Bought a car from them, it came with a misfiring coil, a catalyst converter problem, and 10000 miles overdue on the next oil change. 3 months later, car breaks down. Turns out when they put the new engine in, they put the wrong bolts into the crankshaft, which over time wore it down. Need to get a whole new engine, which costs more than the cars worth at its age and mileage. Now I'm stuck making payments on a car that's sitting in my front yard, undriveable. BUYER BEWARE!!! I bought my dream car from Florida Auto Exchange. I can't tell you how happy I was. I'm 75 years old and have always wanted a 2011 BMW Z4 convertible and there she was sitting at this dealership. I didn't care what it took I was going to get this car. I checked it out a couple of times. I had it checked out mechanically and the exterior was in pristine condition. I finally decided that this was going to be my car. The day I took the keys I was in heaven. Bucket list. Not quite 3 hours later that dream come true became a nightmare!!! It started to rain and my top would not go up. It wouldn't budge. NOT 3 HOURS LATER. I text my sales person immediately!!! Was told to take video of what it was doing. It wouldn't move!! JOSH would never return my calls again!! I talked to Kevin and he had me take it to their mechanic who found that the hydraulic s on both sides were shot. Florida Auto Exchange pretty much told me to bad too sad!!! Not once but five times Kevin said "it was working when you left". Yes it was and LESS THAN THREE HOURS AFTER I BOUGHT IT IT WAS NOT. The hydrolics were shot. Did I believe I would have some problems down the road yes. Did I have a 90 day warranty yes!! Did I know that the main function on the car was not covered NO!!!! 2011 dodge nitro.... buyer beware!! do not buy a vehicle from them no matter how desperate you are!! bought a vehicle 2 weeks ago, 2 days after i bought it i put gas in it and the smell of gas inside and outside the car is unreal!! notified dealer, had to take it to their repair shop for 3rd brake light out, vehicle came like that just like it came with the tank. they're replacing the 3rd brake light. 5 days after i had the vehicle the service engine light came on. vehicle feels like it has an air leak once in while when you press the fuel pedal while driving. the service manager did a smoke test on the gas tank and found that the tank has a leak somewhere!! upon telling his manager this he was told to not do another thing to vehicle, don't check what the check engine light is about!! service manager even agreed with me that the vehicle isn't safe to drive with tank like that and 2 dented rims. dealership manager and salesperson, paula, basically told me oh well buyer beware. was told by dealership manager when i mentioned the dents on 2 rims that he sold me a vehicle that will get me safely down the road!! a leaky gas tank that emits fumes into the vehicle cabin is not safe!!! so after many text back and forth, instead of doing the right thing and fixing it they wanted to give me my old vehicle back, which i can't drive for medical reasons and they know that, and rip up my contract!! guess they would try to sell the vehicle to someone else!! they have obviously taken advantage of someone with bad credit because they had 2 other vehicles for the same price but wouldn't even offer them to me, they kept pushing the 2011 dodge nitro like they knew it was messed up! so being in the position i'm in i took the vehicle and like it except for the tank issue which they won't fix!! they definitely take advantage of people with bad credit by selling you a vehicle that'll cost you in repairs which will be the reason you miss payments and they'll repo it after you paid to have it fixed!! i am filing reports with the epa, dep and bbb........ do not buy from here!!! bunch of shysters and people who don't back their vehicles or give 2 shits about you once you sign the papers and drive off their lot!!! read more

I bought a car with my fiancé on 01/18/2019 (Friday). A week before we had shopped on their lot and TWO cars did not start, we thought 'oh a fluke' and believed that their "maintenance person was on vacation" sure. Back to the day we bought the car, we expressed several times that we need a dependable vehicle, due to us being a single car household, and I am a social worker, often in the field with the homeless population of Pinellas County, and would find it be unsafe to be stranded in some of the places I have to travel to for work. They agreed, our salesman, Doug was so warm and kind and in fact showed interest in volunteering for my line of work, which is great! But what was off was the Sales Manager, Jeff. He was very dismissive and proved to only be interested in selling to my father and fiancé. I ignored it because as I am sure several men feel dismissive to women and cars. Fast forward, they show us a car that we fell in love with. We get back and they told us that car was not going to happen, so we see several cars later and finally get pressured into a car that got the job done but wasn't our favorite. We are signing papers, and Jeff makes a joke about me and my fiancé being twins, which is fine because we were born on the same day. However he then continues making jokes about incest and Alabama. You know initially I looked past all of that. But then Tuesday, 01/22/2019. The car we had bought had done my worst nightmare. Broke down while I was on the job. Infuriated, I call the dealership, who transfers me to the service center, where I have explain my situation again, the service station requests that I call the towing company myself. So okay, I do that. The towing company