This place is so good and lives up to the hype!! The ambiance is nice and the service is good. It is a bit loud in there so keep that in mind. The food is absolutely amazing. We had the chicken Parmesan gnocchi, spicy rigatoni, and lava cake. It's all so good and feels so rich and tasty but also flavored so well. Can't wait to go back! read more

Absolutely phenomenal dining experience! Welcoming staff, great ambiance, and outstanding service/management. Everything from our meal was fresh and delicious. Our favorites were the chicken parmigiana and tuna tartare. Wonderful live music on weekends, but you will need a reservation, possibly weeks in advance depending on when you're trying to go. We went for our anniversary, and staff brought us a thoughtful card and amazing complimentary lava cake with ice cream. We will be going back! read more

In a scene from the Godfather, Virgil Sollazzo recommends the veal to Police Captain McCluskey while dining at Louis' restaurant in the Bronx, saying it's the best in the city. Well guess what? Enter Carbonara and their veal offerings. From their parmigiana and saltimbocca, to their fork tender scallopini, all served with a side of spaghetti. Then there's their table side prepared Carbonara which is a show and a meal. Their desert offerings and award wining chicken parmigiana round out just some of their menu items. Reservations are suggested for larger parties. read more

It was honestly just okay. I don't eat meat, and the limited options available were really mediocre. I had the spaghetti with Sunday sauce and it was really just okay. The best part of the meal was the italicus spritz, it was delicious. I would probably not return as a vegetarian. With that said, the service was great despite being short staffed (which was acknowledged after we were seated). Our server was efficient and provided great service. In fact, the whole restaurant team worked very well together. We were seated by the kitchen and it was very stuffy and uncomfortably hot. I would advise to avoid this spot. read more

The food here was pretty good! Definitely no complaints. They had complimentary prochutto which was a nice snack. The meatball eggroll appetizer was my favorite, very crunch and flavorful. The shrimp and lobster pasta was also very good, definitely could have used more sauce but overall very good meal. read more

We went on a wednesday night, and it was packed!! Thankfully, we had a reservation as were a group of 9 - but the table was really tight. It seemed like they wanted to squeeze us in a table that normally fits 8. The food itself was pretty good! The texture of the pasta was chewy with a nice bounce. The bread was fresh. Both the bread and pasta were a little bit on the blander side, however. And my favorite was the arancini! It was perfectly seasoned and nicely crispy! The service was quick and friendly! read more

After waiting quite a while for a reservation, perhaps our expectations were too high. While I see many posts praising the food and service, a few "foodies" say the place was "underwhelming." I'm a foodie. Listen to the foodies. First, the ambiance of the place feels a bit off. A bit, dare I say, morbid. Very few smiles and laughter from staff and guests. The waiter and food runners barely engaged. The floor plan with its myriad of dividers and walls and tiny coffee-shop two tops makes it feel very cramped. I felt uncomfortable for others. As far as the food. Presentation was nice, but superficial. Their "table-side prepared" Bucatini Carbonara is brought to you on a utility cart. They pour some alcohol into the cheese wheel and light it! Wow. It's almost like a fresh Cacio e Pepe and looks like they are cooking something. But look under the cart, and you'll see the pre-prepared pasta. The Buratta al la Caprese is pretty, but served with no hot bread. While the Orrechiette was largely flavorless, the Rigatoni Allá Vodka was better as was the Pollo Picatta. As far as the service. As I mentioned, it was uninspiring. Great service can make the food taste better and lead to repeat customers. Carbonara certainly wants to put on an air of sophistication. But it misses here too, as service was underwhelming. When food comes to the table, the food runner is lost and asking which guest had what dish. Ladies first? Nope. This points to management's lack of training and focus on the little things. For the price, expect better. Foodies think these little things are big things. Listen to the foodies. read more

Decided to try out this place because their chicken parm was all the rage. The chicken itself was absolutely delicious. Presentation could have been better as the server had a hard time getting the vodka sauce and cheese to slide off the skillet and onto my plate. We also tried their shrimp scampi. I could tell they make their pasta in-house. The pasta was perfectly cooked with a slight chew to it. Everything was great! It was just a slight salty but would definitely try again! read more

