Come to find out they have to drive to Carson City to get it. I called to schedule an oil change today and asked can they get the oil filter in advance so I don't have to wait an hour. CarMax has quickly become my favorite place to shop for vehicles. Having just purchased our second vehicle from them a couple weeks ago, we have no plans to shop anywhere else for vehicles. Both experiences have been exceedingly better than any other dealer we've dealt with. I hate haggling and I hate the high pressure salespeople of other dealerships (even the ones that "don't hire salespeople" and "don't work on commission." I prefer to do my research, reserve the vehicles I'm actually interested in and show up at my appointment time to test drive the ones that fall into my price range and interest. The sales associates at CarMax have never pressured us into looking at other vehicles or pushed the "amazing" features of the ones we came to look at. In fact, they don't even point out the features at all. They are there to answer questions, but mostly just stand by and let us look and discuss. We paid cash for one and financed another and both experiences took about the same amount of time and were extremely easy. For the financing there was no "let me go back to the secret office and see what deal I can work out for you." The same person that showed you the vehicles submits all the info right there at the desk with the screen in full view and then simply shows you the options that come back. I was able to look at the screen and pick the interest rate/loan term combo I felt comfortable with, no questions asked or suggestions made. We've never had a better financing experience. Also, we have 3 young children so the little play area they have was a big help. My wife and I were able to take turns sitting with the kids and test driving the vehicle (to avoid loading up car seats for quick test drive) and then we did the same thing for signing papers. My wife stayed with the kids while I went and signed and then we swapped. They were very accommodating and didn't treat us like we were waiting their time even though they had to go through the paperwork twice. We've also sold a couple of vehicles to them and they process was just as quick and painless. I recommend CarMax to anyone who will stand still long enough. read more

I am updating my review only because I have to say if it was not for the service advisor Paul I would have zero confidence in CarMax. Paul is a stand up guy that not only does his job but goes above and beyond. He has stayed in constant communication with me giving updates on the status of my vehicle. The truck was sent over to Chevy to be fixed as Paul felt at this point the issue is beyond CarMax scope of work. For this reason I must say I have renewed confidence in CarMax. Even though the truck has been there since we bought it they have tried to remedy any issues and will be getting me a loaner car today. Again due to the above and beyond service from Paul I have renewed faith in this company standing behind its product. Thank you Paul for your outstanding service. read more

I bought a car about 10 months ago at Carmax..Process was pretty easy..So I recommend my BF look there. He was a little unsure what he wanted so we booked 3 or 4 test drives over the course of a several weeks. We went in today Sunday to test drive and narrow down to final purchase and the agent helping us was Alex. Also note the previous visit the coworker that had to help us says he needs to take the information because typical disappearing Alex can't be found. So today Alex tells us that we need to narrow down and pick a car because he has other people to assist and basically we are inconveniencing him. We are absolutely not going to be rushed into spending all this money on something that we dont want. They don't even go test drive with you and act like we have nothing better to do with our time then test drive cars. I was offended. He was cocky...entitled and frankly out of line and let him know him or anyone else will force us to spend apl this money and I told him there are a zillion car lots we will gladly go give our money to them and walked. We left and went to Reno Tahoe Auto Group. Wow what a complete different experience. The young man tells us we can look amd drive whatever we want..and btw he actually has to go with us!!! We even spoke amd were greeted by the owner who like I told Anthony they need to head there to learn some customer service and how people should be treated. I called the next morning into Carmax and spoke to a manager Anthony...He was no different then Alex. He says that they money doesnt matter especially which form used. I told him of course the money doesnt its not his MONEY!!!! He then proceeds to tell me he will talk to Alex and get his version because mine is only my version. That he has been selling cars for 15 yrs...well i have managed ppl for 25 and incan assire you they wouldnt treat ppl the way we were. Worst customer service ever!!!! If I could give them a lesser rating, I would. Everything was all pretty and civil right till the point I took possession of my new vehicle that I purchased through them. The car was supposed to ship from CA and tracking it was a pain, even an associate said it most likely would take more than the 2 weeks, which was the promised date given to me when I paid, out of pocket for the transport. Once I got the car here (thankfully in 2 weeks after calling their head offices), I test drove it and noticed a good amount of shimmying/vibration, which my sales person promised can be fixed after I buy the car. I bought the car on 3rd of June. I booked an appointment the next day but it was about 2 weeks out. The person who greeted me was very rude, and just kept rolling her eyes for every question I asked. They said they had to replace my front two rotors, which they did and that I will have to make another appointment to do an alignment (this visit took 3 hours of me waiting in their building). I booked another appointment which was 10 days out for my alignment and tire rotation+balancing. The day of the alignment, they called me and told me that they won't be able to do it, since they don't have the tools to do so, and asked me to take it to BMW dealership instead. I was surprised because they could have told me that in the 2 weeks I was waiting to get my car serviced. Additionally, the front two windows would get stuck when I rolled them down so I asked BMW to look at those as well. Apparently there was excess glue from a previous window tint and that they would need to be cleaned thoroughly. CarMax agreed to pay for it but it took 2 hours to get confirmation during which time I was just waiting at the dealership. I called CarMax again to schedule another appointment since there is now oil leaking from underneath the vehicle, and also asked to get my tires rotated and balanced, to which they refused. After much heated deliberation they agreed to take care of it, since they promised it at the time of sale. Now its been a month since I bought my car. I've had to take it in 4 different times and to two different dealerships, to get things fixed, I don't know what else may come up wrong with it. Their 125+ point inspection is a big joke. Would not recommend, and will definitely persuade my near and dear ones to steer clear. read more

