Carl's Jr. in Soledad is located very close to the exit from Highway 101. Thus, Carl's Jr. is very convenient for travelers needing coffee and a meal, including travelers with thoughts of Pinnacles National Park. As of this writing (April, 2016) there does not exist any road sign stating that you need to turn left (north) or right (south) on the main street in Soledad, if you need to get to Pinnacles. And so while ordering my usual Santa Fe Chicken sandwich with an extra roasted green chili, I asked the server which way to go. Without missing a heartbeat, she gave me the right directions. Also, after a very short wait, she handed me my Santa Fe Chicken (with the yummy extra roasted green chili) plus my change. I like the Santa Fe Chicken because of the uniquely attractive combination of the charcoal grilled chicken flavor, cheese-flavor from the cheese, roasted chili flavor (usually I request two extra chilis, giving three chilis in all), and crunchiness of the lettuce. A half hour later, I was the first hiker on the trail (Balconies Trail) with the Santa Fe Chicken sandwich tucked into a large pocket in my jacket. The view from the Balconies Trail is, as they say, "jaw dropping" because of the awesome cliffs that tower immediately to the south and to the north of the hiking trail. And so, I decided that as long as my jaw was busy with "jaw dropping" I decided to insert the yummy Carl's Jr. Santa Fe Chicken sandwich. And so that is exactly what I did. Yum-yummy!!!! As one can see from my reviews of Carl's Jr. in Baker, California and in Ridgecrest, California, it is the case that I also consider Carl's Jr. to be the destination-of-choice immediately prior to or after visiting Death Valley National Park. Death Valley is located near Baker and also Ridgecrest. By the way, if you are traveling south from San Jose and exit from Highway 101 and then stop at the stop sign, Carl's Jr. Is to your immediate right (to the south) while Pinnacles National Park requires a left turn (to the north). read more

Kevin and the rest of the staff here are wonderful! They're the best and only fast food establishment I will eat in Soledad. The other big fast food chains around Soledad serve stale tortillas. BK gets the order completely wrong and run out of items. They don't tell you they're out and charge you for them and fight you about substituting items. NEVER has this happened at Carls Jr. The restaurant is always clean and the staff are professional and inviting. I will continue to come here and only here! Location is the only thing this Carl's restaurant has going for it. Well, and maybe it being a fairly clean store, too. Everything else? Half the time, they get your order wrong. The people here are either in too much of a rush to get an order out - though that doesn't seem to be possible because it's never really all that busy (maybe that's why it's so clean, so few people to actually mess it up!) - or they simply don't care about what they're putting out. Burgers consistently come without things that we pay extra to be added to it. Just today, the burger I ordered with extra tomato (an extra charge) and extra pickle came with zero tomato and zero pickle. It was meat, cheese, sauce, and bread. That's it. Nothing else. I bumped up my rating to two stars just because it's pretty quick in and out of the drive-thru, and the store is clean, but it really deserves more like 1.5 stars. Every business can have a bad day. For that reason, and against better judgment, I decided to give this establishment another try. Even though the last several visits had royally sucked, my blood sugar was tanking today so I pulled into the drive-thru, hopeful that this place had finally come out of its tailspin. Boy, was I wrong. First impression was in the drive-thru when studying the current offerings on the menu board. The panel I was interested in had literally been hung so hastily that it was installed backwards. The photos, descriptions, pricing, calorie counts...all backwards. By this time, there were several cars behind me and I was trapped, so I decided to continue with the pain fest. The order-taker dude greeted me with a grunt and after I ordered my one item--how bad can they screw-up a simple Jalapeño Double Cheeseburger?--he barked, "Four-thirty-six." Mister Friendly...not as Carl Karcher would've done it. From that point I was only third in line to get to the window. It might as well have been a soup line because it took more than 20 minutes to reach the window! My blood sugar was wigging out and when I finally got to the window I handed them my exact change $4.36, only to have a tiny bag thrust my way by some Neanderthal who simply said, without a trace of true remorse, "sorry 'bout that," before slamming the window shut. No eye contact, no explanation, an undercooked apology, no receipt, a truly-substandard burger, and a free super-sized side of attitude. I know she can't change her appearance but her demeanor was horrible. The floors were sticky and dirty along with restrooms. The only star is for the fact that the guy at the counter was able to offer me a full refund on my way back through a couple of days later!! I pulled up to the drive-thru order window and ordered a "handbreaded chicken sandwich, plain with lettuce and mayo" meal with a large Coke. What I got was some weird chicken-like sandwich with bacon and white cheese, with some yucky sauce. They also gave me a cheeseburger with only lettuce and mayo. Stopped in on the way home and waited in line with no one servicing for about 4 minutes until someone came up to take our