Hello comrade. This restaurant is where you will find some delicious Russian food. My order was part of a large group order of about 10 orders. The restaurant had our orders ready when we got there and they were 100% accurate and well organized. My interaction with them was very limited, but the staff was nice enough. There is metered street parking available for those wishing to park here, but that parking is somewhat difficult to get. We ended up parking in a loading zone area, running in and getting our food. They serve items such as Russian soups and salads, desserts, shashlyk, vareniki, goluptsi, plov, beef stroganoff, chicken kiev, pelmeni, and dolma. They also have beer, wine, infused vodka shots and mixed drinks to wash your food down. I ordered Manti and a slice of Russian Honey Cake. My food was really good. The cake was delicious as well. My major complaint, as well as everyone else in my group, was that the portion size was very small, especially considering the price. Most of us were still hungry after eating our meal. But again, the food was tasty. This is a great place to get you Russian food fix. The food is good, I just wish that there was more of it. read more

An amazing Russian - Uzbekistan restaurant on a busy Arlington Street. Came here for Sunday brunch and we were a big group. We ordered a lot of items and they took good care of us. Everything was amazing. One of my best friends is Ukrainian and I am used to their homecooked foods and this place offered some really close such dishes. The radish vodka shots were bomb. I come here once a year for a friends birthday party and always swear I am going to come back. So here I am! We sat outside which had a special ambiance. We started with the vodka tray which is five shots of flavored vodkas. I loved the pineapple, green apple, and blackberry. My friend loved the rosemary best. We both would pass on the the honey and pepper next time! For appetizers, we got the Blini, Samosa, Borsch soup and Shurpa soup. Loved both soups and made a mental note to remember when I am sick next time to order soup from here. The appetizers were so tasty and, although both had beef, they tasted different. Absolutely unacceptable experience at Rus Uz. The food was terrible -- completely bland, no flavor, barely any meat for what we paid, and the salad arrived spilled and tossed around inside the container. It looked careless and poorly prepared. But the worst part? Four people got sick after eating the food. One person's condition was serious enough that they had to go to the emergency room. What should have been a simple meal turned into a health scare. When we contacted the restaurant to report this, we were told we would not receive any refund. No accountability. No concern. No attempt to make it right. Between the flavorless food, skimpy portions, sloppy packaging, and what appears to be food poisoning, this was beyond disappointing -- it was alarming. Great meal; came for restaurant week. Started with meat pirozki, then manti and the Russian honey cake. The meat pirozki was soft and flaky and delicious inside. Herb mix is savory. Manti is also quite nice. The presentation is interesting for a dumpling, coming from the Chinese style and seeing a different style. The Russian honey cake is basically a graham cracker in terms of flavors: it's the honey. Subtle sweetness that isn't cloying and overpowering. Service was excellent and attentive. Wife ordered samsa, plov and sour cherry cake. Samsa might've been better than my pirozkhi. The plov was a bit dry but still good. Sour cherry cake as described. This restaurant serves a taste of Russian you can't find anywhere else in the DMV. If you just want to try a different cuisine, then look no futher. The staff is so helpful and will walk you through the menu to help you understand what you will be eating. But don't fret because everything on the menu is delicious. My second time at Zeus Uz, where the first time we came for drinks (white Russians) and a snack, but this time for an actual sit down meal. Still had some drinks to go with food, and my fav is going next door afterwards to buy a few bottles of wine and snacks home. What I like about this restaurant is how ethnically it's decorated, how it has plenty of outdoor seating, and how pleasantly quiet it is inside. Oh and the bar, a full bar. Thanks to the decor, even though each time I've come the restaurant has been pretty empty, it doesn't feel desolate. Instead, I've found it to be a great quiet place to meet up for conversation or for a date. I found the food alright. I have had Russian food in various Russian restaurants in different countries, and little Russia in LA so I want to say that this was not the best. I think of Russian food as very rich, which this definitely is, but I think they're overcharging for food that isn't particularly fresh. Given how empty the restaurant is, I can't imagine how they could keep business going with fresh food all the time, but cutting corners does reflect in taste--but not in price. A lot of comments here about food being premade and frozen and reheated...but to call it fine dining and charge $20-40 a plate? Oof. Would come back for the White Russians though :) read more