Carbonara - CHICKEN PARMIGIANA ALLA VODKA - Italian Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

This is the best Italian I've ever had. Hands down the only place you should go for great food. I've been here twice and both times it was phenomenal. Last night I had the chicken parm with vodka pasta sauce. The sauce and cheese come separately on a hot plate and served over the chicken and pasta. Amazing! Wine selection is decent, a little pricey. The only drawback in the noise. It is a very loud restaurant. At 6:30pm we noticed they turned the music even louder. We really couldn't talk to eachother much because of the noise. Next time, I'll get a table outside and have another fabulous meal! read more

The location is slightly off from the busy main area, so it was easier to find a metered street parking! Their signiture dish Carbonara was just okay in my opinion. I did feel that the sauce was overcooked as the egg was clumpy. But also it sat too long to be served, as the chef took a real long time to marinate the pasta in the wheel of cheese. Honestly he did not look like he knew what he was doing, and he was clutzy. He also tried to use a tong that he dropped on the floor, by wiping it with his apron. Thankfully my husband was watching and asked not to use the same tong. But when he did, the chef murmured something under his breath as well. My husband's flatbread was nicely done, and my 4 year old daughter loved her pesto pasta. They actually did not have a plain pesto item on their menu, but they made it for her, so that was nice. Everyone else besides the man who made a very awkward performance of making Carbonara in front of us, was very nice, attentive and professional. Overall it was a positive experience. Perhaps I was expecting higher from the Carbonara dish, as the restaurant is named after that. read more

I am not a pasta person by any means, but Carbonara does it well. I enjoyed. Food: We tried so many dishes - Bacon Wrapped Shrimp, Mozzarella Sticks (Triangles...they were triangular-shaped), Meatballs, Chicken Parmesan, and Squid Ink Pasta. Everything was good and piping hot! You literally had to wait or blow on your food in an attempt to cool it lol. My least favorite was the Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp. I've never been a fan of bacon on shrimp...give them to me separately please. The Mozzarella Sticks were excellent. The crust was crisp, with a gooey-cheese pull center. The Chicken Parmesan was the star. First, the portion size is huge. I think one could share it. When you're served, the chicken is waiting for the melted cheese and the alla vodka sauce to be poured over it. This is all done table-side...mouthwatering! The chicken was so tender and the pasta was perfectly cooked--al dente! On to the Squid Ink Pasta...while I liked it, it wasn't my favorite. I've had Squid Ink Pasta from other establishments, and if I see it on a menu, I will always get it. Carbonara's rendition lacked seasoning. A little pepper could have gone a long way for me. Service: No complaints on this front. Our waiter came by frequently, but gave us the space and time needed to talk and enjoy the food. Again, I am not a pasta-lover, but I enjoyed the experience here. Try it for yourself. Cheers! read more

To be very honest I will only give this place 4 stars because Taha was trying his best to make things go right for my sister's birthday. Our reservation was for 1:45pm yesterday afternoon. This place was highly recommended to me to try as a Yelper and I have been meaning to try it. I am glad my sister chose it to come because I am truly not an Italian foodie person. Pastas are have a special place in my heart cause I cook pretty mean pasta dishes. Anywho they should have more options for non alcoholic drinkers like myself, a lot of their drinks look amazing, but they cater only to alcohol drinkers. Food menu is pretty extensive, however all their entrees are pastas.. I get it it's in the name, but how about if people came as a group and only joined because it was a birthday celebration and did not want pasta? I didn't, but since that was literally the only thing I ended up getting pasta. Since there was no real mocktail or anything I just got a cappuccino...no syrups or milk alternatives, but I just took it as is. Appetizers? Bacon wrapped shrimp 10/10 and baked stuffed claws, 8/10. The sauces that came on them were very complimentary that it enhanced all the crunch on them. Bread? Cold and hard as bricks...the olives and tomato sauce was a good addition though, but I am 100% it would have been 10/10 if they found a way to keep the break warm... got meatballs for my niece and daughter to share. They enjoyed that very much. much. For entrees, my cousin and partner got carbonara that was tossed on a cool cheese wheel...it was absolutely cold when they were actually served... carbonara? 7/10 I have had better at other Italian spots. Taha fixed the issue, however it took another 20 minutes and by the time my cousin and partner weren't even hungry anymore...I got the spinach angolotti 6/10 with breaded chicken the chicken cutlet was hard, cold, and bland. The angolotti? So creamy and tasty looking, but it lacked seasoning, needed lots of pepper and more added cheese. My mom got the scampi 7/10. It was a great size portion, but I have had better. Sister got the chicken parm. She said it was an 8/10. The food was pricey and not a lot of flavorful to make up for it. Everyone loved their alcoholic beverages so that was a plus...the general manager Chris stopped by, but just came to apologize. He didn't really do much nor was he very friendly... not even a smile when we came in or throughout our dining experience. We were absolutely grateful for the desserts that were given. Cheesecake was 9/10. Molten chocolate cake 10/10. I wanted to try the tiramisu, but I was so stuffed i couldnt even eat more than one bite each. I know the food wasn't Taha's fault, but he tried to make everything perfect still! Even brought us a strawberry expresso martini on the house. read more

