to go. The service guy had the nerve to tell me nothing was wrong with it and I didn't know how to work the car and it was normal for the rubber lining on my sunroof to fall down and hang off the window and all I need to do was push it back up there. The first time I went to use my back wiper it still did not work. So I had to miss another day of work and bring the car in again. After several hours I went back to get it and they said it was broken and needed a part that would take at least four weeks to get in and then a couple more weeks to get in fixed. Another lost day at work. Finally they say it's all fixed and I drive off. Once again the wiper does work but barley, it would take several attempts and finally I would get a couple drops of the liquid to come out. My sunroof rubber lining was glued back in place by what looked like Elmer's glue and the sun made it melt and when I tried to push the lining back in I got sticky glue on my hand. By this point I'm pissed at CarMax and called them again and I never even heard back from them. Very poor service. Then to top it off my car oil change light comes on after only driving it a few weeks. What the hell? They told me when I bought the car it was totally serviced. So I went to another car shop to get it changed and they told me the oil was very very dirty and black and had not been changed in a long time and the transmission fluid was extremely low too. It's very obvious that CarMax lied about everything. I do not recommend CarMax to anyone. I will never go there and will tell all my friends to stay away from them. Very horrible experience read more

I was looking around to buy a car and a couple of my friends mentioned this establishment. I walked in and was greeted by Clairebelle Price. I told her that I wanted to look at certain types of cars and what I wanted to spend. She was so easy going and great personality, I was very happy to have her help me! We found a couple off cars on the computer, I liked the looks and we went out to see them. The first one was not for me, the second one I really liked the looks and the price (the price is the price, no negotiation at CarMax) she said let's take it for a test drive? Of course, let's do it! Fell in love with the car needless to say. She put it on hold for me until I could return with paperwork I needed. I felt so comfortable with the whole situation when I left that I had no hesitation in returning with an optimistic attitude when I returned a couple days later! This place is not like a regular car lot, there is no pressure involved, I'm assuming they don't call and hound you like most lots do. I picked up my car the day I made the appointment for and Clairebelle was ready for this transaction as well as I was. A gal named Jenny who is on the business end did all my paperwork and went over everything thoroughly with me as Clairebelle sat and made sure I was getting what was promised!! I highly recommend CarMax and if you can't get Clairebelle as your salesperson, I'm sure anyone will be fine. They are like a family around here!! Thank you CarMax for the wonderful service and my new car read more

Eli was great. Not so sure about office staff. Vehicle was just as described, offer for trade in was the highest we received.

I received an online offer from carmax. I called before I went down to their location to make sure I brought everything necessary and get an idea of how long the process would take to finalize my deal of selling my truck to them. They lie to you over the phone to get you down there. When you get there. You'll notice there is around 100 employees - 99 of them are incompetent and do not know anything or do anything. They will have you waiting around for hours, and the checks they write you cannot cash ( have to deposit and wait at least 10 days) . The manager is the most incompetent one out of all of them! read more

I have always had a good experience when I visit any carmax and I have visited a few in different states. This time we wanted to explore our options and go for a test drive for a couple of vehicles that were "discreetly" calling my name. We just showed up which in Covid times we should know by now, was a bad idea. We were placed in a waiting list and given an estimate of about 45 minutes for someone to see us. We were seen well ahead of our advertised waiting time. While we waited, we walked the lot and let our imagination run wild. We were helped by a very nice agent, I can't remember her name :( she was super helpful, answered all our questions and wasn't annoying with the fake niceness some salespersons have. We went for our test drives, at the moment they are limited to two vehicle test drives per visit which was fine since we only had two vehicles in mind. The vehicles we test drove were nice but neither quite met my expectations so we left empty handed but still had a great experience. read more

DO NOT take your car here for repair or maintenance. I brought my car here for a repair that was covered under their 90-day warranty. My car has been at this dealership for over 40 days. After mis-diagnosing the issue - it is a coolant leak but the first "technician" that is no longer working there diagnosed a transmission leak. There was no transmission leak but a coolant leak. They have rescheduled the repair several times and the response from Ken the service manager is "when we get to it, we get to it!" At this point I do not trust anyone in the service department - they are incompetent and have no respect for the customer. read more

