I have been very pleased with this service station in the past, but their pricing has soared so high, I am not likely to use them any more. For my expensive repairs over the last two years, their estimates were always on the high end, so I have taken our cars elsewhere. I took this car in only because I had an emergency and no time to get multiple estimates. The latest repair had a labor charge of $900 and $1,000 for parts. The work took no more than four hours. That means these guys are charging at least $225 per hour for work. That is too high. I priced the parts and could have easily bought best-quality components for under $700. I worked on cars for years and know my way around a garage. I will still use this shop as a price check. In a number of visits to Cardinal Plaza Shell, I have only had two returns due to problems. But, better deals are out there. These folks have basically lost me as a regular customer. I will never understand shops that get popular and then raise prices, which eventually costs them long term customers. All this accomplishes is opening the door for other newer shops to poach business. read more

I was very disappointed to experience overt selling of unnecessary maintenance when bringing the car in for other maintenance. They have friendly enough staff and a nice white glove service including pickup and drop off. Not a bad place to get an inspection done. But be on the lookout for up-selling. read more

I was visiting my parents and my battery light came on in my 2007 Toyota Tundra. I had recently had the battery replaced so I knew it was most likely the alternator. I took it up to the Cardinal Plaza Shell and they hooked it up and checked it on the spot. Sure enough, it needed an alternator. I left them my truck, they replaced the alternator, and they even dealt with my extended warranty company and took care of everything. It took four days - but I dropped it off on a Friday morning and they were very busy. I would rather wait for a job to be done by people who know what they are doing then be helped immediately by someone who doesn't. In my experience, the busier the shop, the more they know what they are doing. Fast forward a month. My battery light came back on. I called them and they said bring it back, that should not happen, and we will take care of you. We had it towed to them from Maryland. The alternator was apparently faulty. They replaced everything - again. So far so good. I can't say enough about Cardinal Plaza Shell. They know what they are doing and they stand by their work. It is refreshing. read more

I keep trying this place but the total lack of communication is super frustrating. Their time estimates are horrible, this is the 3rd time I was given an estimate of when the repair would be done and it's always 3 hours later. I'm sitting home all day, waiting to get a call. If I didn't call them, I'm not sure anyone would bother letting me know when my car is done. "Oh yeah, it's ready and sitting here" - gee, thanks for not letting me know! :( I think I'll take my business elsewhere in the future. read more

The service department at Cardinal Shell is amazing. I had a flat tire and bc of a knee problem cannot change it myself. No problem! I called and Scott Brown (I think he's the owner, not sure) came over to my house with an air tank and filled my tire. Then he followed me as I drove to the station for the repair. It was great. All at no charge. It's a part of there "White Glove" service. Unbelievable service. They just made me a permanent customer. read more

The only place my mother and I take our vehicles to be serviced. The staff is friendly, funny and helpful. There have been a couple of times when I insisted something was majorly wrong with my car, but it turned out to be a small and inexpensive fix. I absolutely trust them with any vehicle that I use to drive my children around in. They will also pick you up and/or drop you off for FREE. Not to mention that this entire Shell has got to be the most festive business I have been to. read more

Do not take your car to Cardinal Plaza Shell for repairs. I made a big mistake taking car to the station when I should have taken it to dealer. They overcharged me big time. One of the employees gave me and my adult daughter totally incorrect information. I guess he thought two females were too dumb to know what makes a car run. They totally overlooked a radiator fan that did not work and bad rear brakes. Their 'diagnostic' tests are worthless. I paid for those fancy lights and decorations when they overcharged me. I will never buy gas at this station, have inspection done or have any repairs done at Cardinal Plaza Shell. Consumers Beware. read more