First time at Carbonara and can't wait to go back already! The ambiance of the restaurant was delightful. From the moment we walked in the doors the host/hostesses welcomed us with friendly faces and sat us promptly. Our server (I forget his name unfortunately) was very attentive and had great recommendations for us. The manager was also very present and checked on us multiple times throughout our meal. My boyfriend and I started with the Espresso Martini Flight and Arancini as appetizer. For our entrees he had the Tableside Flambé NY Prime Bone-In Steak Fiorentina paired with a Pinot Noir and I had the Chicken Parmigiana. Both were phenomenal. To end an already amazing dinner they even surprised us with a happy birthday dessert! 10/10 experience. read more

Firstly, I'd like to express my congratulations to Carbonara for being selected on Yelp's list of Top 25 Best New Restaurants in the USA! Though what initially drew me to this restaurant was the fact that they offer a pistachio epresso martini from their cocktail flights. The second that I found out that they have this drink available, I knew I had to snag a reservation. I'm obsessed with pistachio everything and have never had a pistachio espresso martini before. I had been searching everywhere for pistachio espresso martinis in the Northern VA area and the options seem scarce. I initially asked if I could order a regular sized pistachio espresso martini instead of their $45 espresso martini flight though ended up opting for the flight so I could share with my friend, whom is a coffee lover. The additional flavors that we chose for the flight were s'mores and tiramisu. I felt like our dining experience was a show from start to finish. The start of our show was when our server toasted the marshmallows for the s'mores martini and the cheese foam for the tiramisu. Very glad that we tried the flight because I ended up really enjoying the tiramisu although my friend though it was on the sweeter side. I loved my pistachio espresso martini and thought the handpainted pistachio liqueur on the side of the glass was a nice touch. I didn't know what to expect though am so happy I got to try my first pistachio martini at Carbonara! Next time I want to try the ferrero rocher flavor since that is my favorite chocolate. Now, if this review wasn't long enough; it would be remise to not mention the food as it was equally a star compared to the drinks. We were given a complimentary bread basket that came with a sauce container containing tapenade and marinara sauce. We shared an appetizer ("Seared Octopus") and two entrees ("Bucatini Carbonara Table Side" and "Spicy Rigatoni All Vodka". The Seared Octopus came with cannellini beans in Italian vinaigrette, crispy potatoes, and roasted pepper sauce. It was a wonderful first appetizer and octopus was succulent. The staff timed the next course after we finished our appetizer which was nice so that we could take our time to savor every bite. The Spicy Rigatoni Alla Vodka came with roasted chicken and shaved pecorino. My friend requested that her dish's spice level is bought down one level since her tolerance to spice isn't so high. When I tried her dish, it was a satisfying level of spice though; good thing she asked to bring the spice level it down a notch as perhaps it would have been too spicy for her. Next thing I know, another staff member is pushing a whole wheel of parmigiana reggiano to our table! It was very entertaining to watch him set the cheese wheel on fire and add in the pan of homemade bucatini sautéed with guanciale (cured pork's jowl) & egg yolk. The bucatini was coated with the melted cheese and elegantly placed on a plate in front of me. Eating homemade pasta was delightful and a nice change from the boxed pasta that I usually make at home. Our server had asked me if I wanted a little bit of grated parmesan on my pasta in which I replied, "just a little bit". He took that as an opportunity to humor me and only grated what his version was "a little bit"! Okay, maybe I wanted a healthy amount of parmesan hehe . . . :) Our server's humorous yet professional demeanor only elevated our experience throughout our meal. We had a joyful experience documenting our time at Carbonara; the natural lighting along with the elegant interior allowed us to capture a handful of very lovely photos. We were so full that we didn't have room for dessert though the next time that I come, I'm definitely eyeing the pistachio ricotta dusted cake and/or pistachio affogato. I can see why now Carbonara is so deserving to have made it on Yelp's Top 25 Best Restaurants List. Congratulations again! read more