The food is excellent and the martinis with their infused vodkas are fabulous. In fact, the martinis taste to be almost straight up infused vodka and are a great deal for $13. Which, I'm not complaining because their infused vodkas are excellent, particularly if you like interesting flavors such as horseradish (though their fruity flavors such as strawberry and mango are quite good too). I also love the desserts here, such as the sour cherry cake. The main courses are good, but the quantity isn't enough to be filling (you need an appetizer if you're hungry) and it's a little pricey. I'm not sure how busy this restaurant usually gets but we easily were able to get a seat without a reservation on a Friday night. We arrived for an early dinner and the place was empty but it did start to slowly fill up throughout the course of our meal. Rus Uz is definitely a fancier restaurant. While I've had better Russian food, I wouldn't mind trying this restaurant again! One final note, the servings seembsmall but after sharing an appetizer and soup my partner and I were both pretty full. I don't know if it was due to our eating habits of the day or due to the fact that the dishes are just very filling, but be careful not to over order when you go. What we got: Complimentary small basket of bread and what I believe is soft cheese - 4* the bread is fantastic warm but I always like the first piece more than the second piece after it's had a chance to cool down. I really liked that I believe was a soft cheese, my partner did not. Bilini - 4* the pancake was cooked very well. The meat was good and a new experience for both of us. I wished there was a bit more flavor. Borscht - 3.5* it wasn't as flavorful as other versions I've had but I did enjoy how soft the meat.was (except, ironically, for the piece I saved for last). I really enjoyed the pirozhki as it was nice and light. The samsa was also good. The table either liked or didn't like the fish under coat; it was definitely different and interesting. I got the chicken kiev and my partner got the plov. The chicken itself was very good with the right amount of breading. The sauce was ranch which was interesting but it worked. Rice and steamed veggies were ok, wished the veggies were at least more flavored. The plov was good and the rice was flavorful. Service was good, but not very attentive. The chebureki was tasty - good flavors, and tasted like fried empanadas stuffed with ground beef with middle-eastern spices. The plov came highly recommended so I ordered this - and while it was tasty and well prepared, I felt the plov was a bit on the dry side - since I didn't find the meats actually that juicy - was it because they were cubed? I don't know. It wasn't tough either, and it was still a tasty eat. Maybe I felt it would be best served as a shared plate to have on the side rather than having it as a star dish for one person. The star of the meal here though was the dessert - the Russian Honey Cake. It was way better than what I expected, and it was gone within seconds. I'm going to definitely miss this Russian/Uzbek spot. This cute restaurant has a curiosity/snack shop attached that you can get a 10% discount from if you dine prior. Readily accessible (park in the attached garage, they can validate as their signs indicate) and right next to the AMC for a lovely meal pre/post movie outing. The Plov has been my go to dish since I first came and it never fails: carrot-based lamb pilaf with a tomato/onion/cucumber side salad. It's got a very lovely blend between the sweetness of the carrots and raisins and the spiced lamb. The meat is mildly dry for my tastes, but the rice pilaf was deliciously moist and well seasoned in a way to compliments the meat quite well. This is the most DISCRIMINATING restaurant I have ever been. We've been dining with 2 families and had 2 babies under 2. Server came to us and asked us for some high chairs, we gave them back one which was not in use, but I had my one year old baby in a high chair in the middle of feeding her some dumplings. Then MANAGER came and literally took the high chair right under my baby girl to give it to another family, who supposedly had reservations two weeks ago and very VERY IMPORTANT CUSTOMERS - his words. Mind me I'm 7 months pregnant, had to continue feeding my baby on my hands. Oh he also suggested we use our stroller as a feeding chair. Great recommendation. I