So I was convinced this wouldn't work. Just wanted to sell my car - not buy one. Didn't want the Craigslist hassle. Didn't want dealer hassle. Went online, got a quote from CarMax (shade over Blue Book value), showed up, greeted, car whisked away, tested, hour later I had a check for exact amount quoted and a bag with my plates in it. Easy. I did walk the lot while my car was being looked at. Tempting. But the money is needed elsewhere. I have seen the future. It's CarMax. read more

Terrible experience. They illegally sold me a car that can't pass inspection. I have repeatedly been back and forth to the service center. Which claims there is no problem, and 5 different inspection sticker mechanics who claim otherwise. I some more than once to the sales manager, who was no help at all. First off it took a while almost 2 hours to appraise my 2011 Chevy Cruze. But I am satisfied as they honored my online offer and once they looked it over (it was busy today) I was able to sign off on everything, they made it super easy to do. Thank you Nieko A for your assistance! read more

I just arrived home after a smooth, fairly quick visit (with my parents) to sell one of their cars. I was skeptical even though I had heard good reports from friends. I filled information out a day in advance and was given an online quote that was emailed to me. I booked a time to go today and the whole process took between 30-45 minutes and we left with a check for the amount I had received in the email the day before. I wouldn't hesitate to go to CarMax in Peabody, MA again. We worked with Roland and he was terrific to me and my parents and explained everything. read more

this location sold me a car with nothing but problems from the second day I took it home. took it back to them 2x and here we are 1 year later paying to fix same issue 500 bucks later. also sales rep beefs up the max care but any and every claim submitted to them is never covered and everything is referred to section 2 of the contract non covered services. I called the shop at carmax and they said to email my issue and proof of payment what a surprise never heard back.. will never recommend or buy from them again read more

We were selling a used car and used this location. After initially providing a competitive offer of $700, they gave a vague "transmission issue" upon inspection and reduced their offer to $200. When asked for more details, they discussed further amongst themselves and quickly realized that "it's not as bad as they thought" and again offered the $700. Incredibly predatory and outright disrespectful. No apology was given for the discrepancy and clear attempt to mislead us at their benefit. While the process was otherwise smooth, use extreme caution in their judgment. read more

I sold my car to this dealership over 3 weeks ago and my financial institution has not received the payment yet. They sold me a complete lemon and don't want to fix it! Now I'm stuck with a car that has an immense amount of problems. They told me go elsewhere or take out a civil suit against them. They been sued last year for this same exact issue of not doing the 125 point check of every car they sell them as is! In my first 3 weeks of having the car the check engine light came on since I bought the car in September of last year the check engine light been on a total of 12 times for various reasons and MAJOR ISSUES ! My experience at CarMax was quite disappointing. The vehicle I purchased needed some work, which was frustrating, but what really stood out was the service. I was told I would have my car in 5 days, but it took 2 weeks to get everything sorted out. To make matters worse, they removed the remote starter without even asking me. Additionally, the wheels on the car weren't the ones shown online, which felt misleading. I've reached out multiple times and keep being told that someone will call me back, but I'm still waiting (4 weeks). Overall, this was one of the worst experiences I've had when buying a vehicle. I expected much better service. Once CarMax posted a number to call and I contact their customer relations, more was done to help my experience, tho I would not say hassle free. Never ever will I go back to this Danvers MA Location. read more

My husband and I brought a Chrysler Pacifica from Norwood, Ma CarMax in February 2025. It did not have an owners manual with it. I tried purchasing the manual from Chrystal which was a terrible experience as I could not sing on to my account to purchase the manual online. Since Danvers CarMax is closer to us, we went there. It turned out to be a good choice. Joe Graves, in the Service Dept, not only advised us what to do to purchase the book, but he emailed me the link directly so I would have the correct information. After two months, we finally had the book. We are currently being reimbursed by CarMax for the $74.00 for the manual. While we were there I asked Pedro in the Service Dept for a quick tutorial on the mechanics of programming the radio, car phone, etc. Pedro was above and beyond helpful. He took time from his break to give us a 20 minute class on the computer screen. We went home with a better knowledge of our new car and an appreciation for the fact that GREAT customer service can still be found. I am sorry the others had such a bad experience with CarMax, but we found it to be the exact opposite. I also want to give a shout out to Joanne in Sales and Mike in the Business Office in Norwood, MA. They too, made our experience with CarMax very pleasant. Without hesitation, I can recommend CarMax to help with purchasing a car. Thank you, Bernadette and Rafael read more

