I found it! The absolute worst Carl's Jr. in the entire chain! And who knew it would be in sleepy Carpinteria? Now I'm all in favor of hiring the handicapped, but this franchise owner should have kept to employees with physical handicaps. Abysmal doesn't even begin to describe the absolute lack of any semblance of customer service. You would think that with such an inconvenient location, when customers finally find and enter the "restaurant" (and I use the term restaurant very loosely), the staff might exercise at least the tiniest bit of customer service. Nope. They were downright rude and dismissive as if my presence was an inconvenience to them as opposed to the reason for their employment. On a day when there was literally only 1 other customer in the establishment (I'm guessing a typical lunch hour) the service was slow and the older woman behind the counter was more interested in chatting with her coworkers then handing me my hamburger which had been wrapped and was sitting for quite literally 5 minutes getting colder and soggier. I waited to see just how long she was going to ignore me and actually timed her on my Fitbit. At the 5 minute mark I asked her if I could have my burger. You would have thought I asked her if I could feel up her daughter. The level of indignation and nastiness was remarkable. And when I thanked her and told her to "have a wonderful day" (sarcastically, I admit), she told me, under her breath but clearly audible to "go fuck yourself". I never raised my voice or used any questionable or offensive language but I did suggest that, perhaps, she was ill-suited for employment in a service industry. This location should probably hire "mystery shoppers" as this can't have been an isolated incident. Without the hustle and bustle of a normal lunch crowd and without a drive-through window to contend with, exactly what are the 4 employees behind the counter charged with doing if not quickly preparing and delivering the food to customers with a friendly, accommodating attitude that indicates appreciation for the business? I am going to venture a guess that this is one of the lowest performing locations in the Carl's Jr. chain. The employees need to be properly trained and monitored. read more

Look, it's fast food. I don't like fast food. Was traveling home from Pismo Beach for a week and traffic ahead looked horrendous, kids were hungry and both like chicken stars so we stopped. I'll start with this. Weird location. Pretty convenient for highway access but I've never seen another restaurant literally on the o ramp. The driver way is on the on ramp back to Hwy 101. Very strange. Second, the food was fine. It was as expected and typical of any other Carl's Jr I've wasted money at. The problem I had with this place was the staff. They were so rude to all the customers. Sure, I get it. It's fast food, they're not dealing with the top clientele but my goodness, have a little pride in your job. I assume the person behind the counter was the manager since she was the only one not wearing a Carl's Jr shirt. She was just short and rude. I asked a question about the 2 for $5 deal because I didn't see any signage in the restaurant. Rather than simply confirming it was still going on, she rudely pointed to the sign on one of the side windows and said, "sign's right out front!" Ok, sorry I didn't walk around the building and read every sign you have stuck to a window! She seemed very agitated that there were people in the restaurant bothering her. First off, the manager took my order and during my order, answered a personal phone call while on speaker phone. Thought that was weird, but not enough to leave a bad review. Food was fine but very rude customer service. The worker named Denise initially she was very short when taking our order as if we were taking her time. When we got water from the water fountain in our water bottle she accused my husband of not paying for a drink and when we showed her it was water in OUR water bottle she rolled her eyes and was very rude saying "uhuh sure" in a doubting and accusing tone. I love Carl's Jr I eat it consistently In pure defense of the employees, this one star is solely for whatever upper management decided not to equip them with the tools they need. I used the app to place a curbside order pick up earlier today. After waiting in the parking lot for twenty minutes, I go inside to ask about my order. They informed me they don't have the technology inside to receive orders placed through the app. Why would the app offer it if the store is not equipped to receive them? I can't imagine I'm the only person this has happened to. And I can imagine people less inclined by reason probably take this out on the employees when it's not their fault in the least. Equip your team with what they need to succeed and avoid hassles with reasonably upset clientele while they're at work. Not fair. read more