My wife has always loved the Lexus RX series SUV's. When she was in the market for one she found one she liked at a Carmax in San Diego. So we went to the local Carmax here in Reno and paid (non returnable) $350 to have it shipped up to Reno. After all they advertise that they do a multi point check on every car before they sell it. When we went to look at it the first time it took the salesman a long time to come back with the car. Turns out the battery was dead and they had to jump start it. This was just the start. After the test drive I noticed that two of the tires were new and two were old and needed replacing. Only after working with the service department did they agree to replace them. They did put a new battery in the car the day we bought it. After owning the car for a few months we took the car in for an oil change and I looked at the air filters in the engine and cabin. They looked like that had not been changed in years. It then became obvious that they either do not do the multi point check or they do them and don't do anything that needs to be attended to. We will never purchase an automobile from Carmax again. The service department had been great to work with. read more

A completely stress-free and casual way to buy a car. No haggling with prices, no shark salesman hovering over you. My son and I went in to purchase his first car. After going to several dealerships, we were just about ready to give up. Then we found Carmax. Plenty of nice cars to look at, all doors are unlocked, prices are clearly posted - total transparency. The gentleman helping my son and I was Bob, very nice and patient. We took 4 different cars on test drives before finding the perfect one. Bob helped us decided - he didn't dictate what we he thought we should get. Financing took 5 minutes - received just as good of a rate than had I went through my bank. Paperwork took about 15 minutes. The manager came over and thanked us for the business. It was a perfect car buying experience and my son was so excited to drive his new car off the lot... Until - and this is the only small issue that I had - the car was brought around with a broken turn signal. This break had occurred when the car was detailed. I said I would take the car home and bring it back on Monday morning (it was Saturday night) for repair, but our salesman Bob wouldn't let us take the car because it was unsafe. How awesome is that? A car salesman that actually has a conscious! I'd give him 6 stars if I could... they even offered me a loaner car until my car was ready. Anyways, Paul in the service department was fantastic - gave me updates and had the car ready as promised. He was also very nice and cared that this was my son's first car and wanted to make things right - which he did. Everyone I came into contact with at Carmax was friendly and helpful. I'd definitely recommend the place to anyone looking for a high-quality pre-owned vehicle. Not cheap, but you get what you paid for. And make sure to track down Bob! :-) read more

Took my 2015 Ford Fusion SE in to "sell" it to Carmax. Fairly hassle free and friendly staff, the process is a bit cumbersome as you end up dealing with several different people throughout the process. Why not just have one person do the whole process? Regardless, they gave us a fair price on my car, and stroked me a check the same day. Being upside down in a new car is not uncommon and my situation was no exception. Carmax was not judgy or pushy and happily took my payoff and made the process easy. Would work with again. read more

