This place is a shit-show! A perfect example of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing and a perfect example of how not to be a team player (via discrediting information someone on the team has provided). I wish I had read the reviews first. Started with one salesman on Saturday who was in training which was completely okay because he got to learn and so did we through our six hour day of test driving and information inputting. We ran into some issues with one of the banks with information that was posted so it was suggested the bank was called. This dude comes over and says, "they won't budge; I know this company" - how about you actually do some work and not tell us what you think you know. He calls and we get the answer we thought we would. They say come back the next day to complete everything with the exception of the trade in. Come in and they say we can't actually do anything today. What the hell, we spoke to you ON THE WAY HERE! They say, we'll work all day tomorrow and everything will be done when you come in. Came back for day three: a million texts later throughout the day: hey, we need you to do this and this - wait, I thought you said you were taking care of this stuff; this proof of income actually requires three months of history although you've only received one check (says Ed). So, why was it good enough yesterday? Our proof of income outline says you need this for a 1099 the person you worked with the other days is wrong, would you like a copy of that?(says Ed) Yes, please. (I read it) Yeah, this doesn't say that. They sale that no hassle stuff but you damn sure gotta jump through hoops. Come in and work with one person; if you have to come back for any reason, be sure that person will be available because things will change from start to finish especially with too many people involved. The person I dealt with yesterday was rude and while a little more helpful than my original rep, he did nothing to help me solve my issue. Went in to sell my car. Was there for over 2.5 hours. Not many updates on what was going on.. lots and lots of waiting. They say "10-15 minutes " and then 45 go by. Got a great price for my car and the salespeople were generally friendly, but the waiting was brutal. If you go, make sure you have nowhere to be. Also make sure ALL your personal belongings are removed from the vehicle before you even walk in. I had a couple of things left inside and they just drove my car away without saying anything. I had to ask for my stuff, which resulted in even more waiting. If they were honest that the process could take up to 3 hours I would have given 5 stars. read more

Heard about CarMax via an online search and noticed that they will buy any car. So because Woburn Toyota made me drive all the way to their place to only tell me they don't buy, I decided to check CarMax out. All of my interactions with their staff have been so friendly and customer service oriented. They were able to fit me in their schedule to appraise my car on a busy afternoon. John was the person who answered my phone call and was pleasant and open to accommodating me. When I arrived, John wasn't able to help and were told the wait would be 30 mins. That's fine because John communicated that over the phone so I appreciated that he set expectations. We were then greeted my Liz who gave me the best customer experience ever. She told me the appraisal, walked me through everything and chatted with us the entire time until the car was appraised. Normally, I wouldn't want to chat, but she was soooo friendly and personable that the hour flew by!! We talked about our life story and shared interests. Carmax is just so bad. I got offer $4400, which is higher than other I checked. However, when I came to sell my car. They did down my car only $2000 for missing a number on the Title paper. I did sell my car in Carmax because I got busy on work so I have no more time to go to another dealer. Therefore, I will not sell my car in Carmax in future anymore. I gave about three or four dealership the chance to close me on the deal I was looking for a Jeep time to trade in my sports Coupe for a winter vehicle and I ended up where I always buy my car CarMax. Really great, down-to-earth service here. Scott and Steve (I believe) were friendly as soon as I walked in the door with hopes to sell my old car. Although I did not sell my car to them they were extremely hospitable- offering me water or anything else I needed when I was waiting for my car to be appraised. They even offered extra help with title questions and other stuff like that even after the appraisal and outcome were not ideal. I would never recommend to buy a car from this place to anyone they are so quick to get you a buy a car that has the issue and guarantees that they can take care of the issue but when you call they can't find you they have to charge you to find out what the issue is and then they are rude on top of all of that! I had to go through Cheryl John and Rich who supposed to be a manager with a bad attitude to find that they won't fix the problem of the car that Was there when they sold the car without charging a whole bunch of money because it's out of the 90 day grace period because they couldn't find me in they're system! It wasn't until we tried to trade in the vehicle after his recent graduation that we found out that the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4X4 emblem on the back