We came in for lunch on a weekday and the place was PACKED! Good thing we made reservations!! Service was incredibly friendly and helpful, our server (I think his name was "Taiha") was so attentive and very helpful! He made plenty of great recommendations and we pretty much tried everything he mentioned. We love Italian and really enjoy meatballs and arancini, so we decided to start with both! I've spent lots of time in Pittsburgh and am very familiar with sausage stuffed long peppers, so I definitely had to try that too! Starting with three appetizers was a lot, but it was so worth it, as they were all outstanding! The arancini was perfectly made, inside and out. Packed with peas and lots of great flavor and the sauce was so good on it. The long peppers were so very spicy, but so very tasty, especially with that amazing sausage inside and that great cheese on top! Highly recommend this one! I've not seen another DMV Italian joint with this particular appetizer. The meatballs were really good too, definitely recommend those as well, but the other two stole the show! Also, to start, they bring table bread with tapenade and sauce to dip into and that tapenade was sooo good! Their bread came out warm and they had a sesame Italian loaf and a focaccia and both were very good, especially with the tapenade! For entrées we chose their chicken parmesan and the spicy rigatoni with vodka sauce. Our server suggested I get the spicy rigatoni with their fried chicken breast instead of the sautéed breast, as that's how he prefers this dish, so I went with it. This dish was AMAZING!! Loved that lightly fried chicken, definitely like an amp'd up chicken parm! The chicken parm presentation was great! They literally do it tableside, unique and it helps keep the chicken crunchy longer - great idea! Save room for dessert... For us, we chose their seasonal affogato. They have a few affogatos to choose from! This one sounded great and it's poured at the table. The only gripe with it is that it only came with one small scoop of gelato, and that gelato was so good in the espresso and alcohol they poured in that it would have been nice to have so much more to enjoy in the form of a dessert. The way we got it, the gelato melted so quickly it basically turned into a cocktail - This was flavorful too though! Overall - Highly recommend coming here! I've seen that the top Italian joints in Northern VA are this one, Thompson, Semifreddo, and Ciao... I've been to all of these, some multiple times. Thompson is definitely the absolute worst I've been to, I'd never return. This one if probably the best of the remaining. read more

They did a great job for the holiday decorations inside. The seating itself is a little crammed. I would suggest making a reservation and asking to not be sat near the door. We constantly had people bumping into us all night unapologetically and that kind of ruined the vibe. Our waitress was really nice and full of energy for the evening. She also gave us some good recommendations. The pasta was really good. I got the cheese they set on fire and then put the pasta in it. My husband got pasta with clams. We didn't try the cocktails, but they looked good too, I'll probably try it next time. Overall I enjoyed my experience, I'll just request another table next time, but I plan on coming back. read more

Finally was able to get a reservation here! The hype is genuinely real and I will be back. Went for Christmas Eve and everything was so flavorful and delicious. The fries mozzarella and arancini were our appetizers; for entrees we got the famous chicken parmigiana and tortellini de Michael which is braised beef tortellini with mushroom in a cream sauce. 10/10 The place is smaller than I imagined which I think adds to one of the factors to them being booked out, but there's plenty of room between tables. read more