Carmax in Reno is to expensive and they won't negotiate their prices are $2k-$4k markup. People take the car and get it checked out before purchasing. Wow. The worst experience. Lied to again and again and again. I ordered a car that arrived...but no one called me...found out it can't be sold in my state days almost a week later....my account was on hold and couldn't order more cars until it was freed. Wasted so much time on the phone and threw even called me in for a face to face to waste my time to "get to know me" They hit my credit and launched it over and over again so thanks for the 20 hard inquiries for 1 car...now finally find a Volvo. Of course my credit score dropped 20 points so my interest was 10% more. Day 31-check engine light. I need a piece that's on back order indefinitely....Crazy issues with electronics I'm talking doors, gas lid, radio turning off, buttons not working and delayed, locks locking and unlocking in their own and back passenger door doesn't open from the inside, running through gas more than I should be....because of "lack of staff" they don't have appointments as soon as they should for everyone. I'm out of my 90 days and being told I will be paying for further issues...even though all these things have been issues since before the 90 days....and recorded...here in Reno they don't even have the proper equipment to read what's wrong with my electronics. I apparently need a fuel filter and probably much more in the next 30 days because well...Carmax! I was also told as part of the selling deal I could change my car max plan when I refinance...and the oil changes alone make it worth it...auto just told me car max care doesn't cover reg matnance.... Thanks to the guy and his traineee that flat out lied through their teeth to me. Again and again. Oh and random cosmetic stuff has been falling off the car left and right. Like they took a glue stick and glued all these pieces on real quick. Just like Mac products. Everything seems to fail when the warranty is up. Since I am still dealing with all these issues I have left names out but every person who I met and spoke to will probably be added to an updated version of this soon once I actual feel comfortable in my new car. read more

Very easy and convenient. I found the car I wanted online. They shipped it to the Carmax in my town for a small fee. There was no haggling on price. The list price was a deal. The process in store was very straightforward and took about 1 1/2 hours, including the test drive. I found a small scratch on the car. They sent a guy to my home, at my convenience, to repair the scratch, no charge. This is our second purchase through Carmax and we're very happy with the process and the product read more

Rude.Rude.Rude. My daughter purchased her 1st car her and I thought we would have a great experience also. NOT. Gregg greeted us as if we were an inconvenience. Then proceeded to continue with the same attitude as we started the process to test drive the car we paid to have shipped to their location. Completely ignored me as if I were invisible and proceeded to tell my partner that we were putting the cart before the horse by adding the vehicle to our insurance. Not a big deal. We knew that our insurance company closes at 6pm. If we didn't end up buying the vehicle, we could easily take the car off of the insurance. We already worked the details out with the finance company and brought all necessary documents to the dealership. What is the big deal if we added it to our insurance to be proactive? So we went to Dolan. read more

After spending a year not driving due to Covid, my husband and I decided we only needed one car, not two. I thought we had a good experience with our car buying - the car was transferred from Roseville to Reno quickly, our salesperson seemed very helpful, and we were in and out in less than three hours. However, the touch up paint on the liftgate was horrible. The salesperson agreed and even wrote up a "Repair Request" that it was "not in CarMax standards," and that we could call and schedule it to be redone. However, upon calling, they said because it had been done, it was CarMax standards. (Even though it is clearly written that it isn't.) According to the scheduler, two managers agreed they will not fix the paint issue. So basically, a salesperson can write whatever they want on the Repair form and tell you it will be fixed, and it doesn't mean anything. I won't ever buy from CarMax again due to this deceptive practice. read more

As a salesmen myself, I walk into car dealerships very skeptical. We had been shopping for almost 2 years for a family car, I had walked out of a lot of car dealerships, and said no after many long meetings with car salesmen that I witnessed did not have everyone's best interest in mind. Like I said this went on for almost 2 years. I immediately had a different experience when I met Eric. I met Eric with Carmax early February at their location and he began the process of finding the right family car for us. We worked together for 4 weeks, he was patient, concerned, quick to respond, thorough in the details and unbelievably helpful. I only bought my car at Carmax because of Eric. He has all the great attributes of a successful salesmen and this is not flattery by any means. I guess it is honest to other Yelpers to admit that an issue did come up in the buying and transferring process. This is an issue I would say is independent of our experience with Eric and out of Eric's carmax given capabilities to resolve. I got connected with shift manager Brennon and he worked towards resolving it and granted the correct solution that I was requesting. read more

