This is purely a review based on my experience with their car appraisal and purchase services. I brought in my wife's 2002 Dodge Intrepid that had only 12,000 original miles on it. They were amazed at the condition this car was in and they touted it as a car they could sell. They took it for a test drive and appraised it and had me thinking I was going to get at least a decent value and avoid the hassle of selling the car myself. After wasting an hour of my time they finally came back to me with my appraisal. First of all, they offered about half of what I could (and did!) sell the car for myself. On top of that, they decided that after wasting an hour of my time, THAT would be the time to tell me that their policy is to NOT purchase any cars older than 10 years of age (unless its an exceptional Porsche or classic car I believe they said). Well that's all fine and good but someone could have just told me that up front. I understand they need to make some profit but why tell me my car is worth X when they won't even buy it anyway? Why not just tell a person up front that,"sorry but your car is not within the age range that we purchase". I would have happily left with no hard feelings at that point. Instead they used this as a means of trying to get me to do a trade towards one of their cars, which I had already told them I was not there to do. I feel like I fell for false advertising and basically had my time wasted in a bait and switch situation. As a result I never intend to shop there for a car because all of their advertising touting their lack of the run-around that you get from other dealers' is obviously not the case given my experience with them. So if you have a car older than 10 and you wish to sell it... Do what I did and just do the "hassle" of selling it yourself. It honestly wasn't any harder than selling something at a garage sale in the end and I got $6500 vs the $3200 they told me it was worth (not that they would buy it). read more

Stopped by just to see what was available and I was constantly harassed. I felt uncomfortable the whole time I was on the lot, the people were just to high pressure for my liking. Also the quoted me the price on my trade in and it was $1,600 less than one dealer and $1,800 less than another one. So that and their pricing on their vehicles is why I'll never step on a Carmax car lot again. Save yourself a hassle and shop around but don't waste your time at Carmax. read more

I visited Carmax on Friday October 12th to have my 2017 Nissan Leaf appraised. I was given Patrick Kalista as my agent who failed to introduce himself or shake my hand. He took the info needed to start my appraisal and asked if I had any questions. I asked him if the appraiser had any experience working with electric cars. I told him I was concerned about the test drive they would do as I didn't want them to drain my mileage range, as I still had to drive the vehicle back to Grove City. I told him I didn't want the appraiser to do anything stupid that might harm the vehicle. He assured me the appraiser was capable of operating my EV. He also said he would tell the appraiser "not to do anything stupid", in a somewhat sarcastic tone. I sat down in the waiting room, Patrick had said there were 2 appraisals ahead of me. I soon realized that I could see the rear of my vehicle in the reflection of the windows ahead of me. I glanced at my vehicle often and after about 25 minutes saw a gentleman raise the rear hatch of my car. He went in out of my view several times and at one point took a photo of my vehicle. To my knowledge, he never drove the car. He walked back in to the store and after another 20 minutes or so, Patrick brought me a printout of the appraisal. I read the large print offer and of course you always think the price they offer is not enough. Having said that, I actually sold a car to Carmax 5 or 6 years ago, but this offer seemed surprisingly low. As I read over the finer print, I saw where they declared I had a ding in my rear passanger door. "that's news to me", I told Patrick. I insisted he come out to the vehicle with me to show me this "ding". On the way to the car, Patrick said "we may have to replace the door". When we got to the car, I immediately noticed the dent. This was very odd. I had hand washed and towel dried the vehicle the day before and there was no ding. I had immediately pulled my vehicle back into my garage and did not drive the vehicle until leaving my house to come to the appraisal appointment. I had also sprayed tire wet on my tires the very morning of the appraisal without seeing any damage to the car. So, I am confident there was no mark on that car when I pulled on to the Carmax property. I left the lot, wanting to go back to my garage and look at the vehicle under that lighting. Maybe I had just missed it. However this was not the case. The ding was clearly visible. My car was damaged at Carmax! I immediately called the dealership and spoke to Shawn, the manager, and explained my position. I think the appraiser did the damage. On my paper work it lists the appraisers name as Michael L. and I think he was offended by me questioning his abilities. Of course, Shawn defended his employee. He said maybe the ding was from some other customers car door that had bumped mine. I told him that would be ironic that after owning the car for 16 months, I come to his lot and it gets damaged. Besides, I was parked on the end of the line next to the curb and I am aware when that happens and always pull as close to that curb as I can, thus allowing more room for the car next to me, further decreasing the chances of a car door ding. Shawn stated that this appraiser had over 10,000 appraisals and my car was in good hands. Yet, why was my vehicle in the "running" mode when I got in to leave the dealership? Obviously, Michael L. knows a lot less about EVs than he is telling. I know I can't prove any of this, I told Shawn that. I realize I will have to repair my vehicle, I told Shawn that also. BUT, I was told by Shawn that he would look into this AND GET BACK WITH ME. I am writing this review 8 days later. How much time does Shawn need! I think it's obvious. Michael L. was pissed off and purposely damaged my car. I really don't think that is a stretch. If you have a manager that is a LIAR then having an employee under his watch being a vandal, is quite possible. Don't do business with Carmax. Buying or selling, they have no qualms about ripping you off. read more