Overall, it's an ok shopping experience. We were still there for several hours but there was no lame back-and-forth negotiations to contend with. Our sales guy, Tripp, was friendly and knowledgeable, we left feeling like he did a fine job. Financing in-house was simple. There were mechanical issues with the car we wanted, and they offered to fix them only if we were really interested in buying it. This required us to come back a week later to finalize the purchase, and they seemed to have resolved the issue (severely worn tires all around). Another bummer was that the car was not clean when we left. They quickly ran it through a car wash and maybe vacuumed. But there was trash wadded up in a cup holder in the rear seat that left used chewing gum on my husband's hand (eeew!!). I would have preferred that the car was thoroughly cleaned before we took it home after all the money we spent--it had water spots all over it, the black exterior trim is streaked with some odd cleaner, and the carpets need to be shampooed. We felt ok about the deal we got and left with a pretty good vehicle that has some quirks and needs a good detail job. read more

We will never return to carmax as the reno store is rude and very disorganized. The comments by corporate are all talk and no action. I have heard from numerous people that have had similar experiences. The whole car buying process is never told to the customer that these documents are needed and you have to print them out at the store. Doesn't matter if you bring the documents in that's not good enough for management. Horrible experience and only became worse the second time we went. Not even sure where to start.....we bought a car in April of last year and since then the car has been to car max service sept six going on seven times. Today I called to make another appt and spoke with Paul. He so nicely let me know not only were they no longer allowed to work on the car but the reasoning is because it has been in the shop so many times that it's not fixable. Wow that was so nice to hear from the dealership we bought the car from. We have had oil vacuum leaks, head gasket leaks, had to replace the gas tank, fuel pump, ac, computer, oh and every time we pick it up they have some lame excuse as to why it's broken. We tried to go in and talk to Jason the sales manager and see if we could get help trading this in because it's more than obvious this car is a LEMON. Not only did he, the sales person we dealt with and the service staff pretty much say that Everyone that we talk to says the same thing. Being told you can't work on the car anymore and that you've bent over backwards to try and fix it but obviously it's not working so now you have to pay more on your warranty and go somewhere else in my opinion is very poor customer service. The last time we talked to Jason he said because we put so many miles on the car that he couldn't help us. Which is weird because our car is still under the average miles for the year it is and is in good condition. During the appraisal he tried to tell us it needed new tires! Lol because we just put new tires on at pep boys four weeks earlier and the little studs were still on the tires. We called and left three messages and the only call we got back was from the sales person asking if we were Pizza Hut. When we went in to personally see someone face to face one of your own managers who is a woman told us that she wouldn't buy a car from you guys and bought a new Camry from somewhere else. That's reassuring to say the least. Then today the icing on the cake after being told they were no longer allowed to work on our car because of how bad it is Paul so nicely told me to shut the fuck up and hung up on me when I asked for his manager. We even have the extended warranty you shoved down our throat and told us we "had" to purchase. Yes we're glad we did but maybe there is a reason you force customers to get those. There have been times within 24 hours of getting it back from your service dept it's dead on the side of the road before we get home. We not only bought one but two cars from this dealership. Needless to say I wish I didn't have to give even one star. Their lack of professionalism, going "above and beyond" as Paul so nicely told me is far from the truth. As of today now our all wheel drive is out and we have to have it towed for the third time since owning the car. We own a 2011 328i bmw drive that we purchased from Anthony. On Thursday Oct 29 we called the corporate customer service number. We were told we would have a call back from a senior rep no later than Tuesday. Well today is Wednesday and we received no call between Thirsday and yesterday. Our car went to BMW on Wednesday, first they said it was the alignment called us and gave us the bill. On our way to pick up they said oh wait nvm we just found your differential is broken. Wow. So they called the warranty company who screwed around and finally approved our rental so we had a car. Still not fixed either. Regardless still waiting to hear from someone because at this point it's the repairs, service and communication is beyond ridiculous. read more

Terrible experience! We ordered a car to be delivered from Georgia. It took 3 weeks to get the car, which was understandable. The salesman said they needed to detail it and inspect it, so when we got there, the car was filthy. I questioned if it was even inspected. After sitting down with the part time salesman, he was so uneducated so many things we questioned (extended warranty, taxes, financing, etc) he had to bring a manager in. We then came started to deal with the financing. They ran our credit and gave us one option for finance, through them. With a 800 credit score they said only there financing, or we could have 3 days to get an outside loan. So we decided to go with our own outside financing. Then it got difficult, the down payment could be cash only, no credit card. Which was the choice we wanted because we were waiting on an instance check for the down from our previous car being totaled. Then we asked if we could pay the sales tax at the DMV so we didn't have to finance the tax. The said that was not allowed DMV doesn't allow that. Well that is a complete lie. We had done that 3 months earlier with a car we purchased from another dealership. So they would only finance through there financing and make the interest off the taxes being included in their financing. After 3 hours of a miserable experience, we finally drove away with the car. Now here we are 3 weeks later and no bill of sale to register the car. We call today and nobody know anything about it. Transferred to the corporate office, and they didn't know what to do either. They said to call our credit union, well we purchased the car from you, so we need the bill of sale from who we bought it from!!! After an hour we are hoping to get it in 10 days ( I'll be shocked if we get it) . What a total joke of a buying experience!! read more