don't know how they determine the importance of the clients, but this feels very discriminating. How come one child can be more important than the other. I'm in Arlington for an event and Rus Uz is by my hotel. Uzbek food is my favorite cuisine and I cook it myself, so my standards are high. I ordered Russian today. The Uzbek naan (bread) was delicious and it came with yummy whipped cream cheese with a pleasant sourness reminiscent of cultured butter. The Chicken Kiev had an excellent crispy breading and juicy interior. I saved the dipping sauce (similar to cacik/tzatziki) for the rice. Finally, I had the honey cake, a favorite dessert of mine. Highly recommend the samsa, plov, and manti, which I believe were a good intro to the cuisine. I also tried kvas, which was a really nice carbonated drink (I believe it was from a can, like a soda imitation, but the real thing is supposed to be fermented with low alcohol concentration). Service was excellent with multiple servers regularly checking in on us. I may be a rare reviewer who is familiar with Uzbek and Central Asian food--and Rus Uz is the real deal. Expect savory, hearty yet delicate fare that is heavy on meat and sometimes dairy. Also a slightly more upscale vibe than most Ballston spots. My favorite dishes are the plov (which is like a rice pilaf/biryani), the manti (large meat dumplings), and the goluptsi (stuffed cabbage). The former two dishes are Central Asian, and plov is practically synonymous with Uzbekistan. It's one of those dishes that every region and every cook has a personal spin on that is a slight variation. Rus Uz's take is a little greasy, as the dish is supposed to be, though much less greasy than many places make it. (Cooked traditionally in literal sheep fat.) Lagman and shashlyk (kebabs) are also traditional Central Asian dishes. I prefer these to Russian dishes like beef stroganoff, which is too heavy for my liking. After watching a Food Ranger episode based on Uzbekistan, I had to try some of those incredible dishes for myself. Rus Uz in Arlington certainly didn't disappoint. The food and the service were both exceptional. Dishes to try: Samsa: This appetizer is a must for any Uzbek food experience. Thinly rolled dough stuffed with seasoned lamb, onions, and spices, all baked to a crisp. Plov: This staple of the Uzbek diet is similar to many other dishes you will find around the world, meat and rice, but with a twist. The sweetness of the raisins and carrots in the rice mixed with the seasoned lamb make for a great combination. I like to put the Manti on top of the rice so that all of the sauces mix together. Oi. So good. Manti: These little dumplings were moist and flavorful, with a wonderful selection of sauces and yogurt on top, sprinkled with dill. Perfect to serve along side of Plov. One other thing I will mention about this place is the selection of beers and wine from the entire region. Lithuania, Georgia, Ukraine, and Russian wines and beer on tap. I recommend the Ukrainian beer named Obolon Oksamytone. It was a really smooth dark beer. read more

Over priced tiny servings. I ordered the stuffed cabbage "dinner" ("goluptsi") for $25. What I got was five 3 inch long rolls, enough to make an appetizer, perhaps, but not enough for a dinner. I suppose you could say it was Russian comfort food. i recommend the Smoked Salmon Plate and the Under Coat salad. We also had the Beef Stroganoff but was surprisingly served with potatoes. Additionally, the Cabbage Rolls just melt in your mouth. They were my favorite. The desserts looked enticing but were not as noteworthy as the appetizers and entrees. The cake was dry and perhaps would be better if served with ice cream. The Russian Napoleon wasn't as exquisite as it's French cousin, but that's probably true of all Russian napoleons, and not just at this restaurant. I recommend that you visit this restaurant. Ordered a lamb shank entree and Russian honey cake via Uber Eats delivery. Have to say it's good overall but I'm a little bit disappointed by the food. The delivery came very fast, thank you Rus Uz and the Uber Eats delivery staff. I've been reading reviews of how tender and flavorful the lamb shanks are but the one I got was not very tender and a lot of the sauce had leaked out of the containers so it was pretty bland without sauce. The steamed vegetables and rice on the side were pretty good and healthy. I had been really looking forward to the honey cake (haven't had any since a friend who's a great baker made one for me 3 years ago). A Russian friend mentioned how good the ones from Rus Uz were from his last dining experience 1 year ago. Extremely disappointed as the slices had only 4 layers and seemed to be pretty aged, not fluffy, cream was hard, and the slice was small for the $9 price unlike photos I've been on Yelp.