This was a terrible experience I traded my car in they never even cleaned the inside from the previous owner I actually waited for them to clean it and it was supposed to been all done I did not realize the car was not even wet on the outside where they were supposed of washed it as well so I called and they told me to bring it in the next day I waited over an hour still they did not clean my car I asked for management he did not seem to care so when they brought my car out to my surprise it still was not clean Properly And now I have to bring my car in again to have it cleaned what a nightmare read more

We took our car in to have a minor problem with a little touch screen on the dashboard repaired. We had bought 3 car's from CarMax so we assumed they would treat a repeat customer right. Boy were we wrong!!!!!!!! First, they refused to fix the touchscreen on the dashboard. The blamed us for breaking it even though when we took it to another dealership they completely disagreed with CarMax. Then my wife had scheduled an oil change at the same time. After doing the oil change they said she could take the car. When she did, she drove it less than a mile and the engine began to make a popping noise. Then it began to drag something. She immediately turned around and drove it back. They caused a metal skid plate to be torn off by not re installing it correctly after the oil change. They of course blamed her and said she hit something. When we took the part to the real experts at the Honda dealership, they immediately told us what happened. The guy didn't re install the skid plate. However, will CarMax pay for the skid plate? No way. Will they pay to fix the little touch screen? No way? So we took the car in for minor warranty work and left with a car that wasn't fixed and couldn't be driven in the rain. I'm not a mechanic, but I could have done that! And it wouldn't have caused me any aggravation. Soooo, what did local management do, absolutely, nothing. In fact, they were as rude as they could be. They seemed to be intentionally aggravating. The didn't return calls and we were just left with a "it's your problem not mine", attitude. This is our third car and we need it to get to and from work. Without this vehicle, we are not going to be able to get to work and school. That is not just a problem, it's devastating. But CarMax doesn't care read more

Bought my 3 mini van from here on Aug 31St. There was a recall on my van and I took it to my local Honda dealer. During the last week and half my tire pressure light came on only during the cold mornings and go off when we've been getting up into the 80's. I asked the Honda dealer to check my tires to see if I need a new sensor or just air. Well my tire pressures were good , so I probably need a new sensor soon. I called service only to find out that they're closed on weekends! I called my salesman and explained why I can't get there during the week due to my busy schedule and I live over 40 miles from this location. So I called yesterday, 9-16, and spoke with a Karen and a Gretchen both women were very rude to me when I explained that weekdays my schedule doesn't permit me to drive all the way there and back home to pick kids up from school. I asked was there another alternative and they said no. Then Gretchen says to me this doesn't benefit you is why you can't bring it in then cuts me off while I was talking and sends to me Sean a sales manager who basically told me the same thing. Leave your van on a Sunday and you can pick it up when you can. Which since Saturday's are my only available time, I'd have to go 6 days without my van for only a 1.5 hr job to replace a sensor! I told them I'll be calling corporate and he said "go ahead". Very sad they only care about selling cars then pushing you aside. Only good thing about this place was our salesman Brody. He went out of his way to make sure we got our appraisal for our old van and got our new van just in time to listen to the buckeye game on our way home. read more