I was really excited to try this restaurant because it has gotten a lot of positive reviews and publicity. Unfortunately I was a bit underwhelmed. Pros: Nice restaurant with cute decor--we went on Christmas eve and it was very festive. The staff was also pretty nice. Cons: The food was ok but no one in my party was wowed. I got the carbonara and I think it was the biggest letdown of all that we ordered. They "mix" it at your table but we realized it's actually precooked and then they reheat it and mix it again in the cheese wheel. I found it to be a heavy, clumpy and oily. A good carbonara is supposed be light--you would be better off making the New York Times recipe at home. It also upset my stomach. Other dishes we got included the chicken parmesan and spinach agnolotti. The dishes were fine, but not excellent. For example, the pasta that came with the chicken parm was pretty dry (not cooked to order, probably sitting out) and not the quality you would expect from an "authentic" Italian restaurant. They do have a nice wine and cocktail menu. Unfortunately our waiter seemed impatient when we asked for more details/descriptions of some items. Bottom line: For the price you could do better. The items we had could be made at home and were sub par at best. I'm not sure what the hype is about--I think some of it is just their social media publicity efforts. read more

Great ambience and great food. We were there on a Saturday night with live music. The singer (sorry didn't get his name) set a great mood of classics and American standards. Service was good and the food excelled. Meatball eggrolls were a fun and tasty starter. My spicy rigatoni was spicy and very good even if the chunks of chicken were overcooked. The short rib lasagna was a great dish. For desserts, we tried the pistachio cake and chocolate lava cake. Both were terrific. The after dinner americano coffee was perfection. I have low expectations for dessert coffee in restaurants after 9pm, but this was great. Next time, I would try their flights of cocktails (martinis, maybe?), and the buccatini made in the flaming parmesan wheel. That looked amazing at the table next to us. read more

An indoor-outdoor charming neighborhood restaurant. Had a reservation and it looks like probably a good idea as the restaurant is pretty full. We started off with calamari and meatballs. The calamari are nice and crispy and the meatballs are big with lots of cheese pull action. The bread and dipping sauces were just ok to me. My kids both got the chicken parm, with one getting with gnocchi. I wanted to get the veal but it was sold out already so I got the chicken parm as well. My wife got the spicy rigatoni with chicken. I think all our dinner dishes are vodka-based sauce and I feel like it is a bit too sweet for me especially paired with cheese. For dessert, we got the cannoli and the tiramisu that they make in front of you. Unfortunately, I did not like either as the cannoli tasted old and the tiramisu is more of a fancy show. The service was good but not exceptional. Our waiter is all over the place with tables inside and outside. At the end we could not even pay our bill as he was no where around. As an Italian American, and as someone who has frequented Italy, I am very picky about my Italian food! After seeing so many positive reviews and fun videos about Carbonara, I had to try it for myself. Is Carbonara an authentic Italian restaurant? No. Is it solid Italian-American food? Yes. The first thing that gives this clue is the portion sizes. When I walked into the restaurant I saw everyone walking out with doggie bags - so I knew the portions would be huge. And they WERE. I would say the entrees could easily feed 2-3 people. We started off with Nona's meatballs - which were a little tough and too garlicky - and the mozzarella carrozza with vodka sauce. Everyone enjoyed the mozzarella. They were perfectly fried with a creamy vodka sauce. Then we moved onto a Caesar salad. It was tasty with it's creamy dressing, croutons and bacon bits (a little odd). For my entree, I had to try their signature dish - the carbonara prepared table-side. Dinner AND a show! It was fun to watch the dish being prepared - everyone enjoyed it. Again the portion was HUGE. I thought it was tasty, but the pasta was a little over cooked and could have used a bit more salt (even though it was literally cooked in a parmesan wheel). My husband got the other showpiece at Carbonara - the chicken parmesan alla vodka. They bring your pasta and crispy chicken to the table and pour gooey cheese and sauce overtop. He really enjoyed it! A couple of side notes - no one was offered extra parmesan for their pastas. I thought that was strange. And our service was VERY slow. After 2.5 hours we had to track our waitress down for the bill. But, overall everyone enjoyed their meals. read more
