So I bought my vehicle almost a year ago.. when purchased I noticed 3 chips in my windshield and brought it to the attention of the mechanics. I was assured they were sealed and would not crack or get worse. Obviously summer was around corner so the temperature change was minimal. Now that winter has happened and the dramatic change in temperatures could effect any chips, nicks, or cracks... my worries came true. My windshield cracked. When I called to ask why this would happen when I was assured it wouldn't. I got the 90 day warranty excuse. And that if I had a problem I should have brought it up then.... Also was given the excuse that the mechanics that worked then no longer work there. How is that my problem. Last but least because they apparently hire only the best there so no notes were put into system about my concerns. Now I am at fault. Thanks carmax! I purchased a car here at the end of February. While looking through my paperwork about a Week later it was discovered I did not have MY paperwork, by had another buyers paperwork. Included in the paperwork I had was also the other buyers credit check. Insurance form and the registry form to transfer her existing plates. I called car max and spoke to Kyle in the business office (his card was attached to the envelope). Kyle told me there was no way I had all that paperwork. Really it's all in my hand. After requesting a manager Kyle put Bernadette(another business office employee NOT A MANAGER) on the phone. She was rude and also said "there is no way out have all of that paperwork". Again really?!? I then asked for a MANAGER and was told they would call me back. About an hour and a half later a woman named Penny called me stating she was a SALES MANAGER, again stated I could not have the information I was claiming to have and stated that they called the other buyer and they have their paperwork and she is allset. I said I am going to call the woman since I had all her Information anyway. When I spoke with the other buyer she told me car max called and said your paperwork accidentally went to another buyer but don't worry as they do not have any personal information ie social security number, drivers license or date of birth. I apologized to her and read her her social, drivers license and dob. She was pissed CAR MAX LIED to her !!! They continue to try to sweep it under the rug. They say it's THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. RIGHT I don't believe it. Then the slap in the face comes to both buyers. They gave us 2 years of credit monitoring. That's all well and good. But I don't know who got my paperwork. I am frightened, but not just because of identity theft but this is a sick world we live in. You just never know. The SALES PERSON WAS AWESOME. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! This place is 100% true to all the stereotypes about used car dealers. I went there with my 2006 Toyota Solara Convertible in perfect mechanical condition. It had high miles, but miles count differently on Toyotas. They told me it will take 20 minutes to perform an estimation and sent me to the lot to check out cars with no pressure. I immediately took a look at the brands and models I liked and I noticed that EVERY single car was 2-$3000 over the average price on Cars.com. Every single vehicles is overpriced. Then my offer was ready...wait for it...$500 for a car that has a V6 engine, all leather interior with a working convertible top. I was insulted and expressed that to the sales guy. He tried to justify the price, I told him to give me my keys and stop wasting my time. That same weekend I had 4 people looking at the car with asking price of $4000 on Facebook market place. I ended up selling for $3500 for cash in hand and only dropped it, because I was relocating in 6 days cross country. Also, it was February, so it is harder to sell a convertible. So, just spending an hour online got me $3000 more. One can make the argument I make $3000 per hour, or SCAM artists like CARMAX are stealing your money. Absolutely Terrible! They appraised my clean 02 suv for a measly $200. I had a receipt with me for the brand new tires, and other things. The tires on it alone were worth more then $200. They did not evaluate my SUV correctly. I have a very clean 2004 Highlander and they offerred me $2,500. 1-month earlier (July-2016) my roommate sold her car, 2004 Nissan Xterra, to them and her car was broke. It didn't work and she brought her car to them by AAA towing! And guess what she was also offered $2,500. They are evaluating any SUV older than 10 years and which have mileage higher than 100k as $2,500 regardless it is working or completely broke. It was an awful experience. I am not recommending anyone. P.S. I got an appointment at 1pm, however Sales Consultant took care of us at 2pm after I reminded them that we were waiting. It was a total waste of time. read more

Experienced Sales Consultant Ray Bachand was exceptionally helpful in finding the specific late model used vehicle I was looking for. I initially inquired about a vehicle I saw online that was at my local CarMax dealer. Ray quickly responded to let me know that vehicle had been reserved for another customer already but offered to keep his eyes open for me. Within a week he found exactly what I was looking for and walked me through the process to get the car transported from Chicago to my location for a test drive. The car arrived sooner than expected and Ray made sure it stayed reserved for me until we could complete the purchase, including two trade-ins for a fair deal without haggling. I have been looking for a car to fit my family and came upon a vehicle I loved at carmax, I called daily getting financials all set sent in forms online and everything so when I had my appointment it would go smoothly. When I got there the person I had my appointment with was NOT who I had been talking to had no idea anything about my situation and low and behold knew nothing about the car I was there to see. He couldn't even open the trunk.... so I drove the car and loved it as expected. I go back to sign some papers and apparently something happened with the financials and when they re did it I wasn't approved. Which okay I get it but this employee had no personality, no compassion, no nothing. I asked him to keep the car on hold so I could wait for a loan I had pending. The next day! I called them to tell them I got my loan and had the money. The person on the phone tells me that the employee didn't reserve it for me and that it had sold. It was honestly just a horrible experience and now buying a car I don't care how great of a car they have I will NEVER use them again. read more