For the first time I purchased a car from Carmax at the Easton location. There were a lot of positives about how Carmax works and a few not so great happenings that I would like to share. Let's start with the positive. Indeed there is no haggling Price is the price is the price on the car. Myself I like to haggle a little bit but it was easy that way. I found by checking the price on Edmunds true car etc. that the price they were asking was a fair deal. I also found that the appraisal process on your current vehicle seem to be very fair in fact my car came in at about $500 higher than what Kelly's bluebook and a couple other Internet sites showed so I was indeed happy. Initially I wanted them simply for an appraisal so I had something in mind when dealing with other car companies. I can also say on a positive note that the communication is very good both online phone calls etc. Now a little bit on the downside. The sales person I had although an extremely nice gentleman was not much of a sales person. I knew exactly the model and the color of the outside and inside of the vehicle I was looking for. We did find one out of state but it really was beyond my price range. I went home I then did some additional searching online and found the same exact car, One year later and approximately $5800 less, this met my budget. I thought the sales person should have taken the initiative to do the same thing I did. I did purchase the car. One thing that I was surprised about was the amount of time it took to do the paperwork. Part of it was the sales person but part of it is the fact that their software is not very user-friendly. On an up note the speed of time that it took to get my car from the state of Georgia was very swift. Once you order a car you will get a car page on the net and they will update you as to the status. They will let you know when it's preparing to ship to ship etc. My only real complaint was the condition the car was when I drove off the lot. The staff that supposed to clean it really doesn't do a good job. The windows were smeared there was brake dust on the wheels and dirt on the leather interior. When I got home I took some leather conditioner and clean the leather right up. I do have a secondary appointment with Carmax as they need to add a license plate holder for the for Front of the car, rub it out some scratches on one of the alloy wheels and most importantly on the passenger side there is a section strip from bumper-to-bumper that has some sort of clear overspray. The good news is it seems to buff out fairly easily and they're going to take care that for me. I found this overspray almost immediately why didn't they?? Bottom line I found Carmax to be easy to work with but as a consumer check out the car and don't hesitate to ask them to make good anything you think they can help you out with. Good luck on your car dealings. Update: I made an appointment for Monday at 1:30 to have the overspray corrected. When I made the appointment it was implied that I could wait for the car. When I get there the gentleman that I booked the appointment with was off for the day and found out that I couldn't wait but the good news is they would give me a loaner car. Although the loaner car was clean it sure did stink! I was told that it would take approximately five hours for them to complete the overspray. It is now over 24 hours upon contacting Carmax I was told it would undoubtedly take another day! This time excuse being That "a couple of the guys called off today". Don't you love it when a company makes their problem your problem. So here I sit without my car and I really don't want to drive in the stinky one. To be fair Carmax told me they could swap out the loaner but it's a 40 minute trip one way and having to be there three days in a row is a bit much. So with this said I'm afraid of had to drop them down a star. read more

You can work with the same sales person from start to finish and they don't try to take you into some back office to up-sell you. I purchased my car from here in April of 2017. My SRX was making a funny noise. I called the service department and they said it would be 5 days before they could look at it. I called Germain Cadillac of Easton and they said bring it in the next day. Germaine Cadillac diagnosed the problem and fixed it the same day! As so I had lost my car in and accident and found a 2006 Chevy cobalt at carmax. It was on the old side of what I was looking for but it had nice features (sun roof, hands free calling) also only 30k miles and "clean" carfax; I was not expecting for my budget (10k). I appreciated that they let me and my boyfriend look at and test drive the car without them around. And how flexible they are with everything (reason for 2 start). So After a 10min test drive and the dealer excusing himself so we could decide to buy it or not. We decided to buy it and took it home. First complaint after a 6k down payment and all the other stuff they added on the car (blue book is 4K value) it ended up being a 14k dollar car!!!!! Secondly only later did I find out they ran my credit report 6 or more times dropping my score 15points I have notice more since so I don't know how many other will be on their!!! After taking it to my dad to look at it (he's has done almost all the work I have had done on my cars (I.e. Replace parts) he says it has been crashed. Almost the whole passenger side front end had been replace or fixed and the clear coat essentially "buffed" away. I was going to have a machine look at it. Until After a 30 min further drive the engine smelled of radiator fluid burning and had a high pitch running noise also noting half the buttons on the steering wheel didn't work. I decided to skip the mechanic and take it back after only 26hrs of owing it. On the way to carmax I heard the engine noise and smelled a hot almost probably more accurately a burning smell from the car. Miraculously I made it their alive but scared to death to drive the car. They took it back with no problem but they hounded me try to sell me a new one. The down side is that they said it could take 2 weeks to get my down payment back!!!!! But a stop payment with the bank will take car of that. Lessons *ALWAYS HAVE A MECHANIC LOOK AT THE CAR * if it's to good to be true then don't go for it * DO YOUR RESEARCH * can't always trust car fax!!!! If y'all want to try and deal with them just please please please do research on what ur buying!! read more

