I also tried the lug nuts (fried mushrooms) and fries. The lug nuts weren't my personal favorite, but the fries were solid. Food was good but buyer beware the ATM scam. We asked 3 times to pay for our sandwiches, when we ordered, while eating and again when we were done. 3 times we were told "no pay when you leave". On the way out we were told no credit cards you must use our ATM (which charges a fee) No where in the store and NOWHERE on the door is there a single sign that says cash only or no credit cards. They avoid disclosing it until you are completely done eating. The attitude kinda ruined our day. read more

I was in town for Steel City Comic Con. This place had good ratings both on Yelp and on Google. And I love a good Philly Cheesesteak, so I gave it a go. They have a pretty large menu of sandwiches and sides for being such a small place. I decided to go with the "Z-28" Cheesesteak (steak, grilled onion, garlic, white American), and added grilled mushrooms. It was delicious and buttery, and they did not skimp on the meat. It was so loaded that almost every time I bit into it, a bunch of steak fell off the roll into the basket (and some on my shirt). But that was like an extra treat I could eat with a fork. I also decided on the the steak and cheese fries. It was so good, and it was huge. It could have been a meal in itself. I also recommend trying their Turbo Sauce, which is their own house-made Buffalo sauce. I stopped here for lunch for the first time in over 10 years. I was pleasantly surprised to see that nothing has changed, including the superb quality of the sandwiches here. The same guy was working who I always remember, I think he is the owner. He is always polite, friendly, and accommodating of any special requests. I ordered the coupe deville, which is their lingo for a 12" cheesesteak. The size options are between 12" and 24" for the subs. The steak was moist and flavorful with nice melted cheese and perfectly grilled vegetables to top it Off. The restaurant is decorated with old license plates and various car themed memorabilia. Definitely an old-school vibe to the place, but in a good way. My fiancée and I came here after seeing the high ratings on Yelp. While I absolutely love sandwiches, she's generally not a fan, so I went in expecting a decent experience. The cashier/server was extremely friendly and the service was great. While the restaurant wasn't busy, she talked to regulars and checked in with us multiple times. We both ordered Primanti's style sandwiches, I got kielbasa and my fiancée got hot sausage. Both of them were fantastic, the bread was super fresh, the slaw was flavorful, the fries were crispy and made to order, and the meat in both sandwiches was excellent. The kielbasa had a snap that you usually don't get in cut sausages and the hot sausage was very well-seasoned. We also got cheese and bacon fries, which were exactly what I expected and perfect for a snack. Before we left, we talked to the cook, who said next time we had to try one of their subs, which they're known for. We certainly will and I'll likely update my review when we do so. The restaurant had a decidedly retro feel with all manner of car memorabilia on the walls, checkered tiles, and oldies playing on the radio in the background. Overall, super impressed and would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a good sandwich around Monroeville. Their prices were very reasonable, their food was superb, and the staff was very friendly. Not your every day sandwich shop! I showed up 39 minutes before closing time and the two fellows were super busy making tons of sandwiches apparent by the photos I posted. It's hard to choose, every special sub is appealing and worth a try. Don't be fooled by the baguette style roll. Eating a whole one will take an effort. That doesn't mean you should try. We visited Carhops while passing through town on the turnpike. We didn't know what to expect and we were delighted with our experience. I got a cold Italian hoagie and it was amazing. My husband got a cheesesteak (Z-28) and he said it was better than cheesesteaks he has had in Philly! My kids got chicken nuggets and fries which they devoured. We also had an order of Turbo Fries with cheese. It was fries with Buffalo sauce smother with cheese. It was awesome. The service was fantastic, they were very helpful with suggesting what to get and they also packed up our order beautifully. The ambiance is what made us really like the place. I've got to give this restaurant a five star rating. It's been in Monroeville for years but this was recommended by a friend so I went in for lunch today. We were immediately greeted by a woman full of happiness in her voice making you feel comfortable immediately upon your arrival. The walls were tastefully decorated with memorabilia from vehicle license plates to gas company signs to models of cars from the past. The music playing was nostalgic songs from yesteryear making the visit a very comfortable feeling. Small inside but there were approximately 8-10 tables but still room for the extensive take out crowd. Now for the best part, the food. The cheesesteak that I ordered was literally one of the best sandwiches I've ever gotten at any restaurant. My wife got a hamburger perfectly cooked and the fries were hot with a snappy crisp bite and everything was hot. This place is literally run by the owner and one employee however it doesn't take away from the fast professional service you'd expect to receive. Prices were what you'd expect for great food and they were not overpriced. Excellent balance of spices for the cheesesteak with the steak covering the entire roll not biting into only bread at the end of the sandwich. The hamburger was served on a sesame seed roll with the flavor you wouldn't find at a drive through. I've recommended to my friend to do a Tik Tok video as well. If you're looking for flavortown USA it's located in Monroeville Pennsylvania on business route 22 across from Denny's and a Wendy's. Great people, great food, don't let this place pass you buy. If I could give half stars I would give it 4.5 but it deserves the 5 stars. Only thing that wasn't great was the fries were frozen not fresh cut, not a big deal but that's the only issue I have. I ordered the "firebird cajun chicken" with regular fries and paid roughly $13. With that you get a foot long sub on fresh bread loaded with ingredients and a hefty bucket of fries, you get what you pay for. The sub was incredible, I'm not a big fan of places loading up on meat or any one single ingredient, this place has a perfect ratio of everything giving you a powerful flavor. Let's be honest, the quality of the corn beef makes a huge difference. Unlike majority of other places, they care about what they serve. At first their Reuben not on rye bread seemed wrong! Haven't had a carhops sub in many years. I use to go to the locations in Dormont and the Strip district. Back in my radio day's I would always give the Dormont location a plug talking about the house band (Souldout) that would play on the weekends and also the Monroeville shop for the people on the Eastern part of Pittsburgh. So I went there today 8/12 for a steak sub or the "Coupe Deville" foot long. Let me say they're very generous when it comes to the meet on a steak hogie they ain't Subway. The Slogan family has been in Monroeville for over 25 years, and if you want a great sub, I highly recommend Carhops! Starting with the customer service, it was terrible. The woman who served us was very cranky and short tempered with people who were trying this out for the first time. We all ordered different items to which we kind of enjoyed but ultimately it was not anything special. I ordered the deville and it was ok. If you are there make sure you order it with double meat so that your sandwich has a proportionate meat and bread ratio. I won't be back to this establishment because of the customer service as first impressions are lasting. As my friends were ordering their meal, the same lady mentioned above, told him as a question was being asked, "there's so many sandwiches here and I'm too busy for this". As if she didn't have any time for questions but she was the server taking our order. Hence, why I am not going back. The only thing that was charming was the decor.
