I like that it's not an all day event, mine has been a 2 hour event each time. There's no games, going to the manager and coming back with bs answers. I'm not saying they can help every one, but they try. I have seen friends go in there after being turned away from dealerships, and they walk out with a car. The workers I have worked with have been non-judgemental of the situation I have put my self in, in terms of credit. Along with not being able to put a lot of money down on a car. These are definitely UNTRUE statements. I found after they ran for my numbers. My car payment was going to be $400. What's even worse. The lender was not going to accept my trade. On top of CarMax asking me for another $7,000. Along with the $1,000 I only had. To put down on the car. CarMax was only give me $4,400 for my trade. That I couldn't even use. My question is??? Who has that kind of money to put down on a car??? When they happen to be on disability. I know people in my same situation. They gave me an on line offer of 10,400 but ended up only offering me 9,000. Because they said I had water spots and the panels needed to be painted. The spots were from a sprinkler well water and they could have been buffed out on s good detail job but even if it was true, $1400 to paint 3 panels! Also, I told them I just replaced the tires, battery, water pump and timing belt but they said it was just maintenance when Carvana snd Car Guru made the price go up. They had some really nice cars, but I opened one car and it smelled really weird so I lifted up the floor mats and noticed it had water at the bottom. They had a "flood car" out there to sell. Why 4 stars? Easy to schedule appointments online and the haggle-free offer experience. Took a second car into Carmax the other day and within 25-30 minutes I had an offer. Not too bad of an experience and I also had a week to think about it if I wanted to. I also did this way back when I moved to Florida as well and experience was the same. Ultimately I ended up selling the car to a friend of mine, but it was nice to know that I also had an offer from Carmax as well if that would have fell through. Scheduling was a breeze, reason for the price they offer was clear-cut and easy to understand, and the personnel working at the office were respectful, efficient and easy to work with. Only suggestion I would make is, bring back the coffee machines! :) It was nice to sit down and wait at a desk and get some work in, but would have been awesome to enjoy a quick cup of coffee while I waited for my appraisal. read more

After spending 29,000 buying a car from a national company that is supposed to be reputable it's a complete letdown to find out that they are just a bunch of scam artists looking to take advantage of people. The Carmax system has issues, I ordered and paid for a specific vehicle to be shipped to my location and it took my reservation off the vehicle and then gave it away to someone else when the app showed it was still shipped for me without even a phone call. Very disappointed and all they would do was refund my shipping fee. I did end up buying another vehicle that I am happy with but was still very disappointed that the original vehicle I wanted was taken away from me due to their system. read more

the worse customer service from CJ in the service center. Very rude and unprofessiona. I brought my car in before the warranty was dues to end because the car would go from drive to neutral while driving, I was told I could not do a walk in and would have to have an appointmen. I stressed this issues was not only unsafe but also time sensitive as my 90 day warranty was nearing to end. He gave me an appointment over a week out and reassured me my warranty would be honored as the issued arrived before the warranty was over. He sent me to BMW to get a software update saying that Carmax would pay it. Whem BMW did their inspection it's actually the fuel pump that's no good and is costing me $2000. I contacted CJ and he now has no recollection of what he reassured me. He has not only denied me the right to speak to a manager but he verbally abused me over the phone. Please what ever you do DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS PLACE! They will sell u a lemon and then refuse to uphold the warranty. read more

My wife and I went to CarMax in Clearwater FL to inquire about selling her 2015 Nissan Juke. Her car only had 46000 miles all local and was in good condition. The salesman said that he would have someone from the service department check it out and for us to have a seat, about 30mins later the salesman stated that there was something wrong with the engine and the transmission was slipping, he offered us $2500.00. I told him there was nothing wrong with our vehicle and we retrieved our keys and left. On the drive home the car was not performing right, it was slipping and I told my wife that we're going straight to the Nissan dealership. After a few hrs we were told that we needed to replace 2 coils and the spark plugs. There was nothing wrong with our vehicle when we drove to CarMax, I'm not sure what the mechanic did but my advice to you in a similar situation, stay with your vehicle. read more

Staff polite and professional in my experience until my third vehicle purchase haven't had my current vehicle 5 months yet an no an issue with a/c when I was in the 90 day window brought the issue to your attention and did nothing about it until now but only half fixing the issue, as Toyota dealership says evaporator coil is leaking and drier should be replaced too. I googled symptoms of failing drier n blowing warm air is a symptom of a failing drier! Your tech says reinstall it will be fine! If I'm back in the shop for a/c I promise you CarMax I won't be done with this issue! However, my truck did get fixed and CarMax knocked $50 off my deductible. I was more upset that the wrong refrigerant was in cooling system but it did get fixed and bottom line here CarMax and MaxCare took care of me. She blowing cold now! Thanks again! They are selling LEMONS!!!! I write this in hopes to help anyone thinking of purchasing from here!!! 0/10, if i could rate them negative I would. Not just the individual businesses, but as a whole all the way up to corporate. Where do I begin.... They couldn't even be bothered to clean out the inside of the vehicle, so it was a left over tampon, confetti, and used tissues behind the seats. Not even a wipe down nothing, But the car was "ready to drive off the lot". The vehicle needed repairs as soon as i drove it off the lot. They drug their feet with the first repair (took 3 weeks), leading me right into my second repair since it took so long. I literally had to argue for them to cover it after saying I was out of warranty (well time will go by when you take almost a month the resolve 1 repair???). They wanted me to pay my deductible after not even having the car for a week then again at month mark when the second repair occurred. Then after telling me I'd be able to get all my services needed done at their closest location to me, that turned out to be a lie, which caused me to have to drive 100+ miles there and back to their location each time i had an issue at the beginning. Keep in mind the milage being used. Every month something has had to be repaired on the vehicle.. including a battery, alternator, sunroof sensor, tire sensor, coolant hose and replacement, oil pan leak, coolant leak, and overheating multiple times with no found solution when taken to the shop, and my dashboard lights being on multiple times with no found solution. On the SIXTH repair going into the FOURTH month of having the vehicle I needed a new battery/alternator and when calling to complain, they went back on all the notes accumulated to that point, and offered me a free car wash . Then after that each time a new repair would arise they would offer solutions to old complaints, so your telling me this solution was absolutely off the table at the time.. but now that yet ANOTHER repair is needed all of a sudden your able to do this solution??? SHADY. I am at $1,300 paid in repairs so far, and still have a current repair needed which would put me at $2,000 in repairs entering my 8th month in the vehicle. This would be the 10th repair needed in that amount of time.. My complaints have been disregarded and swept under the rug month after month, and I've tried reaching out multiple chain of command people within the business, and they have yet to do the right thing. BE CAREFUL!!!!! They will put you in anything, they do not care if the car has issues, they will not disclose it and you will be in repairing it ASAP. read more