My overall experience for both cars we have purchased could not be beat. No hassle, i shopped around the lot, test drove what i felt like test driving and had vehicles transferred pretty quickly and painlessly. Best way to car shop as you can compare vehicles with ease. They have great selection and with the option to transfer in, it makes your options better x10. My only small issue was my most recent purchase was a car transferred in and when it arrived and i shot over to take a look at it, there was a tailpipe cover that was clearly damaged and muffler came loose. Not huge things, but it concerned me only because those had slipped by somehow. However, they were very accommodating what with the 90 day warranty and fixed them with relative quickness. Overall a fantastic experience. We went looking at a specific vehicle we saw searching their inventory. When we got there the car wasn't what we wanted (no 4WD) so we saw another on the lot that was on hold...never heard of holding a vehicle without them needing your first born, a great concept. We went to leave and I was shocked nobody was stopping us at the door trying to hold us hostage until we bought! A very unusual experience for a car dealer where you normally are held by them using the "what will it take for you to drive this car home tonight" routine or a visit by the general manager - none of that. The car came off hold and we bought it. Got all the paperwork in order and went to pick it up and it hadn't been registered, someone dropped the ball and we would have to wait until the next day. They said they would take care of the registration in the morning and have someone drive it to us (30 miles away). Sure enough, just after noon the next day they showed up and dropped off the car. I don't like haggling for the last $50, I would prefer to see a price and do some research to see if that is a fair price, it was and was an easy task of what is usually a pain. Would recommend it and definitely buy another from them. read more

I was searching for a new truck to replace my old one. Carmax just opened up last Dec so I took a ride there to look around. They didn't have what I wanted or could afford on the lot. I did a search on their site. Found one I was interested in at another dealer. I emailed Danvers and they called me back in 10 minutes saying they would ship to truck to their lot over night. I got info on when it was picked up in transit and delivery. Went in next day drove it loved it bought it. There was no pressure to buy it. Love the way I was treated during the whole process. They even got me better financing. There was a couple of minor things wrong on the vehicle small scratchs and a ding in the bumper that they are taking care of in service dept at no charge. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE! THIS PLACE SCAMS YOU!! I made a call ahead appointment for 6pm today and selected the 3 vehicles ahead of time to test drive. I was told by the sales rep that the vehicles would be sanitized and ready for my appointment. When we arrived on time for our appointment they told us they would call us when they were ready for our appointment and to walk around outside or wait in our car. It's now 8:02pm and we tried calling the office, and received no call back. We waited in the parking lot for 45 minutes and were still waiting for a call back for when they were ready to start our appointment. Silence. I tried calling the manager to tell my experience, no answer or return call back. Unfortunate for them, I was ready to purchase a car in cash today, but will take my business elsewhere since they wasted my time and were not professional enough to call and let me know they were running late when they asked me to wait in the parking lot... this place will SCAM you when you are ready to purchase a vehicle. read more

Hi, I am very disappointed in Carmax, when I went in to look at the vehicle and took it for a test drive there was an issue with the navigation system. I told the salesman I was very interested in the vehicle but I have a small business and rely heavily on navigation to get around. He said he would have it checked out but never did. When I came back to purchase the vehicle nothing had been done about this. Against my better judgement I purchased the vehicle on 8-30-18 it is now 9-28-18 and I still have no navigation. I keep being told the part is on order and we will call when it comes in. I cannot tell you how unhappy I am with my first and probably last dealings with Carmax. read more