Have you ever gone to a retail establishment several times only to have the last experience so bad that it jades all previous patronages? When Carmax opened in Reno, my dad and I went there. We like cars and this place is almost a heaven with all types of various makes and models. The first several times we came here to look around was met with intrigue and almost wonder as we walked past rows upon rows of vehicles. Customer service was good. Meaning that the used car salesmen would introduce themselves to you and only periodically check on you to see if you had a question. I like that. None of that hanging over your shoulder like a predator. So, it was the last week in January and the weather was really nice. So, we decided to take a walk through the car lot. One thing I noticed about Carmax is every time we go there, I never see the same people! It could be coincidental but seriously, does the entire staff turn over every couple weeks? We have patronizing this location for nearly a dozen times and I should have recognized, at least, one person! That aside. Three things happened to us that persuaded me to go see a regular dealership when I want a different vehicle. We were walking along the trucks and I spotted a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. It had about 150k miles. The interior was nice but the headlights were very cloudy. So, I started to look at this Tacoma, just to see if I thought it was worth the $20,000 price tag that was on it. I stopped short. I got onto my knees and looked underneath the old truck and was met with a sight I should never see in a vehicle that was "quality inspected." Caked on mud across the entire under carriage! If this vehicle was truly inspected there would have been little to zero mud. The mud was about 1/4" thick with no excuse of being there. Even if someone test drove the truck through the mud, it should have been completely cleaned before it hit the lot. I can understand grease and oil. Even my truck with 210k miles has a bit of that. The last two items which killed Carmax for me. We were now looking at a Honda Element. My dad likes those SUVs. The asking was $15k and KBB came back with $10k. The vehicle had over 150k miles and they were asking $5k over blue book? It was at that point a predator pounced out and introduced himself. He saw I was comparing KBB to the sticker. He told me that I should take into account that the car was quality inspected. That means absolutely nothing to me. Tell me was was actually done and perhaps I would have believed it until I saw that Tacoma! Regardless of what he said, there is no way that vehicle should be $5k over KBB. I would expect $500 to $1,000 over. The vulture hung over our shoulders, even though we said we were just looking. We walked 4 cars away and he was still following us. After our verbose conversation of nothing, I would have figured that he would have backed off. Yes, he was the personification of a "used car salesman." Bottom Line ----------------------- No, I will not be going back and I will be informing my friends and co-workers of my experience. This last visit made me realize that Carmax is not trustworthy, over charges and apparently, has the same sales people as most car lots, except it's much farther away than most dealerships in town. She didn't even entertain me for my problem, no hellos, no gretting whatsoever. She just passed it on to the employee under her who's name is Francisco, who made me wait for almost an hour just to reimburse me of a part that's missing from a car I purchased from Carmax, worth $133+. They told me that I have to wait 7-10 days. I drove 20 miles for something that is obviously not my fault. WHEN YOU ARE BUYING FROM THEM,THEY ARE VERY GOOD TO YOU, ONCE YOU BOUGHT THE CAR, THEY WILL TREAT YOU LIKE A THIEF. The people who manages CARMAX should be aware if this. I have no positive comments for this place! I was looking for a certain car and found one I liked here. I came back three days in a row go back and forth with one salesman who PROMISED me he would help. Then, when I made up my mind, we started doing the paperwork and when we got to financing I told him I was going through a loan with my bank he shut down. The smile faded away and I saw his angry side. After a rather heated argument, I was not backing down, I told him I did want this car BUT I need to talk to my bank. I left with the promise that tomorrow I could come back and purchase the car. Holding up my end of the deal, the next day I go back and low and behold, they sold it out from underneath me! With me going in three days, three days in a row looking at it.!! I'm sorry if I'm not an impulse buyer but a huge purchase like that is an important decision for me and I wanted to make sure it was the right one. I ended up calling corporate over this because I was so heated and told them specifically I still wanted to work with them but I DONT want to buy it from Reno. I'd go to Sacramento, Roseville, wherever else. The next day who do I get a call from? The manager in Reno. I said I wasn't dealing with them. He gave me some run around story about what happened but I didn't care. I was done with the whole company for good. And I've been spreading the word around. Oh, by the way, I went to Honda. Much better, better quality, they don't lie to you, and they really do value your service. read more

