I love how there's no hassle salesman out there following you around. You walk-in and they ask if you want to look around and how you where to go and you're on your own to walk about the TONS of selection. We had a blast picking out a car. Once we found one we wanted to test drive we found someone, which wasn't hard because they are right inside and they helped us from test driving, making sure this was the perfect vehicle, to the financing! Purchase my Honda 2018 crv in February last year. Since I got it My vehicle has been shutting off randomly when driving longer then 45 minutes once the car shuts off all the lights starts too flicker on and off.. did a full Diagnostic on the vehicle and report says that the battery is not charging diagnostic done at advanced auto parts about 4 weeks ago. So today 1/5/22 I took my car to get a full diagnosed to figure out what's wrong. While waiting for my call back for the reports they stated nothing wrong with the car everything checks out good. But the only thing the diagnosis was the battery which they said it was weak but they didn't diagnosis the full car to see what causing the battery to continue to drain. When asking they said the can't do a full diagnosis because I have to pay for a full diagnosis. Which is crazy because I purchased 5 year warranty. read more

We took my girlfriends car here it's a little older but has low mileage on it they said they found leaks and it was literally the car AC dripping the Carmax certified appraiser Adam J. Wouldn't come out of his office to show me where the leaks are so the guy who gave us the quote came out and pointed directly to the pool of water from the AC condensation and said see look it's leaking it's not the AC. I had no idea what to expect. I scheduled an appraisal online as I needed to sell my suv. Within half and hour someone called me verifying the appointment. I was able to get in the next day. We showed up early and they got us in. We met with our assigned staff and he explained the process. Not knowing how bad we were going to get jammed (low balled) we walked the concourse looking at the cars for sale. They ended up offering us a mediocre + $. I guess what this means is it was a fair Amount given its age. It was in great shape too. We were out the door with a cashiers check in less than 30 more minutes. Entire process under an hour. All staff were very friendly and I couldn't really have asked for more. I love that they all dress business casual in khakis and a collared shirt. Well done carmax. We were skeptical but you are A ok in our book. read more

So, the check engine light came on and the Autozone Guy said "it's the gas cap." Called up CarMax Service and brought the car in on Friday, Dec. 30, 2016. In retrospect, not a good date for service. The Service Tech rightfully thought the gas cap was the problem, ordered a new one from the Subaru Dealer, but the dealer was closed until Tuesday. Then the dealer delivered the wrong part. Then, the part was out of stock. And so simple gas cap replacement turned into a week long ordeal. And as each day passed, Diana rang up $27.25 in gap insurance for the rental car. Diana's boyfriend was not happy and he let Dave Elder know all about it. Poor Dave had to deal with me and I can be a determined fellow - something about being old and cantankerous. Dave had all the additional rental car fees taken care of by Carmax. Dave waived the service contract deductible. Dave apologized for the Subaru Dealer and had one of his own employees drive to a dealer up north to get the correct part. Then CarMax fixed Diana's Subaru and everyone was happy. Then, on Monday, the light came back on. Dave again came through for us and gave us a loaner car while they checked out the issue. In the end, it turned out to have been a leaky gas line that had been chewed by some despicable rodents. We traced the rodent activity to two hamsters that had made a Shawshank Redemption-like escape from a cage in our home. One of the hamsters is still on the loose and we think this treacherous character may have chewed the gas line while making his escape to Madeira Beach stowed away in Diana's car. So Dave had his technician fix the Subaru, we paid the bill and everyone was happy once again. Thanks, Dave, for customer service above and beyond the call of duty. And remember, folks, never trust a hamster. They may look cute, but they're evil. read more

If you have made specific requests for your vehicle, or CarMax offers you something pertaining to that vehicle. BE SURE to get it in writing. They either forgot they told you something or they push it on the next person to work on your vehicle. That person will tell you they know nothing about it and quite frankly the service manager was a bit PO d that sales just pushed it off on them. Being honest and straight forward with your customers usually will bring them back. I will NEVER purchase another vehicle from this place or any other CARMAX on earth. They had my car for 9 days to do a water pump.....service guy keep combing up with excuses....then got my car back and windshield was not hooked back up....what a bunch of incompetent idiots!!!! Will never go there again....will pay extra to go to bmw dealer at least they know what they are doing... To the response of the carmax rep that commented.....so 9 days and she is blaming the holiday....and what she didn't say is the loaner car that they gave was a pos that smelled like a wet dog and shook bad well driving down the road......I will never go back to clearwater carmax nor would recommend it to my worst enemy!!!!! Ok so latest is that they diagnosed me with having the coolant problem so they replaced my water pump in a couple weeks later I was leaking coolant and they replaced a turbo hose now several months later that I don't deal with Carmax service I take my car to the BMW dealership and didn't mention a word about my coolant system and they said there was problems with it so now I'm back to square one these guys at Carmax do not know what they are doing...... When the salesman, Mike, found out we wanted to transfer the car to another state and then make the purchase, he released the hold and sold the car to someone else. He could have very easily held the car until we were able to process the request for transfer... less than 24 hours later. My mother (who was 90) at the time decided that she would help me buy a car in both of our names so I could use it to get her everywhere she needed to go. We found a Sonata that was about a year old at Carmax. When they asked my mother if she wanted a warranty, we decided against it since it was a relatively new car. However, when we went to Carmax in Clearwater to pick it up, they had all of the paperwork and financing done with the warranty added in. This was a basic warranty; it was not an additional warranty. The salesman assured my mother that the warranty would be good as long as we were paying for the car (7 years). This seemed like it might be a good idea. Approximately a year later, we received a recall notice on the car. I took it into the Hyundai dealership and they found a few other things that needed to be done to it. They informed us that the manufacturer automatically gave a 60,000 mile warranty that Carmax did not bother to tell us about when we bought the car. Over the next couple of years, we had various things fixed. After the warranty was expired, we needed a new engine at 80,000 miles and Hyundai, once again, bought the new engine since they had it on a warranty for 100,000 miles. After this time, the air conditioning started fluctuating on and off. Since it was getting cooler out, we decided to let it go. When the weather warmed up, I decided to use the warranty that we had originally paid for and never needed from Carmax. I was then told that the car had exceeded 100,000 miles (it was 103,000 at the time) and they would not honor the warranty although I was still paying on the car (since the salesman had led us to believe that it would be covered as long as we were still making payments). After many attempts with people from the home office and complaints about the fact that they sold us a bum warranty (no one told us we had one with a manufacturer warranty), they told me that it was too bad, they would not cover it. To compound problems, I tried to cancel the worthless warranty through the financier, but that it was not possible since the money is divided up over the life of the loan. I feel as though my mother was taken advantage of because of her age and that we were lied to intentionally. We bought many cars from Carmax but refuse to ever buy another one there. read more