aren't the fastest, which is fine, it's not on my dime. However, the worst part is I show up to the dealership to discuss my concerns with the sales department and the first thing out of the sales manager's mouth is "it happens". Excuse me, but is it too much to ask for a car to work, idk say the FIRST WEEK we own it. Then as my very heated father tried to calm down after being somewhat validated by the sales manager, so he walks away. I discuss my concerns AGAIN with Jeff. He says "you're talking with your emotions". I did nothing but tell you your cars didn't start off the lot and my car broke down 5 days after purchase which is not emotion it's fact. Infuriated, we leave and the car goes to their repair shop. They say nothing is wrong. I call the owner, because I felt there was nothing left to do. The owner SCREAMS at me, I wish I was exaggerating, but he literally was making sure I felt intimidated by using such a demeaning tone. He invalidated every part of my complaints, and made no effort to smooth things over. Instead he decided to insult me, and assure that I felt like the scum of the earth based on how I felt of my experience. With that being said, I dropped off the rental car, picked up my "perfectly fine" vehicle and hoped they were right. Of course they were wrong. My car over heated 5 more times that week. I took it to our family mechanic and sure enough, not even an hour later he found the culprit, the water pump (WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE ENGINE) was rusted, broken down, and leaking. $300 to fix it, and let's talk about how now their expecting a payment on the vehicle. So in short, please do not come here if you are hoping to be respected, provided a trustworthy TEAM of people, and trustworthy car. I purchased a 2007 Chevy Tahoe (previously owned by the former mayor of Dunedin) in December of 2017 at Florida Auto Exchange. Despite the negative reviews online and feedback that I had received from others. The experience went well and I left happy with my truck. Fast forward 22 months. We recently revisited their showroom looking to trade in my Tahoe due to some mechanical issues that were arising. We spoke with Jason, the salesman that I dealt with in the past. We explained that the truck was having some issues and were very upfront on this fact. He stated that they we needed to have the truck diagnosed regardless in order to determine if it would be an easy fix or if we would be trading it in and what the value would be. He asked if we could bring it in to their service center for a diagnostic check. My wife immediately asked "How much is that going to cost?". Jason replied "we will take care of it". I set an appointment for 8:00 am the following morning. I brought my truck in and Chet, the service adviser, took it in to be diagnosed. About an hour and a half later Chet comes out to tell me that that their technician broke one of my starter wires during the diagnosis because it was "dry rotted" and it would need to be repaired before they could complete the diagnosis. I was upset but kept my cool and explained to Chet that I brought it in to be diagnosed in order to determine whether or not I would be trading it in and that Jason told me the diagnosis would be free. SUCH WAS NOT THE CASE. The service department decided that they needed to do a compression test and did so without consulting me prior to beginning further testing. Chet explained that Jason does not have the authority to make that type of promise and called his boss. Whoever he spoke to offered to take an hour of labor off of the bill! I was like "Take an hour of labor off of a bill that should have never been?". At this point I am fuming! I drove the truck in there and now I can't drive it out of there without the wiring intact. I was stuck having to pay $266, and 5 hours of my time, after being under the impression that I would walk out of there with a decision to make, either fixing it or trading it in, and no out of pocket expenses. The wires were replaced and I was informed that it was losing compression in the #3 cylinder. The loss of compression code that came up while hooking the truck to the diagnostic machine would have been enough for me to be able to make the determination. I then went over to the showroom VERY unhappy with the service bill in hand. We spoke with Jason again, who quickly tried to move away from our complaints about the service bill. He took full responsibility for promising a free diagnostic but tried to explain away why I had to pay for the wiring and labor that their service department broke. We then moved along to the possibility of trading it in. This is where Jason's shady behavior continued. We start talking about a ford expedition that they have on their lot for $7,999. Jason was told that we do not want to put any money down. After all I have made EVERY payment on the current truck since purchase and have an EXCELLENT payment history according to their reports to the credit bureau. Jason then proceeds to tell me that even with me trading in the Tahoe I would need "a couple thousand dollars down"! He did not run my credit nor did he look at my payment history. Without another word I walked out and let my wife handle it. She has been in the car business for 20 years. She walked out of there less than 5 minutes after I did! I then visited my mechanic the following day and found that the diagnosis that was given by their service department was not entirely accurate and that the truck had a long history of misfire codes. I then made the decision that I would not be making another payment on a vehicle that once it was all paid off would cost me $17,000 