They suggest they're different and offer an integrity pledge, however, they utilize the same, old, washed-up used car sales tactics: Overpricing their cars (without negotiating price) which benefits THEM, not the buyer, charging enormously high interest rates, and using relentless tactics to sell expensive, unecessary extended warranty "protection". Gee CarMax, if the cars are so impeccable, why do you need warranty protection? Comparing Kelly Blue Book or Edmunds valuations, these guys are 20-50% higher. Don't walk......RUN. Was not impressed with their customer service, nor their vehicle selection. Was told they'd run my credit against multiple different prospective lien holders to see the best APR they could get me. Only gave me CarMax's financing info. Salesperson was not motivated and while going through the app process on the computer, decided to take it upon themselves to add features which upped the cost without asking me first. Made them go back and take it off. Not looking to name names and get anyone in trouble, but please advise your sales people that that's no way to do (or obtain) business from customers. read more

I got pre-qualified, got a phone call from a "nice" guy saying he will help find me the right car and then two weeks later NOTHING! I had to force the man to talk to me! He claimed their computers were down. He said he would send me links...never received anything. Apparently they weren't able to sell cars for the two weeks that I didn't hear from anyone because the computers must have been down for that entire time since no one wanted to talk to me. Went there after seeing there numerous commercials and ads about how they offer a fair haggle free price to buy your used car. After waiting an hour for them to inspect it and test drive it. It was a 1 year old truck with less then 10k miles in it. The kbb on it was 41-44 retail 39 trade in 36.5 wholesale. They offered 30k 8 grand less then trade in and basically 6 grand less then they buy them at auction for. So they're basically a low life used card dealer like all the rest. read more

I am extremely pleased with my entire experience at CarMax! I had an old Chevy Blazer that had a seized engine. After visiting 8 different new and Used car dealers and told that they could not help me I was feeling pretty dejected and lost hope that without a huge down payment of $2.5K or more I would not be able to get a car. On a whim, I submitted an application at CarMax for a car thinking I would get the same response. However, I got quite the opposite. Russ contacted me almost as soon as they opened and said he had great news. I was quite skeptical but listened and I told him about my situation and my down payment of $500. He asked if I could increase it to $750 which was shocking to me that he was not asking for the down payment the others had asked for. I agreed to that and within just minutes he had multiple offers and was able to tell me them over the phone which no one else was willing to do and required me to come in. Much to my shock, I was pre authorized for $18.5K with just $750 down. Because of my past experiences I was very cynical. He suggested that I look at cars $15K and under. I had four saved in my favorites that met that criteria and gave him the VIN of the one I was interested in. He ran the VIN and sure enough got two or three different offers and I picked the one I like the best and we set an appointment to come in later in the day. When we got there, he had the car near the front door and with no pressure just let us look in and around the car and make sure everything worked and it was the car for me. We agreed to test drive it and it was awesome. In just two hours after arriving I drove off the lot in my new to me 2012 Ford Escape 4 WD with just $68K miles. Everything Russ said over the phone held to be true and I opted for an extended service plan but that was not pushed just presented as an option. Since I drive 100 miles a day per day to work and back I opted to purchase it. CarMax has now gained a customer for life and I will not even think of another dealer. I have even recommended them to a co worker and she too was surprised at her interest rate and what she qualified for the low down payment she was approved for. Anyone looking for a car and thinking you do not qualify should give them a try. Russ was awesome as well and we left very happy!!! read more