I had a great experience selling my car here. I had a 2007 Nissan Murano in ok condition that I was looking to sell. Every person I interacted with here was kind, cheerful, and explained to me what they were doing and why. They kept me up to date on the process and timing, explained everything clearly, and moved me through the process at a reasonable speed (I'd say the whole ordeal took around 45 minutes, which on a busy Saturday seems fair). I was also very happy with the offer they made on the car. I had done some research on the Kelly Blue book value beforehand and they offered me $500 more than what I was expecting. I have purchased many cars in my life and this was with out a doubt the most frustrating and disappointing one I have ever experienced. While the staff were all polite, I fell victim to incompetence on every level to the point that they asked me to bring the vehicle BACK once it was in my possession and under my insurance so that the purchase could be canceled and then redone BECAUSE THEY had made mistakes with the contract. This was just the beginning of the nightmare. Each person who tried to help rectify their errors made additional ones. At no point was any restitution offered. I missed about 4 half days of work. I have purchased CarMax vehicles in the past at other locations with out any drama. So my advice to potential customers of the Danvers location......run. PS. Beware buyers from New Hampshire. This Car Max claims they know how to manage the registration process in NH, but in my experience they do not I would give the website and selection four stars. Athough we paid higher than Blue Book value, we are pleased with the car. The salesman would get three stars. He was able to bring a car we thought we wanted to the Danvers store, but had very little information about the cars once we test drove them. The business office gets one star. We told them we would be happy to manage the registration process. They said they were required to collect the money for registration and taxes, then send us a check to pay for it. The sent a check for the registration, which was made out incorrectly and no check for the taxes. So, we had to pay these costs out of pocket. It got worse when we tried to get our money back. Call one to business office. Person who answers says only the manager can help you and he will call me back in 30 minutes. The manager never calls. Call two to business office the next day. Person who answers says only manager can help me, but he is not in, nor apparently was he in the day before and he is not sure if I will get my money back. But don't worry in the future there will be a Car Max in NH, so it won't happen again. How does that help me? I ask to speak to the General Manager. I explain my issue and total dissatisfaction with the business office. I am told I can mail the wrong check back and they will process it or I can come back to the store and get the money. I drive two hours to the store. No one in the business office knows anything about the issue. I ask to speak to a manager or general manager. I am told they are in a meeting and will have to wait. After 20 minutes, I approach the person who greets people and ask to speak to the general manager. He says the GM will be out in ten minutes. Obviously, there is no rush in helping a customer. The GM gets the business people starting working on the issue. After 15 minutes I am told they cannot refund the money at that point because of computer issues. Did I want to wait until they are solved? All issues are blamed on the corporate office. I am shocked a franchise GM did not have the ability to write a $287 check after I purchased a car for $14,000. Disgusted I give up leave the check with a promise I will be mailed what I am owed in 7 to 10 days. Two weeks later a check finally arrives. It seems everything works great if you are a Mass residents but beware buyers from NH. Also, the business office personnel need serious training in customer service. read more

I was offered an insulting $300 for my 2001 RAV4 with very low miles. Reached out to Senior Buyer Oscar Marin by email and got no response to my dissatisfaction. In the end, I got a tax write-off of $1500 for donating the car to a children's charity. Happy with my purchase, but the trade in experience will have me looking elsewhere in the future. read more

What a great experience. I went to Carmax with my car to sell. I was promptly greeted by a man named Jackie. He mad me feel welcomed and worked out what i wanted to do. I wanted to sell my car and possibly though not likely buy another . He took down my information and took the keys and showed me where to wait. Fresh coffee and free wifi in a modern clean bright building. i had not finished my coffee when he brought me over and present the appraisal and offer for my car. The appraisal was less than what i thought, (but thats probably all the way) yet higher than the dealer buying my car back. They gave me a written offer good for 7 days i told them i would think on it. Explained to Jackie about what a pleasant experience and went on my way. There was no BS just good courteous service. We had very special needs when it came too buying a car,. We had to have a Vehicle that towed behind our Rv with no equipment, meaning four down or dinghy towing. Our sales person, Jeff Hundley, was extremely patient and became knowledgeable to our needs and was very helpful in rendering our final decision process. Jen in finance was very helpful as well and on a return trip, except for the fact that the appraisers ripped us off on our trade that I was able to drive in and did in fact need work but they offered and gave$100 for any$8k kbb pontiac G6 convertible 09. They probably needed to put a few grand into her but could have retailed her for more than double what they had to spend but their criticism and final price was an abomination and an insult. Don't let that take away from the excellent service I received from their sales jeff and Jen and Henry as well. All in the Danvers MASS store. I would buy there again but will never bring a car in for trade or sell. Those guys have you by where they want you and always say... you can walk away if you want... nonsense, be fair not a hog. My car shopping ended as soon as I stepped into CarMax. The place was very welcoming, and like most places I didn't feel overly suffocated with pressure, and fake smiles. The lady who helped me sit comfortably into my new car just after the weekend was Mary. We sat down, I explained what I was looking for, and upon searching for just a few minutes we had found it, a Nissan Altima. A great price, low mileage, and a very clean, nice looking car. She made the process super comfortable, and went through everything with me so I could understand each thing that needed to be done. She offered what would be useful, and she was very real with me on what was useful. I appreciated that. I didn't go till after work, and even though it was closing hours for them, she had stayed about a half hour after just to get things done. The whole buying was a very easy, and helpful experience at CarMax. I definitely recommend anyone looking to give them a shot. Their selection is also endless! read more