dollars. I drove the truck up to the showroom and returned the keys explaining that I would not be making another payment. At this point the owner "junior" came out of his office and an animated discussion ensued between the 2 of us in which he denied that "His guys broke my truck" when they in fact did and admitted it. I had the truck for only 22 months with only 25,000 miles being driven on it. The truck was maintained to the specifications and I still have the documentation. You would think that they would want to try to keep customers that actually pay their bills? It's unfortunate that they treat people this way. Companies like this that take advantage of hard-working people are the reason middle class America is disappearing rapidly. The moral of this story is.... If you are looking to buy a vehicle DON'T BUY HERE! They will leave you with a smile on your face believing that they are different from other shady used car dealerships, BUT it's the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig. If I could give Florida Auto Exchange 0 stars I would. When I was 18 I went to them to buy my own car, I trusted them to help me as a first time car buyer to guide me in the right direction. Instead what I got was a car that has given me nothing but problems, a $1,500 warranty I paid for but doesn't cover ANYTHING, oh and a 18.5% interest rate.... So thank you Florida Auto Exchange for screwing a young girl over just to get a little extra change in your own pockets. Since I did not go in to office with her to sign paperwork the salesman was ever so kind to sell her the crap warranty. I needed a tire on a Sunday only to find this warranty company is not open on Sundays. No problem I paid for the tire and am still waiting on my reimbursement 2 months later! Each time I call its one excuse after another. So I call dealer to cancel the warranty crap only to be told to call back Thursday. Today is Monday! When I tell you guys I'm beyond blessed to have found this dealership!!! IM SINGING TO THE HILLS. We all hear the stories about sketchy used dealerships but I'm so happy FAE was my final stop. I grew up here in Clearwater and just moved back from LA. I was having the worse time and went through at least 5 dealers before I came across to FAE. Paula helped me throughout the whole process beginning to end. She was extremely helpful and honest with me especially since I don't have any established credit. She was able to get me in a 2004 Ford Taurus with only 73k miles on it, low down payment and low monthly payments. The car is in PERFECT condition and practically looks brand new. I'm EXTREMELY happy I decided not to purchase a car here. The salespeople are beyond pushy, and the cars are not good quality. I test drove a car that was a little over my budget, but noticed quickly that it had a lot of issues. The dashboard was chipping off into pieces, the paint was scratched everywhere, the car was horribly misaligned, etc. I told the woman I was not interested in the car, but she pushed and pushed that it was the car for me and they'd fix all its problems. She even brought her manager over to tell me they'd fix everything wrong with it. Fresh paint! Fix the dash! Realign it! The car was over my budget to begin with, and I'd made it clear I was not interested. Here is a tip for you, FL auto exchange: maybe consider fixing your cars before you sell them for outrageous prices. This is such a huge red flag. A car's problems have to be pointed out to you before you are willing to fix them? Ridiculous. I ended up financing a brand new car from a very reputable car dealer. I didn't want to have to make payments on a car, but it's worth it if it means not being stuck with something broken and unreliable. The whole lot here is overpriced and outdated. Very good experience. Driven by for six years and never went in because of all the negative reviews. Then I really read the reviews and found most of them could not or would not take responsibility for bad judgment or purchase. I purchased a very nice Miata with low mileage and well maintained. I am very happy with the time that Jason spent with me even after regular hours. I paid cash which made the transaction shorter but I must say it was a pleasure compared to the hours I have spent in dealers in the past. I knew what I wanted and they provided. Used car dealers and insurance salesmen have been the brunt of nary remarks for generations but the do a vital service to a town and people. If you have an open mind and are willing to do research you and Florida auto exchange can both be satisfied that you got a vehicle that will serve your needs. I purchased a car from them in all honesty it was my fault that I did! I should have had it checked out by an independent mechanic before I signed the papers! MY FAULT! I was told by their mechanic that the noise I kept hearing wasn't there when he test drove it, then when I drove it with him, he tells me that the car is only making that noise because it's an older model! Come to find out, it's either the control arm or a bearing going bad. The price was outrageous for the car as well. Continued from other Review 9) On that call with my husband he stated that the vehicle was not the same, it was 2wd not 4wd...Not as nice not as clean...Now my husband and I have owned out right 14 jeeps over the last just about 14 years so we know jeeps...we have personally rebuilt 5 with me (my husband has done all 14, 5 of the 14 I helped with) so we can say we know Jeeps in and out so I know when my husband says no, it's gotta be no. In addition we are avid off roaders and a 2wd...really?! We wouldn't even make it out of the parking