that was sold as a 4-wheel drive vehicle is only a 2-wheel drive vehicle. Pretty easy to make an appointment, but I was dismayed that our salesperson kept his mask below his nose the *whole* time, even when we were sitting at his desk discussing things with him. I almost backed out of the test drive because he went to bring the car around for us and still didn't pull his mask up! So we sat in the small car breathing the same air as this guy who didn't have his mask over his nose. We were in masks, but still. That's unsafe and unprofessional. We saw at least one other person in the store with a mask under his nose, and I saw two employees not wearing masks at all. Needless to say, I'm not coming back. Overall I had a good experience at Carmax Danvers. I love my new car, I liked the website search and mobile app functionality. The selection in Danvers was great and it was even better to be able to get free transfers from other Carmax lots (though the transfers took a couple of weeks to clear which seemed surprisingly long). On the negative side the first sales associate I was paired with was pretty slow to respond, it often took her several days to react to my emails and then sometimes she never responded at all. I finally asked to be switched to a new associate and he did a great job for me. The buying process was easy and professional. I engaged Carmax hoping to avoid the soul crushing visit to a dealer. I put a car on hold, it was pulled away from me, I put a second car on hold, it was pulled from me. I put a third car on hold, paid the transfer fee, received a confirmation due in two weeks. I called during week three and they said it had been received at my local CarMAx in Danvers MA. They were processing it. Three days later I was called back and it had been sold to someone else. Stupidly, I picked a fourth car, they did wave the transfer fee. I called and the car had arrived, yet they lost the titles. All in all done 6 weeks without a car, all while I had to rent a car since my old car required an expensive repair and I decided it wasn't worth it given a car was immenent. However, their appraisal was a huge lowball offer when compared to what Lexus and Honda dealerships were offering me. Their claims that the frame of my car was damaged and that the transmission had issues was misleading and mechanically inaccurate. I heard good things about CarMax so I stopped by to get a quote on my vehicle. The waiting room was nice and the process to request an appraisal was quick. However, when the gentleman came out to evaluate my vehicle, he thought it was a good idea to set his wood and metal clipboard on the hood of my car. The clipboard started to slide off the hood and he put his hand on top of it, pressing it into the paint to stop it from sliding. I should have gone off right away how that was unacceptable treatment to the car/paint, instead I waited several months and decided to write a bad yelp review. I needed a car very quickly and I went on line to CarMax. They show you all the inventory they have. I was able to find a car put it on hold and take it out the next day for a test drive. Fell in love with the car and was able to drive it off the lot the same day. The customer service there was outstanding. No pressure to buy. They even appraised my 22 year old Toyota and bought it. I recently purchased a Ford Escape here. CarMax Danvers has a pretty good selection of vehicles at a reasonable price. Overall we had a great experience with some minor hiccups. The sale staff is trained to apply no pressure during a sale which is different. I'm used to aggressive, fast paced sales staff that are crunching the deal out in day or two. It was nice not to be harassed into a deal. The car was in good condition overall with low miles and the price was right. My advice is make sure to make an appointment and confirm everything over the phone before you go in. I worked primarily with Dallas Gould, and Darren. They both were able to work with my family and show great patience and focus during our sale. Darren went on nearly 6 test drives with us and got us rolling on the deal. They buy your vehicle at a top trade in price. If you think their are a little high on a purchase its because they pay more to get a better vehicle. I have 2- 2015 camry's se one with 14k and the other with 20k. Carmax Danvers offer $14000 19,980k miles Rockingham Honda $12622 less $1200 for reconditioning $ 11,422 for the one with 13,890 miles and both were in the same condition. Rockingham Honda wanted to steal my trade by offering $2578 less by pricing on kelly blue book in fair condition then mark up a purchase $3300 for a total profit of $5878. Carmax markup $3000 to $4000 thousand net profit on the purchase as you can see you are most likely ahead at least by $2000 ahead using Carmax. As a customer I know they have expenses but Rockingham Honda cost you both ways trade and purchase. Carmax only one way . Both outfits are friendly As you can see I trust Carmax more .Great experience. I want to warn people about the horrible business practices of Carmax. I purchased a vehicle from them last August (2018), and was told that there were no accidents on the vehicle. I recently had the engine light come on and was told a part was rusted, and according to their mechanics it was likely due to "the accident". They informed me it HAD in fact been in an accident 17 MONTHS before I purchased the vehicle. They tried to make it seem as though it was no big deal since there had been no major issues in the year I had the vehicle. This is DEALER FRAUD and is completely unacceptable. Their team was no help and was flat out rude, and insulted my intelligence over and over, acting as though I was a moron. Please don't support these fraudsters! read more