Extremely disappointing. Earlier this year, they offered me US$12K for my 2013 Subaru Impreza WRX hatchback with approximately 55K miles. Similar vehicles on their national website were selling for US$10K more..... You read that right : similar vehicles in their inventory were priced at approximately US$22K. To make things even more painful, they kept me there for hours and no persons in management even took the time to acknowledge my presence. If there was a lower star than 1 I would have done so. This is the absolute worst carmax location there is. If you have not found your sign to to turn around and not waste your money here THIS IS IT. We went for an appraisal to this location. My boyfriend car was previously hit so we just wanted to see what we could get for it considering the cosmetic damages. they estimated him 8k which was surprising in a good way! Since THE ONLY damages were cosmetic. we ARRIVED with a shut, locked Hood to his car because there were no latch damages to his vehicle. The person who appraised his car did NO CLOSE his hood fully and sent us off without telling us resulting in the hood to FLY STRAIGHT BACK and shatter our windshield almost causing us to almost be in a fatal accident. Glass was in our eyes, our skin, everywhere. Now My boyfriend has no car and no one wants to take responsibly; However, we received a voicemail of someone from the office apologizing and admitting that the latch was not secured properly, yet there is nothing they can do. Adam Acosta was our sales consultant, and we watched him opened the hood perfectly fine, if he noticed any latch issues why did he not mention it to us? to inform us that it is "broken". I understand some people just not going to be happy with their outcome but for me they surpassed my expectations. I needed to sell my car fast. I knew the Kelly blue book value was between 600-1200. My car needed some extra love to say the least and I thought I get the bare minimum. I was surprised to find out they offered me a 1,000 for it which was almost spot on to the Kelley blue book. DO NOT PURCHASE A CAR FROM THIS BRANCH. The inspector from my insurance company discovered that CarMax Clearwater sold me a car with both a bent reinforcement bar and a damaged, rusted lock support. I called CarMax Clearwater, and Charlie Riley, a manager, was too busy coming up with an excuse (he told me that Carmax sells cars that have been in minor accidents) to offer to fix the car, to reimburse me for the pre-existing damage, or to exchange the car. I spoke with another manager, Billy Jacobsen, who told me that CarMax Clearwater guarantees only no "frame damage" and that they cannot guarantee that the car will not have any other damage (including damage to a reinforcement bar hidden underneath a bumper). read more

Stay far away! These guys have hustling down to a science. Went in to have my car appraised. They told me I first in line and that it would take 30 mins. I was thinking " To pull a CarFax/ Auto Check and test drive it? That's weird. " Ok whatever. Over an hour passes and they come back to me with an offer that was half the value of the car!!?? What was the reason? My vehicle had a clean Carfax, clean title, no accidents, tons of routine maintenance records, so how did they justify ripping me off? Apparently on this 2 owner car ( me and the original owner) the car had been reported stolen and was "found" less than 8 hours later. The insurance company had updated the fact that the vehicle was not a total loss with the DMV but had neglected to contact ISO to have the incorrect information removed since you obviously cannot have a car that is clean and clear title, no accidents and also has a total loss due to theft attached to it. I contacted this insurance company and they are sending me proof that this was done in error and in addition will be contacting AutoCheck and CarFax to have the info updated as well. Will I be selling them my car, no fricking way! If you have a car for sale, make sure you know all the details on it, if there is a hint of anything weird contact the parties involved before you put yourself at the mercy of these bottom feeders. Buying a car is never fun. You have to find the model, then you have to look at the car and well..There website is amazing. You can basically shop online narrow down what your looking for and then reserve to test drive the car. Pretty nifty. I think they underestimated my car but then every dealership does. It's the call of the business. However, let's think 5 day return of vehicle if your not happy, three days to find better financing you can't go wrong. I found my experience to be awesome. He let me search, go home think about what I wanted and then I came with list in hand and the first car I looked at was my number one vehicle and I fell in love.
