I found this place on Instagram and immediately added it to my must try list for Paris. I am so glad I did because I would HIGHLY recommend visiting Carette for hot chocolate. I specifically recommend visiting them in the late evening as a sweet treat after dinner especially since there is hardly any line then. Yes it's busy and you have to wait in line but it's worth the experience! I was here solo and had the hot chocolate with whipped cream inside. Fortunately there are also outlets incase you need to charge up which I actually desperately did that day. It was dark but not SUPER DARK that it NEEDED the cream and so it was a great drinking experience overall. The cream itself seemed unsweetened and had that lovely delicate milky/cream taste. It was all rather expensive though so it's not like you're saving any money on pastries or cakes while in Paris as you might think since you're getting the goods from the source. Always worth the hype. The hot chocolate has been earth shattering to me ever since 2022 when I first had it. It's the kind that makes you crave a European hot chocolate when you're at home. Macarons are also thumbs up! I think one time back during my first trip, they saw me carry a Laduree bag and looked at it in disgust and said "ours are better". Love love love this place Love it so much, I went twice in under a week. I was in the city for only 4 days and allocated two meals here. That's commitment. Stopped by here on the recommendation of a new friend in Paris. It was in a busy and mildly touristy area so we weren't expecting much. So let me tell you that the hot chocolate here will haunt me forever as one of the best things I have ever tasted in my life. Based on a recommendation from a friend (plus aided by various Instagram videos) I came to Carette to jumpstart my first day in Paris. I came early on a Saturday morning at about 8:30am. There was no line and I was seated right away. I ordered the Carette hot chocolate with the chantilly cream as well as a plain croissant. It came quite fast! Probably about 5 minutes after I ordered. The waiter poured the hot chocolate from the jug into my cup for me before setting it on the table. I immediately dug in! The hot chocolate was thick but not too thick, still very much drinkable. It was rich, sweet, and very delicious! The croissant was flaky and yummy! It wasn't necessarily the best croissant I've had but it was good. The inside of the restaurant was very nice and the staff was very kind. Overall, I had a really great experience! I first discovered Carette years ago from their very small Montmartre location and immediately fell in love. I feel like a girl never forgets her first gift of fresh macaroons flown straight in from France, mine were Ladurée - many many moons ago when Ladurée did not exists in the states. This past trip I decided I'd make it into a little hot chocolate tour as well, having hot cocoas from all of the places. I trained over early Monday morning after brekke to secure a box of macaroons to bring home to my sons girlfriend. I wanted her to have options :) and to be able to enjoy some of my favorites. I built her a box at the counter and then secured a table to enjoy a hot chocolate and a couple of macaroons there. My hot cocoa was great but I think my favorite remains the sit down option at Angelina if you don't mind waiting for a table, or even perhaps their takeaway option. Service was good and I'm not exactly sure what it is about their macaroons that make them consistently my favorite year in and year out but they simply are. When I arrived home, my sons gf and I enjoyed coffee and had a little taste test with the options I brought home and I still very much always vote for Carette, don't get me wrong I love all macaroons so don't pass up the other lovely places but I highly recommend these.