I purchased a 2009 BMW 328I with 57,000 miles on it in June of 2017. Within 4 months, I had to replace the starter at a cost of $1200.00. Now, I'm approaching 6 months and the car has to go back into the shop because I'm hearing a very loud noise under the hood. Not to mention, a few days ago I thought the front right tire was only to come off. Pending the finding of the problem I'll be going to see a lawyer. I think CarMax has sold me a lemon. read more

Not at all happy with the experience or vehicle. The staff was not very friendly and they spent more time talking with each other than us. Against my better judgement I ended up purchasing a car from them. This was 4 months ago in January. The day after I purchased I noticed that it looked like someone had deliberately scratched the windshield. I called CarMax and asked if it could be repaired with it being within the 7 day return policy and was told no it wouldn't be covered. I then stated I would just return the car if it would not be covered which in return was told I could bring it in at no cost, which I appreciated. The service times were not very friendly to a working mother with 2 children but they got it repaired. Now that it is warmer out I have realized I was sold a car with no air conditioning. I have called CarMax and was told it is not covered and to call Honda because maybe the parts could be under warranty if anything. After calling Honda I was told it would be $350 to do the inspection, evacuation, and recharge not covering anything else if it is something further. The particular model that I purchased has refrigerant that is far more expensive than most. I have had a local body shop look at my car and could be looking at up to $1800 to repair. I am extremely upset with CarMax for selling me a car that does not have working AC and was not told that up front. Not to mention it is not covered and they told me to go to Honda. Their overall service needs work!! Will not purchase from them in the future or recommend them. read more

Always check the car fax before buying at car max! A few years ago, I purchased a Honda civic at car max. A little while later, I had a minor crash. The insurance adjuster couldn't believe that the car didnt have a salvage title. He said that the car had been nearly totaled, in a rollover crash or in a flood, and that the body work was completely shoddy. My personal feeling is that the car was in a flood due to the fact that the car has numerous electrical issues and a funky smell to it. What's more, I recently found out that a friend of mine had the exact same thing happen to him and he was able to successfully sue car max and get his money back. I will never buy another car here, but I just may try to sell them this one back to see if they'll take it. read more

All of the people that work their are really nice. My salesperson contacted me after I had requested to look at a certain car. She also asked me what I was looking for in my vehicle. I was able to look at several online and the one I picked was out of town so they had it sent in. The only downfall was they had to run a credit check on my wife and I several times because they said it kept on getting lost in the system. The car buying experience was excellent however, while I waited on my car to be cleaned and prepped in the service department I wait probably over 45 minutes when they already knew I would be in within a half an hour of them opening at 10am. Once I finally got my car I found several pieces of trash in the car(a hotel key card, a note from someone not directed at me and other bits of paper) the windshield was not cleaned very well either, it looked like someone cleaned it with a greasy substance. This was my 3rd purchase from a Carmax within the past 10 years and because of my experience with the Service department and their lack of attention to detail I doubt I will ever return to buy a car from them. I also, took my car in earlier this week and just picked up yesterday and still no one bothered to clean the windshield. I would have said something but it was obvious to anyone that the windshield was not done with much care when I took initial possession of the vehicle. Overall, my rating of this experience is poor and that is being polite. read more

When I had purchased my car I added on the extended warranty with the $0.00 copay. I have taken it in before for other issues and everything has been fine was well taken care of. Even though due to my work schedule I had to drop car off the night before service and pay a deposit for the rental until the authorization came through for the warranty group the following day I was ok with so I didn't have to miss work. I had got an oil chance else where and explained I was hearing a noise with the wheel and tire and they would look at it and said to take it to the dealer and have them look at the ball bearing. This time when I take it to Carmax the personnel were very nice however after looking at the car they said that the sound was due to ice buildup. (it has been very cold and not above 25 for several days so I though ok it may be possible) They also said they let it melt drove it around again and didn't hear the noise anymore. I think ok maybe that really fixed it... long story short. The sound is still there though more quiet than it was and they charged me more than $50 for "diagnostic" which was really melting the ice then because that isn't covered under the warranty (and a wheel bearing is covered) I had to pay for the rental. If I had a garage with heat or it would have got warm enough outside they couldn't claim this ice was the problem. So in reality they charged me for my car to sit there and melt read more