lot! In addition my husband said that it was also 3k more than the other Jeep- why the payment was so high- and both vehicles apprised on Edmonds and Kelly's Blue Book for significantly less then what they are selling these vehicles for (it shows what dealership price should be for year and mileage) Decision made! 10) I called my "Sales Associate" back and said you know I am really sorry that I wasted your time, but we are not interested in the other vehicle. You claimed that it was the "same vehicle newer year and fewer miles" and while part of that statement was true it is less miles it was not the same vehicle 2 years newer it's actually a 2wd and we want a 4wd. His response to that statement was, why this is Florida? I responded with I understand, but why are you asking me why? Isn't that a) the customer is always right and b) and if I want a certain vehicle, obviously I did my research and came to the table with significant knowledge about what vehicle I wanted...But it is the SAME vehicle he tells me, its FLORIDA he tells me...It has 30k less in mileage...It's NEWER...We CUT the price 3k for you! At this point I am thinking 'okay well it isn't 30k less in miles unless I don't know how to subtract 97 from 81...it is 2wd so no it is not the same vehicle...yes it maybe newer but it's not what I wanted...and no you didn't cut the price 3k you chose a vehicle 3k more than the one I wanted, thus increasing the loan 4k and the payment amount between 100 and 150 a month.' 11) I said no it is not the same vehicle and it is beyond what I want to spend a month (call me frugal...call me smart). All he heard was the price nothing else...I reiterated it is not the vehicle we wanted so it said but it is a Jeep! And I said yeah but not the same model. He then became agitated and said all sarcastic "well WHAT do you need a 4 wheel drive vehicle anyways?! This is FLORIDA..." My first thought to be completely honest was 'what the F**k is it any of his F**king business why I will only prefer a 4 wheel drive vehicle " So I said "listen this is the end of the discussion once I say what I have to say, and I thank you ahead of time for your time and effort but I will choose to go elsewhere: Not that it is any of your business why I want or prefer a 4wd vehicle but we are avid off road enthusiast and a 2 wheel drive wouldn't make it out of the parking lot!" So in closing, I wrote this very objectively without a lot emotion unless it what I was thinking or saying so that you can make your own informed decision. I will say that my mother in law always check on what people say about a company and/or products before she goes to a business or buys an item, half the time I thought it was ridiculous to do such extensive research on a company, (well other then checking the BBB) but had I done so I would have came across the staff written comment and the rest of the comments-all which were negative. If I could give this company 0 stars, I would. This has literally been the WORST experience EVER! My husband bought a truck from them and 3 days.... literally 3 days later the transmission wasn't working. We had a 3 month and 3,000 mile warranty regarding the engine and transmission. We brought it back MULTIPLE MULTIPLE times to get the issue fixed, they were not helpful. They had it for a week and said that the transmission guy said there wasn't anything wrong with it. Not even a MILE down the road and a "trans fault" code appeared on the dash. We took it back the next day and they cleared the code stating it was an "old code". So once again brought it back and they had it for yet ANOTHER WEEK. When we finally got it back we were told that they replaced the clutches and torque converter in "good faith". The truck kept slamming in gears so we took it to ford. The transmission guy at ford stated that they did not replace said parts. When we took the estimate and diagnosis from ford to FL Auto Exchange we were told that they were not going to let ford do it. At this point they wanted to flash the PCM which we were recommended by ford NOT TO DO but we went ahead anyways because FL Auto Exchange said that was the next step. WORST MISTAKE EVER. Not even 2 weeks pass by and the truck would not start. We had to get it towed to a shop and he diagnosed it as 1 of 2 things; neutral safety switch or transfer case... both which are apart of the transmission which was supposedly under warranty. They played around and pushed us outside the warranty. The sales manager Jeff stated that he could rewrite the warranty and put whatever mileage on the paperwork that he wanted. Obviously that's very shady but thats neither here nor there. Everytime my husband or I tried talking to them they either passed around the responsibility and had us talk to multiple people or hung up on us over the phone. Today we went there to ask for at least 1/2 the down payment back and we were nothing but belittled. My husband got extremely upset because Jenae or however you spell it pretty much told us to F off. As my husband was walking ahead she told me to "Put a leash on my husband" when I looked at her and said I dont have a leash on him she looked at me and said "That's fine but you need to control him". I'm sorry but I DO NOT control my husband nor have a "leash" on him. If you would have fixed the transmission the 1st time we brought it instead of playing games we wouldn't be in this predicament. This is the ABSOLUTE WORST car place that you could EVER purchase from. If you see a 2008 Black F150 on their lot DO NOT BUY IT!!! We were told by an employee, which I will not name names because that's not cool, that they use this specific vehicle as a flip