Went in with my daughter during a weekday to the new Danvers Car Max so she could look at a couple of Honda Accords they had listed on their website. When we arrived we were asked if we had made an appointment with a salesperson? Huh...an appointment to look at a couple used cars? Was told we could look at the cars in the lot and that a salesperson would call our cell phone when they were available. After 45 minutes and looking at every car in the lot at least 3 times (only on the outside as they were all locked) we gave up and went to another dealer when they still could not give us even a vague idea of when a someone could help us.. read more

I was very surprised about my positive experience at CarMax. I went to try and sell my car only - not replace it - and was shocked how friendly and non-pushy everyone was. I had already had another quote from a dealership and wanted to give CarMax a shot. I was shocked when they came back with a buyout price that was $3k more than the dealer. The experience itself was very quick and would say they didn't even seem to look at the car that long. The reason I am not giving them 5-stars is because through the numerous interactions I had, no one told me it takes them 14 days to send a payoff check. That time frame is excessive and will really make you run around getting your loan provider aligned if your next payment is due somewhere in between those 14 days. Alas, I was very happy with the price I got and would absolutely bring any vehicle you're trying to sell into them for one of their free quotes. read more

Heard about CARMAX from 3 friends whom purchased a car in Danvers. I located the car I was looking for. CARMAX transported it from New Jersey to Danvers at no charge.It took a little longer to get here. Once here, I test drove the car. I really liked the car. The price was reasonable within Kelly Blue Book. I got a FAIR trade value for my car. Nobody pressured me at any time or tried to SELL me something. I even got SIRIUS RADIO FREE for 3 months. My new car was registered right there. My only complaint. They do not inspect the car there. You have to go elsewhere. BUT! CARMAX refunds the $35.00 to you. Believe the negative reviews , some are spot on . I am so glad to be done with some of the staff it's exhilarating to be free. So much so , my truck of only a week since purchase will go to the dealer for repair instead of the CarMax "lack of service " dept. Oh ya the 125 point inspection seems to have missed the main carrier bearing that can be manipulated by hand . The more I had to interface with lack of service dept my level of stress skyrocketed ! This truck is the second truck bought from them they "ordered" some simple plastic parts ...still have not arrived . The "new " truck is still waiting on 25.00 plastic item . It took over 30 days to buy a truck from them . Came in damaged most likely from transport . Aluminum wheel has all scratches and a deep gouge the hubcap was in pieces . they did replace that since it's just a cheap plastic part. nobody is talking about that damage in the way of compensation. So here it is ...like someone said the business model is excellent ! the execution is not ! There is no quality control or accountability even the boiler plate responses from them on this site are very questionable . I sent an email to one for their so called agents and it came back that no one was monitoring that address yet it was responding almost like a bot . Look it's about getting a vehicle that works right out the door ....they can not do that . Beware of the "return policy" as it will cost you a lot to do the return once you lose fees and taxes . You need a private mechanic to check it out before you buy . It will not happen at CarMax . Me ? I am done with them ! We drove 45 mins after picking two cars on their website. When we arrived and checked in we were told a 20-35min wait to talk to a sales rep. After 45 mins I checked with staff on how much longer the wait would be. I was glad to hear we were next. We continued to wait another hour and checked in again. The sales manager told us they were closing for the day. We wasted 4 hours of our time between the drive there, waiting in their lobby for 2 hours and a 45 min drive home. I had to sell my 2006 Chrysler 300 limited edition because I needed a good winter car since I moved. Mechanically, the car is in amazing shape. There is the slightest bit of rust on the floorpan. When I came in for my appraisal, I brought my mother and brother with me since I an young and new to this and the man I met with, Jim, was very friendly and immediately sat us down to talk about my car and then I showed him my car. Afterward, we came back inside and talked a bit more. He started talking to me about my current budget and what I want for my next car. My mom caught on that he was trying to get me to finance with them, which I cannot afford to do at this time. He got really snippy towards my mother after that. Waiting for the appraisal didnt take long, Jim told me mechanically there is nothing wrong with the car but the floorpan is rotted out and the quarter panel needs to replaced and there was an odor detected. I was iffy about the floorpan and quarterpanel but when he said there was an odor detected I knew something was weird. So I asked what the odor was, since me nor my mom and brother knew what they were talking about. We smell nothing. He couldn't tell me what the odor was.. He said my car is at the very most worth $1000, despite Kelly Blue Book telling me my car is between $2700 and $6000, and despite the numerous offers I got from other dealerships for higher prices. A few days later I sold my car to a dealership for $4500, they were amazed by the condition of my 12 year old vehicle. If you are not doing well financially I would highly recommend you sell your vehicle elsewhere, they may just waste your time like they wasted mine. read more