I have had the experience of buying and selling cars for quite some time. I do my homework prior to my visits, and I have been met with varied responses. Some places are happy to see me (with my research). Some are not so happy and border on being rude and condescending. Being a female should make absolutely no difference but unfortunately that is not reality. Sooooo....when I say that Clearwater CarMax will now be my go-to location for buying and selling any vehicle I have, I don't make that statement lightly. We took my mom and her car to this location and were greeted warmly. In fact, each person at CarMax seemed genuinely appreciative that we chose their location in which to see her car. Damian handled our request with professionalism and compassion. He informed us of what was going to happen and made sure we were comfortable during the wait. He checked back with us several times giving us the latest update. Brian handled our paperwork and presentation of the check. He was expedient and apologetic for our wait (which was not unreasonable at all). In a day and age where customer service sometimes is nonexistent, it was a true pleasure to have these two young men handle our mom's affairs. I would recommend them to anyone in our same position. Our experience was sooo very important to us since having a parent voluntarily give you their vehicle is a huge step. Our mom was treated with the respect she deserved from virtually total strangers. Overall extremely poor customer service from all areas in this dealership. Their 125 point inspection process isn't worth the paper it's printed on. I bought a vehicle with less than 4,000 miles on it and have had to come back to the dealership for several repairs. Scheduling a service appointment is always several weeks out. Today when I brought the truck in for a repair I told them about another issue. They said since I'm past their initial warranty (just had the truck over a month) that I'd have to use the extended warranty and pay for the deductibles for items that should have been caught during their "125 point" inspection. The truck still has less than 10k miles and should not be having mechanical issues. I highly recommend that you don't buy a vehicle from this dealership as all they sell are lemons. read more

In 2023, #CarMax sold me a lemon. It had "20,000" miles on it, but less than 6000 miles later, it already had to have more than $3,000 of work done under the hood, and is STILL being worked on 1 month later! Multiple parts had to be fixed already. Turns out that engine was only made for 2 years in row, and there were other problems that came with the car they sold me. I do hope CarMax makes this right by refunding me for the vehicle, but they would not even pay for the alternator, much less than the entire bill. So, it looks like I will have to take them to court, and in the mean time, I am just here to warn consumers to stay away from this company. They probably take any car, because they resell any car to the unsuspecting buyer, and it being a lemon, does not deter them from passing that junk off to the next sucker. read more

I am a returning client of CarMax Clearwater 5 times now. Josh Shapansky has been my salesperson for each transaction and has done an amazing job. This last car buying experience was less than stellar. I used the return policy (first time ever) because the car had several issues that I was not happy with. I spent $64,000 on the car. I made the return within the 30 day window. Upon signing all the paperwork I was told that the local dealership was unable to process a refund of this magnitude and that it would be mailed within 7 - 10 days. I returned the car on 31 July. Today is the 22nd of August and I have not received my refund. I called the business office twice and talked with 2 different people who reassured me that the 'check was cut' on the 10th. 12 days later I am still waiting. Today I called and left a message for Gary Catrine only to receive a call back from someone in the business office. Ever return an item for $64,000 and have to wait 23 days for a refund? I suggest if you are using the 30 day return policy you stand in line and wait for a return check or the chances are you will be like me waiting and waiting and waiting ...... This level of service lacks an extreme amount of professionalism. -Disappointed in Clearwater. read more

Cars were all over the place, a bit of a mess to be frank. It was a challenge to find a vehicle in their inventory even for the sales reps. I stopped in a couple times to test drive a couple cars and and check out their inventory, got good service from the front desk every time but it seemed like calling ahead was the better option, I hung around for about 15 without, sales reps were busy tending customers so I decided to try another day. Stopped in later that week, got to test drive a car, sales rep was helpful, even showed me comparable cars online to consider, I saw a car I wanted out in the Orlando location, put a request in to have it transferred, sales rep called me when it got in, I stopped in to check out the ride, he tells me to call to schedule an appt. next time, but at least he found another sales rep to show me the car. This rep wasn't the friendliest, offered very little help, seemed very disinterested (maybe had something to do with not getting a cut on the sale, who knows)... Anyway, long story short, I call my sales rep the next day, left a message on his cell, never heard back... got placed on a long hold twice when I tried the office line. I'm thinking maybe his busy. Go online a bit later to find the car I wanted had been sold. I didn't mind that as much as the fact that I wasted my time with Carmax, making numerous calls, expressing urgency to make a deal happen, and yet I didn't feel I got the service to match. Was blown away by the car salesman was very rude (his name was Vic).. he made us wait about 30 mins for a text drive and really took time, greeted me with not much respect and enthusiasm..