I looked at a Grey 2012 Chevy Malibu with 24k miles on it. The car was stickered for $13999 but the sales person told me she would get me 12998 for it. I took it for a drive and took it to one of my family's nearby fleet garages and the fleet manager there (aka my sister) took time out of her busy day to check it out for me. She told me it was a good car so I returned and bought the car -the only car I looked at there- that day. On the next day they called me and advised me that they had delivered the wrong vehicle to me, when they had sent the service personnel to get the car ready for delivery they had told them to get the grey malibu and the service personnel grabbed the wrong grey malibu. Then they said that I was going to have to bring back the car I had or give them another $1000. To my great disappointment upon reviewing my contract they had told me they were selling me a 2012 Chevy Malibu with 24k miles but they put me into a sales contract for a 2011 Chevy Malibu with 33k miles on it. I went right then to see the car they were saying was the one I had actually bought but when I got there the sales manager could not show us the car, then we found out the car they put in my contract was black. I only looked at the grey 2012 malibu, I never saw the car the put in my sales contract and I am not aware whether it was ever even there to begin with. My sister confronted him about the car not being grey like he had told us was what had caused the original problem and the car not being available for us to see. The sales manager became very loud and very abusive toward my sister and started belittling her to me. The sales manager told us the sales person I dealt with would be in "tomorow" and that he would find out what happened. I went home and submitted an online complaint to the Ohio Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau and then talked to my neighbor that told me they had done the exact same thing to her. I called my uncle and his advice: take the car back and get my money back. I decided I didn't want to do business with CarMax so the next morning I returned to Carmax and asked for my sales person but was advised that she was off that day too. I did not want to deal with the sales manager alone and took my fiancee and my sister with me. My sister noted to me that the sales manager had told us my sales person would be there and then they changed their story and said she was just running late. At this point I definitely did not want to do business with them anymore. We asked for the sales manager and were left in the waiting area for around an hour at which time he came out and started making demands. I felt very intimidated and teared up, my fiancee put himself between myself and this bully and my sister stopped the sales manager mid-tirade and told him I was there to return the car and then he became hostile towards her and my fiancee and then tried to separate me from them. My sister stopped him then too and he continued to shout and verbally abuse us. After he finally relented and I was able to return the car we went to the cashiers office to get my down payment back. They told me they could not give me back my down payment and would mail me a check. I did not want to leave without my money because at this point I did not trust them at all. So I told them I wanted my money back and they told me I would have to get it approved by my bank and it was the banks fault I couldn't get my money back. I called my bank and advised them what was happening and they transferred me to the fraud department and recovered my funds for me. I had hoped driving off of that lot would be the end of it however later Monday afternoon the phone calls started. At first they were saying I had left personal property in the car and had to come get it, by Wednesday the calls had devolved to threats that "it would be in my best interest to come back and take the deal because I had dared to complain to the BBB and the Attorney General's office." I am absolutely appalled at the bullying tactics and veiled threats that they have leveled against myself and my family. We will never ever again even consider doing business with them in any shape or form ever again, and I hope you don't either. read more

My OVERALL experience was great ! Dennis Clark is who helped me out with my purchase and he was great ! He didn't try pushing me over my limits, didn't try pushing me into anything I didn't want & my purchase was all about me and what I wanted or could afford. HOWEVER their car service is not as great. When we test drove the car I purchased we brought up a back speaker being blown, which was fine and dandy because they said they would fix it free of charge because I had a 30 day warranty and all that jazz. Was told they would call me Monday. They didn't call until later in the week, not my problem with them. But I was told my rental would be free of charge and I would drop my car off Wednesday evening and pick it up Thursday evening after work. Great. Go to drop it off & they brought up charging me for the rental ( not happening ) then proceeded to tell me I would have the rental longer due to them having to order the speaker " if it was even blown" ... okay whatever. I was told I would get a call that Thursday before I left work, never did, so I called in. They proceeded to tell me the speaker wasn't blown and they were sending it to Dodge to have it looked at ... in now in a rental for longer than I was told rather than the car that I purchased because they didn't want to do the work on it. Don't understand why send it to Dodge if you're so sure the speaker isn't blown ( although it definitely is ) ... the service center customer service was overall terrible. read more