Excellent service!!! Let's start by saying we have a friend at the Mobile station across the street from the Shell, and I've had my car at the Mobile shop for new tires with great results. So when my husband's battery died at our son's preschool (which is just across the parking lot from the Mobile and Shell) he walked over to the Mobile station to get some help. My husband was told he'd have to have his car towed (you could see it if you squint from the station!), that no one was able to help him, despite our status as past customers and friendship with the manager there. As he walks back to his car, he passes by the Shell Station where he also asks for help. Guy there says sure! They walk over to his truck; the Shell mechanic looks at my husband's truck, and fixes the issue with the battery in less than a minute! They never charged (although my husband tipped him) and were exceptionally nice. Fast forward a few months, I have a power steering problem and a week later my husband has a clutch issue. I go to the Shell station (still grateful for the help they gave my husband) and was completely satisfied with their exceptional work and fairly priced service. My husband takes his car to the Mobile station, and after more than week with the work being outsourced (Shell would have done it at their station) he finely gets his car back. He paid way more than needed in my experience, it took longer than usual, and they weren't very amenable to my husband. From now on we are Cardinal Shell customers, they are excellent! read more

My Family always takes our cars here. It started with first it being close, and my father had taken his newer Toyota for "free" service at the dealership, and was told there was 1500 dollars worth of things wrong. He took a print out of the list to Shell and they laughed...they showed us that 5 of the 10 things don't exist on his model. They checked the rest, said, nothing is wrong, and said comeback if you need, no charge. This has happened many times with other issues, Toyota's, dodge, Subaru's, ford's and a Honda. Each time a dealership would say that something is required, or that your warranty will be void if you don't let us fix this expensive thing. Each time shell would look at it, contact the manufacture, prove the dealership wrong. 20 years later we have moved, and still return to Cardinal Plaza Shell. Sorry to write this review. We'd been customers for years; not a bargain, but service was competent and courteous. Wife got a flat on 8/24/17 and had our minivan towed there. Dan at the desk was rude & dismissive & told her he'd get to it when he got to it. I got the same treatment on the phone later. When I asked about tire options he told me they wouldn't be having a sale until November. It was like pulling teeth. Over 24 hours to put 2 tires on a Dodge minivan. Discussed the matter with the manager (Cameron) the next day. He said he was sorry; told my wife that this is not how they do business -- wish he was right -- he used to be. It is a busy station; they probably don't need my business anymore; probably don't need yours either. read more

We have been taking our cars here for years. The staff is always pleasant, polite and helpful. We never take our cars anywhere else. They take a quick look if you have a minor problem, and sometimes can do a little magic to fix the issue. They make me feel like I have a relative in the shop. I have heard that their prices may be a little on the high side. That may be true, I don't shop around because they treat me so well. The extra money is worth the service!!!! Also I get coupons for repeat service, which usually adds up to at least 10% discount. I had so many coupons that my last oil change & inspection cost me less than $5. read more

Back when the Father ran the place it was a way more honest, caring shop. Now with the Son running it he definitely has the must make obscene profit mindset. Parts are way overpriced. Easily a 300% markup. Front desk clerks are definitely on commission so expect to pay at least $200 over what you should. Everyone buys into "It looks so nice and festive all year long." And I will be honest it is a nice looking business, but I don't fall for the bells and whistles. I would rather have a cheaper repair rate than and inflatable Santa on the roof. On the positive they do good work, but 100's of shops in the area do as well at way more reasonable rates. Shop around. read more

I've been taking my cars there for years. I have always been pleased with the professionalism, honesty and speed at which they operate. They are always ready to give e a ride to work, which is an awesome service. The decorations throughout the year are a very nice touch and this station has been a family owned place for years and it shows. The same guys are there year after year so that certainly says something for them as an employer. My only "complaint" and I don't think it's really a complaint but more a concern. The last time i took my car in for an issue with the window washer fluid not squirting (had been very cold but a garaged car), they told me there was a frozen section in the line and they would get it out and refill for NC. However, on their "courtesy" inspection they found that my transmission fluid was "almost black" and should be flushed. The car is a 2012 and only has 26,000 miles on it but I let them do it. After talking to my husband it turns out that it probably was just fine for the number of miles on my car but it had already been done. The other thing they like to push is the nitrogen instead of air for your tires. While it is only $20, I feel it is unnecessary and see no advantage. Overall, good place to take your car and I would recommend them. read more