I recently worked with Carmax in Westborough MA. I received a quote after about 3 minutes worth of filling out forms (on line). It was about 8 1/2 % higher than Carvana had quoted me. Rather than deal with the scammers on Facebook Marketplace, I decided to sell to Carmax. I drove my truck to Westborough, checked in and watched the system work. I was extremally skeptical about it and kept waiting for the high pressure sales pitch to buy a new car or for the low ball offer after they got me in the door. Neither thing happened. They inspected my truck and about 15 minutes later they came to me with the exact same offer I had received on line. Not a penny less. After about 25 minutes of paperwork (paying off an existing loan) I had a check in my hand for the remaining amount. It worked EXACTLY as advertised. ZERO ISSUES. ZERO SCAMMING. ZERO PRESSURE. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!!! ACTIVE, UNRESOLVED ISSUE. Good "deal" on an out-of-state purchase. Nothing but different stories from each person upon delivery. This location does not seem to care about the customer in the least. They assured nothing else was needed after an initial visit following delivery. Many days of work were missed and schedule adjustments made to accommodate CarMax, with no consideration. Management made repeated promises and did not follow through. Noone has honored their word and the lack of communication/empty promises/run-around you get is sure to raise your blood pressure. Formal complaints and potential lawsuit costs on the horizon for this location due to this active and unresolved issue. Car has undisclosed, hazardous (anti-freeze blowing into the vehicle-deemed dangerous by a certified BMW mechanic) problems that only BMW should be trusted to repair. Carmax refuses to "go above and beyond" to ensure their customers come back. It certainly seems as though they do not care about the safety of their consumer, the customer's time and adjustments made, with their "get here now" (3 times in the same day!) approach or building a network that could bring them much more business. Unacceptable so far, and unresolved as of the time of this post. Will update this review if they make good on their word. As of now, I have no idea how they're even in business. Every step since delivery has been mind-blowing...and not in a good way. read more

Do not purchase from this dealership if you're getting a car transferred from another location, and/or if you expect there to be an open line of communication from the sales team to the service department. Although I pointed out that the camera used when reversing the car was broken with the representative, Brooke, when we went on a test drive, and then clearly articulated this problem half a dozen times more via email to make sure they had it serviced, I encountered the same alert the day after I purchased it. I then tried to get a hold of Brooke and her supervisor in sales, Erasmo, and both times was transferred directly to the Service Department. I spoke with John Moriarty (who was terrific actually) and he told me that they never received a service request for the backup video camera from the sales team. My brain nearly exploded. So I decided to take it to BMW to get it looked at, and they told me that the car had been in a serious collision where the wire between the back tire and the bumper had actually been severed. (Note: one of the biggest selling points of the car was that it was "accident free.") After getting my car repaired, I tried and failed the MA Inspection four times because the On-Board Diagnostic system, even after driving it over 500 miles, kept reporting that it was "Not Ready" to be tested. I've since received and completed four surveys from CarMax asking me to rate my experience and write about what happened, and have never received a follow-up or an apology for the experience I had. I've continued to tell friends and family who mention CarMax that they should stay as far away as possible. To avoid a headache, you should do the same. read more

I'm not a fan of the "bro" dress code (ultra casual, shorts, tats, beards, long hair, etc.) but that is no doubt a function of my age bracket. I also believe in being treated with respect. Not a big thing at CarMax. You can "make an appointment" to test drive a vehicle, but they don't see it as an appointment - you will wait until someone is available. In my case, I waited 30 minutes with zero communication from anyone and left. They clearly don't think your time is of any value. Went down the street to the Volvo dealership and bought the car I wanted. read more

Well, we did get a nice car at a pretty good price and that part of the experience was enjoyable. I like the lack of pressure--none of the "you have to decide right now" attitude. now the bad... the very bad... it took us three hours to pick up our car. We made an appointment and were there on time. So we waited... and waited... and waited until someone finally did the paperwork for us. Then we were told it would just be a few minutes until we got our car. Those few minutes turned out to be well over an hour... different people were trying to find out what was going on and no one seemed to have an answer. Everyone was polite and apologetic but there seems to be a real lack of organization Let me repeat... three hours to pick up a car. Well, the car's nice, at least. But other places have nice cars and I've never had to wait as long as this. Not sure I'll be returning. read more