We had to exit to this city cause traffic was so bad omw home from Solvang. People in Carpinteria are either super kind or they're flippant and don't like visitors in their town. Just got harassed by the elderly woman manager. She verbally harassed me and accused me of stealing soda. Then screamed at me that "It comes out of her paycheck" Which is obviously a blatant lie. I paid for my food and she refused to give me my food. And said she was going to call the COPS! This woman was off her meds and need to be fired immediately. We stopped here on our way home to OC from the Bay Area. I was hungry, but not feeling so great as my travelling companion weaved in and out down the twists and turns of the 101. We arrived and I had questions about one of the burgers. Nick was working the counter. He was incredibly helpful and unbelievably hospitable. Watching him it was apparent he was earnest in giving the best customer service to each person who walked in. Because we were there so late we watched as Nick prepared the dinning room to get mopped. He was thorough as he put the chairs up and swept the rest of the room without making a scene, allowing us to enjoy the rest of our dining experience peacefully. I hope the location management is aware of what a genuine Super Star Nick is for their location. I ordered the BFC with a Beyond Meat patty and my friend had the Famous Star with cheese. This location is so bizarre, they close the dinning room so no one sits there. It was 7 pm and they close at 10 pm. I understand if it was closer to the closing time. But 3 hours before they close, seems bizarre to me. Here's a pic with a time stamp, see below. There were customers eating outside in the parking lot eating off the hoods of their cars. We got off to enjoy a burger and sit down. This is very disappointing and it's not the first time either. I'm almost certain they do this regularly. This is one of the few places open past 7 pm in the area, please keep the dinning room open so we can sit down and enjoy a burger!! read more

I used to eat breakfast there almost every day but in the last 2 weeks that I ate there I got really sick twice!! I believe it was the sausage because it was like black and dried out! Sausage should be brown not black! So I stopped eating there. I'll get a burger from time to time but usually only with coupons. The workers are very friendly and helpful, it's just the food that lacks. It's pretty expensive for burgers but even when they give you specials by the time you buy the fries and the soda you end up spending even more than a combo. We donned our masks during this Covid-lock down to get two boxes of 5 chicken tenders each. Found out later that there was also a 12-pack that came with 2 fries for the same price, but no one told us. Got the $15 tenders home to find they were so dry and overdone that they were barely edible. What a waste of time and money. I'm seeing a lot of bad reviews here. This is my home town. I don't write many reviews on here, less so for a fast food restaurant but man oh man did this place impress me. Right when I walked in Ruben greeted me like we were old friends and was a beacon of service from the moment I stepped through the doors. I tried the hot honey chicken sandwich, it came out within 3 minutes and was delicious. Bacon was crispy, the chicken perfectly cooked, and the bun was not soggy at all. I had a great quick meal and was so impressed by Ruben that I had to come on here to give a review. Thank you so much for being so kind and helpful. Horrible service. This restaurant advertises that it closes at 9:00 PM, but it consistently closes at 8:45 PM or 8:50 PM. As a healthcare worker who often leaves work well after 8:00 PM, I have to rely on restaurants like Carl's Jr. for my only meal of the day. Considering that there are very few restaurant options in this community that are open after 8 PM, this makes it very difficult for members of the community when Carl's Jr. will not honor it's posted times. I have written the corporate office multiple letters, and no one from Carl's Jr. management has ever acknowledged this basic concern. Additionally, i have spoken to the manager, and it is very clear that Carl's Jr. does not care about customer service. According to the restaurant manager, the corporate office came out and said the official clock about 10 or 15 minutes ahead of the standard time. If Carl's Jr. wants to close at 8:30, they should post this as they're closing time. When customers show up at the restaurant before 9:00 PM, the staff ignores them. Carl's Jr. is losing business on a regular basis, particularly because of its lack of consideration for its customers. The Covid pandemic should not be used as an excuse or justification for poor business practices. read more

Everyone makes mistakes, however, when I brought it to their attention they gave me an attitude and argued with me. Lots of nasty looks. Never in my life have I ever been treated so badly at any restaurant or actually anywhere. There was a group of 8 of us that came in Friday 08/30/19 at 9:45pm. We waited at the line in front of the register to order, there was a couple in front of also Waiting. The man who was working there needs to be fired. While we were waiting there he never said we will be right with you nothing at all. He was dirty looking not wearing a Carl's Jr uniform. We were waiting 15 mins to come take our order. While waiting he was packing orders when he called out the numbers he yelled twice a number then he yelled out "what ever". The couple in front of us walked out he then walked to the front of the register looking at them astonished why they were walking out. I said to him they are leaving because they couldn't get waited on he said that's ok she didn't know how to speak and he couldn't understand her anyway. After waiting 15 mins to order finally we order and rung up he says here or to go I tell him for here he says well actually you are going to have to take it to go it's 10:00 I have been told by management that if you order at 10:00 it has to be to go. I was wondering why he made us stand there for 15 mins in the dining room all the seats were turned upside down on top of the tables getting ready for closing. This guy purposely made us wait so we couldn't have the opportunity to sit and eat inside. I told him what do you want us to do stand outside and eat our food in the parking lot? All of our party was saying really! We said forget it and left as we were leaving he was saying comments under his breath at us.