I had a very good experience with Carmax Danvers. My experience was a purchase only. I was looking for a very specific type of car (certain features) and the online searching was fantastic. Not only that but the network on locations can ship to each other for free (beyond a certain distance you need to front the bill). This alone is a huge advantage over any other used car option. All local dealers have a relatively small pool of options compared to Carmax's massive selection of cars. Pricing is relatively odd at Carmax. It seems a lot of cars will fit into a particular category and be priced the same, regardless if the years are different and features/mileage should separate them into different categories. Vagueness is difficult. Carmax doesn't like to say online what they do to cars keep them at carmax standards. So when you buy a car, there are certain services needed to keep it in the best condition - good chance carmax only does the basic routine items and anything beyond that (special services needed each 20-50k miles) wont be touched. A small complaint at sale was the push for MaxCare, - carmax's coverage plan. At first I said no but was told more about it. It seemed rather good so I opted for the 100,000 plan. The next day when I returned to finalize the paperwork I nearly signed the maxcare agreement before noticing that the 100,000 miles wasn't me driving it 100,000, it was when the odometer reaches 100,000. This being a used car, it didnt have much time left to reach that mark - why on earth would I pay for a plan to cover this? Why is their protocol to not disclose this as odometer mileage vs. driven mileage once purchased? (As if the miles coming with the car were driven by me). While yes, its my fault for even letting it get this far but it was deceptive. We even did the math on miles per year and how i wouldn't reach that amount (which is a lie based on the odometer terms, which wasn't even noted on the pamphlet). Very tricky, sneaky and dishonest. Anyways, extra car packages are shady at ANY dealer, so be warned and dont jump to conclusions. My main complaint is the financing. I have excellent credit and still was only able to snag a 4.95% APR on a loan. The pamphlets give numbers based on 6 and 10% APR, which is outrageous. I quickly refinanced with a credit union for a 2.69%. Carmax should not be profiting more from their financing than they do with the sales of their cars. Please educate yourself on how APR works and where you can get the best rate. They can extend the loan to 72 months and make it seem like small payments but at 10% you are giving an arm and a leg. While the APR is a joke, the payoff-refi option to move it to my credit union was quick and easy so kudos on that. Overall the process was quick and easy. Very friendly staff and the building facility is only a few years old so it was spacious and new. You can put a hold on a car for a week, which is a huge perk. They have a 5-day no-questions return if you buy a car, another nice perk (better if it were 7 or 10 days) and they also have a 90-day (60 in some sates) automatic coverage plan to fix anything wrong with the car. Business hours are open late which is a big help for us that have day jobs (although be warned not to do your car inspections at night). Overall, I had a very good experience and I'd recommend Carmax. The pool of cars is huge and you have a lot behind you when it comes to being a safe deal. With used cars, it all depends on the individual price (some are great deals, others not so much) and if there are any unforeseen issues. read more

I bought my car from the Danvers CarMax about 2 years ago, I loved every second of my experience with CarMax. I arrived and my old car was taken to see how much I could get for it, I was then able to correctly asses my budget and find cars on the lot within my price range and that had the features I wanted. This was my first time buying a car so I was a little nervous test driving but was happy I was able to! I got to look at 3 cars total, one of the cars had a little damage and the sales rep said if I was still interested in the car she would send it in for repairs before selling it to me. I decided to go with a 2013 Chevy Cruise and I am so happy with my decision. I quickly drove home to clean out my car and grab my title, within an hour I was back at CarMax signing my old car away. I purchased a 2018 Hyundai Tucson today. I found the car on CarMax's website and had it delivered to Massachusetts from Maryland. The sales rep, Kathie, was very good in keeping me informed of the process. The car arrived in Massachusetts earlier than expected. I was not under any obligation to purchase the car. Upon test driving, I agreed to the purchase and used my 2008 Tucson as a trade-in. I was unexpectedly surprised by the trade-in value, and since I was paying cash, the transaction went smoothly. (It also helped that I had all the proper papers with me.) The overall time spent was approx. 3 hours, but that included the test drive, transferring the titles, conducting a trade-in inspection, and signing the appropriate documents.