I would like to start off stating this review is based off my second trip to CarMax. The first time I went to CarMax I was not treated well, but I like to give everything a second chance. My star rating is based off the second visit only. About two weeks ago I was shopping around for a 2015 Jeep Patriot. After having been to several dealers and going through the back and forth, I was done. However, my dad suggest I just pop in to CarMax to see what they have. Upon arriving we were greeted by Trip. I let him know that I was in the market for a 2015 Jeep Patriot and wanted to know if they had any in stock. He took us to one of the computer to check. Unfortunately they did not have any in Reno. I was about to thank him for his time and leave, however he let me know he could check a few other CarMax locations and have one shipped free of charge and no obligation to buy. He was able to find 3 in that I was interested in. I narrowed in down to one in Modesto, and he was able to have it shipped. The same day we were also able to go over potential finance options. I qualified for CarMax financing at the rate I was looking for, which was nice. I had already done my research and been pre-approved elsewhere, however CarMax's rate was better. Trip also explained that I could opt to do the registration my self (assuming I purchase the jeep) and it would save me the interest on the registration. He showed me the final cost of the car, with no extras added and all the math checked out. So often other dealers try to sneak items in and I hate that. I will say that he did push the CarMax Warranty quite a few times over the course of the week and a half it took to purchase the vehicle, which has led to the reduced star rating. If I tell you I don't want the warranty, do not offer it over and over and over again. Still on the same day, I had my truck appraised. While it was being appraised, Trip was honest and advised that I would probably get a better price private party. Which was true as the price offered was a huge low ball (this did not effect my star rating). After all of this, Trip advised that the Jeep was being shipped form Modesto, it would generally take 3-7 days and that I would have 3 days to come and see it when it arrives before it would be made available to others. All of this is perfect. I was sent an email in regards to the Jeep, it basically showed the photos, gave me access to Auto Check and the shipping estimate. All of this happened on a Friday. The car did not ship until the following Friday. That seemed a long time for the shipping, but I still waited. Trip did call me once to let me know it hadn't shipped during that time. It arrived on Sunday per an email notification I received. Trip called me that day as well. This is also where part of the star rating is reduced. When he called he told me the Jeep had arrived and that he hadn't heard from me in a while and wanted to know if I was still interested as there was someone there that wanted to test drive it. I was given a 3 day promise from the day it arrived that it was mine, so why would you allow someone else to test drive it? He also pushed the CarMax warranty on me again and I had to tell him no 3 times. We agreed to meet Monday morning to look at the Jeep. Monday I went to CarMax to take a look at the Jeep. Trip was there to meet us and take us to the Jeep. It looked just like the pictures, and the VIN matched. So no bait and switch there 9that can happen at some places). Upon inspecting the interior I found a rip in the bench seat that was at least an inch long. I let Trip no and he did not hesitate in getting someone to approve getting it fixed for free if I decided to buy the jeep. Took it for a test drive and it went well. Down side to the test drive is that I didn't really get to test out the 4 wheel drive (so I made that one of the first things I did when I bought it). After the test drive we went inside to do all the paper work. It went very quickly and was painless. With the exception of yet again being offered the CarMax Warranty. They took the car through a quick car wash and vacuumed it out (though Im pretty sure they also did that when it arrived on the lot) and put a full tank of gas in it for me. The gas was a great added bonus. We scheduled the interior fix for two weeks out as that is what worked with my schedule and I was on my way. Fast forward the two weeks. No issues so far with the Jeep. Took it in to have the interior fixed. Took a few hours and if you didn't know there was a rip there before, you would never notice now. So great work there. After the great experience I had, my dad is now considering buying from CarMax. The hassle free buying is very nice. read more

I had purchased a vehicle in August of 2015. It was a 2015 Kia Sorento with 17,000 miles on it. I change my oil religious every 3,000 miles. Well got the oil changed and a day later the engine blew. There is no reason an engine with less than 27,000 miles on it should blow. So now my car is in a shop in Los Angeles because it Seems carmax is selling lemons and I may need to seek the advice of a lawyer read more

Overall you can do better with a regular dealer if you do your homework. Found a BMW 335i that I liked but after running carfax, found the car had been in TWO accidents. I thought Car Max didnt sell cars that had been in accidents, oh well. Additionally, by the time you buy the extended warranty you can buy the same BMW as a Certified Pre-Owned from a regular BMW dealer, with better coverage. One thing I have found with he car dealers in Reno a lack of competition drives up prices. Dealers really dont have and incentive to negotiate. I have sold two cars to CarMax and had a great experience both times. The first car was a 2009 Kia Sportage and CarMax offered $2,000 more than the Kia dealership for the car. We probably could have got a little more for the car trying to sell it privately, but saved a ton of time, which is a great trade off. CarMax has the process down really well so you can be in and out in around an hour. The second time we sold an older F150 and got a fair price for it. Again, the process was very smooth and I think we were done with the whole process in just over an hour. The bonus is that we had a locking hitch on the truck that we had lost the key for and one of the guys took the truck back to the shop and was able to get the lock off so we could use the hitch on our new truck!