Made a same day appointment online to sell our car at CarMax, Danvers arrived on time was told their were a few people in front of us, ok not a problem. Waited about 10 minutes, was asked if the quote we received online was agreeable and it was would be be selling it today, we said yes. They test drove the car and offered us $800.00 more then what we expected, she went over all the paperwork with us, issued us a check and off we went. we spent about an hour in total from arriving to receiving our check, overall a very good experience. Bought a car for over 20k. Received only one key out of two given, because one of them was for the wrong vehicle. I did not test my keys right away like I should have and that's on me, but to be honest it was the last thing on my mind. Called the service department and they told me to go to Ekeys for cars and then basically send Carmax the bill after, well i did that but they could not help because the internals of the key was for a completely different vehicle. A new key is around 500 dollars. By the time I called back no one knew what I was talking about...So i ate the cost. Sad service from Carmax. read more

Carmax itself is a great company I have owned 3 cars from them. However this exact place is not run up to the standards that I have come to expect from carmax. I usually don't post anything bad for organizations as I truly really appreciate our economy. Especially during these times of folks really needing assistance financially. All I can say is this place is absolutely horrendous. The customer service is subpar. But listen most of the employees are kids trying to figure out what they want to do in their lives so I always give a benefit of the doubt. But here is my tale with this operation in Danvers: I get my truck appraised. Appraisal is fine. No complaints. The problem came to the actual sale of the vehicle. I knew my title would take some time to come in the mail due to post office delays with COVID. So I called ahead to Carmax customer service and was told Massachusetts is a "E Title" state. So I go on on August 19th and was told face to face they cannot buy the vehicle because my RMV status for my title was listed in red as "returned." Which means I moved before I could receive the title and forgot to update my address at the time. TOTALLY my fault. So I call to get my title mailed which take 7-10 business days from Monday 8/23 so I didnt know when I will get it. HOWEVER, I log into my RMV account and the title says "Active" in green which is exactly what the manager said I needed. TO EVEN MAKE SURE a step further before I go there 8/26 (last day of my appraisal-I am moving so I need to get this car sold), I called CarMax in Danvers again. I told them the story explicitly and they assured me (and put me on hold to even triple check with the branch) that I was fine. But low and behold, I was told I need the physical title. Which is fine, but why am I being told different things both face to face and over the phone before I physically drive there. It is either they dont give a sh*t or they are incompetent. Either way, don't waste your time with these individuals and go to KBB to redeem your cash offer with a dealership. I dont know how Carmax operates as an organization, but this branch is absolutely horrendous not just from an operational perspective but just from a mental capacity standpoint. read more

I really enjoyed buying a car from CarMax Danvers!!!!! This is not like buying a car from Matilda's step-father! CarMax is redefining the what is means to be a used car salesman. The entire proses is very transparent I mean extremely open and honest. You can start your search by looking over their nicely laid out website that easy to use with REAL images of your car not a model. Then find the car that you like then put it on hold and set up a day and time to test drive. I had the absolute pleasure of having Mr. Manny Fret be my car salesmen for not one but 2 cars. He's laid back and knows that the cars sell them self. He's not pushing on making you look or buy a more expensive cars or even a car that is not a right fit for you. On top this he's a America hero he proudly served our Country. Any company that hires our brave men and women is a company that I want to do business with. Mr. Fret grew up in MA so he knows 1st hand the highways we speed on carefully slowing down when we see a stateE (oh shit is that a cop FML!! Good it's not) and the back rounds we take to beat the traffic. He knows the winters we have and how paramount having a reliable car means to us Bostonians. May not seem like a big deal to many but it is as CarMax is fairly new to us up east and the company is bringing people from all around the country to work here in MA. For the parents they have a small play room that is located perfectly were you can see and hear your kids and still go over the paper work. You deserve a nice car that you are proud driving in. The peace of mind that comes with buying a car from CarMax and mainly Mr. Fret is priceless. If your buying, selling or trading your car in here you have come to the right place. Your in good hands around a smart and honest group of people that know that buying a car is suppose to be a claim and truly open honest and fun one. I drove in to CarMax with a rental and no money and drove out with a great car that my family love and that I have fun driving. When you drive in ask or contact before hand Mr. Manny Fret (978) 774-9370 Manny_Fret@carmax.com Tell him that Mick send you. read more