Since I have a 2001 Odyssey, I count on their team to give me great advice and great service. My recent visit we discovered several really serious issues, but they took care of them and got me back on the road quickly. Terrible customer service. They charged me for service that was not performed on my car. And without a single appology (except for a generic e mail sent afterwords) they told me that they can refund the charge, as if they do me a favor. Business owner was so busy putting christmas lights to festive up the place to bring business, he simply walk away while i was still explaining my situation. I have been using Cardinal Plaza Shell for over 10 years to service my vehicles. I have used them from simple oil change and plugging tire leak to a more complicated AC compressor replacement. What I like is the honest opinion I receive coupled with the convenience of a local provider. Have I used other places for service? Yes, but honestly I questioned it later when problems arose with the other service. I've never had second thoughts with Cardinal Plaza Shell. read more

I have been going to these guys for awhile without problems. Except the last two times that I took my car there. I went without an appointment to get my oil changed. They said "no problem, probably 45 min-1 hr, we'll call you when it's done". So I went to Panera for 1-1/2 hours, thinking that was enough time. Came back, car was done, but no phone call. No big deal, right? So the next time I make an appointment and arrive on time to get my oil changed. Go to Panera for another 1-1/2 hours thinking that should be enough time. Car was not even moved. I told srvice guy I couldn't wait any longer. Service writer gave some lamo excuse and didn't even offer an apology. The management need to stop worrying about all the fancy decorations and concentrate more on service. My business and all my neighbors business is going elsewhere. read more

So far so good! They are usually quite corteous and reasonable for the basic maintenance I've asked them to do.

We have been bringing our 4 cars here for about 2 years. Tired of being ripped off from the Dealers and Merchants. Always professional and ready to help. Even when we have a headlight out...we would drive up and one of the 'new guys' would be told to take a look. He would take the burnt one out and put the new one in on the spot. With no labor charge. Really like the Rewards program but wished the coupons did not have an expiration date. Since you get rewards for services spent $$$$, the idea is to NOT come back too soon for service. The pick up or drop off is a plus in a pinch...used that service once. Have not tried the free loner car option. All and all...best service in the area...just a little pricey but as they say...you get what you pay for. Finally, really like the web site...just hope it does not up the cost of the auto services. I've been taking two cars here for about three years, I've had all my safety inspections and oil changes done here and two moderately significant repairs. Their prices are fair, considering how expensive car repairs have gotten. I really felt my age upon paying $500 to replace a bad oxygen sensor; the car I learned to drive on didn't even have an oxygen sensor, or any electronics for that matter. Nevertheless, they are always friendly and professional; and like many others that live near by I appreciate their holiday and community spirit. Been going here for many years and generally happy. They are fast and never had to go back for follow up. I would recommend getting estimates from other shops on big jobs as I found them to be on the high end of cost. Midas Springfield is also a good shop and will do brakes and muffler repair much cheaper. Always good to ask questions and see the old parts. I asked for the loyal customer discount on an $800 shock and tie rod job and got $5 dollars off. Very impressive! Didn't cement my loyalty too well! read more

I have been a customer of the cardinal forest shell for 40 years and today was my last visit. I had a gas discount through Giant Foods and I wanted to fill my tank with that discount. I had a 10 gift card from shell that I wanted to use towards this purchase. I went inside to explain that I wanted to use the gift card and then pay for the rest with my debit card. The flippant employee told me that I could not do two transactions. I explained that that did not seem fair and who would I complain to Shell or Giant? He said Shell but that my complaint wouldn't fly. I then went inside the service center and passed on my concern. A young female handed me an application to save 2cents per gallon. Clearly neither of these employees cared or checked with someone higher up to see if my complaint had validity. I won't be buying gas or using the repair shop again. I received the message loud and clear that I am not worth their time. read more

I know absolutely nothing about cars, so when paying to have my car serviced I always have that nagging question in the back of my head, "how do I know if I'm not being ripped off?" I will never question Cardinal Plaza Shell ever again! About a month ago, Cardinal Plaza Shell changed the oil in my Honda Civic. Last week, my Civic was towed back to them because the engine was making a horrible sound. To my astonishment, Cameron called me and told me they had installed an oil filter that was defective. My car needed a completely new engine which they would purchase and install at no cost to me! I realize how easy it would have been to blame the engine malfunction on something I did to the car, but they didn't. What is even better, they purchased an engine with only 8K miles of use, but Cameron didn't like how it sounded when it was completely installed. Now they are purchasing another low mileage engine to re-install! These gentlemen have integrity to spare.