order, workers running around the counter but seemed so unorganized, the place was filthy and floors were wet with no one cleaning or mopping. I am sure it is spilled soda because the Liquid is slightly brown but with no one mopping I am sure the floor will be sticky from the sugar in the drink as it is allowed to dry without being mopped! Tables were dirty, napkin holders empty. Really what happened here? I love Carl's but if this is the way the front looks were customers eat what does the back look like were no customers sees? Do not eat here! I went in and was completely disrespected by the Manager Laura. I have worked at Carl's Jr before and when I walked into the door I wasn't greeted as a guest. Except I was given a cold shoulder and an​ 8-minute​e wait in an empty lobby. I had ordered a famous star with cheese and when I received​ it didn't have cheese. I asked the cashier if they could fix the mistake but they said they couldn't accommodate​ and I would have to order another burger. I tried to ask for a manager​ and Laura came. I'm really sad about this road trip: every place that I have used the restroom at smells like Coors Light and sausage; this Carl's Jr is not the exception, but rather, most likely, the root cause of highway restroom miasma. To compliment the pictures of biscuits on the menu, the décor is highly influenced by the early 1990's contemporary interior design; reminiscent of non-art deco while paying homage to both Motel 6 and Chuck E. Cheese Pizza, and are apparent in its motif. That is to say, for all this, I definitely wont eat here at Carl's Jr. Yet, the customer service is phenomenal. I asked for an unused Togo box, so they gave me one. So now, while parked on the roadside shoulder of the highway, I will cook my own food. Here is what I am having and how: First of all, I have a portable electric skillet in which olive oil will be heated over medium high heat before adding sausage meat, but any form of bite size protein will work. In this case, after crumbling the sausage meat as it browns, I add chopped garlic to the pan. When all of the crumbles have browned evenly, I think it is best to deglaze the pan using whiskey, wine, or chicken broth, but whatever else you may find at truckstops and gas stations will work, shifty whiskey for me. Then, this is when I like to stir in crushed-by-my-own-hand tomatoes and bring the sauce up to a bubble just before reducing the heat to a simmer. Insomuch, I look forward to stirring cream into the sauce, this will blush the color and cut the acidity of the tomatoes, half and half from any gas station on I-95 will do. Season with salt and pepper from Carl's Jr. Luckily, I have peas and basil to add into the sauce. Mmm mm, I'm loving it. All it needs then is to toss in some hot penne rigate in pan with the sauce which has been steeping in super hot water, or can be boiled first. Either way, use a Carl's Jr. togo box which is recyclable, clean, frugal and easily held while eating on the side of a highway; and, as the flavors begin to meld together in the Carl's Jr box creating an offal aroma, the hints of Coors Light and sausage are overwhelming. read more

If you have a job no matter what it is during Covid, take is seriously and do your best. I ordered a Super Star with Cheese meal with NO changes along with my boyfriend's meal. No one in the drive thru in front of me. I have to pull into the parking lot which requires me to pull out into traffic to get to it and wait for my food. After about 8 minutes the gal comes out and askes me if I ordered the Super Star and Double Western meals and I said yes and drove home. I discovered the fries were wrong on the way home... they gave crisscut fries instead of the fries that come with the meal I made no changes to. So, I get home and instead of a Super Star (double burger), I get a burger wrapped with stickers saying, "no onions" "bacon" "special" I unwrap to find a single patty with one sad tomato, limp lettuce and bacon... also about a quarter cup of sliced jalapenos dumped in the middle. WTF??? The most strangest thing about this was that at the drive thru window the gal asked me if I wanted salt and ketchup. I said yes. I received SIX containers of their bold bbq dipping sauce but, NO SALT OR KETCHUP!!! They did not put a receipt in the bag either, so I just decided to write this here instead of dealing with them. I normally stop by here when making a long commute to visit my girlfriend at University. Today I witnessed the manager having a very rude interaction with a new employee. I understand employees may mess up and need correction, but the unprofessionalism from the manager to the *I would assume based off the conversation* very new to the workforce employee was way too far. The manager spoke down on the employee and would not stop, the employee sounded defeated before half of the conversation was finished, and left soon after. Based off of being able to hear the entire conversation, their mistakes were minimal, but normal for someone new to working a job. This conversation could've been handled in a much more professional way, without letting the managers ego getting in the way of being a leader for their staff. I sincerely hope this is not how the manager handles all conflicts in this store, because the morale with the workers would be abysmal. This conversation should have been held during closing or in some sort of private area, so that the worker could still feel some dignity after this. I hope the worker finds another job and doesn't let this manager bring them down for much longer. read more