truck. This isn't the first time this truck has been back for the SAME ISSUES prior to us purchasing it. If we would have known what we do now we would have taken our money elsewhere. This is the worst place ever!!! STAY AWAY!! They are crooks. The cars suck. I've had the worst luck with the car they sold me. And the salesman "Dean" told me and my fiancé that "he wasn't getting anything out of this deal, since he cut me such a great deal" so he asked for 100 dollars cash. We of course thought he was serious and felt bad so we gave him the cash. He pocketed it and said to keep it on the low. I should have known then that I was being screwed. AVOID THESE PEOPLE LIKE THE PLAGUE! It looks like I got completely screwed. I bought a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer that looked great, had low mileage, drove very nice and thought I was getting good vehicle. I could not have been more WRONG! I drove the vehicle for two weeks and the transmission began failing. It is now in the shop and looks like the transmission will either need to be replaced or completely rebuilt. On top of that, when I tried to use the warrantee that came with it, the warrantee company had no record of my vehicle. I had to do all the leg work to get the dealership to send the paperwork in so the shop could start looking at my vehicle. It has been in the shop for a week now and they are just now able to start repairs. The people that work at the dealership were very nice when they were taking my money (I made a large down payment), but when I told them what was wrong, they had no sympathy and seemed angry that I didn't take it to their service department. I will never let their service people touch my car. Additionally, there were new tires put on the vehicle and they clearly didn't balance the wheels afterwards. I had to get that done also. Had I not made a large down payment, I would have taken the vehicle back and parked it on their lot and told them to shove it. My wife has been dealing with cancer and we needed a second vehicle so she can get back and forth from her doctor appointments, but all we have now is a vehicle with a messed up transmission (which I truly believe they knew it before they sold the vehicle) that the repairs are going to cost more than the warrantee is going to pay. I purchased a 12 year old F150 from Florida Auto Exchange on December 10th. I had been looking for an older used pickup truck to pay cash for. I found my truck on Autotrader and it looked immaculate in the photos and led me to drive over an hour to this dealer. Upon arrival, the truck did appear to be in good condition and after a quick test drive, I chose to purchase it. The purchase price was not listed on line and when I called to inquire, was given a price over $2K over NADA value of the truck in excellent condition. The salesman, Jason, quickly came down to what Florida Auto Exchange felt was NADA. Once I decided to pursue the purchase further, the typical, old school car dealer tactics came out. "We can't sell it for that price." "We have to make some money." "Let me go talk to my guy." Then Jason disappeared and the sales manager, Dick came out who showed me a supposed invoice of what they paid for the truck at auction, which they agreed to sell me the truck for. I doubt this was what they actually paid. I was frustrated though that I still had to go into the office of the "finance manager" despite the fact I was paying cash. Her name is "Joy" and she is not one (exactly the opposite). She was borderline unfriendly during the actual sale transaction and straight up unfriendly on a follow up phone call I made regarding my registration being handled. All in all, the transaction was ok and typical of a traditional used car dealership (still waiting on my registration and the paper tag is up this week). After having the vehicle for 3 weeks, I would caution anyone considering purchasing a vehicle here to look it over VERY well and potentially have it checked out by an independent mechanic before purchasing. I understood going into this that I was purchasing a 12 year old vehicle, however in the time period I've had the vehicle, I've realized that it would probably be classified as "good" and not "excellent" as they presented it (their detailer is VERY good). I've had to do a $120+ mechanical repair in the 3 weeks that I've had it and the rear window leaks (upon closer inspection it can be seen that this leak has been band-aided previously) amongst other little issues. During the purchase, they made it very clear that there was no warranty and that everything was as-is. The attitude regarding this was "don't bother us when stuff starts breaking". These people are rude idiots! Some older lady started out to be nice until I gave her feedback of how expensive of a price was on one of there cars. She became obnoxious and nasty real quick. This was an '01 Cadillac SRS with 98k. I've researched this vehicle and reviewed tons of dealer ads and local by owners, seen many in person as I look for this particular vehicle and NEVER seen ONE listed over $4k and they were asking $6,200. When I mention that the KBB value for that vehicle was around $2500, this sales wench became irate and nasty. I had no problem paying a book value for a good car, so after she told me that KBB prices are BS, I asked for her to show me the NADA book value and then we can talk. She said that I wasn't going to buy the car anyway, refused to show me and walked off. This is the RUDEST dealer I have every dealt with. If you are an educated consumer, they are going to treat you like crap, if you are not, beware, they are going to rip you off. read more