My wife and I went to visit Carmax this last weekend to have them appraise her car -- it was not a pleasant experience. My wife made an appointment well in advance, filled out the paperwork online, hoping that would make things go a bit smoother once we arrived. No such luck; when we got there we were told to wait in the lobby, which was definitely more crowded than I would have liked. We waited... and waited... after 45 minutes someone finally came by to help; we took him out to look over the car. After that it was another 15 minutes parked in the waiting area (with even more people this time, eek). Finally an associate came over, took us to her office and showed us the offer number, which was basically a low-ball-- less than what a couple of dealers had offered for trade in, and well below blue book. In other words: a big waste or our time. We went to an independent dealer/buyer later that afternoon and sold the car on the spot for about 20% more than the Carmax offer, much better experience. Can't see myself going back to Carmax any time soon. read more

It was a fine experience. I set up an appointment to sell my car, got there about 10 min early, and was out within an hour. The price was OK for an OK car. Easier to go in and ask questions than call, though -- so be prepared for that. I waited like an hour on hold before giving up. read more

I sold a 2020 truck to CarMax. I got a quote online from CarMax that was much more then the trade-in value I thought i could get from the dealer of the car I was purchasing and also $7,000 to $8,000 higher than KBB trade-in value. I was suspicious of the quote and figured they would try and negotiate it down, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I arrived at the CarMax in Danvers, MA 20 minutes early for the appointment i made online. They took me early and started the process. I waited in their clean waiting area while the sent someone out to look at my truck. 15 minutes after arriving there they simply said, we will honor the online quote. 20 minutes after that i had a bank check in hand. Every person, from the salesperson that greeted me at the door, to the person that looked at the truck, and the business person that did the paperwork and handed me the check were very polite, professional and a pleasure. WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to sell their car rather then negotiate a trade-in at the dealer they are purchasing a car and all the games they play. Yes, you dont get to deduct the value of the trade-in from the purchase price for sales tax, but I received 3 times that potential tax savings in a higher price. Very happy with the process and the people at CarMax. I dont normally write reviews but I couldn't wait to tell folks about this experience. read more

When we were stopping at dealers on this strip Carmax wasn't even a thought. I fell in love with an Acadia that another dealer had and asking too much for. After looking online Carmax had the best prices we had seen anywhere so far! We went in and they had the best service too! No hoops to jump through just to look, like other places who wanted us to fill out pages of crap for a car we may not even like. They had so many options on site and also the option to transfer in from other locations. We got ours transferred in. Loved the service, got a good price for our trade, great price on a fully loaded vehicle (lower than base at another dealer), and everything was done quick and painlessly. read more

I would just like to personally let the public know.. DO NOT SHOP AT CARMAX! I have gotten the run around for one week now and still no car. They have made several mistakes that has cost me unnecessary stress and straight up wasted my time. None of these issues were even attempted to be corrected. Said "managers" never reached out as promised. The title to the car I was set to buy was "lost"? I was left on hold for unacceptable lengths of time and disconnected or told "so and so has gone home for the day". Oh and to boot, CarMax also "lost" my personal information that was sent to the bank lender. Once the information was re-processed to the lender, CarMax gave them THE WRONG VIN NUMBER. CarMax has remained non apologetic throughout this whole process and currently still I am left in the dark with no answers, a pit in my stomach, and a massive headache. I now am at Nissan Kelly of Lynnfield. They accepted me as a new customer right away, I was able to test drive the same (but actually better) car that I was hopeful to buy from CarMax, and will be driving it off the lot as soon as paperwork is completed. Thank you Nissan Kelly of Lynnfield for saving the day! CarMax- you lost a solid customer, a nurse on the front lines during a global pandemic. I could say more of what I think but I'm a professional, unlike your company, so I'll let this be the end of my rant but just remember negative reviews get more notice than the positives! read more