First dealing with this business. Must things here are to your advantage and easy to relax and enjoy their process. Looking for a car, easy on their online site, what I found amazing, they allow you to put the vehicle you like on hold, schedule and appointment and proceed from there. That is exactly what I did and the follow up from the salesman was immediate and professional. Now this is definitely a no haggle experience, the lusted price is the price. Once you do your homework you will find they are offering you the best price! I did purchase a car with my son. Once all the paperwork completed, you go out the large glass doors and their us your car, full tank of gas, and a big yellow ribbon on top! Super cool way to close the deal! read more

Carmax used to be great. I recently purchased a car from them and it had an exhaust leak. I returned and was reassured the next car would be good. The day after purchasing the ac went out. They had it fixed. Now the transmission is having issues and they have basically said I can have the car appraised and trade it in but I will be upside down. This has been a nightmare. The customer service here is horrific. We saw a car listed online and went to take a look at it minutes after we saw the listing. When we got to the front desk, the man asked if we reserved the vehicle and when I we said no he scoffed at us. Then he told us it was already reserved but we were welcome to go look at it because they could transfer another one in if we liked that model. We thought he would get up or have someone go show us... nope. He literally pointed outside and said, "Go have a look at it". We asked him where it even was in the giant sea of cars and he said, "I don't know, you can walk around and look for it. Maybe the middle rows somewhere?". SERIOUSLY? We have to go find the car and you won't even get up to show us? We walked outside, walked around until we found it and it was LOCKED and we couldn't even look at it after all of that. I recently sold an older car I've had for awhile. I went through the online process with CarMax, and received an offer that I thought was fair. There are a few minor issues with the car, which I noted in the online form. I drove an hour to the CarMax location in Reno, which is closest to where I live in South Lake Tahoe. I checked in via the QR code up front, then oddly was asked to provide all of the same information to the person at the desk. She was very nice, this just seemed repetitive. I then gave her my keys and was asked to wait while the appraiser looked at my car. I waited for about 40 minutes, and then was called back to her desk. The revised offer after appraisal was less than half of my online offer, all based on the issues I had specifically noted in my online offer. I asked to talk to the appraiser, again had to sit and wait, then a different person than the person who appraised my car approached me and told me there was nothing they could do, even though I had noted the issues that lowered the offer in the online form so the revision did not seem fair. The new offer was offensively low, and the overall experience was poor, so I left. I went across the street to the Mercedes dealership because they had a sign advertising that they also buy cars. I walked in and was welcomed warmly, and worked with their appraisal employee who efficiently went through all the steps of putting together an offer for the car. They ended up offering double what CarMax had offered, and it was a great customer service experience. I hadn't previously thought about buying a Mercedes, but now I definitely will consider this dealership when looking for my next car. However, I will NEVER shop or consider CarMax again. read more

I'm not sure why this place has anything other than at least a 4 star rating - it should be 5. I am here to give them exactly that. Here is my long story short. My boyfriend and I decided I needed new Mustang. I looked online and found the one I wanted - the right year, the right color and the right price. I requested a transfer. A week and a half later my car was at the dealership and we were heading down to check it out with the mindset of driving away with it. We sold my 2001 private party and drove down to Car Max with my other car which I planned to trade in. Nery helped us out and was very nice and helpful. We test drove the car and decided to go for it. Nery took my financial info, credit info etc., (all the usual stuff). Within ten minutes I had 4 competitive offers from different banks to finance the car. While this was going on they were evaluating my trade in and offered only $200.00 lower than what I owed on the payoff. I decided on which bank I wanted to work with and Nery closed the deal. After that part of the deal we had some small paper signing to do with another very helpful and nice employee. The whole thing took about 2 1/2 hours with zero stress. They don't pressure you, they answer any and all questions you have. They are upfront and honest and make you feel welcome. I will always recommend Car Max to anyone looking for a car. If you are headed down - ask for Nery and tell him Jennifer sent ya. read more
